The term aquaponics dates back to the 1970's, yet its practice dates back to the time of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations where they grew plants atop
rafts on the surface of lakes. Aquaponics is the result of the integration of Aquaculture (fish farming), Hydroponics, (the soilless culture of plants), and
the addition of beneficial bacteria into a single eco–system. The fish, usually Tilapia or Catfish are kept in large tanks and fed a protein– rich fish
food. The resulting fish waste is pumped into a tank where established bacteria growth and biofilters break down the fish waste converting it and

blubber for lamp oil (Roach). Similarly, Atlantic cod, herring, and California 's sardines, were also fished to the brink of extinction by the mid–1900s.
Theses cases were extremely harmful to the ecosystems food chain. To counter these losses, the United States passed the Magnuson–Stevens Fishery

The freedom of the seas doctrine was created in the 17th century as a means to control rights over ocean space. The doctrine assigned national rights

became more advanced and the ocean's resources became vulnerable to the innovations. Rising conflicts occurred over ocean reserves, from decreasing
fish stocks to pollution left by long–distance boats and oil tankers. Tension was rising from Navies of powerful nations, and were now competing for
control over these resources. There was a clear demand for power and presence over marine resources. Oceans were becoming a new area of conflict,

Hunting is good for the environment because it helps keep habitats healthy through conservation. Due to conservation people are able to rebuild herds
of wild game animals up to numbers they have never been before. When in the early 1900's some of the herds were virtually extinct. Before
conservation began in the 1900's the number of wild game animals were decreasing rapidly. By hunting animals, hunters regulate the herd populations
so that the herds do not destroy their own habitats. A helpful management tool, helps keep balanced wildlife populations with what the land can
support, limits disease outbreaks and crop damage (Robinson, 2017).
