Alcoholism In The Navajo Reservation
Alcoholism The term alcoholism is a substance that is obtains through the mouth into the stomach, giving the individual a sudden feel of the alcohol.
It's an addiction to the consumption of alcoholic liquor or to the metal illness and compulsive behavior resulting from alcohol dependency. Within the
Navajo nation reservation, I'd say, alcoholism is a very huge concern in the reservation. Alcohol is obtain and use by Navajo men and women to
teenagers of boys and girls. It may be sold a remote area that is call bootleggers. It's a very complicated drug to make our past and future generation
understand it is not a good source. Prevention conferences do their best to talk to the community. Many with the single homes of other families have

A man or a woman suffers, they have a distinct physical desire to consume alcohol beyond their capacity to control it, regardless of all rules of
common sense. The symtoms of being an alcoholic is having rituals and being irritated/annoyed when these rituals are disturbed or commented on.
This could be drinks before/during/after meals or after work. Dropping hobbies and activities the person used to enjoy; losing interest in them. A
person who abuses alcohol may have many of these signs and symtoms– but they do not have the withdrawal symtoms like an alcoholic does, nor the
same degree of compulsion to drink. Then comes along, binge drinking. When a woman consumes over six units and a man consumes more than
eight units of alcohol in one sitting. Sipping wine, beer, or spirits three or four times per week increases the risk of binge drinking. Men who drink 22
or more units of alcohol a week have a 20% higher rate of admissions into acute care hospitals than non–drinkers. Healthy young adults who regularly
binge drink may have a higher risk of heart disease later in life. "Underage drinking should not be a normal part of growing up. It's a serious and
persistent public health problem that puts our young people and our communities in danger. Even though drinking is often glamorized, the truth is that

Importance Of College Education
I would like to acknowledge my entire family for their help and for never giving up on me. I have to thank my parents for tirelessly encouraging a
son who didn't seem that interested in getting a degree for a very long time. They also shouldered an enormous portion of the financial burden
involved in attending a university. I would also like to thank my younger brother. Ironically, he has been a role model for me, and has been an
example of how to be a better student as well as a better man. Both of my grandmothers have been wonderful and patient with me, while making sure
that I understood that they were both expecting a graduation at some point. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my wife, who has supported and
encouraged me during this last stretch of going back to school after a long hiatus. Without her love and support on a daily basis, I am quite sure I
would not be completing my degree in December.
Introduction
My college education began in the fall of 2001. I graduated from Glenwood High School and enrolled at Arizona State University. I arrived in late
August and started getting acclimated in a new state with all new people. I went from living in Springfield, a town of about 100,000 people at the
time, and being around people I had grown up with my whole life to living in the Phoenix metropolitan area, with more than 6,000,000 people, and I
didn't know anyone. It was exciting and daunting at the same time, and I was completely unprepared, or

Descriptive Essay On Monument Valley Discovery
A trip to visit Monument Valley took me through the mystifying canyons and desert flats of Utah consecrated by the indigenous Navajo people for
their natural beauty. I did not realize that my journey on a winding road through the sovereign Navajo Nation would have such a profound effect on me
when I first arrived at Monument ValleyNavajo Tribal Park. Amidst the towering auburn stones and fine sands, the Valley began to perform a ballad
of whispering winds and endless sky. This performance detailed the relationship between man and nature in Monument Valley and even the largest
lens cannot capture the landscape. I began to interpret Monument Valley (see appendix A) and its importance to me as an example of true nature that
I encountered early in my childhood in movies. It was naive to believe that my childhood recollections of grayscale Western films did it justice, so I
set out on a journey to discover the landscape in person. While my original memories will endure, the enchanting effects of the Valley of the Rocks on
my soul is only relivable amidst the great stones of the Colorado Plateau.
Revered across the world for its unique physical features, the Colorado Plateau (see appendix B) has become synonymous with natural wonder. I took
up the task of visiting the expansive area in August of 2017 to as an odyssey of discovery, and immediately noticed the uniqueness of the landscape.
Upon arrival, it became clear that the Navajo cared for their natural spaces in a meticulous

areas which include the water–carved wonders of the red rocks of Sedona and the water sports of the Verde River with its feeder creeks, springs and
streams. Following are some of my personal favorites in the neighborhood. Dead Horse Ranch State Park Located in old Cottonwood, this large park

Racial Profiling : Developing A Profile
Racism: Developing A Profile Racial profiling is a topic that dates back centuries. With it being one of the major issues encountered today, racial
profiling is a discriminatory conduct held by law enforcement and the criminal justice system. In my eyes, racial profiling is the use of race,
ethnicity, gender, religion, or national origin by law enforcement as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain absent evidence of a
specific crime or criminal behavior (Chanin). In today's world, racial profiling has become a major issue. All too often, minorities are being hauled
off to jail because they "fit the profile". What exactly does it mean for one to "fit the profile"? These people who "fit the profile" are being
discriminated against, and many of these people have been targeted out of ignorance. Bottom line is, while making assumptions and generalizing
entire communities, racial profiling is a violation of human rights and is outright racist. Have you ever been mistaken for a criminal, being an illegal
resident, just because you "fit the profile"? Racial profiling has become such a norm that law enforcement officials are fully taking advantage of the
fact that a certain individual "fits the profile". Racial profiling forces individuals who have engaged in no wrongdoing to endure the burdens of law
enforcement in order to prove their innocence. For each criminal, terrorist, or undocumented immigrant apprehended through racial profiling, many

I have lived in the hot state of Arizona for the past 6 years. It's taken me years to adjust to the outside heat as I'm used to being in a cool climate.
The city of Arizona that my family and I live in is Scottsdale. The absolute location of Arizona is 34.0000В° N, 112.0000В° W, and the relative
location of Arizona is at the border of Mexico between New Mexico and California. Absolute location is the exact spot on the earth expressed by a
coordinate system. Relative location is where it is in relation to other unique objects or places.

This is Arizona, a state that is well known for its desert Basin and Range region. Its state nicknames are The Grand Canyon Region, The Copper State,
The Valentine State, and The Apache State. These nicknames mean and were chosen because the Grand Canyon was located in Arizona, copper was in
abundance, Arizona's date of statehood was February 14(Valentine's Day), 1912 and the Apache Indians inhabited Arizona at the time. These
nicknames were chosen on 1959. Its state motto, "Ditat Deus"(God enriches), was chosen in 1863 because Arizona is abundant in many things.
Arizona's admission date was February 14, 1912 as the 48th state.

Some tree species were only prevalent at the perennial site compared to the non–perennial site. Higher abundance on cottonwoods could reflect their
deeper rooting systems and thus more reliable water resources. A study conducted on Pacific Northwest Trees showed that the larger trees were
reliant on greater amounts of stored water for higher levels of photosynthesis, furthermore there were different percentages of water use per tree
species (Phillips, 2003). This supports our findings as some tree species were host to more mistletoe than others. This may due to the different amount
of water the trees absorb and use. Larger trees such as Populus fremontii. Tree specific factors may affect susceptibility as well. Sycamores are
proposed to have defenses that form physical/chemical barriers prevent colonization parasites, this may explain why we saw little to no mistletoe on

their competitors, orient the organization in the minds of customers and employees, and create a perception of what an organization stands for "(Matrix

Lorna was a very accomplished woman but her biggest accomplishments was in 1962. She received the Phoenix Professional Woman of the Year; in
1965 she received the Southern Pacific Coast Region of Hadassah Humanitarian Award. Lorna was a women who took matters into her own hands and
showed the people in Arizona that woman can do anything they set their mind too. Lorna is a woman with lots of courage and respect here in Arizona.
Another man who was artistically influential that was in Arizona was a star named Alice Cooper. Alice moved to Arizona from Detroit in the 1960's.
He went to Cortez High School, and he now currently lives in Paradise Valley. Alice Cooper was a hard core Rock and Roll artist. Over the course
of Cooper's career he has sold more than 50 million records. One of Alice's most well known song is "School's out" and "I'm Eighteen". His music
did not skyrocket until the late 60's early 70's. He was famous because his music was indifferent from all of the other stars that compete alongside
him. There were many Rock and Roll stars that had concerts and shows just as Alice did, but he did it a little more different. Alice's performance
in his concerts were scary and loud. He wanted to be an artist that sang Rock n Roll, but he wanted to put a more gore spin on his style. He wanted
to have gore and scare into his concerts. His music was a blend of metallic style and pop blends. Many people went to see him because he was different

Description Of The Road Trip

bug bites. We were on the road again in the morning heading to our next hotel in Arkansas. The landscape began to open up, and on either side I
could see fields of corn span for miles. After hundreds of miles, we made it to our next spot and got some much needed sleep. The next day, we

Pine Forests Of The Colorado Plateau
Ponderosa pine forests of the Colorado Plateau cover a large portion of the higher mesas and mountains from elevations of 6000 to approximately 8000
feet. They often form almost pure stands encompassing tens of thousands of acres at elevations above 6500 feet in the southern area. Located southwest
of Flagstaff to the White Mountains of eastern Arizona, the Mogollon Rim comprises the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in Arizona. The
escarpment reaches close to 200 miles across central Arizona, with an average elevation of approximately 7000 feet. It contains the largest ponderosa
pine forest in the United States.
The three–needled Rocky Mountain ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa var. scopulorum) is the prevalent form of pine throughout the Colorado Plateau.
Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii) is commonly associated with the ponderosa pine at lower elevations as well as the New Mexico locust (Robina
neomexicana). At higher elevations it shares habitat with southwestern white pine (Pinus strobiformis), Rocky Mountain white fir (Abies concolor var.
concolor), Rocky Mountain Douglas–fir, (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca), and quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides). Understory plants which are
commonly found in these forests include grasses such as mountain muhly and Arizona fescue, forbs such as lupine, as well as apache plume,

Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Essay
Snow on Arizona SnowBowl
Why would anyone propose to use millions of gallons of water a day to desecrate sacred Indian land, in a State that is going through a drought?
Well, the Arizona SnowBowl has proposed to do just that; make artificial snow on their ski resort. The proposal is for their own economical benefit
with no respect for the holy San Francisco Peaks, where the Ski resort is located.
The San Francisco Peaks are located in Northern Arizona, seven miles outside of Flagstaff. The weather on these peaks is not very consistent. Some
winters there's excess of snow for skiing, then there are years like the 2001– 2002 ski season where there were only four inches of snow the whole

The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to the mountain for religious beliefs and prayers.
Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain, that would defeat the purpose in praying for rain. The holiness
of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl.
The habitat and ecosystem of the San Francisco Peaks is rare. The Mountains are located in the middle of the desert. The vegetation on the mountain is
uncommon. The addition of snow machines and remodeling of ski runs would greatly change the terrain of the mountain. In order to put new ski runs
and snow machines on the mountain many impacting preliminary events must happen first. One major event would be the removal of trees for the
new ski runs and piping for the snow machines. The trees that will be cut are on the edge of a wilderness area, which is out of bounds for skiing.
This means people will be more inclined to ski in out of bounds areas. Also, a gigantic water pipe will be run from the Rio De Flag water treatment
plant to the upper parts of the mountain. This will involve digging trenches, cutting trees, and using heavy machinery. All of these actions will forever
impact the mountain.
The Arizona SnowBowl could not have picked a worse time to remodel their ski

additional client explanation would be helpful. Should the intake be re–formatted so it is easier to read? Why? In general, the intake form is formatted
thoughtfully. My suggestion would be to expand certain areas, include a few more questions and provide a bit more space between topic areas. One
aspect I really appreciated was on the final page where space is provided for the client to add any additional areas of concern. I reviewed quite a few
intake forms for this assignment and found very few that incorporated this aspect. What would you include? What would you remove? Why? I do not
feel there is anything I would remove but there is content I would include. For example, in the beginning of the intake, a demographic section would be
helpful. Addition of this section would give the clinician further insight into the clients cultural systems. Questions might

Colorado River along the greater portion of its lonely and majestic way, shall be forever unvisited and disturbed" (Powell, 3–4). Looking out at the vast
beauty of the Grand Canyon, he was sure that it would never have any importance, and nobody would want to see it. Today, Grand Canyon National
Park is one of the greatest and most well–known natural landmarks in all of the United States.
The Grand Canyon is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Natural World. Within its cracks and bends, the Grand Canyon tells a story of the Native
American people, and the roots and history of our nation. The Grand Canyon is essentially surrounded by various Native American tribes and
reservations, including the Navajo Nation Reservation. The Navajo Nation Reservation, spans 27,000 square miles and spreads across three states:
Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Within its borders lies monuments, national parks, and of course, Navajo people living traditional lifestyles. This
brings in modern day tourists into the reservations which are a different world within our own, where they don't have electricity and they live closely
kindred lives with nature.

The Capital Reef National Park is located in south/central Utah, and is part of the great Colorado Plateau. An area of 378 square miles, the Capital
Reef National Park is just one of many national parks located near the four corners (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico). Like it was mentioned in
the prompt, most of the rock formation in the Capital Reef is very similar to that of the other national parks, however, there is one geologic feature in
particular that attributes to its uniqueness. Other than its unique name, Capital Reef lies "along a north–south– trending monocline, called the Water

Sedona, AZ What the heck? You want to take me to the desert? What kind of vacation is that? That was my wife's first reaction when I said let's go
to Sedona, Arizona. I quickly explained that yes, Sedona is in the middle of the desert, but it is much more than desolate landscapes and sand. So we
packed our bags and embarked on an unforgettable road trip. The first leg of this journey was through familiar California towns, palms trees and
windmills. But once we entered Arizona, the landscape started to change into stark rock formations and rare lonely bushes here and there. And to
complete our desert experience, we encountered a ferocious sand storm. After spending hundred of miles on the road and many pit stops along the way,

Bill Williams Town Description
A Visit to Williams Williams, AZ, is a historic town located west of Flagstaff in Coconino County. With a population of a little over 3000 permanent
residents, Williams seems like just any other small town lost in the mountains of northern Arizona, but nothing could be further from the truth. In an
area originally called Wii GvКјul by the indigenous Havasupai people, the town of Williams was founded in 1881 and incorporated in 1901. Bill
Williams, a locally renowned scout, trapper, and an all–around Mountain Man, was the inspiration for naming the town. Bill Williams Mountain, just
south of town, is also named for him. And, of course, the "Old Bill" statue still stands in Memorial Park. Although Bill Williams is not a household

famed naturalist John Muir who wrote how impressed he was with the railroad's limited impact on the local environment. Costs for the 64–mile trip

They have become more agitated and attack humans if they go near them. Almost every habitat of the Southwestern United States is in the canyon.
The Grand Canyon has also changed plant life. "There are approximately 1,737 known species of vascular plants, 167 species of fungi, 64 species of

A Comparison Of New Hampshire And Arizona
From the rolling hills of New Hampshire to the arid deserts of Arizona, the United States has diversification when it comes to their states. After
having resided in both for the whole of my life, it became quite clear what the two do and do not have in common. Nearly on opposing sides of the
nation, New Hampshire and Arizona have numerous sets of unique and shared qualities. New Hampshire brings to mind serene forests, large moose
and deer lurking behind the heavy greenery, miniscule towns with all familiar faces, and pale colored wooden homes with dark smoke emanating
from the brick chimneys in the colder months. For the first 13 years of my life I lived within the state, and I look back fondly on it. I especially

The exteriors of the houses are made with wood or brick, to build sturdy homes that are highly insulated for the winters. A lot of the houses are quite
old, and sustained from colonial times– so as my best friend's house was, they have quite quirky features, far too many doors, and at times very
frightening yet intriguing dark hallways and basements with mysterious pasts. But, this did cause for the most fun and long hide and seek ever
imagined. New Hampshire, for someone such as myself, is characterized by the contrasting seasons, the nature, the freedom, and the interestingly aged
buildings. Arizona brings to mind Spanish style villas scattered below the desert mountains, towering saguaro cacti planted along the quieter roads,
suburbs and large cities with many diverse individuals inhabiting them, and Christmas lights and dГ©cor strung across a snowless green and rocky
ground. For nearly 5 years, I have lived in the state of Arizona. Within the first minute of stepping out of the airport, the climate and weather was
extremely notable. Amid Monsoon season, it felt nearly equivalent to putting my face directly in an oven that had been active for more than enough
hours. But excluding the late spring and summer months, the fall and winter season are considerably temperate and pleasant. The fall is ideal for long
strolls with family, sporting nothing warmer more than a flannel shirt, at most. The winter does become cold throughout night, but there is

Arizona College And Career Ready Standards Policy Brief
To: Professor Stritch
From: Lexis Townsend
Date: November 14, 2014
Subject: Arizona College and Career Ready Standards Policy Brief
Policy and Background:
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed nationally in 2009 with the intent of better preparing students for college, and their
eventual careers. Faced with the option of whether to adopt or reject CCSS, the state of Arizona chose the former. The Arizona College and Career
Ready Standards (AZCCRS) were officially adopted in 2010, with required implementation starting in the 2013 school year. The approved common
core subjects are English and math, and place a heavy focus on the development of real world, critical thinking skills. Common Core standards were
adopted by the state of Arizona because of the perceived need to enhance students' abilities to transition from K–12 grade levels to college and the
career world. The AZCCRS clearly dictate what Arizona children should know at each grade level (Expect More Arizona, 2014) Aside from updating
everyday classroom standards, there has also been a push to replace the outdated Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test. While there
was debate over which standardize test to administer, the state of Arizona has decided that Arizona's Measure of Educational Readiness to Inform
Teaching (AZMERIT) will be the best tool to measure the success of the new educational standards. As with most new policies, there are strong
opinions about the new standards.

Health Care Access in Arizona Recently the Untied States top priority has been to provide accessible and affordable health care to every American.
Those that lack access to coverage find it much more difficult to seek proper treatment and when they do they maybe left with astronomical medical
bills. The CommanWealth Fund found that one–third or thirty three percent of Americans forgo health care because of costs and one–fifth or twenty
percent are thus left with medical bills that have problems being able to pay. The federal government, through the Affordable Care Act (2010), has

Governor Brewer also planned on taxing hospitals in order to receive funds for the program. Her reasoning in doing so is because Arizona already
charges a two percent insurance premium tax and a provider tax on nursing homes (Roy, A. 2013). She also feels that by expandingMedicaid, hospitals
will start to receive payment for services that would have otherwise not been paid for by those who are uninsured. For those adults with children that
are not eligible for Medicaid but their income is not enough for private insurance, KidsCare was an option until it froze in January 2010 due to a
cost–cutting effort. KidsCare is a state sponsored insurance program for low–income families that is part of the federal Children's Health Insurance
Program (CHIP). Arizona is currently the only state that does not have a CHIP program which forces families that were on the program to partake in
the health care exchange and pay for private insurance or forgo health coverage and be uninsured (Whiteman, M., 2014). The number of children
covered at the time of the program freeze went from 45,000 to about 2,000, which was a ninety–five percent drop (Whiteman, M., 2014). Governor Jan
Brewer proposed to restore coverage to thousand of children through KidsCare II, where Phoenix Children's Hospital, Maricopa Integrated Health
System, and the University of Arizona Health Network would pull money together and receive extra federal funds. The federal funds that the

could have, claiming that radioactive levels tend to be above the natural background. Bahr argues that the aquifer protection permit is essentially a

The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain
On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its life as a mining town in the late 1800's, Jerome, at
one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the
most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money.
With the dawn of the 1900's, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches, schools, and businesses catering to its growing
population. It even had its own post office and five car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in
the town.
By the 1950's, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about 100 people. The perseverance of the remaining
residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next
couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major central Arizona tourist destination.
Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, wine tasting rooms, and unique shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome
exists today in the form of local supernatural legends and ghost tours. With its proximity to Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Interstate–17 and its unique
shops and restaurants, Jerome is a must see destination when traveling in central Arizona.

Meadow Descriptive Writing
A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque
October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow
leaves swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and shines above and below. Some branches
are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay–like grass drying from these
bracing waves of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an underlying rattling from this grass
all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take–crunch, then
scatter. I break apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above.
A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind touches all within its long reach from way up in the
cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and
back again with each breeze it comes in waves: calm, a slight tickle as it brushes against me, then slam, and calm again. The breeze sifts through the

Snow on Arizona SnowBowl?
Works Cited Missing
"A typical Ski season at the Arizona Snow–Bowl lasts from December to Easter" (Arizona SnowBowl Upgrade proposed Action, September 2002,
p.2). The Arizona Snow–Bowl, which is located in the San Francisco Peaks, seven miles outside of Flagstaff, Arizona was only open for four days last
year! Alarming? Yes, this is why the Arizona Snow bowl has released a fool proof plan, which consists of making their own snow!
The Arizona SnowBowl's fool proof plan is to remodel their whole ski resort. The remodeling would include the building of one new chair lift, the
addition of new ski runs, maintenance work on three existing chair lifts, lighting for night time skiing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The evidence that these people are using supports their opinions very clearly.
"Many of these tribes hold true that if this Holy Mountain is disturbed, than so too the fabric of their culture, their spirituality and their livelihood
will be disturbed" (SnowBowl Expansion, p.1). The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to
the mountain for religious beliefs, ceremonies, and prayers. Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain,
that would defeat the purpose of praying for rain. The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are
being disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl.
One aspect of the whole snow making process that people are overlooking is the moral correctness. The unnatural snow created by the snow machines
will change the mountain in an unnatural way. By artificially adding reclaimed water to the mountain, the resort disturbs the natural environment,
which will inevitably change the terrain of the mountain. Instead we need to learn to accept the natural conditions provided to us, and stop interfering
with our fragile environment.
The habitat and ecosystem of the San Francisco Peaks is rare. The Mountains are located in the middle of the desert, so the

It's an addiction to the consumption of alcoholic liquor or to the metal illness and compulsive behavior resulting from alcohol dependency. Within the Navajo nation reservation, I'd say, alcoholism is a very huge concern in the reservation. Alcohol is obtain and use by Navajo men and women to teenagers of boys and girls. It may be sold a remote area that is call bootleggers. It's a very complicated drug to make our past and future generation understand it is not a good source. A man or a woman suffers, they have a distinct physical desire to consume alcohol beyond their capacity to control it, regardless of all rules of common sense. The symtoms of being an alcoholic is having rituals and being irritated/annoyed when these rituals are disturbed or commented on. This could be drinks before/during/after meals or after work. Dropping hobbies and activities the person used to enjoy; losing interest in them. A person who abuses alcohol may have many of these signs and symtoms– but they do not have the withdrawal symtoms like an alcoholic does, nor the same degree of compulsion to drink. Then comes along, binge drinking. When a woman consumes over six units and a man consumes more than eight units of alcohol in one sitting. Sipping wine, beer, or spirits three or four times per week increases the risk of binge drinking. Men who drink 22 or more units of alcohol a week have a 20% higher rate of admissions into acute care hospitals than non–drinkers. Healthy young adults who regularly binge drink may have a higher risk of heart disease later in life. "Underage drinking should not be a normal part of growing up. It's a serious and persistent public health problem that puts our young people and our communities in danger. Even though drinking is often glamorized, the truth is that ... • 2. Importance Of College Education I would like to acknowledge my entire family for their help and for never giving up on me. I have to thank my parents for tirelessly encouraging a son who didn't seem that interested in getting a degree for a very long time. They also shouldered an enormous portion of the financial burden involved in attending a university. I would also like to thank my younger brother. Ironically, he has been a role model for me, and has been an example of how to be a better student as well as a better man. Both of my grandmothers have been wonderful and patient with me, while making sure that I understood that they were both expecting a graduation at some point. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge my wife, who has supported and encouraged me during this last stretch of going back to school after a long hiatus. Without her love and support on a daily basis, I am quite sure I would not be completing my degree in December. Introduction My college education began in the fall of 2001. I graduated from Glenwood High School and enrolled at Arizona State University. I arrived in late August and started getting acclimated in a new state with all new people. I went from living in Springfield, a town of about 100,000 people at the time, and being around people I had grown up with my whole life to living in the Phoenix metropolitan area, with more than 6,000,000 people, and I didn't know anyone. • 3. Descriptive Essay On Monument Valley Discovery A trip to visit Monument Valley took me through the mystifying canyons and desert flats of Utah consecrated by the indigenous Navajo people for their natural beauty. I did not realize that my journey on a winding road through the sovereign Navajo Nation would have such a profound effect on me when I first arrived at Monument ValleyNavajo Tribal Park. Amidst the towering auburn stones and fine sands, the Valley began to perform a ballad of whispering winds and endless sky. This performance detailed the relationship between man and nature in Monument Valley and even the largest lens cannot capture the landscape. I began to interpret Monument Valley (see appendix A) and its importance to me as an example of true nature that I encountered early in my childhood in movies. It was naive to believe that my childhood recollections of grayscale Western films did it justice, so I set out on a journey to discover the landscape in person. While my original memories will endure, the enchanting effects of the Valley of the Rocks on my soul is only relivable amidst the great stones of the Colorado Plateau. Revered across the world for its unique physical features, the Colorado Plateau (see appendix B) has become synonymous with natural wonder. I took up the task of visiting the expansive area in August of 2017 to as an odyssey of discovery, and immediately noticed the uniqueness of the landscape. Upon arrival, it became clear that the Navajo cared for their natural spaces in a meticulous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Racial Profiling : Developing A Profile Racism: Developing A Profile Racial profiling is a topic that dates back centuries. With it being one of the major issues encountered today, racial profiling is a discriminatory conduct held by law enforcement and the criminal justice system. In my eyes, racial profiling is the use of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or national origin by law enforcement as a factor in deciding whom to investigate, arrest, or detain absent evidence of a specific crime or criminal behavior (Chanin). In today's world, racial profiling has become a major issue. All too often, minorities are being hauled off to jail because they "fit the profile". What exactly does it mean for one to "fit the profile"? These people who "fit the profile" are being discriminated against, and many of these people have been targeted out of ignorance. Bottom line is, while making assumptions and generalizing entire communities, racial profiling is a violation of human rights and is outright racist. Have you ever been mistaken for a criminal, being an illegal resident, just because you "fit the profile"? Racial profiling has become such a norm that law enforcement officials are fully taking advantage of the fact that a certain individual "fits the profile". Racial profiling forces individuals who have engaged in no wrongdoing to endure the burdens of law enforcement in order to prove their innocence. For each criminal, terrorist, or undocumented immigrant apprehended through racial profiling, many more law abiding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some tree species were only prevalent at the perennial site compared to the non–perennial site. Higher abundance on cottonwoods could reflect their deeper rooting systems and thus more reliable water resources. A study conducted on Pacific Northwest Trees showed that the larger trees were reliant on greater amounts of stored water for higher levels of photosynthesis, furthermore there were different percentages of water use per tree species (Phillips, 2003). This supports our findings as some tree species were host to more mistletoe than others. This may due to the different amount of water the trees absorb and use. Larger trees such as Populus fremontii. Tree specific factors may affect susceptibility as well. Sycamores are proposed to have defenses that form physical/chemical barriers prevent colonization parasites, this may explain why we saw little to no mistletoe on Planatus wrightii's at either site (Grime and Pearce 1995). Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Essay Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Why would anyone propose to use millions of gallons of water a day to desecrate sacred Indian land, in a State that is going through a drought? Well, the Arizona SnowBowl has proposed to do just that; make artificial snow on their ski resort. The proposal is for their own economical benefit with no respect for the holy San Francisco Peaks, where the Ski resort is located. The San Francisco Peaks are located in Northern Arizona, seven miles outside of Flagstaff. The weather on these peaks is not very consistent. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl. The habitat and ecosystem of the San Francisco Peaks is rare. The Mountains are located in the middle of the desert. The vegetation on the mountain is uncommon. The addition of snow machines and remodeling of ski runs would greatly change the terrain of the mountain. In order to put new ski runs and snow machines on the mountain many impacting preliminary events must happen first. One major event would be the removal of trees for the new ski runs and piping for the snow machines. The trees that will be cut are on the edge of a wilderness area, which is out of bounds for skiing. This means people will be more inclined to ski in out of bounds areas. Also, a gigantic water pipe will be run from the Rio De Flag water treatment plant to the upper parts of the mountain. This will involve digging trenches, cutting trees, and using heavy machinery. I understand the intake is intended to be brief but additional client explanation would be helpful. Should the intake be re–formatted so it is easier to read? Why? In general, the intake form is formatted thoughtfully. My suggestion would be to expand certain areas, include a few more questions and provide a bit more space between topic areas. One aspect I really appreciated was on the final page where space is provided for the client to add any additional areas of concern. I reviewed quite a few intake forms for this assignment and found very few that incorporated this aspect. What would you include? What would you remove? Why? • 32. A Comparison Of New Hampshire And Arizona From the rolling hills of New Hampshire to the arid deserts of Arizona, the United States has diversification when it comes to their states. After having resided in both for the whole of my life, it became quite clear what the two do and do not have in common. Nearly on opposing sides of the nation, New Hampshire and Arizona have numerous sets of unique and shared qualities. New Hampshire brings to mind serene forests, large moose and deer lurking behind the heavy greenery, miniscule towns with all familiar faces, and pale colored wooden homes with dark smoke emanating from the brick chimneys in the colder months. For the first 13 years of my life I lived within the state, and I look back fondly on it. I especially enjoyed how distinct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exteriors of the houses are made with wood or brick, to build sturdy homes that are highly insulated for the winters. A lot of the houses are quite old, and sustained from colonial times– so as my best friend's house was, they have quite quirky features, far too many doors, and at times very frightening yet intriguing dark hallways and basements with mysterious pasts. But, this did cause for the most fun and long hide and seek ever imagined. New Hampshire, for someone such as myself, is characterized by the contrasting seasons, the nature, the freedom, and the interestingly aged buildings. Arizona brings to mind Spanish style villas scattered below the desert mountains, towering saguaro cacti planted along the quieter roads, suburbs and large cities with many diverse individuals inhabiting them, and Christmas lights and dГ©cor strung across a snowless green and rocky ground. For nearly 5 years, I have lived in the state of Arizona. Within the first minute of stepping out of the airport, the climate and weather was extremely notable. Amid Monsoon season, it felt nearly equivalent to putting my face directly in an oven that had been active for more than enough hours. But excluding the late spring and summer months, the fall and winter season are considerably temperate and pleasant. The fall is ideal for long strolls with family, sporting nothing warmer more than a flannel shirt, at most. The winter does become cold throughout night, but there is ... Arizona College And Career Ready Standards Policy Brief To: Professor Stritch From: Lexis Townsend Date: November 14, 2014 Subject: Arizona College and Career Ready Standards Policy Brief Policy and Background: The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed nationally in 2009 with the intent of better preparing students for college, and their eventual careers. Faced with the option of whether to adopt or reject CCSS, the state of Arizona chose the former. The Arizona College and Career Ready Standards (AZCCRS) were officially adopted in 2010, with required implementation starting in the 2013 school year. The approved common core subjects are English and math, and place a heavy focus on the development of real world, critical thinking skills. Common Core standards were adopted by the state of Arizona because of the perceived need to enhance students' abilities to transition from K–12 grade levels to college and the career world. The AZCCRS clearly dictate what Arizona children should know at each grade level (Expect More Arizona, 2014) Aside from updating everyday classroom standards, there has also been a push to replace the outdated Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) test. While there was debate over which standardize test to administer, the state of Arizona has decided that Arizona's Measure of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AZMERIT) will be the best tool to measure the success of the new educational standards. As with most new policies, there are strong opinions about the new standards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those that lack access to coverage find it much more difficult to seek proper treatment and when they do they maybe left with astronomical medical bills. The CommanWealth Fund found that one–third or thirty three percent of Americans forgo health care because of costs and one–fifth or twenty percent are thus left with medical bills that have problems being able to pay. Governor Brewer also planned on taxing hospitals in order to receive funds for the program. Her reasoning in doing so is because Arizona already charges a two percent insurance premium tax and a provider tax on nursing homes (Roy, A. 2013). She also feels that by expandingMedicaid, hospitals will start to receive payment for services that would have otherwise not been paid for by those who are uninsured. For those adults with children that are not eligible for Medicaid but their income is not enough for private insurance, KidsCare was an option until it froze in January 2010 due to a cost–cutting effort. KidsCare is a state sponsored insurance program for low–income families that is part of the federal Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Arizona is currently the only state that does not have a CHIP program which forces families that were on the program to partake in the health care exchange and pay for private insurance or forgo health coverage and be uninsured (Whiteman, M., 2014). The number of children covered at the time of the program freeze went from 45,000 to about 2,000, which was a ninety–five percent drop (Whiteman, M., 2014). All water is evaporated according to Moore, including rain and snowfall, but opponents of the mining proposition fear the potential impact uranium could have, claiming that radioactive levels tend to be above the natural background. Referring to mining industry claims that these sites have minimal surface disturbance Bahr states, "It is blight upon the land... but it doesn't take much for contamination." Conservation groups argue that irreversible damage to important waters like Havasu Creek will occur if radioactive contaminants reach the groundwater that supply springs and seeps in the Grand Canyon. In addition to environmental concerns, opponents argue that government regulation is too lax and as Bahr states, "It is all too easy to mine on public lands and the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management have made it extremely easy to validate claims." • 39. The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its life as a mining town in the late 1800's, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money. With the dawn of the 1900's, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches, schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in the town. By the 1950's, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about 100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major central Arizona tourist destination. Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, wine tasting rooms, and unique shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome exists today in the form of local supernatural legends and ghost tours. Along with the EPA, the Regional Optimization Master Plan (ROMP) is also involved in this program. ROMP is an important environmental factor because it is working towards better water quality, clarity, and an enhanced environment for wildlife. • 41. Meadow Descriptive Writing A crisp breeze bends, splits, and shifts the life around me as I slowly turn, taking in the wide, open meadow. I am in a basin on a picturesque October morning under a soft, blue sky. The mountain is remarkably bold, beautiful, yet, peaceful and right. Golden is the meadow with the yellow leaves swaying on the branches casting their color above me and fallen leaves still vibrant; light swirls and shines above and below. Some branches are bare as fall strips away summer. This meadow situated in the basin of the San Francisco Peaks; a meadow with hay–like grass drying from these bracing waves of winds gives me goosebumps as I shiver my writing slants downwards and then juts up. There is an underlying rattling from this grass all bending to the East from these gusts. Pine needles from the Ponderosas are sprinkled on the ground and crunch under each step I take–crunch, then scatter. I break apart these pine needles and other debris, even some dry leaves from the aspens above. A meadow with ponderosas, an incline with aspens, all situated on this vast mountain. The wind touches all within its long reach from way up in the cloudless sky to the lowest it can extend, picking up the dirt and blowing it back in my eyes as I write this under a swaying tree. Left then right, and back again with each breeze it comes in waves: calm, a slight tickle as it brushes against me, then slam, and calm again. The breeze sifts through the sand each particle blends into the next. The only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to the mountain for religious beliefs, ceremonies, and prayers. Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain, that would defeat the purpose of praying for rain. The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are being disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl. One aspect of the whole snow making process that people are overlooking is the moral correctness. The unnatural snow created by the snow machines will change the mountain in an unnatural way. By artificially adding reclaimed water to the mountain, the resort disturbs the natural environment, which will inevitably change the terrain of the mountain.
