Job Title: Visual Merchandiser
Education and Training
1. Based on job descriptions, it looks like companies want a high school diploma or GED, 1 – 2 years of design or display experience and/or a design or interior design degree from an accredited institution.
Job Skills, Talents, Experience
1. Special skills and personality traits include an understanding of marketing; great communication skills; attention to detail; knowledge of what is in fashion; understanding the budget for displays and marketing materials and the ability to design something great within the budget; knowledge of how to make a display that is aesthetically pleasing and ability to present things and put them together; a creative mindset with a background in design and knowledge of color theory. It would need to be someone who does not mind working late at night or early in the morning since the displays are done when the customers are not there.
2. Being at The Art Institute is great experience because we take color theory and design classes. Volunteering to set up displays for nonprofit organizations at their events is another way to gain experience.
3. I enjoy designing displays and have a good eye for making presentations look good. Throughout grade school I always enjoyed designing my presentations and poster boards creatively so I think I would like this job.
Earnings
1. The average salary in Denver is $32,595 annually (Glassdoor.com). A starting salary in New York City is $30,000 a year (Complex.com). The average salary in Chicago is $29,000 annually (Indeed.com). The national average is $31,320 annually (Glassdoor.com).
2. It seems that compensation is based on performance and other factors including education level, experience, and possibly the need to travel between store locations.
Employment and Typical Day
1. Growth potential for this position includes moving from a junior to senior level position or becoming a manager.
2. Typical responsibilities include traveling to different store locations if it is a chain store; full merchandising and display creations and changes; daily styling of mannequins; maintaining relationships with store personnel; managing events and presentations; creating store visit reports; and managing shop opening merchandising process.
3. The most challenging thing would be keeping the displays looking new and fresh. Typically store windows are not that big so there is not a lot of space to work with. I think it would also be tough to work odd hours like late at night.
Conclusion
1. I learned that the salary for this position isn’t as high as I would expect. There is a lot more to this job including making reports and working with a team than what I originally thought. From first glance, I would assume this position is mostly independent work but based on my research it looks like a lot of teamwork.
2. I do not think this would be a go ...

4. Before starting an online store or a business site in general, one
need much time to think of about what product to sell, conduct
market analysis for niche competition, and find out how you
will want your site or online store to develop. These are very
important factors to consider as this will help you to determine
your product brand you will be selling to the public.
Meanwhile, Harrison Kirby needs to buy a matching domain
name in advance to brand the products he will be selling. More
so, domain name registration should be done in advance to build
an online shop and careful examination is needed when
choosing a domain. There are companies such Fiverr.com, a
great place to paid lower price to professionals who can assist
research credible and excessive traffic generation and
Alexander high level domain that will speed up your online
store ranking to increase store traffic to increase sales.
After many research activities and study of Harrison service
needs, I have come out with some suggestions that will help
Harrison Kirby runs a Golf Shop.
My Proposed Companies Overview
Shopify Company: Shopify is an E-commerce platform company
by Canadian, with headquartered located in Ottawa, Ontario.
The company was founded in 2004, and they concentrated in the
development of computer program for online stores and retail
point-of-sale (POS) system. When the company was founded its
program were depended on Snowball which software developed
their previous inventors. The company’s mission is to ‘Make
Commerce Better for Everyone.” Shopify system is very easy
and flexible to used compared to other companies like,
Bigcommerce, Evolution, Magento, and many other. The
5. services provided by Shopify are just amazing, making store
customization, including products, design, and payment
integration make their services unique. Other wonderful
products include free apps, and free SSL. This shopping cart has
received great reviews and rated the best platform.
Amazon Company: Amazon.com, Inc., fused on May 28, 1996,
offers a scope of items and administrations through its Sites.
The Organization works through three parts: North America,
Global and Amazon Web Administrations (AWS). The
Organization's items incorporate stock and substance that it
buys for resale from merchants and those offered by outside
vendors. It likewise makes and offers electronic gadgets. The
Organization's North America section essentially consists of
retail offers of customer items (counting from suppliers) and
memberships through North America-centered Sites, for
example, www.amazon.com,
www.amazon.ca, and www.amazon.com.mx. The North America
fragment incorporates send out deals from its North America-
centered Sites.
Features of My Chosen Company and Reasons for the Pick
Firstly, I have chosen Shopify for Harrison to established his
Golf Shop because Shopify offers many features made Shopify
on of the best shopping cart. Shopify provides customers with
easy platform that allow anyone to build an online store within
few hours. Shopify offers their customers services such as
increase stock size of products to sell, they offer great hosting
services that come along with your store and you don't need to
buy a separate hosting service. There is always 24/7 customer
service available to provide necessary support to clients. There
are numerous social media integration such as Facebook,
Linkedin, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest and many other major
networks to help store owners drive traffic and boost sales.
When it comes to accepting payment from customers, Shopify
made it easy to accept payment from within and around the
globe. Shopify also offer free domain services with self-hosting
service as well as free SSL certificate which will enable
6. customers to have confident shopping at Harrison store. Besides
all these great reasons for Harrison to open the Golf Shop on
Shopify, the company is PCI compliant and Harrison don't need
to worry about that. Not to forget, another most interesting
thing about Shopify is their pricing, the pricing for their service
is the best compared to other platforms. With their lowest
service that's $29.00 per month, comes with free domain and
hosting, free SSL, customer support, unlimited product listing
and many other great services. Finally, when Harrison go with
Shopify platform, not only would he sell his products on
Shopify, instead, he will be able to sell on other marketplaces
like Amazon, Ebay, and Facebook through Shopify integration.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend going for Shopify for
Harrison as this will help him stay with the competitive
marketplace will be able sell to other marketplaces through
Shopify integration with Amazon, Ebay and Facebook store. For
easy store management and faster customer support, Harrison
with to establish his Golf Shop without difficult. More so, since
Harrison has 150 products to sell Shopify will be the best option
as he will be able open his store with Shopify low package fee
of $29.00 which offers unlimited product to sell if Harrison
decides to increase his inventory. I hope my suggestion will
help solve the needs of Harrison.

IT 210 Milestone One: Internship Assignment Rubric
Overview
For the final project in this course, you are being asked to apply
the concepts learned throughout the course to assist a small
business owner in improving his
business through the use of technology. Milestone One will be
the first step in creating your report and recommendations to the
business owner. The objective of
this milestone is to further explore course concepts and
incorporate additional perspectives and source material to
analyze real world scenarios. Leverage both
the textbook and external sources to complete the internship
assignment.

Harrison Kirby runs a local golf course with a shop of around
150 products. He wants to have a website that will facilitate e-
business for his golf course. He wants
online scheduling of tee times (including coordination of group
play), online shopping, and social network integration. One
difficulty of moving a small business
from a traditional retail store to an online store is channel
complications. Everything must be reconsidered. For example,
how will he communicate with his
customers? How will they find product information? How will
8. he accept orders? How will he manage payments and shipping?
These questions and many more
have kept Kirby from making the e-commerce plunge.
Below you will find a letter from Kirby explaining what he
would like you to do:
Dear Intern,
I have an interesting project for you. I am interested in an
online presence for my golf shop. Specifically, I want to offer a
few (less than 150) products
online for in-store pickup or delivery. I would also like online
scheduling of tee times.
I want you to research the web for companies that provide this
type of product. Ultimately, you may recommend a combination
of providers to
accomplish all that I am trying to do. For example, your final
recommendation may include a web hosting solution, logistics
provider, and a CRM
(Customer Relationship Management) tool. Or, perhaps you will
find a product that can be customized to provide all the
functionality in one piece.
Keep in mind that my shop is a small business, and I do not
have resources to manage a complicated system. I need
something that is fairly easy to
implement, use, and manage. I have heard of online, cloud, as-
a-service platforms that do not require local hardware. I think
that this type of setup
would be most useful to me, but I have no idea what type of
software I should use to support my business.
After you complete your research, as the first step in this
9. process, please send me a report with the following critical
elements:
1. Overview of the companies you learned about
2. Profile of your selections and the reasons you chose them
3. Summary of why you believe this will help me accomplish
my goals
I am very excited to see your work!
Sincerely,
Harrison Kirby
Note: You should incorporate at least three sources into your
report; one source should be the textbook. Use paraphrasing and
direct quotations to help
demonstrate the concepts and support your perspectives.

14. Overview

Amazon has a huge advantage over brick and mortar retailers
because of the intelligent systems it employs. A customer need
only get close to a product category
and the intelligent systems will provide links to products other
customers shopped for or bought after they viewed that
particular item. Often, in a few clicks
customers can find a top-rated product they were not aware of a
few minutes earlier.
For Harrison Kirby, owner of the golf shop from the Milestone
One Internship Activity, this causes a real problem. He has a
tough time competing with online golf
stores because he is not able to carry a high level of inventory
nor does he have the amount of data necessary to create these
intelligent systems. Below you will
find a letter from Kirby that explains how you can help him in
this situation.
15. Dear Intern,
I have an idea that I need your help developing. I realize that
there is a great deal of information available on the web. Every
product I carry has plenty of
resources to help my customers make a decision. The problem I
have found is that those resources are available on my
competitors’ websites!
For example, Amazon does a great job of using its data to offer
an "intelligent" suggestion to its customers. It often shows what
percentage of people buy
an item after viewing it, suggests related items, and even
suggests combinations of purchases. I will never have as much
data as Amazon does, but I
wonder if I couldn't somehow tap into their system and use it to
my advantage?
I am interested in developing a system that will allow my
customers to use the intelligent systems that are available
online but keep my customers in my
store for purchases. Part of helping with this will be gathering a
list of the major golf websites that offer extensive product
information, including
customer reviews. I need you to build a table that has the
following information in it:
Company Name Product Information
(Does the website
offer extensive
16. product
information—even
from the
manufacturer?)
Customer Reviews
(Does the website

Related Product
Information
(Does the website

how many people
purchase this item?
What about other
products they
purchase after
17. looking at this one?)
Combination
Purchase
(Does the website
offer suggestions on
combinations of
items that customers
typically purchase?)
e.g. Company x
www.siteexample.com
The company’s web
site offers specific
description of the
product and links
back to the
manufacturer’s web
site for additional
details.
Yes – The website
links reviews of the
product to Amazon
reviews.
The site does not
offer related products
18. The site does show
related products that
people purchase after
looking at a specific
items or what people
purchase instead of
the current item.
Yes- the site shows
items ‘often
purchased together’.
Your table should be professionally presented within a
Microsoft Word document (exactly how the table above has
been added to this document), and
should include all relevant information I will need to help me
make decisions and speak to website developers. Once you
compile this list, I will use it to
talk to developers about ways to pull this information together.
It will also help you see how many websites make use of
intelligent agents to help their
shoppers! Along with your Microsoft Word table, please also
include a brief narrative that summarizes your findings and
provide some guidance for my
business based on what other companies are offering in the
different dimensions.
Thank you,
Harrison Kirby
