Should Golf Be Allowed In Middle School
How many sports can students play once they get over the age of forty five? Not many, although
golf is an exception. This sport will provide joy for many years. It would be less expensive, we
wouldn't have to hire another teacher, and we wouldn't have to repeat the same electives year after
year. Also, physical activity can help improve grades and build student's character. Middle school
students should be allowed to play golf. First, Golf wouldn't be as expensive as other electives. No
equipment has to be bought by the school because golf clubs are required to be bought by the
students. Also there are no jerseys because the kids are also required to by a shirt and kaki pants.
This is a good elective because it's low expense. Next,

My Experience When I Started At Golf
Sucking at something is the first step of being good at it. I know this from experience when I started
to golf. Golf is among the top ten most popular sports around the world. This is a sport anybody
could play and where you can test your concentration and precision skills. Many people think that
golf is an easy sport to play, but not anyone can actually be good at it. There are people that take
years to master the basics of swinging a specific club and having a proper stance position. The
basics include hitting the ball with a club and hitting the ball directly to the hole on the green;
however, to do the basics, you'll have to know how to swing four sets of clubs that are inside your
bag: driver, woods, irons, and putter. First, like any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make sure the ball is ahead of your head, align the ball parallel with the inside heel of your left
foot. Spread your legs so that you put most of your body weight on your left foot. Once you have
your stance, you will want to grip the driver firmly but naturally. After you have a stable stance, let's
move on to the swing. The trick of having a smooth swing is using the shoulders, not the wrist. You
want to take the driver back with the shoulders. Always remember to keep your front arm (left arm)
as straight at all time on your back swing because the goal is to create a smooth arc. During your
back swing, keep your feet flat and your body straight. When you reach to the point where you make
a semi arc, you will swing the driver downward again in a smooth stroke. Keep in mind to have your
arms extended as you swing. After you strike the ball, you are going to lift and turn your right foot.
This is important because if you start to turn your body before you hit, it will cause your ball to slice
and loose distance. Do not stop moving after striking the ball; follow through by folding your left
elbow and crossing your right forearm over your left forearm. Therefore, you will have a clean
finish on your swing and move on to the next shot. We still have a long way to go, yet so close. This
time we will be introduced to woods. The most common wood clubs are the

Golf Governing Bodies To Limit Golf Technology Advances
Is it right for the golf governing bodies to limit golf technology advances?
If an athlete who plays a competitive sport is asked if they would like to improve in their sport, the
answer will always be yes. There is not one athlete that is satisfied with their current ability and they
are constantly working toward the idea of "better". In Roslyn Kerr's Sport and Technology: An
actor–network theory, she states, "there is an undisputed link between the goal of sport and that of
scientists, with both groups searching for greater human achievement. In sport, this is often achieved
through improving and enhancing already existing equipment and technology" (2016). Kerr goes on
to state that one would think that these technological advancements would be ... Show more content

Does anyone in their right mind think that modern tennis has changed too much? Do people believe
Rafael Nadal is serving at too high a ball speed or that tennis superstar Serena Williams needs to go
back to the wooden racket? Those questions are unreasonable in the context of tennis, yet for golf
that mindset resides within the governing body. The counter argument of fair play does not have
merit in this debate because everyone can have access to the newest club or ball technology in golf.
The game of golf for the amateur is played by the same rules as it is by the professional. Limiting
the technological advances is simply done to prevent golfers from getting too good. However, since
this is a sport that can be said to be one of the hardest sports to master, it is hard to imagine why the
governing body is actively trying to limit the abilities of its players. It can be argued that the USGA
doesn't want another record broken. It seems to the average golfer that the new rules they are
implementing are designed so that shooting 59 doesn't become the norm or shooting 54 remains as
an impossible task for tour

Discount Golf Equipment Essay
When people think of golf they think of a sport that is based more around mental capabilities than
physical aspects, however there is also one another part of golf that is perhaps the most necessary
and that is the equipment a play carries with him or her. Whether it be the set of clubs he or she is
using to play with, the balls they choose to hit, gloves, shoes and so many more, golf equipment is a

Importance Of Physical Activity Is Important For A Healthy...
Physical activity is extremely important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Peter Figueroa developed a
framework to analyse racism within a society. In particular, when he looked at at how equity and
access to society's resources are affected by a person's race. This is certainly relevant as people's
access and equity towards sports can be analysed through Figueroa's Framework. There are five
levels that make up Figueroa's Framework. These five levels are cultural, structural, institutional,
interpersonal and individual. Each individual level outline the different functions that create and
remove inequities within physical activities. Figueroa's Framework is important because it
summaries my contribution in golf. My contribution towards golf is that I do not like to play as I
have played for about 9 years beforehand. So I would rather participate in another sport.
The first level of Figueroa's Framework is individual level. Individual level describes the values,
attitude, personality and genes of someone towards a certain sport. Some people play golf for fun, to
stay fit and others compete. My attitude towards golf is that I do not enjoy participating. I have no
value towards golf and as for my personality, I would prefer to play other sports, including netball.
Golf is a long, yet slow sport and personally think there are better things to do. I do not have the
patients and I do not have the abilities to properly play by the rules and hit the golf ball. Golf is a
sport that

Callaway Golf Company Case Analysis Essay example
Callaway Golf Company
1.) The defining business and economic characteristics of the golf equipment industry can be
measured by looking at the makeup of the industry itself. The case states that there are
approximately 26 million Americans who play golf. 5.4 million play at least twice a month. These
numbers are expected to grow by 1 to 2 percent a year until at least 2010. Of the U.S. golfers, 25%
are seniors, 5.7 are women, and 2.1 million are juniors. The typical golfer is a 39 year old man who
earns about $66,000 annually. Golf has also started to expand globally with 16 million and 2 million
golfers in Asia and Europe respectfully. In 1999, the golf equipment industry took in about $2.7
billion in wholesale sales (2nd only to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of inventory is still pretty high $98 million. If Callaway can lower it inventory, then
other costs will decrease and improve the financial performance.
6.) Callaway's strengths include a great research and development department, a recognizable name
brand, being innovators in the golf equipment industry, maintaining strict guidelines to ensure the
quality of all its products is superior, good leaders (mainly Ely Callaway) and having great customer
relationship skills. A couple of Callaway's weaknesses are a relatively low stock price and high
levels of inventory. Some opportunities include expanding its product lines into new areas like golf
balls; going after different segments of the market like the beginner golfers; improving its marketing
campaign by signing new endorsers; and building/designing new golf clubs that will continually
revolutionize the golf industry. A few threats facing Callaway including losing the gap in innovation
with its competitors; a downturn in the golfing environment; changes in leadership may cause the
company to suffer; and losing market share to current or new competitors.
7.) Callaway structures it value chain so that each component always results in improving the
product's worth to the end customer. At the beginning of the chain, Callaway tries to produce clubs
that will create the best performance by its users. Callaway spends more money on research and

Political Cartoon Rhetorical Analysis
The political cartoon I chose was drawn by Henry Payne. The political cartoon depicts President
Obama playing golf. I chose this cartoon for many different reasons and I feel this relates to how I
feel about the current politics. I will show how this cartoon applies to the current situation the
government is facing.
The cartoon depicts President Obama holding a baseball bat trying to putt a golf ball into the hole
marked with a black flag which has the word economy printed on it. There are many balls
surrounding the hole on the green. Behind President Obama is a large golf bag almost larger than he
is. The golf bag carries the title "obamanomics" and behind the bag in the distance are spectators
watching him.
The reference of president Obama golfing comes after last weekend when he and John Boenher, the
current speaker of the house, went golfing to discuss the current state of the economy and to work
on a bipartisan solution to the problem. The economy has become the most important political topic
in our current culture. In the cartoon we see many people watching as president Obama putts. This
shows the interest in president Obama being able to fix the economy and how important his
solutions to the economy will be to our nation. A common person who works a regular job can go
and play a leisure round of golf on Saturday. Being president all eyes are fixed on his actions.

Golf Equipment
CASE STUDY #4 1. What are the defining characteristics of the golf equipment industry? What is
the industry like? Even though golf had grown to be a sizable part of the U.S. economy, the golf
equipment industry was faced with serious troubles in 2008. The convergence of a variety of serious
hazards to the industry had caused the retail value of the golf equipment industry to decline from
approximately $4 billion in 2000 to about $3 billion in 2003. Golf equipment sales had rebounded to
an estimated $3.8 billion in 2007, but many threats to the industry continued to exist. The number of
golfers in the United States had declined from 27.5 million in 1998 to 22.7 million in 2007. The
number of rounds of golf played in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The USGA and R&A have announced the limitation on many aspects even though there is little
evidences that technological advance of golf equipment will lower the score. The regulations that
enforce rules on club head size and performance also increase the profitability to shaft
manufacturers. The USGA allowed interchangeable shaft which mean that golfers can install
different shafts into the driver head to have different launch characteristics. So the differentiation of
golf club changes toward the compatibility with shafts. The skilled core golfers might have strong
preference for a particular shaft and select golf club based on which club is compatible with their
preferred shaft. The introduction of new regulation will also have an effect on the industry
competition as the competition will shift from technological capabilities to price competition and
endorsement contracts. b) The number of Golf players and their frequency of playing The trends of
golf playing are going down because of many factors or reason, the several reasons are: * Difficulty
of the game which disappointed the existing players and make them quit playing * Lack of free time

carts, so whatever type of cart the customer wants Yamaha can provide. Yamaha's final strength is
they provide more than just golf carts to the golf industry. Yamaha provides range pickers, drink

Soon artisans figured out that if they made the clubs out of tougher wood, it made it much easier to
play and to maintain equipment. Beech wood, holly wood, and apple wood became the fan favorites
for making clubs (World). With the new style of clubs came a new set of challenges. The more mass
a club has, the more force is needed to swing the club (chevronstemzone). Mass is often confused
with weight. They are not the same. Mass is defined as being the, "the property of matter that
measures its resistance to acceleration" by dictionary.com. On the other hand dictionary.com defines
weight as being, "the force that gravitation exerts upon a body". Mass is essential to a golf club in
all aspects. The more mass a club has, the more force the user will be able to exert with the club
(chevronstemzone). Even in today's clubs, mass remains a key focus of designers. Since wooden
clubs, a lot has been learned about the best way to make a golf club. Today it is known that it is
better to have mass spread out among a club, offering more forgiveness. Priory it was thought that a
club with a large center of mass was more effective (chevronstemzone). The thought process made
sense at the time. The idea was that if the player could get a lot of mass right behind the ball, the ball
would fly much farther (chevronstemzone). Now, it is thought to be that if the mass is more spread

What other factors have contributed to its loss of market share? What will happen if Altius maintains

Altius Golf's choices in its channels of distribution have played a major role in its loss of market
share. There are two distribution channels when it comes to the golf market, on–course and off–
course, which account for 40% and 60% of unit sales respectively which result in 45% and 55% in

D. Competitive Reaction
What are the risks to the Victor brand that could be bought about by the launch of Elevate? How can
Altius Golf use channels of distribution to help manage these risks? How else can it do to manage
these risks?
There are a significant amount of risks associated with launching Elevate. It is very important to
take all of these risks into account before making a final decision. A risk that every company faces
when introducing a new product into a preexisting product line is cannibalization. By introducing
Elevate Altius may in fact cannibalize the sales of its other golf balls. If the amount of lost profit
from Victor and Victor TX are higher than the profit gained from the introduction of Elevate than
Altius is losing money and introducing Elevate was a mistake.
Other risks include damaging their brand. Ferrari an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer for the
rich and famous. If Ferrari started coming out with economy cars for the general public its current
customer base would evaporate how can you claim to be a luxury brand and then start producing
non luxury products. This is the concern of Altius executives, some believe that as they are an
expensive golf ball brand that they are a luxury brand of sorts whose brand image could be damaged
by introducing a non luxury product in terms of the Elevate golf ball. This however in my opinion
this is a delusion Altius is not a luxury brand

How Traditional Can We Keep The Game Of Golf
Tradition of Golf
To me, a very important question is, "How traditional can we keep the game of golf?" The game is
evolving at every aspect. They are evolving the golf ball and making it better by making it fly longer
in the air and landing softer on the greens. Along with the ball, the clubs are being made better and
better making the ball go farther sometimes by even 50 yards. Each year, the irons are being made
with better grooves which make the ball come off the club better and farther. While golf equipment
is changing, the rules of golf are not. The rules of golf have been here since it's existence. Another
question that concerns me is, "Why can the equipment change in golf, but not the rules?"
Throughout the years golf has changed in the aspect of equipment but not the rules.
The United States is home to many different kinds of sports. The most complex sports with the most
rules seem to be sports like football, hockey, basketball and soccer. Golf is a sport where most
people think of as one of the simplest sports, the objective is get a small white ball in a hole. There's
no question about it, football and basketball both have a lot of rules that an average person wouldn't
know or understand. But, any person knows the goal of golf is to put the ball in the hole. There's not
teamwork or having to get through people, it is just a club, a ball, and you. The holes might differ
and the number of hazards are different but it is the most straight forward sport there is.

At the Northern Trust Open about a month ago, over 90% of the field tried to hit the green in one
shot on a 320–yard par 4. In the past equipment has not allowed golfers the ability hit shots the way
they are able to today. Irons have revolutionized to help players improve. Today, the equipment have
grooves on them to enable to the ball to spin differently at contact. This now allows the players to
fly the ball farther as well as spin a ball back when it makes contact with the green. The more
control a golfer has over the ball the better they will be able to play. Putters have changed the game
with the popular new item being fatter grips. Fatter grips can help the players have a firm grip
allowing them to make more putts. In the past couple years, the big controversy was to allow the
belly putter. This is a putter where the shaft leads all the way up to the golfer's stomach. This allows
them to keep the club align with their body. The PGA ruled them illegal just last year. This was a

How Golf Is A Sport
Kendall Blaich

English 4
8 April 2015
Golf is a Sport For the first time since 1904, golf will be returning to the 2016 Olympics in Rio
(Shipnuck). Golf is a very complicated sport. It is a mental game along with a physical one. The
many aspects of golf are very similar to other sports. Golf is a sport because it has similar
components to other sports such as strategizing how you play, the equipment used, and the physical
strength and endurance required. The first component is strategizing how you play. Knowing the
correct club to use in each situation on the golf course is a big factor of strategizing. Before you pick
your club you must visualize the ball and see it in its flight path, know the winds speed and
direction, the relation of the ball to the target, and lastly if your lie is good or bad (Herrfeldt). The
second factor of strategizing is being completely aware of your surroundings. The yardages for each
hole are marked on the scorecard or various object throughout the hole (Kelley). Knowing the
distance to the hole will allow you to pick the right club to hit the perfect shot. Some factors to
consider are wind and your lie. If you are hitting into a strong wind you will need to take a longer
distance club, but if you are hitting in the same direction as the wind a shorter club is ideal
(Herrfeldt). Another factor in strategizing how you play is to know which swing to take. Short, or
softer, swings will not allow the ball to travel as far as hard,

portrays his outstanding managerial abilities and provides insight how to gain long–term

The wholesale value of equipment increased from $740 million in 1986 to $2.7 billion in 1999,
where about 25% accounts for golf balls. According to my statistical analysis, the sales will have
grown to $5,22 billion in 20102. In the international wholesale market, the value of the golf ball
market was estimated at $1.5 billion. Golf equipment ranks second in the national wholesale sales of
sporting goods.
US and international markets for golf clubs moved to maturity in 1997 and there was only modest
growth in the early 2000, because most golfers already upgraded their equipment and were waiting
for major new innovations.
In any case, Ely Callaway did succeed in his efforts and BB driver and its "sisters" became the best
golf product of the century by golf equipment companies and Ely Callaway was elected the most
influential golf trade person of the 1990s.
Golf ball production also became a big business. Callaway decided to build own facilities from the

of the most captivating sports in the world. A large aspect of golf that draws people to it is that golf
is not a team game. It is just the golfer against the world, and that is a big appeal to people. Also,
golfers have the choice of putting their personal touch on almost every phase. From the clothes they
wear, to the clubs and bags that they use, and even the golf balls they hit, people love adding their
own personal touch whenever possible. Naturally, that is going to entice an interesting crowd of
characters to the same game.
Out on the golf course, the driver is a golfer's club of choice. It is the club used most often at the tee
during the start of a hole, making it arguably the most important club in a golfer's arsenal. Take the
one of the top ranked drivers on the market today, the Callaway X2 Hot driver, for example. There is
an incredible amount of work that gets put into creating one of these drivers. The standard shaft of
the club is known as the Callaway Aldila Tour Blue shaft. It is a carefully crafted, sleek, blue shaft

CASE STUDY #4 1. What are the defining characteristics of the golf equipment industry? What is
the industry like?
Even though golf had grown to be a sizable part of the U.S. economy, the golf equipment industry
was faced with serious troubles in 2008. The convergence of a variety of serious hazards to the
industry had caused the retail value of the golf equipment industry to decline from approximately $4
billion in 2000 to about $3 billion in 2003. Golf equipment sales had rebounded to an estimated $3.8
billion in 2007, but many threats to the industry continued to exist. The number of golfers in the
United States had declined from 27.5 million in 1998 to 22.7 million in 2007. The number of rounds

brought on by new USGA and R&A rules. While Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist and
Cobra Golf tightly controlled retail prices, Nike Golf is the only brand that uses different strategy
with the lowest price charge that came from an uncontrolled retail price.
The competitive force that seems to have the greatest effect on industry attractiveness is the
bargaining power of the golf's governing organizations. USGA and R&A limitation to the
innovations affects the whole industry from the technology advancement manufacturers to the
declining numbers of golfers. The restrictions to the high technology advancement of golf
equipment decline a large number of recreational golfers. The manufacturer who tried to continued
produce the equipments that against USGA's rules had face with the failure because golfers did not
dare to buy any products that against the USGA's regulations. USGA and R&A limitation to the
innovations force the overall industry and each company to find its own strategic in order to
compensate with the USGA.
The competition in the golf equipment industry is fierce among rivals in this industry. The

Golf 's Most Different Sports
Golf, including the history of it, the equipment used, the rules in place, the tournaments held, and
the etiquette during gameplay, is unique as a sport itself. To note, this isn't about the code word for
the letter g, but it is the actual sport. Golf is a game of precession and focus; your mental state
influences the game very much. It is a game basically where you use a club to whack the ball into
the hole. Golf is one of the most different sports out there.
Golf's History Where is golf's birthplace? Golf's birthplace is on the eastern coast of Scotland in the
Kingdom of Fife during the 15th century, approximately 1457. Later on, the king of Scotland, King
James II, prohibited golf because it distracted people from military training; they had to prepare to
defend themselves from an English invasion. In the 1500s the Treaty of Glasgow allowed golf to be
played and in two years, King James IV of Scotland (James I of England) started to play, making the
game popular. Queen Mary I of Scotland showed the game to the French. Her helpers are the French
Military. In 1744, the first club, The Gentlemen Golfers of Leith, later renamed the Honourable
Company of Edinburgh Golfers in 1768, had an annual competition with a silver golf club as the
prize. Duncan Forbes rules were:
You must tee your ball within one club 's length of the hole.
Your tee must be on the ground.
You are not to change the ball which you strike off the tee
You are not to remove stones, bones or any break

How to Play Golf
Explanatory essay
How to Play Golf There is a lot of sports you can play throughout your life but I would have to say
playing golf is the most challenging. Like in basketball you can practice your free throw shots
multiple times and keep getting close to the hoop, which is the target, and get frustrated that it didn't
go in. But in golf you rarely ever get close to the target and when you do it's like making a basket,
you are super excited. It takes patients, and dedication to keep practicing. The first thing you need to
do if you are going to take up this sport is go buy a set of golf clubs, depending on the brand of
clubs you get they can cost you anywhere from $300 to thousands. Then find yourself a local golf

You want a 90 degree angle with both arms, your right arm will have 90 degree angle with the club
and your left will be bent in a 90 degree angle. If you want you can stand by a mirror and see what
this will look like and get the feel for it, and get your body use to it. Every time you are using your
irons or woods remember you are sweeping the grass. You don't want to top the ball which would
only happen if you don't keep your head down. Also you don't want to take too big of a chunk out of
the ground. Most professional golfers always take divots, but when they take theirs it comes with
their swing, they don't even notice they do it. The basic rules in golf you will need to know are one,
every time you go to hit the ball and swing that is a stroke, now golf is a little backwards, you want
a lower score rather than a higher one. You will want to stay in the fairway rather than the rough. If
you hit it out of bounds you have to re hit your tee shot and now you will be hitting your 3rd shot. If
you go in the water you take a club length from the point of entry in the water and drop your ball
you now have to add a stroke for hitting in the water. If you hit the sand you should take your
practice swings outside of the sand trap because you cannot ground your club in the sand trap or it is
a penalty. If you can't find your

Callaway Golf Case Study
1. Callaway 's strategy from 1988–1997 with respect to:
A. Research and Development From its initial existence R&D and innovative products had been the
lifeline of CGC. When Callaway bought into the company his first initiative was to develop original
products. Innovation and superior performing products are important in golf because equipment is
thought to have a significant impact on player performance. Moreover, innovation was important
because CGC had to be the technological leader to sell its products at premium price and continue to
exceed customer expectations. The industry was also characterized as being driven by new product
development because manufacturers were trying to bet each other to the next "best club" so CGC ...

This was mostly like due to the fact that this outlet appealed mostly to experienced or avid golfers
which were brand conscience, but did not depend on their equipment for performance. Also on–
course salespeople had less time to sell products due to the other duties they had to perform.
Callaway Golf Sales Company, a subsidiary of CGC, sold products to customers at wholesale.
Products were sold through outside sales, in–house telemarketing, and customer representatives.
Outside salespeople performed many duties including physical inventory counts, running demo
days, and training salespeople. CGC used foreign subsidiaries and international golf club
distributors to sale its products in more than 50 countries.
D. Price CGC had a premium pricing strategy. It was providing a high–quality product at premium
price to the average golfer who was looking for a product to five them an edge in performance. CGC
also had consistent pricing and offered all retailers the same pricing structure regardless of the
volume they acquired. What is more, CGC rarely allowed retailers to advertise prices on its
products. Foreign subsidiaries and international golf club distributors did receive products at a
reduced export–pricing discount to ease the effect of international distribution, advertising, and
selling expenses.

Competition in the Golf Industry
An Analysis of "Competition in the Golf Industry"
It is unknown when the game of golf originated, but it is believed that people began playing in
Europe during the middle ages. In the United States, golf was a sport primarily played by the
wealthy individuals until tournaments began being televised. Since then, golf has grown to be a very
lucrative industry with over 27 million golfers nationwide by the end of the 1990's. "Competition in
the Golf Equipment Industry," a case study written by John E. Gamble of the University of South
Alabama, is an overview of the problems currently facing major companies in the golf equipment
industry: technological limitations (due to golf's governing organizations), a decline in the number
of golfers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state of the current economy paired with the decline in the number of golfers, has caused
companies to focus more on price and volume. Counterfeiting is largely attributable to the decisions
by executives to outsource for cheaper labor to manufacturers in China; who can produce a golf club
for less than $3 per club.
Recommendations
Companies currently operating within the golf industry, specifically Calloway Golf, must change
their current marketing approaches and strategies to withstand the recession and threats facing the
industry. Although Calloway has a strong R&D department that tends to remain competitive with
products and technology, there have been little results in reference to scores. It is imperative that if
companies are going to market a product that will help golfers drive further and straighter that the
results depict this so that not to damage the brand name of a product. Secondly, due to the decline in
equipment sales and the number of golfers, prices are dropping and companies are outsourcing to
maintain the volume needed to remain competitive. Companies must be cautious and aware so that
counterfeiting may be reduced. This reduction would also allow companies to reduce their pricing
and have more sales without the competition of these cheaply priced knock–offs. In the instance of

In the United States We Are Golf a coalition of golf industry leaders takes time each year to visit the

economic revenue to the US and the globe; golf also is the highest contributing sport to charities . In
regards to national governments there is no pressing or threatening political issue currently.
There is a political subject when it comes to golf's competition governments. The international

How Traditional Can We Keep The Game Of Golf
But, along

–Competitive Forces of Buyers(Gamble 2011, pp45–46) All of the competitors examined in this
case have distribution networks for their products that include on course pro shops, off course pro
shops, and online golf retailers(Gamble 2011, p 289). As a part of the process, custom fittings and
advice are offered to the end users. This tends to make for a very well informed buyer who is a
relatively small segment of the overall population. These "core golfers" account for 87% of the
industry equipment sales(Gamble 2011, p.285). Sales of golf equipment are predicted to decline
15% to 20% in 2009 due to reductions in discretionary spending(Gamble 2011, p.280). Due to these
market conditions it would seem that the buyer pressures being exerted on the marketplace going in
to 2009 would be a strong driving force for the manufacturers.
–Competetive Forces of Substitute Products(Gamble 2011, pp.47–48) The primary force exerted by
substitute products is in the form of counterfeiting. In 2007 more than $600 billion worth of
products were sold worldwide(Gamble 2011, p.286). In the golf industry many of the counterfeits
come from Chinese manufacturers who have stolen clubhead forms and copied packaging in an

Opportunities
Social Media represents an opportunity for Callaway to interact with customers in a significant way.
They are able to listen to what is being said about them, react to this feedback, and communicate

3. Targeting the college golf teams market should increase Bear Creek's usage rate.
a. (Pro) Expansion to college golf teams would make sense because Bear Creek would be able to
maintain a serious golfing atmosphere due to the fact that college sports are highly competitive and
many teams have athletes who have received full–ride scholarships to play golf. Colleges have both
men's and women's teams which means this solution also will tap into the women golfers market.
Most college students practice during the week which will increase Bear Creek's customer traffic.
All of these facts will increase Bear Creek's revenues, daily usage and profitability.
b. (Pro) Reaching out to the various coaches of the local colleges would give Bear Creek the
opportunity to increase the number of lessons it will perform. This solution would utilize Bear

Sports : Sports And Sports
There are six sports that I chose to research. They consist of; volleyball, hockey, tennis, golf,
football, and basketball. I wlll be taking a close look at several different things. One thing will be
where the sports are played. Another thing will be the equipment requirements for each sport and the
cost to play.
Volleyball, hockey, tennis, golf, football, and basketball can all be categorized into two dissimilar
categories such as, team and individual. Volleyball, basketball, football, and hockey are known as
team sports. Golf and tennis are known as individual sports. Team sports are where you play with
teammates. Individual sports are where you play by yourself. Volleyball has six players on the court
and is played by two teams with a dividing net. The object of the game is to hit the ball over the next
and not let the other team return it. Three hits are given to each team so they can return the ball.
Hockey is made up of two teams that have six players each. In an attempt to score points, five of the
players skate around the rink. The object of the game is to score more points than the other team by
passing the puck through the other teams goal. Every goal you make is worth one point. Tennis
consists of games, sets, and matches. In order to win, you must win 6 games to win a set. If you
want to win a match, you must win 2 out of the 3 sets at–least. The scoring goes as following; 0

Essay On Gap Wedge

Title: Best gap wedge
With the short game accounting for more than 50% of shots you play in a round, improving your
wedge play is the first step to shooting a lower score. The wedge is the most important aspect when
playing golf. Acting as the goalkeepers of our game by saving us shots from both turf and sand, golf
wedges come in various lofts, finishes, bounce and grinds to help us get closer to the pin from
anywhere inside of 125 yards. Gap wedges range in loft from 50 to 55 degrees and are a
compromise between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. A gap wedge is particularly critical to use
today because the 5–degree difference in degrees between the SW and PW in the 1960s has now
grown to exactly 10 degrees. This has made room for golf club companies to respond by inventing a
new club to fill the "gap", and of course, encourage us to buy more products.

Should Golf Be Allowed In Middle School

  • 1. Should Golf Be Allowed In Middle School How many sports can students play once they get over the age of forty five? Not many, although golf is an exception. This sport will provide joy for many years. It would be less expensive, we wouldn't have to hire another teacher, and we wouldn't have to repeat the same electives year after year. Also, physical activity can help improve grades and build student's character. Middle school students should be allowed to play golf. First, Golf wouldn't be as expensive as other electives. No equipment has to be bought by the school because golf clubs are required to be bought by the students. Also there are no jerseys because the kids are also required to by a shirt and kaki pants. This is a good elective because it's low expense. Next, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Experience When I Started At Golf Sucking at something is the first step of being good at it. I know this from experience when I started to golf. Golf is among the top ten most popular sports around the world. This is a sport anybody could play and where you can test your concentration and precision skills. Many people think that golf is an easy sport to play, but not anyone can actually be good at it. There are people that take years to master the basics of swinging a specific club and having a proper stance position. The basics include hitting the ball with a club and hitting the ball directly to the hole on the green; however, to do the basics, you'll have to know how to swing four sets of clubs that are inside your bag: driver, woods, irons, and putter. First, like any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To make sure the ball is ahead of your head, align the ball parallel with the inside heel of your left foot. Spread your legs so that you put most of your body weight on your left foot. Once you have your stance, you will want to grip the driver firmly but naturally. After you have a stable stance, let's move on to the swing. The trick of having a smooth swing is using the shoulders, not the wrist. You want to take the driver back with the shoulders. Always remember to keep your front arm (left arm) as straight at all time on your back swing because the goal is to create a smooth arc. During your back swing, keep your feet flat and your body straight. When you reach to the point where you make a semi arc, you will swing the driver downward again in a smooth stroke. Keep in mind to have your arms extended as you swing. After you strike the ball, you are going to lift and turn your right foot. This is important because if you start to turn your body before you hit, it will cause your ball to slice and loose distance. Do not stop moving after striking the ball; follow through by folding your left elbow and crossing your right forearm over your left forearm. Therefore, you will have a clean finish on your swing and move on to the next shot. We still have a long way to go, yet so close. This time we will be introduced to woods. The most common wood clubs are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Golf Governing Bodies To Limit Golf Technology Advances Is it right for the golf governing bodies to limit golf technology advances? If an athlete who plays a competitive sport is asked if they would like to improve in their sport, the answer will always be yes. There is not one athlete that is satisfied with their current ability and they are constantly working toward the idea of "better". In Roslyn Kerr's Sport and Technology: An actor–network theory, she states, "there is an undisputed link between the goal of sport and that of scientists, with both groups searching for greater human achievement. In sport, this is often achieved through improving and enhancing already existing equipment and technology" (2016). Kerr goes on to state that one would think that these technological advancements would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Does anyone in their right mind think that modern tennis has changed too much? Do people believe Rafael Nadal is serving at too high a ball speed or that tennis superstar Serena Williams needs to go back to the wooden racket? Those questions are unreasonable in the context of tennis, yet for golf that mindset resides within the governing body. The counter argument of fair play does not have merit in this debate because everyone can have access to the newest club or ball technology in golf. The game of golf for the amateur is played by the same rules as it is by the professional. Limiting the technological advances is simply done to prevent golfers from getting too good. However, since this is a sport that can be said to be one of the hardest sports to master, it is hard to imagine why the governing body is actively trying to limit the abilities of its players. It can be argued that the USGA doesn't want another record broken. It seems to the average golfer that the new rules they are implementing are designed so that shooting 59 doesn't become the norm or shooting 54 remains as an impossible task for tour ... Discount Golf Equipment Essay When people think of golf they think of a sport that is based more around mental capabilities than physical aspects, however there is also one another part of golf that is perhaps the most necessary and that is the equipment a play carries with him or her. Whether it be the set of clubs he or she is using to play with, the balls they choose to hit, gloves, shoes and so many more, golf equipment is a huge part of the game. But can every afford to buy the best equipment? Put straight, no they cannot, but don't fret. There is a way to buy discount golf equipment online and you can save vast sums of money doing so. • 13. Importance Of Physical Activity Is Important For A Healthy... Physical activity is extremely important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Peter Figueroa developed a framework to analyse racism within a society. In particular, when he looked at at how equity and access to society's resources are affected by a person's race. This is certainly relevant as people's access and equity towards sports can be analysed through Figueroa's Framework. There are five levels that make up Figueroa's Framework. These five levels are cultural, structural, institutional, interpersonal and individual. Each individual level outline the different functions that create and remove inequities within physical activities. Figueroa's Framework is important because it summaries my contribution in golf. My contribution towards golf is that I do not like to play as I have played for about 9 years beforehand. So I would rather participate in another sport. The first level of Figueroa's Framework is individual level. Individual level describes the values, attitude, personality and genes of someone towards a certain sport. Some people play golf for fun, to stay fit and others compete. My attitude towards golf is that I do not enjoy participating. I have no value towards golf and as for my personality, I would prefer to play other sports, including netball. Golf is a long, yet slow sport and personally think there are better things to do. I do not have the patients and I do not have the abilities to properly play by the rules and hit the golf ball. Golf is a sport that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Callaway Golf Company Case Analysis Essay example Callaway Golf Company 1.) The defining business and economic characteristics of the golf equipment industry can be measured by looking at the makeup of the industry itself. The case states that there are approximately 26 million Americans who play golf. 5.4 million play at least twice a month. These numbers are expected to grow by 1 to 2 percent a year until at least 2010. Of the U.S. golfers, 25% are seniors, 5.7 are women, and 2.1 million are juniors. The typical golfer is a 39 year old man who earns about $66,000 annually. Golf has also started to expand globally with 16 million and 2 million golfers in Asia and Europe respectfully. In 1999, the golf equipment industry took in about $2.7 billion in wholesale sales (2nd only to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of inventory is still pretty high $98 million. If Callaway can lower it inventory, then other costs will decrease and improve the financial performance. 6.) Callaway's strengths include a great research and development department, a recognizable name brand, being innovators in the golf equipment industry, maintaining strict guidelines to ensure the quality of all its products is superior, good leaders (mainly Ely Callaway) and having great customer relationship skills. A couple of Callaway's weaknesses are a relatively low stock price and high levels of inventory. Some opportunities include expanding its product lines into new areas like golf balls; going after different segments of the market like the beginner golfers; improving its marketing campaign by signing new endorsers; and building/designing new golf clubs that will continually revolutionize the golf industry. A few threats facing Callaway including losing the gap in innovation with its competitors; a downturn in the golfing environment; changes in leadership may cause the company to suffer; and losing market share to current or new competitors. 7.) Callaway structures it value chain so that each component always results in improving the product's worth to the end customer. At the beginning of the chain, Callaway tries to produce clubs that will create the best performance by its users. Callaway spends more money on research and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Rhetorical Analysis Of Henry Payne 's ' The Political... Political Cartoon Rhetorical Analysis The political cartoon I chose was drawn by Henry Payne. The political cartoon depicts President Obama playing golf. I chose this cartoon for many different reasons and I feel this relates to how I feel about the current politics. I will show how this cartoon applies to the current situation the government is facing. The cartoon depicts President Obama holding a baseball bat trying to putt a golf ball into the hole marked with a black flag which has the word economy printed on it. There are many balls surrounding the hole on the green. Behind President Obama is a large golf bag almost larger than he is. The golf bag carries the title "obamanomics" and behind the bag in the distance are spectators watching him. The reference of president Obama golfing comes after last weekend when he and John Boenher, the current speaker of the house, went golfing to discuss the current state of the economy and to work on a bipartisan solution to the problem. The economy has become the most important political topic in our current culture. In the cartoon we see many people watching as president Obama putts. This shows the interest in president Obama being able to fix the economy and how important his solutions to the economy will be to our nation. A common person who works a regular job can go and play a leisure round of golf on Saturday. Being president all eyes are fixed on his actions. • 19. Golf Equipment CASE STUDY #4 1. What are the defining characteristics of the golf equipment industry? What is the industry like? Even though golf had grown to be a sizable part of the U.S. economy, the golf equipment industry was faced with serious troubles in 2008. The convergence of a variety of serious hazards to the industry had caused the retail value of the golf equipment industry to decline from approximately $4 billion in 2000 to about $3 billion in 2003. Golf equipment sales had rebounded to an estimated $3.8 billion in 2007, but many threats to the industry continued to exist. The number of golfers in the United States had declined from 27.5 million in 1998 to 22.7 million in 2007. The number of rounds of golf played in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The USGA and R&A have announced the limitation on many aspects even though there is little evidences that technological advance of golf equipment will lower the score. The regulations that enforce rules on club head size and performance also increase the profitability to shaft manufacturers. The USGA allowed interchangeable shaft which mean that golfers can install different shafts into the driver head to have different launch characteristics. So the differentiation of golf club changes toward the compatibility with shafts. The skilled core golfers might have strong preference for a particular shaft and select golf club based on which club is compatible with their preferred shaft. The introduction of new regulation will also have an effect on the industry competition as the competition will shift from technological capabilities to price competition and endorsement contracts. b) The number of Golf players and their frequency of playing The trends of golf playing are going down because of many factors or reason, the several reasons are: * Difficulty of the game which disappointed the existing players and make them quit playing * Lack of free time the play and practice from many reasons * Health concern and injury from playing * High playing fee These factors are accountable for the declining trends of golf industry and will reduce ... On the other hand dictionary.com defines weight as being, "the force that gravitation exerts upon a body". Mass is essential to a golf club in all aspects. The more mass a club has, the more force the user will be able to exert with the club (chevronstemzone). Even in today's clubs, mass remains a key focus of designers. Since wooden clubs, a lot has been learned about the best way to make a golf club. Today it is known that it is better to have mass spread out among a club, offering more forgiveness. Priory it was thought that a club with a large center of mass was more effective (chevronstemzone). The thought process made sense at the time. The idea was that if the player could get a lot of mass right behind the ball, the ball would fly much farther (chevronstemzone). What other factors have contributed to its loss of market share? What will happen if Altius maintains the status quo? Altius Golf's choices in its channels of distribution have played a major role in its loss of market share. There are two distribution channels when it comes to the golf market, on–course and off– course, which account for 40% and 60% of unit sales respectively which result in 45% and 55% in dollar sales respectively. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... D. Competitive Reaction What are the risks to the Victor brand that could be bought about by the launch of Elevate? How can Altius Golf use channels of distribution to help manage these risks? How else can it do to manage these risks? There are a significant amount of risks associated with launching Elevate. It is very important to take all of these risks into account before making a final decision. A risk that every company faces when introducing a new product into a preexisting product line is cannibalization. By introducing Elevate Altius may in fact cannibalize the sales of its other golf balls. If the amount of lost profit from Victor and Victor TX are higher than the profit gained from the introduction of Elevate than Altius is losing money and introducing Elevate was a mistake. Other risks include damaging their brand. Ferrari an Italian luxury sports car manufacturer for the rich and famous. If Ferrari started coming out with economy cars for the general public its current customer base would evaporate how can you claim to be a luxury brand and then start producing non luxury products. This is the concern of Altius executives, some believe that as they are an expensive golf ball brand that they are a luxury brand of sorts whose brand image could be damaged by introducing a non luxury product in terms of the Elevate golf ball. • 27. How Traditional Can We Keep The Game Of Golf Tradition of Golf To me, a very important question is, "How traditional can we keep the game of golf?" The game is evolving at every aspect. They are evolving the golf ball and making it better by making it fly longer in the air and landing softer on the greens. Along with the ball, the clubs are being made better and better making the ball go farther sometimes by even 50 yards. Golf is a very complicated sport. It is a mental game along with a physical one. The many aspects of golf are very similar to other sports. Golf is a sport because it has similar components to other sports such as strategizing how you play, the equipment used, and the physical strength and endurance required. The first component is strategizing how you play. Knowing the correct club to use in each situation on the golf course is a big factor of strategizing. Before you pick your club you must visualize the ball and see it in its flight path, know the winds speed and direction, the relation of the ball to the target, and lastly if your lie is good or bad (Herrfeldt). The second factor of strategizing is being completely aware of your surroundings. The yardages for each hole are marked on the scorecard or various object throughout the hole (Kelley). Knowing the distance to the hole will allow you to pick the right club to hit the perfect shot. Some factors to consider are wind and your lie. If you are hitting into a strong wind you will need to take a longer distance club, but if you are hitting in the same direction as the wind a shorter club is ideal (Herrfeldt). Another factor in strategizing how you play is to know which swing to take. Short, or softer, swings will not allow the ball to travel as far as hard, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The origins of organized golf date back to The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews in the United Kingdom (Redmond 410). Golf spread from the U.K. to the U.S. and created one of the greatest rivalries in the history of sports. This rivalry drew international attention, and pretty soon, the rest of the world was joining in to play one of the most captivating sports in the world. A large aspect of golf that draws people to it is that golf is not a team game. It is just the golfer against the world, and that is a big appeal to people. Also, golfers have the choice of putting their personal touch on almost every phase. From the clothes they wear, to the clubs and bags that they use, and even the golf balls they hit, people love adding their own personal touch whenever possible. Naturally, that is going to entice an interesting crowd of characters to the same game. Out on the golf course, the driver is a golfer's club of choice. To note, this isn't about the code word for the letter g, but it is the actual sport. Golf is a game of precession and focus; your mental state influences the game very much. It is a game basically where you use a club to whack the ball into the hole. Golf is one of the most different sports out there. Golf's History Where is golf's birthplace? Golf's birthplace is on the eastern coast of Scotland in the Kingdom of Fife during the 15th century, approximately 1457. Later on, the king of Scotland, King James II, prohibited golf because it distracted people from military training; they had to prepare to defend themselves from an English invasion. In the 1500s the Treaty of Glasgow allowed golf to be played and in two years, King James IV of Scotland (James I of England) started to play, making the game popular. Queen Mary I of Scotland showed the game to the French. Her helpers are the French Military. One of the times that I had a lot of fun was when we went to Lacoma Golf Course and played a round of golf with my dad and brothers. They are really good at golf and have a lot of equipment. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... –Competitive Forces of Buyers(Gamble 2011, pp45–46) All of the competitors examined in this case have distribution networks for their products that include on course pro shops, off course pro shops, and online golf retailers(Gamble 2011, p 289). As a part of the process, custom fittings and advice are offered to the end users. This tends to make for a very well informed buyer who is a relatively small segment of the overall population. These "core golfers" account for 87% of the industry equipment sales(Gamble 2011, p.285). Sales of golf equipment are predicted to decline 15% to 20% in 2009 due to reductions in discretionary spending(Gamble 2011, p.280). Due to these market conditions it would seem that the buyer pressures being exerted on the marketplace going in to 2009 would be a strong driving force for the manufacturers. –Competetive Forces of Substitute Products(Gamble 2011, pp.47–48) The primary force exerted by substitute products is in the form of counterfeiting. In 2007 more than $600 billion worth of products were sold worldwide(Gamble 2011, p.286). In the golf industry many of the counterfeits come from Chinese manufacturers who have stolen clubhead forms and copied packaging in an effort to dump these inexpensive nearly exact copies into the 4

The company will increase market share and profits by focusing on specific target markets over the next 12 months. Environmental Analysis Socio–Culturally, Callaway is affected by the fact that the majority of its customers are Caucasian and male. Callaway purchases its raw materials from vendors, so from that respect, there is a level of dependency on suppliers. If their prices go up, then Callaway would need to raise theirs also, or their profit margins would be squeezed. Opportunities Social Media represents an opportunity for Callaway to interact with customers in a significant way. They are able to listen to what is being said about them, react to this feedback, and communicate new products, promotions and events. International sales represent 50% of Callaway's revenues. Callaway looks to replicate their domestic success worldwide. Due to the growth in popularity of the sport of golf over the past 13 years, primarily due to the success of Tiger Woods, there is a growing market for clubs among young, learning golfers. Again, the Tiger Woods effect can be seen as gold is no longer a suburban, primarily Caucasian sport. Golf has been introduced to children and people of all walks of life, and should continue to gain in popularity. Callaway has put itself in a position to add to its brand identity with its Lamborghini partnership. Lamborghini and Callaway joined forces on a composite formula called Forged Composite. Targeting the college golf teams market should increase Bear Creek's usage rate. a. (Pro) Expansion to college golf teams would make sense because Bear Creek would be able to maintain a serious golfing atmosphere due to the fact that college sports are highly competitive and many teams have athletes who have received full–ride scholarships to play golf. Colleges have both men's and women's teams which means this solution also will tap into the women golfers market. • 76. Sports : Sports And Sports There are six sports that I chose to research. They consist of; volleyball, hockey, tennis, golf, football, and basketball. I wlll be taking a close look at several different things. One thing will be where the sports are played. Another thing will be the equipment requirements for each sport and the cost to play. Volleyball, hockey, tennis, golf, football, and basketball can all be categorized into two dissimilar categories such as, team and individual. Volleyball, basketball, football, and hockey are known as team sports. Golf and tennis are known as individual sports. Team sports are where you play with teammates. Individual sports are where you play by yourself. Volleyball has six players on the court and is played by two teams with a dividing net. The object of the game is to hit the ball over the next and not let the other team return it. Three hits are given to each team so they can return the ball. Hockey is made up of two teams that have six players each. In an attempt to score points, five of the players skate around the rink. The object of the game is to score more points than the other team by passing the puck through the other teams goal. Every goal you make is worth one point. Tennis consists of games, sets, and matches. In order to win, you must win 6 games to win a set. If you want to win a match, you must win 2 out of the 3 sets at–least. The scoring goes as following; 0 (love), 15, 30, 40. If your opponent has 30 or less, and you have earned 40, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Essay On Gap Wedge Goal: Review post Total word count in this document: 1011 Title: Best gap wedge With the short game accounting for more than 50% of shots you play in a round, improving your wedge play is the first step to shooting a lower score. The wedge is the most important aspect when playing golf. Acting as the goalkeepers of our game by saving us shots from both turf and sand, golf wedges come in various lofts, finishes, bounce and grinds to help us get closer to the pin from anywhere inside of 125 yards. Gap wedges range in loft from 50 to 55 degrees and are a compromise between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. A gap wedge is particularly critical to use today because the 5–degree difference in degrees between the SW and PW in the 1960s has now grown to exactly 10 degrees. This has made room for golf club companies to respond by inventing a new club to fill the "gap", and of course, encourage us to buy more products. Recommended Products New Cobra S2 Max Gap Wedge RH w/ R–Flex Graphite Shaft: The Cobra S2 Max Gap Wedge has a regular shaft flex and is made with graphite. You don't have to swing much differently when using this wedge from the others. The graphite shaft is a bit lighter, so you need to shorten your backswing on pitch shots and focus on hitting through the ball on both pitches and chips. If you swing graphite–shafted irons, you should also use graphite wedges to maintain a consistent feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
