Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world system over time. A simulation model constructs a conceptual framework that describes a system using mathematical and logical relationships. A simulation study can help understand how a system operates by testing new designs and policies without committing resources. It allows manipulating time and answering "what if" questions. While simulation requires training and can be time-consuming, software templates and output analysis tools reduce these challenges.
