Adderall And Vicodin Research Paper
Three drugs that I will be discussing are Adderall, Vicodin, and Ambien. The drugs all come in pill
form. These drugs affect the nervous system and they all share similar symptoms which causes the
user to feel dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Although they share similarities, they have differences
in term of their impact on different body parts. Ambien and Vicodin are both central nervous
depressants, which slows brain activity, and Adderall is a stimulant which increases brain activity.
All these drugs have different purposes; users take Adderall as a diet pill to lose weight because
amphetamine speeds up the body's metabolism and lowers appetite. They take ambien to treat
insomnia and use vicodin to relieve moderate to moderately severe ... Show more content on

GABA is one of the oldest–known neurotransmitters, is an inhibitory brain chemical. Ambien allows
more of the calming chemical to flood brain synapses – and the brain is littered with GABA
receptors. It inhibits the reward pathway.
Drinking alcohol and mixing drugs can be lethal because it can easily result in a life–threatening
overdose or negative interaction between the substances. Combining the drugs side effects together
with the effects of drinking alcohol can double the consequences. The body won't be able to handle
the amount of side effects happening and it will react dangerously to the amount consumed.
Adderall is a stimulant, alcohol is a depressant when these two are mixed instead of canceling each
other out they will compete with each other in your body which causes serious and lethal problems

Prescription Drug Abuse Research
In the United States today, the Federal Government has many laws against the use, distribution, and
production of illegal drugs. Drug abuse is growing immensely in the United States. Each year,
billions of dollars in drugs are being bought and distributed throughout the United States which in
turn causes a spike in overdoses and drug abuse. Statistics have shown that drug overdose deaths
were the leading cause of deaths in the United States in 2013. Who does drug abuse mostly affect?
Sadly, drug abuse has no set limit or boundaries on who it can affect. Prescription drugs have
become more popular within the United States compared to recent years. According to the National
Institute on Drug Abuse, the three classes of prescription drugs ... Show more content on

"This could mean that addiction is rooted in genetics and might be inherited, but it could also mean
that drug abuse could be impacted by environmental factors, such as the family background in
which the child was raised and influenced" (Drug Use Hurts Kids 2017). Another problem with kids
growing up around drugs could be that they're not being taken care of the right way. As stated by
The National Institute of Drug Abuse, "People with drug problems can forget to take care of the
kids. There might not be anyone making meals or helping the kids get washed and dressed. There
might not be anyone to buy clothes or do the laundry. There might not be anyone to take the kids to
the doctor or help with homework." (National Institute of Drug Abuse 2017). Unfortunately, kids
who grow up in underprivileged homes and neighborhoods are more likely to remain 'in the system'
then children are born. Children who grow up in an environment where abusing drugs is not only
tolerated but accepted can develop a sense of dependability to the drugs they're around. This creates
a whole new generation of drug abusers that, later in life, will continue the cycle all over again. Who
does drug abuse mostly affect? Drug abuse affects a wide range of people and doesn't tend to point
out a specific type. The rate of deaths, due to overdoses, have been increasing in the United States

Essay on Substance Abuse and the Elderly
The purpose of this paper is to determine the level of substance abuse in the elderly community.
There is concern that as the population ages in the United States, there will be a significant increase
in the number of older adults being treated for substance abuse problems. This paper seeks to
understand the issues and concerns that are consequently involved with substance abuse among the
elderly.
There is no doubt that there is a prevalence of substance abuse throughout several age groups. To a
certain extent, a society is faced with the reality of controlling substance abuse. Or allow it run
rampant throughout the community. Often times, we hear and read about the level of substance
abuse among teen, young adults and mid–aged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physicians for elderly patients lack communication with each other. If the physicians lack high level
communication, then prescribed medicines may have an adverse effect on the elderly. The elderly,
often times, have cognitive problems, which makes it difficult for the elderly to understand
instructions for prescriptions. This can cause a serious issue in this particular population.
It can be determined that the elderly seldom get drugs illicitly. As stated earlier, they usually get
drugs by seeing multiple doctors. In addition to this, they stockpile prescribed medications over
time, or getting medications from family members. This only contributes to the problems of the
elderly. Often times, family members are reluctant to address the issues their elderly family member
face.
Although substance abuse among the elderly, like alcohol is low considered compared to the general
population, its prevalence is still high. A study showed the prevalence of alcohol related problems
ranged from 1.4% to 22% (Adams, et al., 1993). It can be understood that the level of alcohol
related problems diminishes as an individual ages.
Reports of substance abuse among this age group are considered under–reported. It can be
understood that the elderly are the "unseen" components of society. Often times, the elderly are
marginalized and subjected to the realities of old age. Society seems to shy away from the elderly.

By having an accurate dosage, a high purity level, and a lower price, prescription pills have
established a place next to regular street drugs. Medical offices and pharmacies help supply a large
amount of these drugs. There is no glory in catching doctors and pharmaceutical companies
involved in this illegal drug trafficking. Media coverage is small due to the fact there are no guns
and no bundles of case for the world to see. Sometimes action is taken, but the results are usually
small. Very few doctors, dentists, and pharmacists are prosecuted annually for prescription fraud.
The evidence now conclusively points to the fact that Whitney Houston has been killed by the
pharmaceutical industry. "Whitney Houston 's death must serve as an urgent reminder that pills are
not the answer, and that those who seek to alter their moods, physiology or biochemistry through
Big Pharma 's deadly drugs are only playing Russian roulette with their lives" said coroner officials.
In a research of an estimated 10 prescription frauds, one doctor received a short sentence; the other
nice pleaded guilty and were put on probation. Part of the problem is that medical practitioners are
usually charged under laws carrying low prison penalties. The laws are written allowing health care
professionals to escape serious drug trafficking charges, no matter how fraudulent. About 75% of
physicians convicted of prescription drug crimes got to keep their license. Medical and

Antiepileptic activity and Pharmacognostical study of leaves of Sphaeranthus indicus Linn.
Introduction
Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current
treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related
and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with
these current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional
remedies can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows
better safety and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active
pharmaceutical drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The
presently available AEDs (Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium
valproate and ethosuximide are associated with a number of short comings, dose related
neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage ,
because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions and this problem is further compounded by the
high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations
with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for developing newer agents for epilepsies.

The first witness who will testify for the prosecution is Officer Bobby Flanegan. This witness will
demonstrate that the warrantless search of the defendant's apartment and backyard was proper.
Officer Flanegan will also provide evidence to show that exigent circumstances were present, such
as the possibility of a weapon in the possession of the defendant. For example, there was a
possibility that gravity knife was in Kelly Robert's possession at the corner of Chippewa and

The biggest problem is whether or not the defendant give the officers consent to search her
apartment and backyard. This is because Kelly Roberts did not directly give Officer Flanegan
consent to search, as she stated that she is not answering any questions because the officers would
probably do whatever they wanted to do with or without her permission. The law also propounds
this doctrine. People v. Gonzalez states that consent to search is truly voluntary. Therefore, arguably,
the warrantless search was not justified. Furthermore, another obstacle is Leslie Mooney, since she
has a lot of bias. Her son, Larry, experienced a drug overdose because of the defendant. As can be
seen, Mooney has bias and is even testifying for the defense to get Kelly Roberts off the streets.
Moreover, the weather produces a problem for the prosecution too. The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) stated that there was significant rainfall starting at
approximately 5:00 P.M., but the search was conducted before 2:30 P.M., which left time for the
prosecution to get a

Persuasive Essay On Drug Abuse
Dana Farnick, a 22–year–old young woman had her entire life ahead of her. However, Dana suffered
from drug addiction, she went to several rehabs, therapists, treatment facilities, and more (Farinick).
Despite all the programs Dana was enrolled in, she still suffered from relapses, and eventually met
her death due to an overdose (Farinick). Dana's parents found her dead on the kitchen floor of their
home. This is the result of drug abuse, the untimely death of individuals young and old.
Stories such as Dana's are not uncommon. Recent U.S. government reports have shown the
increasing amount of teen deaths, as a result of drug overdoses. Horrifyingly, teen's perceptions
about drugs have been changing. In the monitoring, the future survey, run by the national institute
on drug abuse, found that only 36% of 12th graders determined that smoking pot is harmful
(Johnston). This means that 64% of 12th–grade students view marijuana as safe. This is catastrophic
since students are more likely to participate in drugs since they view it as safe. Additionally, the
daily usage of marijuana is increasing among 8th, 10th, and 12th graders (National). These students
will be more likely to experience seizures, weakened immune system, and permanent brain damage
(Neighmond).
In efforts to decrease the daily usage of marijuana and other drugs schools should deter from the
D.A.R.E. program. The majority of schools use the D.A.R.E. program to prevent students from
using drugs, even Hingham Public Schools used this program while I was in elementary and middle
school. In 2011 there was a meta–analysis of D.A.R.E., this study found that D.A.R.E was
unsuccessful in reducing drug use among all youth (D.A.R.E.). Additionally, D.A.R.E is associated
with increased drug use, in 2009, the "Take Charge of Your Life" program found a 5% increase in
drug, alcohol, and cigarette usage among 11th graders who had never used any substance in 7th
grade (D.A.R.E.). This 5% increase compared to students who never participated in D.A.R.E..
Lastly, peer–reviewed meta–study found that D.A.R.E graduates do not show long–term knowledge
of drugs and their dangers (D.A.R.E.). The multiple issues with D.A.R.E show the problem with the

The History Of Intravenous Anaesthesia
THE HISTORY OF INTRAVENOUS ANAESTHESIA General anaesthesia is needed for certain
surgical procedures, which cannot be performed under regional or local anaesthesia, and can be
performed either by inhalation volatile anaesthetics or injectable of non–volatile anaesthetics
methods (Hall and Clark 1991). Historically, injectable or intravenous agents regarded as being
particularly useful for either the induction of anaesthesia to be continued by an inhalation technique
or for anaesthesia of short duration. Inhalation anaesthesia is one of the most suitable techniques to
induced anaesthesia, WTG Morton performed the first recorded of inhalation anaesthesia by ether at
Massachusetts General Hospital in 1846 (Lee 1996). On the other hand, Intravenous anaesthesia is
the most common phase for injection method which is first successful recorded for intravenous
injection was in 1656 by Sir Christopher when he administrated opium into the blood circulation of
dogs, it has been used to induce and maintenance of general anaesthesia (Glass et al. 1991). They
are now increasingly used as alternatives to inhalation anaesthetic agents when prolonged periods of
anaesthesia are desired. INTRAVENOUS ANAESTHESIA Is the most common phase for injection

Neonatal Withdrawal Syndrome
Opioid addicted babies need treatment in the hospital setting to help them through the withdrawal
process. Studies are showing what medications to use to help reduce the length of hospital stay.
Today, many neonates stay in the hospital much longer than years past, this is generally due to being
born addicted to opioids. The United States is suffering from an epidemic of opioid abuse. When a
pregnant mother is addicted to opioids these drugs cross the placenta, causing the neonates to be
born addicted. According to Hall et al. (2015), this epidemic can cause opioid misuse, overdose or
even death. When looking at the United States from 2005–2011, "more than 14% of pregnant
women were dispensed an opioid at some time in their pregnancy", (Hall, 2015, pg.40). Depending
on the length of medication used and timing during the pregnancy will determine how a neonate will
withdraw after birth. This withdrawal is becoming a common practice and is known as Neonatal
Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). By 2015, this syndrome would affect one neonate in 200 births.
Improvements in medications and techniques help neonates get through withdrawal. I have created a
PICO to help form this paper. This paper will compare the two medications; Morphine and
Buprenorphine are most commonly used to help neonates withdrawing in the

The Different Types of Xanax and Abuse
As doctors write more prescriptions, the number of people who abuse and become addicted to these
substances increases. In the United States, we are currently experiencing an epidemic of drug abuse
and addiction. One of the most commonly abuse prescription drugs in America is a benzodiazepine
drug known as Xanax (or Alprazolam), due in part to the drug's availability. In 2011, approximately
50 million people had a prescription for Xanax. This number was greater than the number of
prescriptions for similar medications like Ativan and Valium. Xanax is also a popular choice for
drug abuse, because it can produce a powerful high when it is misused. In fact, in 2011, about
61,000 people sought treatment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this is a very high dose, each bar contains four tiny pieces that are separated by scores, so the
user can split them if necessary. If you want to stop taking white Xanax bars, you slowly decrease
your dose or you will experience strong withdrawal symptoms.
Yellow Xanax comes in bar form and it features the number 039 inscribed on the front. This is
actually the generic form of the drug, but it produces same effects as the traditional white Xanax.
Yellow Xanax is the equivalent of 2 milligrams of the drug.
Green Xanax is produced by a number of different pharmaceutical companies. Like the white and
yellow bars of the drug, green Xanax is 2 milligrams of the drug and it produces the same effects.
The only different is in the appearance of the drug.
Blue Xanax is a 1 milligram dose in an oval or elliptical shape. Most of the time, these pills are
scored, so the user can break them in half. Although this is a smaller dose of the Xanax, it is still
very addictive.
Peach or Orange Xanax is a lower dose of Xanax for less severe cases of anxiety. This comes in the

Side Effects Of Depressants
Depressants are psychoactive drugs that temporarily diminish the normal function of the brain and
central nervous system (Depressant Drug Abuse and Side Effects, 2017). These drugs include
opiates and opioids, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tranquilizers, and alcohol. Due to their effects,
these drugs can sometimes be referred to as "downers." These drugs come in multicolored tablets
and capsules and sometimes in liquid form. Regular use of any of these drugs can lead to "drug
tolerance." That means that the body adjusts to them and it takes a higher and higher dose to achieve
the desired effect. Dependence also can develop from drug use, meaning symptoms of withdraw will
occur if the person discontinues taking the drug all of a sudden. Depressants ... Show more content

Someone who is sleepless and anxious may turn to barbiturates for a desirable effect. However, one
of the reasons that people die on barbiturates is that the dose that will "kill a person is not that much
more than the dose that will help them sleep" (Barbiturates Effects, 2017). When an individual
overdoses on barbiturates, they can experience side effects such as shallow respiration, clammy
skin, a weak and rapid pulse, and lastly, possibly die from an overdose. Teens may abuse
barbiturates so they can experience the drunken feeling. They may not fully understand that this can
be a deadly drug. When taken in a small dose barbiturates may relieve the individual's anxiety and
tension. As they increase the dose to a somewhat larger dose, in a tranquil setting the drug will
induce sleep. In contrast, when that same large dose is taken in a social setting, however, it can
cause effects similar to when a person is drunk. Barbiturates are primarily used as sedatives for
treating insomnia and as anticonvulsants. When used in high dosages, barbiturates can be used in the
operating room as anesthetics. But as technology progresses and new medicine is introduced,
barbiturates is used less now than in the

The Effects Of Using Drugs At A Young Age
Children starting middle school will be experiencing more locker checks these days due to some
drugs that officials ascertained over the past year is astounding. Middle school children are getting
more access to drugs including, over the counter medicine, alcohol and everyday household
products today versus the last decade. It is important because as one gets older, it could be a
gateway to much harder drugs like stimulants, narcotics, benzodiazepines, hallucinogens and ecstasy
as well as no one, knows the long term effect of using drugs at a young age.
Starting The Usage of Drugs

substance issues emerge during this stage in one's life. Furthermore, researchers have found that risk
for drug, alcohol use, and related offenses is higher in suburban school, schools with fewer
minorities and low income students (Benner, 2015). Students that show depressive symptoms are
positively linked to substance use (Benner, 2015). One of the common reasons that adolescents may
choose to abuse over the counter drugs(OTC) which may include enhancing cognitive function,
reducing pain, sleep problems, feelings of sensation aiding in psychologically coping with stress and

The Use Of Sound / Look Alike Drugs Essay
With this paper I am going to compose about the three of these arrangements of sound/look alike
drugs. The three sets I am going to elaborate and expand on is Alprazolam and Lorazepam,
Hydrocodone, and Oxycodone, and Pentobarbital and Phenobarbital. I will identify each of these
medications, furthermore explaining on how the medication ought to be utilized, side effects of the
medications, the differences between the set of medications, and what the consequences are if they
become mixed up.
It's not inconceivable that a health care professional might see two alike–sounding medications
confusing. After all, Alprazolam, and Lorazepam, or Hydrocodone, and Oxycodone, and
Pentobarbital and Phenobarbital, look a lot alike when the names have been indecipherable and
unintelligible by a physician and or medical professionals on a written prescription, and the less
significance generic names instigated to ricochet and look monotonously parallel. In actuality, the
perplexity isn't even that out of the norm. Look alike and sound alike drugs names are regularly and
continuously responsible for the drug mix ups and in some cases, traumas, and deaths. Food and
Drug Administration have inferred, and ideally will suggest a few changes to lessen the perplexity.

Rohypnol is a drug commonly known as the date rape drug. According to the article "Drug–

but it is legal in 62 countries in Europe, Africa, Latin American and the Middle East. It is one of the
most commonly used sleeping pill or anti–anxiety drug (Benzodiazepine) in these countries. People

and it is increasing. Women are warned that if they go out they should have their eyes on their

Rohypnol and place the powder into women's drinks. This intensifies the alcohol and they get drunk

Diazepam (Valium) was developed by Leo Sternbach in early 1960s and approved for use in 1963.
Since 1969 Valium was the most sold pharmasutical drug in the United States . In therapeutic doses
diazepam has a much stronger sedative effect compared to barbiturates.
Death rarely results from diazepam overdose. Diazepam pharmacologic classificaition is
benzodiazepine and therapeutic classification is as an anti–anxiety agent, anticonvulsant, sedative/
hypnotic and skeletal muscle relaxant. You can use Diazepam for Anxiety Disorders and other
issues. It can be used in the treatment of status epilepticus and for uncontrolled seizures as well as a
skeletal muscle relaxant. It can also be used to treat acute myocardial infarction with associated
anxiety and insomnia. Diazepam suppresses the central nervous system by binding to the GABA

The Effects Of Xanax On A Person 's Health
There are many drugs in the world that can better a person's health. There are also drugs that can
worsen a person's health. If the patient takes the prescribed drug correctly, than the drug should
work, right? What if the patient takes the drug correctly, but the problem is still not fixed?
The possibilities are endless with the controversial drug, Xanax. The purpose of Xanax is to make
the patient less anxious, but in most cases, it does not. There is a bigger story behind
Xanax than most people know, it effects the body in many different ways, and it is not
recommended to take if not prescribed.
Xanax is a drug that treats anxiety, panic disorder, sleeplessness, and sometimes used for short–term
relief of extreme stress. "These medications can also calm patients in danger of hurting themselves
or hurting others, and soothe patients dealing with tragic life events."
(go.galegroup.com, 1) Some people refer to Xanax as Alprazolam, which is the generic, most often
used brand, of the drug. Xanax belongs to the class of minor tranquilizers known as
benzodiazepines. Xanax comes in the form of a tablet, an extended–release tablet, and a
concentrated solution. This drug is prescribed by a doctor and comes with many rules. If the patient
abuses the drug there is a high risk of addiction. Many patients need 4 milligrams of the pill a day.
Using that high of a dosage may cause the patient to become addicted. If the patient discontinues the

Prescription Drug Abuse And The Treatment Of Attention...
Prescription drug abuse has been around since doctors started prescribing medication, but
widespread prescription drug abuse and addiction has only surfaced in the last 20 years or so.
Unfortunately because these drugs are continued to be abuse widely, there are concerns for
physicians who are legitimately prescribing these medications to patients who truly need them.
However there are doctors who recklessly prescribe these drugs to unknowing patients who form
addictions to them. Prescription medications commonly abused include opioids often prescribed to
treat pain, central nervous system depressants used to treat anxiety, and stimulants used for the
treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder
(ADD) as well as some sleeping disorders.
OxyContin, a widely abused prescription opioid was synthesized from thebaine, an organic chemical
found in opium. Oxycodone was synthesized in 1916 in Frankfurt, Germany in Bayer
Pharmaceutical labs shortly after the company stopped the mass production of heroin. Oxycodone

Use and Abuse of Benzodiazepines
Use and abuse of Benzodiazepines
Introduction
Sedative–hypnotics, including benzodiazepines, are a group of drugs used to treat the symptoms of
anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia.
Benzodiazepines are one of the most prescribed drugs which have abuse potential.
There must be special attention toward the patient's addiction history before these agents are
prescribed. An understanding of the toxicity and side effects of benzodiazepines, abuse patterns and
alternative anxiolytic and hypnotic agents may help clinicians to be safe from issues of medico legal
case.
Mechanism of action
It acts by following ways
Benzodiazepine receptors are linked mainly to γ amino butyric acid (GABA) receptors, which
sensitize benzodiazepine receptors to the neurotransmitter GABA, the most prominent inhibitory
neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.
Enhance the affinity of the recognition site for GABA by inducing conformational changes that
make GABA binding more efficacious.
Activation of the benzodiazepine– GABA–chloride ionophor complex is responsible for producing
the therapeutic anxiolytic effects of benzodiazepines and for mediating many of the side effects and,
possibly, dependence and withdrawal from these drugs.
Clinical use
Following are the use of benzodiazepines
Amnesia before or after surgery
Anxiety disorders
 Generalized anxiety disorder
 Panic disorder
 Phobias (social, simple)
 Post–traumatic stress disorder
 Obsessive–compulsive disorder

Refractory Depression
Although there has been great progress in the treatment of depression, many still struggle to find
effective solutions. SSRIs commonly prescribed require taking daily medication, and
unresponsiveness to the drugs is not uncommon. The style and quality of counseling often vary from
therapist to therapist, making it hard for people to find someone fit to their needs. It's possible that
the solution for those with treatment–resistant depression, and other chronic mental illnesses may be
where many do not expect: the DEAs list of schedule one controlled substances. LSD, Psilocybin,
and MDMA have all shown promise in treating one or more mental illnesses, yet the U.S is tentative
to acknowledge their potential. Approving the medicinal use of psychedelic ... Show more content

Valiium Research Paper
2. Valium (Diazepam)
Like Xanax, Valium is a depressant in the benzodiazepine category. Valium is used to treat many
medical conditions, including anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, tetanus, vertigo, seizures, oxygen
toxicity, and stimulant overdose. Valium is also used as a sedative. The World Health Organization
has listed Valium on its list of essential drugs due to its variety of medical uses.
Despite its therapeutic value, Valium is often abused for its sedative effect. Many people who have
used this drug compare the high to being drunk. They report experiencing feeling drunk, relaxed,
and talkative. These sensations make Valium very addictive, which can cause people to quickly

Demerol (Meperidine)
Demerol is a synthetic opioid that is created in a laboratory, instead of being derived from a
substance in nature. The drug inhibits the section of the brain that controls pain, and it is prescribed
to patients who are experiencing moderate to severe pain after surgery or an injury. In addition to
alleviating pain, Demerol can produce euphoria, which can tempt people to abuse it. Some patients
may struggle to stop taking Demerol, even if they have used the drug as directed. However, in
addition to euphoria, Demerol can also cause confusion, delirium, and seizures.
While Demerol is designed to be less addictive than other opioids, but it is still a commonly abused
painkiller. People who abuse the drug can develop a tolerance and a physical dependency to the
drug. As a result, they tend to increase their dosage in order to feel the same effects. When a person
tries to stop taking Demerol, they often experience strong and often painful withdrawal symptoms,
including anxiety, depression, chills, fever, and suicidal thoughts. However, tapering off of the drug
under medical supervision can reduce the severity of withdrawal

kept away from varied nerve–related troubles that are very much dangerous for physical and
psychological health.
Dog stress, anxiety, phobia and fear can be well–treated by means of using dog sedative. If your dog
is not free from all these mental troubles, then it will not be able to enjoy the social life well.
Sometimes, treating these troubles can be considered as one of the most important parts of dog
grooming. If you want to make your dog more interactive and lively, then you have t use these
sedatives but only the prescribed ones will cater necessary benefits.

any of these psychological disorders. First, the dogs are thoroughly accessed and then only these
sedatives are being prescribed. Some of these sedatives are quite powerful as a result of which your
dogs might feel a bit dizzy all the time. Though dg sedatives can be collected as OTC but you
should not do the same in case your dog has got any physical allergies.
Why sedatives are prescribed to pet dogs?
Dog sedative is often prescribed to pet dogs so that they can be calmed by means of reducing acute
nervousness.
These sedatives can help the dogs to get complete freedom from all kinds of psychological disorders
that are coming in the way of their interaction with humans.

Prescription Drug Abuse In America
Most Addictive Prescription Drugs in America
There are many prescription medications that doctors prescribe to improve the health and lives of
their patients. However, even drugs that come from doctors and pharmacies can be abused. As
doctors around the country write more prescriptions, the number of people who abuse prescription
drugs also increases.
Prescription drugs are some of the most abused substances in the country. The National Institute on
Drug Abuse (NIDA) found that about 16 million people in the United States have used a
prescription medication without a prescription or have used a prescription drug for a non–medical
purpose in the past year. About seven million people have done so in the past month alone. These
results show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, education is one of the first steps to take when seeking help for an addiction.
In the case of prescription drugs, it's important to understand what you're up against. According to
NIDA, the most commonly abused prescribed drugs fall into three main categories: depressants,
opioids, and stimulants.
Depressants are often prescribed to treat anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia. Drugs in this
category include barbiturates like Nembutal and Seconal as well as benzodiazepines like Ativan,
Valium, and Xanax. Sleep medications like Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata are also in this class of
drugs. These drugs are often abused because they have a calming and relaxing effect. However, they
can also cause confusion, drowsiness, and memory problems. Like opioids, taking too many
depressants can also stop a person's breathing.
Opioids are pain–killers that are meant to alleviate short–term or chronic pain, but some people
become addicted to the euphoric and sedative effect they produce. When a person takes too much of
opioid medication their heart rate drop to dangerous levels and their respiratory may stop
completely, which can lead to death. Drugs in this group include Codeine, Fentanyl, Oxycodone,
Morphine, Methadone, Oxycodone, and Vicodin. These are among the most commonly prescribed
and abused of all prescription

Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder
Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly
talked about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is
important because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with DID.
Past studies have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorder usually involves
therapy. The most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family therapy.
Treatment for DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their personalities, and
form a functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is that they usually do
a follow up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all of different ages. One
limitation is that there is never enough participants for research, another limitation is that there aren't
many treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam useful when paired with
psychotherapy? Moreover, my study will be unique because there has only been one case that tried
lorazepam, which is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be successful (Mushtaq, Shoib,
Arif, Shah, Mushtaq, 2014). Also, my study will have more than one patient, to have more accurate
results. Finally, diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good treatment for DID. Method

The Challenges Of Jack Whittaker
Believe it or not, your biggest enemy if you suddenly win the lottery or inherit a lot of money is you.
But if you can't manage it on your own, don't worry. There are any number of willing participants
ready to help you start your vicious downward spiral for you. Mind you, many of these will be
"friends," "friendly neighbours," or "family." Often, they won't even have evil intentions. But, that
makes little difference in the end.
Jack Whittaker, a Johnny Cash attired, West Virginia native, is the poster boy for the dangers of a
lump sum award. In 2002 Mr. Whittaker (55 years old at the time) won what was at the time, the
largest single award jackpot in U.S. history. $315 million. At the time, he planned to live as if

Whittaker became the subject of a number of personal challenges, escalating into personal tragedies,
complicated by a number of legal issues.
Whittaker wasn't a typical lottery winner either. His net worth at the time of his winnings was in
excess of $15 million, owing to his ownership of a successful contracting firm in West Virginia. His
claim to want to live "as if nothing had changed" actually seemed possible. He should have been
well equipped for wealth. He was already quite wealthy, after all. By all accounts he was somewhat
modest, low profile, generous and good natured. He should have been able to coast off into the
sunset on a yacht. Yeah. Not exactly.
Whittaker quickly became the subject of a number of financial stalkers, who would wait at his
regular breakfast spot to give him suggestions for how to spend his money. They were mostly
unemployed. No, an interview tomorrow morning wasn't good enough. They needed cash NOW.
Perhaps they had a sure–fire business plan. Their daughter had cancer. A niece needed dialysis.
Needless to say, Whittaker stopped going to his breakfast spot. Eventually, they began ringing his
doorbell. Sometimes in the early morning. Before long he was paying off–duty deputies to protect
his family. He was accused of being heartless, cold and

Persuasive Essay On The Opioid Crisis
Dana Farinick, a 22 year old young woman, had her entire life ahead of her. However, she suffered
from drug addiction and went to several rehabilitation centers, therapists, and more. Despite all the
programs she was enrolled in, Dana still suffered from relapses, and eventually met her death due to
an overdose. Her parents found her dead on the kitchen floor of their home (Farinick). This is the
result of drug abuse, the untimely death of individuals young and old. The opioid crisis is a
disastrous pandemic that caused 250,000 deaths between 2000 and 2014 ("Opioid Crisis"). The
opioid crisis is the abuse of prescription, legal, and illegal drugs, causing death among youth and
adults. There are many underlying issues in regards to the opioid crisis, one of which is marijuana
use. By reducing marijuana abuse the opioid crisis can be lowered, this can be achieved through
schools no longer using D.A.R.E., recovery schools being made, and increasing the legal age for
recreational marijuana consumption.
Stories such as Farinick's are not uncommon. Recent U.S. government reports have shown the
increasing amount of teen deaths as a result of drug overdoses. Horrifyingly, teen's perceptions
about drugs have been changing. In the Monitoring the Future survey, a survey run by the National
Institute on Drug Abuse, Lloyd D. Johnston, the principal reporter for this survey reported that only
36% of 12th graders said that they thought that smoking pot is harmful (Johnston).

Drugs And Drug Abuse
As we all know drugs are given to you by a doctor for a specific purpose, either to cure an illness or
treat an ongoing disease. Otherwise taking prescription drugs can be dangerous for your body and
overall physical health. To go with this they can be very addictive if someone starts to take them for
recreational purposes. Just as hard drugs can take control of someone's life, so can prescribed drugs
if is it not a monitored situation.
Anyone who starts to abuse hard drugs such as Crack or Heroin can run into serious health issues.
They are addicting and dangerous substances which can cause major long term damage, sometimes
the damage in irreversible if the situation has gone to far. Substances that your body does not want
are being injected directly into your bloodstream, not only is the risk of illness phenomenally high
but there is potential that any dose could be your last. Over 50,000 Americans overdosed on drugs in
2016, showing that fatal accidents are not a rare occurrence when it comes to substance abuse. There
are many reasons as to why the victim may have died from shooting up. The batch that was supplied
to them may have been bad, not having the correct balance of ingredients. The victim may have put
too much into his blood stream, causing a fatal reaction to the dosage. Or they may just have done it
for the first time and had a bad reaction to what they put in their body. Drugs are lethal substances
and should not be taken lightly, whether you are buying them

The Effects Of Benzodiazepines And Its Effects On The Cell...
Xanax is a benzodiazepine that is most often used to treat anxiety. The effects of benzodiazepines
mainly come from their ability to alter the movement of the inhibitory transmitter known as
GABAa. GABA is triggered to release when it then can bind to the GABAa receptor. The binding of
the two causes the ion channel to open and chloride ions are sent across the cell membrane. This
causes the inhibitory factor by depolarizing the membrane (Griffin et al., 2013). Benzodiazepines
are absorbed well through both per oral and parenteral administrations. However, absorption per
orally is more rapid than any other route. Xanax in particular, is highly lipid soluble. Because it is
highly lipid soluble, it means that it passes through the blood brain barrier more quickly. Xanax,
otherwise known as alprazolam, reaches its peak in concentration in about one to two hours after
administration (Griffin et al., 2013). The half–life, or the time it takes the drug to decrease by half, is
about six to twenty–seven hours for adults (Griffin et al., 2013). There is a redistribution of
benzodiazepines in body fat. This is a two phase process. During the first phase, there is a fast drop
in the blood level as the drug is being redistributed throughout the body. During the second phase
the blood level is more slow to drop than the first phase because the drug that is left in the blood is
being metabolized and as that is happening it is being replaced by the drug that is being released
from the body

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Essay
As a kid all I would want to do is "pull all nighters", now all I want is to actually have one good
night 's sleep, or at least half a night 's sleep. For those who are completely oblivious to what
insomnia is it is characterized as a persistent lack of sleep, but those who have insomnia know that it
is so much more than just a lack of sleep. For instance, there are actually different types of insomnia
that are categorized by how long you stay awake, if lack of sleep last less than a week then it is
considered Transient Insomnia, if it last one to three weeks its Short–Term Insomnia, and if it last
longer than three weeks it 's called Chronic Insomnia. I myself suffer from insomnia, and my
symptoms would usually last one to two weeks so I have Short–Term Insomnia. Now I didn 't know

always enthusiastic about everything, but as I grew older and school became more demanding I
would be tired after school but I knew there was no way I could go to sleep still and I couldn 't
understand why.

withdrawal in the patient and why?(20pts)
Answer:
The physiologic effects of the opioids withdrawal syndrome include, arthralgias, diarrhea, myalgias,
abdominal cramping, rhinorrhea, piloerection, lacrimation, insomnia, and yawning as well as
temperature dysregulation. It is greatly suspected that Mr. HR was experiencing an opioid

sweating and increased lacrimation.
There are two medication management when a provider suspects the patient is abusing opiates. First,
methadone is one of the acute medication managements for the opioid withdrawal syndrome. It can
be used in outpatient and inpatient setting. The initiate dose is 20 to 30 mg, then increased to 40 to
60 mg if the patient still shows signs of withdrawal. Besides methadone, clonidine is another
regimen and can be used in an outpatient basis. The initial dose is 0.1mg PO TID, and the maximum
dose is 0.4 mg, PO, TID. If the patient's systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg, then clonidine is
held. Both medications should slowly tapered, if the patient's withdrawal symptoms are suppressed.

Adderall And Vicodin Research Paper

  • 1. Adderall And Vicodin Research Paper Three drugs that I will be discussing are Adderall, Vicodin, and Ambien. The drugs all come in pill form. These drugs affect the nervous system and they all share similar symptoms which causes the user to feel dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Although they share similarities, they have differences in term of their impact on different body parts. Ambien and Vicodin are both central nervous depressants, which slows brain activity, and Adderall is a stimulant which increases brain activity. All these drugs have different purposes; users take Adderall as a diet pill to lose weight because amphetamine speeds up the body's metabolism and lowers appetite. They take ambien to treat insomnia and use vicodin to relieve moderate to moderately severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GABA is one of the oldest–known neurotransmitters, is an inhibitory brain chemical. Ambien allows more of the calming chemical to flood brain synapses – and the brain is littered with GABA receptors. It inhibits the reward pathway. Drinking alcohol and mixing drugs can be lethal because it can easily result in a life–threatening overdose or negative interaction between the substances. Combining the drugs side effects together with the effects of drinking alcohol can double the consequences. The body won't be able to handle the amount of side effects happening and it will react dangerously to the amount consumed. Adderall is a stimulant, alcohol is a depressant when these two are mixed instead of canceling each other out they will compete with each other in your body which causes serious and lethal problems to ... • 3. Prescription Drug Abuse Research In the United States today, the Federal Government has many laws against the use, distribution, and production of illegal drugs. Drug abuse is growing immensely in the United States. Each year, billions of dollars in drugs are being bought and distributed throughout the United States which in turn causes a spike in overdoses and drug abuse. Statistics have shown that drug overdose deaths were the leading cause of deaths in the United States in 2013. Who does drug abuse mostly affect? Sadly, drug abuse has no set limit or boundaries on who it can affect. Prescription drugs have become more popular within the United States compared to recent years. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the three classes of prescription drugs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "This could mean that addiction is rooted in genetics and might be inherited, but it could also mean that drug abuse could be impacted by environmental factors, such as the family background in which the child was raised and influenced" (Drug Use Hurts Kids 2017). Another problem with kids growing up around drugs could be that they're not being taken care of the right way. As stated by The National Institute of Drug Abuse, "People with drug problems can forget to take care of the kids. There might not be anyone making meals or helping the kids get washed and dressed. There might not be anyone to buy clothes or do the laundry. There might not be anyone to take the kids to the doctor or help with homework." (National Institute of Drug Abuse 2017). Unfortunately, kids who grow up in underprivileged homes and neighborhoods are more likely to remain 'in the system' then children are born. Children who grow up in an environment where abusing drugs is not only tolerated but accepted can develop a sense of dependability to the drugs they're around. This creates a whole new generation of drug abusers that, later in life, will continue the cycle all over again. Who does drug abuse mostly affect? Drug abuse affects a wide range of people and doesn't tend to point out a specific type. The rate of deaths, due to overdoses, have been increasing in the United States ... There is concern that as the population ages in the United States, there will be a significant increase in the number of older adults being treated for substance abuse problems. This paper seeks to understand the issues and concerns that are consequently involved with substance abuse among the elderly. There is no doubt that there is a prevalence of substance abuse throughout several age groups. To a certain extent, a society is faced with the reality of controlling substance abuse. Or allow it run rampant throughout the community. Often times, we hear and read about the level of substance abuse among teen, young adults and mid–aged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physicians for elderly patients lack communication with each other. If the physicians lack high level communication, then prescribed medicines may have an adverse effect on the elderly. The elderly, often times, have cognitive problems, which makes it difficult for the elderly to understand instructions for prescriptions. This can cause a serious issue in this particular population. It can be determined that the elderly seldom get drugs illicitly. As stated earlier, they usually get drugs by seeing multiple doctors. In addition to this, they stockpile prescribed medications over time, or getting medications from family members. This only contributes to the problems of the elderly. Often times, family members are reluctant to address the issues their elderly family member face. Although substance abuse among the elderly, like alcohol is low considered compared to the general population, its prevalence is still high. A study showed the prevalence of alcohol related problems ranged from 1.4% to 22% (Adams, et al., 1993). It can be understood that the level of alcohol related problems diminishes as an individual ages. Reports of substance abuse among this age group are considered under–reported. It can be understood that the elderly are the "unseen" components of society. Often times, the elderly are marginalized and subjected to the realities of old age. Society seems to shy away from the elderly. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Media coverage is small due to the fact there are no guns and no bundles of case for the world to see. Sometimes action is taken, but the results are usually small. Very few doctors, dentists, and pharmacists are prosecuted annually for prescription fraud. Introduction Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with these current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional remedies can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows better safety and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active pharmaceutical drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The presently available AEDs (Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium valproate and ethosuximide are associated with a number of short comings, dose related neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage , because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions and this problem is further compounded by the high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for developing newer agents for epilepsies. Spaheranthus indicus Linn. is commonly known as "Mundi" and "East Indian globe–thistle , belongs to the family Asteraceae (Compositae). It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The biggest problem is whether or not the defendant give the officers consent to search her apartment and backyard. This is because Kelly Roberts did not directly give Officer Flanegan consent to search, as she stated that she is not answering any questions because the officers would probably do whatever they wanted to do with or without her permission. The law also propounds this doctrine. People v. Gonzalez states that consent to search is truly voluntary. Therefore, arguably, the warrantless search was not justified. Furthermore, another obstacle is Leslie Mooney, since she has a lot of bias. Her son, Larry, experienced a drug overdose because of the defendant. As can be seen, Mooney has bias and is even testifying for the defense to get Kelly Roberts off the streets. Moreover, the weather produces a problem for the prosecution too. However, Dana suffered from drug addiction, she went to several rehabs, therapists, treatment facilities, and more (Farinick). Despite all the programs Dana was enrolled in, she still suffered from relapses, and eventually met her death due to an overdose (Farinick). Dana's parents found her dead on the kitchen floor of their home. This is the result of drug abuse, the untimely death of individuals young and old. Stories such as Dana's are not uncommon. Recent U.S. government reports have shown the increasing amount of teen deaths, as a result of drug overdoses. Horrifyingly, teen's perceptions about drugs have been changing. In the monitoring, the future survey, run by the national institute on drug abuse, found that only 36% of 12th graders determined that smoking pot is harmful (Johnston). This means that 64% of 12th–grade students view marijuana as safe. This is catastrophic since students are more likely to participate in drugs since they view it as safe. Additionally, the daily usage of marijuana is increasing among 8th, 10th, and 12th graders (National). These students will be more likely to experience seizures, weakened immune system, and permanent brain damage (Neighmond). In efforts to decrease the daily usage of marijuana and other drugs schools should deter from the D.A.R.E. program. The majority of schools use the D.A.R.E. program to prevent students from using drugs, even Hingham Public Schools used this program while I was in elementary and middle school. In 2011 there was a meta–analysis of D.A.R.E., this study found that D.A.R.E was unsuccessful in reducing drug use among all youth (D.A.R.E.). Additionally, D.A.R.E is associated with increased drug use, in 2009, the "Take Charge of Your Life" program found a 5% increase in drug, alcohol, and cigarette usage among 11th graders who had never used any substance in 7th grade (D.A.R.E.). This 5% increase compared to students who never participated in D.A.R.E.. Lastly, peer–reviewed meta–study found that D.A.R.E graduates do not show long–term knowledge of drugs and their dangers (D.A.R.E.). The multiple issues with D.A.R.E show the problem with the ... The History Of Intravenous Anaesthesia THE HISTORY OF INTRAVENOUS ANAESTHESIA General anaesthesia is needed for certain surgical procedures, which cannot be performed under regional or local anaesthesia, and can be performed either by inhalation volatile anaesthetics or injectable of non–volatile anaesthetics methods (Hall and Clark 1991). Historically, injectable or intravenous agents regarded as being particularly useful for either the induction of anaesthesia to be continued by an inhalation technique or for anaesthesia of short duration. Inhalation anaesthesia is one of the most suitable techniques to induced anaesthesia, WTG Morton performed the first recorded of inhalation anaesthesia by ether at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1846 (Lee 1996). On the other hand, Intravenous anaesthesia is the most common phase for injection method which is first successful recorded for intravenous injection was in 1656 by Sir Christopher when he administrated opium into the blood circulation of dogs, it has been used to induce and maintenance of general anaesthesia (Glass et al. 1991). Today, many neonates stay in the hospital much longer than years past, this is generally due to being born addicted to opioids. The United States is suffering from an epidemic of opioid abuse. When a pregnant mother is addicted to opioids these drugs cross the placenta, causing the neonates to be born addicted. According to Hall et al. (2015), this epidemic can cause opioid misuse, overdose or even death. When looking at the United States from 2005–2011, "more than 14% of pregnant women were dispensed an opioid at some time in their pregnancy", (Hall, 2015, pg.40). Depending on the length of medication used and timing during the pregnancy will determine how a neonate will withdraw after birth. This withdrawal is becoming a common practice and is known as Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). By 2015, this syndrome would affect one neonate in 200 births. Improvements in medications and techniques help neonates get through withdrawal. I have created a PICO to help form this paper. This paper will compare the two medications; Morphine and Buprenorphine are most commonly used to help neonates withdrawing in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Yellow Xanax Research Paper The Different Types of Xanax and Abuse As doctors write more prescriptions, the number of people who abuse and become addicted to these substances increases. In the United States, we are currently experiencing an epidemic of drug abuse and addiction. One of the most commonly abuse prescription drugs in America is a benzodiazepine drug known as Xanax (or Alprazolam), due in part to the drug's availability. In 2011, approximately 50 million people had a prescription for Xanax. This number was greater than the number of prescriptions for similar medications like Ativan and Valium. Xanax is also a popular choice for drug abuse, because it can produce a powerful high when it is misused. In fact, in 2011, about 61,000 people sought treatment for ... Yellow Xanax comes in bar form and it features the number 039 inscribed on the front. This is actually the generic form of the drug, but it produces same effects as the traditional white Xanax. Yellow Xanax is the equivalent of 2 milligrams of the drug. Green Xanax is produced by a number of different pharmaceutical companies. Like the white and yellow bars of the drug, green Xanax is 2 milligrams of the drug and it produces the same effects. The only different is in the appearance of the drug. Blue Xanax is a 1 milligram dose in an oval or elliptical shape. Most of the time, these pills are scored, so the user can break them in half. Although this is a smaller dose of the Xanax, it is still very addictive. Peach or Orange Xanax is a lower dose of Xanax for less severe cases of anxiety. Side Effects Of Depressants Depressants are psychoactive drugs that temporarily diminish the normal function of the brain and central nervous system (Depressant Drug Abuse and Side Effects, 2017). These drugs include opiates and opioids, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tranquilizers, and alcohol. Due to their effects, these drugs can sometimes be referred to as "downers." These drugs come in multicolored tablets and capsules and sometimes in liquid form. Regular use of any of these drugs can lead to "drug tolerance." That means that the body adjusts to them and it takes a higher and higher dose to achieve the desired effect. Dependence also can develop from drug use, meaning symptoms of withdraw will occur if the person discontinues taking the drug all of a sudden. Depressants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone who is sleepless and anxious may turn to barbiturates for a desirable effect. However, one of the reasons that people die on barbiturates is that the dose that will "kill a person is not that much more than the dose that will help them sleep" (Barbiturates Effects, 2017). When an individual overdoses on barbiturates, they can experience side effects such as shallow respiration, clammy skin, a weak and rapid pulse, and lastly, possibly die from an overdose. Teens may abuse barbiturates so they can experience the drunken feeling. They may not fully understand that this can be a deadly drug. When taken in a small dose barbiturates may relieve the individual's anxiety and tension. As they increase the dose to a somewhat larger dose, in a tranquil setting the drug will induce sleep. In contrast, when that same large dose is taken in a social setting, however, it can cause effects similar to when a person is drunk. Barbiturates are primarily used as sedatives for treating insomnia and as anticonvulsants. When used in high dosages, barbiturates can be used in the operating room as anesthetics. The three sets I am going to elaborate and expand on is Alprazolam and Lorazepam, Hydrocodone, and Oxycodone, and Pentobarbital and Phenobarbital. I will identify each of these medications, furthermore explaining on how the medication ought to be utilized, side effects of the medications, the differences between the set of medications, and what the consequences are if they become mixed up. It's not inconceivable that a health care professional might see two alike–sounding medications confusing. After all, Alprazolam, and Lorazepam, or Hydrocodone, and Oxycodone, and Pentobarbital and Phenobarbital, look a lot alike when the names have been indecipherable and unintelligible by a physician and or medical professionals on a written prescription, and the less significance generic names instigated to ricochet and look monotonously parallel. • 37. Prescription Drug Abuse And The Treatment Of Attention... Prescription drug abuse has been around since doctors started prescribing medication, but widespread prescription drug abuse and addiction has only surfaced in the last 20 years or so. Unfortunately because these drugs are continued to be abuse widely, there are concerns for physicians who are legitimately prescribing these medications to patients who truly need them. However there are doctors who recklessly prescribe these drugs to unknowing patients who form addictions to them. Prescription medications commonly abused include opioids often prescribed to treat pain, central nervous system depressants used to treat anxiety, and stimulants used for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) as well as some sleeping disorders. OxyContin, a widely abused prescription opioid was synthesized from thebaine, an organic chemical found in opium. Oxycodone was synthesized in 1916 in Frankfurt, Germany in Bayer Pharmaceutical labs shortly after the company stopped the mass production of heroin. Oxycodone was hoped to contain the strong analgesic affects of morphine and heroin with less dependence. Oxycodone clinical trials began in 1917 and the drug was introduced on the market in May of 1939. Use and Abuse of Benzodiazepines Use and abuse of Benzodiazepines Introduction Sedative–hypnotics, including benzodiazepines, are a group of drugs used to treat the symptoms of anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia. Benzodiazepines are one of the most prescribed drugs which have abuse potential. There must be special attention toward the patient's addiction history before these agents are prescribed. An understanding of the toxicity and side effects of benzodiazepines, abuse patterns and alternative anxiolytic and hypnotic agents may help clinicians to be safe from issues of medico legal case. Mechanism of action It acts by following ways Benzodiazepine receptors are linked mainly to γ amino butyric acid (GABA) receptors, which sensitize benzodiazepine receptors to the neurotransmitter GABA, the most prominent inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Enhance the affinity of the recognition site for GABA by inducing conformational changes that make GABA binding more efficacious. Activation of the benzodiazepine– GABA–chloride ionophor complex is responsible for producing the therapeutic anxiolytic effects of benzodiazepines and for mediating many of the side effects and, possibly, dependence and withdrawal from these drugs. Depressants are often prescribed to treat anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia. Drugs in this category include barbiturates like Nembutal and Seconal as well as benzodiazepines like Ativan, Valium, and Xanax. Sleep medications like Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata are also in this class of drugs. These drugs are often abused because they have a calming and relaxing effect. Alprazolam is quite powerful and mind altering the affects that it can have on the body can be very intense, especially if not taking carefully which is why it is vital to make sure that you take the recommended doses taken by your doctor, failure to do so can result in death. Alprazolam is a Central Nervous System ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the individual decides to get into a vehicle after mixing these medications then they can expect not to be able to drive as safely as they would while not under the influence of the mixed medications and of course the results can be hazardous, ending in an accident or even death. According to the scientific American both alcohol and Xanax are cleared from the body from the same liver enzymes; both drugs are broken down by the exact same compounds which is problematic being that it takes the body longer to detoxify itself after taking the two together at the same time subsequently making the substance stay in your system that much longer. It seems that the attraction to taking these two drugs simultaneously is because of how they both are intensified when taking them together however that intense feeling can be very dangerous and it can cause intense sedation, very dangerous accidents, severe depression, and cardiac ... • 61. Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly talked about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is important because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with DID. Past studies have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorder usually involves therapy. The most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family therapy. Treatment for DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their personalities, and form a functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is that they usually do a follow up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all of different ages. One limitation is that there is never enough participants for research, another limitation is that there aren't many treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam useful when paired with psychotherapy? Moreover, my study will be unique because there has only been one case that tried lorazepam, which is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be successful (Mushtaq, Shoib, Arif, Shah, Mushtaq, 2014). Also, my study will have more than one patient, to have more accurate results. Finally, diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good treatment for DID. Method Participants/Subjects It ... • 63. The Challenges Of Jack Whittaker Believe it or not, your biggest enemy if you suddenly win the lottery or inherit a lot of money is you. But if you can't manage it on your own, don't worry. There are any number of willing participants ready to help you start your vicious downward spiral for you. Mind you, many of these will be "friends," "friendly neighbours," or "family." Often, they won't even have evil intentions. But, that makes little difference in the end. Jack Whittaker, a Johnny Cash attired, West Virginia native, is the poster boy for the dangers of a lump sum award. In 2002 Mr. Whittaker (55 years old at the time) won what was at the time, the largest single award jackpot in U.S. history. $315 million. At the time, he planned to live as if nothing had changed, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whittaker became the subject of a number of personal challenges, escalating into personal tragedies, complicated by a number of legal issues. Whittaker wasn't a typical lottery winner either. His net worth at the time of his winnings was in excess of $15 million, owing to his ownership of a successful contracting firm in West Virginia. His claim to want to live "as if nothing had changed" actually seemed possible. He should have been well equipped for wealth. He was already quite wealthy, after all. By all accounts he was somewhat modest, low profile, generous and good natured. He should have been able to coast off into the sunset on a yacht. Yeah. Not exactly. Whittaker quickly became the subject of a number of financial stalkers, who would wait at his regular breakfast spot to give him suggestions for how to spend his money. They were mostly unemployed. No, an interview tomorrow morning wasn't good enough. They needed cash NOW. Perhaps they had a sure–fire business plan. Their daughter had cancer. A niece needed dialysis. Needless to say, Whittaker stopped going to his breakfast spot. Eventually, they began ringing his doorbell. Sometimes in the early morning. Before long he was paying off–duty deputies to protect his family. He was accused of being heartless, cold and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Persuasive Essay On The Opioid Crisis Dana Farinick, a 22 year old young woman, had her entire life ahead of her. However, she suffered from drug addiction and went to several rehabilitation centers, therapists, and more. Despite all the programs she was enrolled in, Dana still suffered from relapses, and eventually met her death due to an overdose. Her parents found her dead on the kitchen floor of their home (Farinick). This is the result of drug abuse, the untimely death of individuals young and old. The opioid crisis is a disastrous pandemic that caused 250,000 deaths between 2000 and 2014 ("Opioid Crisis"). The opioid crisis is the abuse of prescription, legal, and illegal drugs, causing death among youth and adults. There are many underlying issues in regards to the opioid crisis, one of which is marijuana use. By reducing marijuana abuse the opioid crisis can be lowered, this can be achieved through schools no longer using D.A.R.E., recovery schools being made, and increasing the legal age for recreational marijuana consumption. Stories such as Farinick's are not uncommon. Recent U.S. government reports have shown the increasing amount of teen deaths as a result of drug overdoses. Horrifyingly, teen's perceptions about drugs have been changing. In the Monitoring the Future survey, a survey run by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Lloyd D. Johnston, the principal reporter for this survey reported that only 36% of 12th graders said that they thought that smoking pot is harmful (Johnston). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Drugs And Drug Abuse As we all know drugs are given to you by a doctor for a specific purpose, either to cure an illness or treat an ongoing disease. Otherwise taking prescription drugs can be dangerous for your body and overall physical health. To go with this they can be very addictive if someone starts to take them for recreational purposes. Just as hard drugs can take control of someone's life, so can prescribed drugs if is it not a monitored situation. Anyone who starts to abuse hard drugs such as Crack or Heroin can run into serious health issues. They are addicting and dangerous substances which can cause major long term damage, sometimes the damage in irreversible if the situation has gone to far. Substances that your body does not want are being injected directly into your bloodstream, not only is the risk of illness phenomenally high but there is potential that any dose could be your last. Over 50,000 Americans overdosed on drugs in 2016, showing that fatal accidents are not a rare occurrence when it comes to substance abuse. There are many reasons as to why the victim may have died from shooting up. The batch that was supplied to them may have been bad, not having the correct balance of ingredients. The victim may have put too much into his blood stream, causing a fatal reaction to the dosage. Or they may just have done it for the first time and had a bad reaction to what they put in their body. Drugs are lethal substances and should not be taken lightly, whether you are buying them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Negative Consequences Of Saturday Night: A Melbourne Music... Hello and greetings to everyone. I'm Konnie Tevi and you're watching Media Watch. Loud music, flashing lights and crowds of people enjoying themselves; that's what a normal music festival consists of. That is, until drugs get involved. A Melbourne music festival, also known as the Electric Parade Festival, was the location of a mass drug offence on Saturday night. Over 20 people had overdosed on drugs, leaving them in critical conditions; some suffered from more serious circumstances than others. The consequences of that Saturday night had been described as "...the highest number of overdoses we have seen at a music event for some time". The incident had been over the news and the internet. Journalists these days are the kings and queens of manipulation. In fact, they've always been manipulation people since the newspaper was invented. Yes, this incident was tragic and never should have happened, but the way press publicly promote it sometimes is completely uncalled for. • 71. The Effects Of Benzodiazepines And Its Effects On The Cell... Xanax is a benzodiazepine that is most often used to treat anxiety. The effects of benzodiazepines mainly come from their ability to alter the movement of the inhibitory transmitter known as GABAa. GABA is triggered to release when it then can bind to the GABAa receptor. The binding of the two causes the ion channel to open and chloride ions are sent across the cell membrane. This causes the inhibitory factor by depolarizing the membrane (Griffin et al., 2013). Benzodiazepines are absorbed well through both per oral and parenteral administrations. However, absorption per orally is more rapid than any other route. Xanax in particular, is highly lipid soluble. Because it is highly lipid soluble, it means that it passes through the blood brain barrier more quickly. Xanax, otherwise known as alprazolam, reaches its peak in concentration in about one to two hours after administration (Griffin et al., 2013). The half–life, or the time it takes the drug to decrease by half, is about six to twenty–seven hours for adults (Griffin et al., 2013). There is a redistribution of benzodiazepines in body fat. This is a two phase process. During the first phase, there is a fast drop in the blood level as the drug is being redistributed throughout the body. During the second phase the blood level is more slow to drop than the first phase because the drug that is left in the blood is being metabolized and as that is happening it is being replaced by the drug that is being released from the body ... • 76. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia Essay As a kid all I would want to do is "pull all nighters", now all I want is to actually have one good night 's sleep, or at least half a night 's sleep. For those who are completely oblivious to what insomnia is it is characterized as a persistent lack of sleep, but those who have insomnia know that it is so much more than just a lack of sleep. For instance, there are actually different types of insomnia that are categorized by how long you stay awake, if lack of sleep last less than a week then it is considered Transient Insomnia, if it last one to three weeks its Short–Term Insomnia, and if it last longer than three weeks it 's called Chronic Insomnia. I myself suffer from insomnia, and my symptoms would usually last one to two weeks so I have Short–Term Insomnia. Now I didn 't know I had any problems till I was about seven years old, up till then I just thought I was a hyper energetic kid who just wants to stay up. Before I was diagnosed with insomnia I was a energetic kid who was always enthusiastic about everything, but as I grew older and school became more demanding I would be tired after school but I knew there was no way I could go to sleep still and I couldn 't understand why. Sleep is for the weak, at least that 's what I would try and tell myself. I wanted to believe that sleep was not as important as everyone says it is, but that quickly changed when the lack of sleep I was having was starting to affect my way of daily living.
