Importance Of College Education
I would like to acknowledge my entire family for their help and for never giving up on me. I have to thank my parents for tirelessly encouraging a
son who didn't seem that interested in getting a degree for a very long time. They also shouldered an enormous portion of the financial burden

The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to the mountain for religious beliefs and prayers.
Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain, that would defeat the purpose in praying for rain. The holiness

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed nationally in 2009 with the intent of better preparing students for college, and their
eventual careers. Faced with the option of whether to adopt or reject CCSS, the state of Arizona chose the former. The Arizona College and Career
Ready Standards (AZCCRS) were officially adopted in 2010, with required implementation starting in the 2013 school year. The approved common
core subjects are English and math, and place a heavy focus on the development of real world, critical thinking skills. Common Core standards were
adopted by the state of Arizona because of the perceived need to enhance students' abilities to transition from K–12 grade levels to college and the
career world. The AZCCRS clearly dictate what Arizona children should know at each grade level (Expect More Arizona, 2014) Aside from updating
everyday classroom standards, there has also been a push to replace the outdated Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test. While there
was debate over which standardize test to administer, the state of Arizona has decided that Arizona's Measure of Educational Readiness to Inform

Northern Arizona University, founded in 1899, is a public university located in Flagstaff, Arizona. NAU has 36 campuses in the state of Arizona.
Over 7,000 students live on the Flagstaff campus, while living on campus people will say it is most convenient. On campus your surroundings are
very familiar and near by. Like most would guess, living on campus you are open to tons of opportunities and have a lot more of the university
experience you'd be missing out on if you were to live off campus. In order to be admitted into Northern Arizona University, a student must
maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. In my case, I qualify because I currently have a GPA of 3.1. I have passed my required classes and I would only have

On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its life as a mining town in the late 1800's, Jerome, at
one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the
most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money.
With the dawn of the 1900's, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches, schools, and businesses catering to its growing
population. It even had its own post office and five car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in
the town.
By the 1950's, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about 100 people. The perseverance of the remaining
residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next
couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major central Arizona tourist destination.
Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries,wine tasting rooms, and unique shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome

A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque
October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow
leaves swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and shines above and below. Some branches
are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay–like grass drying from these
bracing waves of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an underlying rattling from this grass
all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take–crunch, then
scatter. I break apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above.
A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind touches all within its long reach from way up in the
cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and

will be disturbed" (SnowBowl Expansion, p.1). The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to
the mountain for religious beliefs, ceremonies, and prayers. Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain,
that would defeat the purpose of praying for rain. The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are
being disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl.
One aspect of the whole snow making process that people are overlooking is the moral correctness. The unnatural snow created by the snow machines
will change the mountain in an unnatural way. By artificially adding reclaimed water to the mountain, the resort disturbs the natural environment,
which will inevitably change the terrain of the mountain. Instead we need to learn to accept the natural conditions provided to us, and stop interfering
with our fragile environment.
