Garmin inreach communicators helped relief efforts in Puerto Rico and nearby islands after Hurricane Maria by enabling communication when internet, cell service, and other infrastructure was damaged or destroyed. The devices allowed a relief team, generators guards at critical facilities, the postmaster, and a food market to coordinate relief efforts such as medical evacuations and shipping by providing a way to send unlimited texts, emails, and social media posts, as well as an SOS button, when other forms of communication were unavailable due to the devastation of the storm.
