The Century Of The Self
"The century of the self" tells the disputed story of the growth of the mass–consumer society in the United States. "Happiness Machine" shows about
how policy and business learned to create and dominate mass democracy society. Signund Freud is the founder of psychoanalysis that his ideas about

make people want things they did not need through systematically linking mass–produced goods their unconscious desires. Therefore, society became a
new world about how to control the masses and satisfying people in a selfish desires.
After I watch this documentary, I will directly link to the Frankfurt school theory. The Frankfurt school will focus on the system of capitalism and the

How Could One Man Affect Millions?
Over the past few weeks we have studied and exhausted the topic of the Holocaust, the knowledge I had prior to the studying of the holocaust is
incomparable to what I now know. The Holocaust was an event in history marking it as one of the most tragic and devastating moments for humanity,
certainly most for jewish peoples, gypsies, homosexuals and disabled people. In Hitlers attempt to create a perfect race, he annihilated, tortured, and
stripped the people he thought as "impure" of all dignity they had as humans. More disturbing, is the question of how one person such as Hitler was
able to alter the lives of millions so devastatingly, in convincing an entire population that Jewish peoples were damned and did not deserve to live.
How are we as humans, hardwired for the desire to connect and share compassion capable of attempting to destroy an entire race of people? Events
such as the Holocaust, and the Holocaust itself needs to be studied and understood, so we can learn from it and work to prevent anything like it from
happening, and although genocides such as the one that occurred in Rwanda still occur, they are nothing as monstrous as that which occurred during
the times of the Holocaust. Ignorant and oppressive acts will always be a part of society, it is human nature to place blame on others, such as what
occurred after the depression in Germany, when Jewish peoples were scapegoated and blamed for the great depression. Due to what we have learned

Metaphor In The Maze
The Maze According to Ferdinand de Saussure's the study of semiotics I found in this movie and its novel for sure many signs signifiers that
signifies a lot of things. Meaning many images shows a lot of concepts. Starting with the Maze. The purpose behind the maze was that making you
confused, lost and disoriented. The maze was serving as a metaphor, in which it represents what is similar to a teenager life, (PS. All the Gladers
were teenagers) and in this case to a teenager in the Glade. First, the maze is playing the symbol of life. In this maze there are many sections. The one
who is running in the maze (Minho) when he sees an opening, he runs quickly into it seeking the exit. During his running and searching for that exit, he
hits a dead end, then he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING. If you look closely to this picture, you will notice that it is the same life as a teenager's. First, he thinks that he
figured things out and he's finally on the right path to be surprised that suddenly everything has changed. Sometimes the reason that you can't find
answers to life is because there is no answers. The same as Newt said in "The Maze Runner" Novel: "Out there's the Maze [...], everything we do–our
whole life, Greenie–revolves around the Maze. Every lovin' second of every lovin' day we spend in honor of the Maze, tryin' to solve somethin'
that's not shown us it has a bloody solution, ya know?" (6.22) For the Gladers too; the aim of the maze is to make them lost and dead. Haunted and
chased by the Grievers. Take a wrong turn in the maze and you are facing death. Whereby, it is important to know all the details in the maze in order
to escape it. The path of life is almost the same; confusing, disorienting trail in which one decision is to define your destiny. Either live or die, be
happy or be hopeless. The

The On The Nature Of Man Is The Desire Of Rule Over...

Final Assignment A paramount aspect to the nature of man is the desire to rule over oneself and ones territory. This theology is not held within the
constraints of the individual but can be observed as the paradigm of many states in which the idea of secession is highly contested. Throughout history
many countries have sought to secure this vital interest through the creation of secessionist movements. However not all of these movements are
successful in quantifying the goal of autonomy. This paper aims to examine secessionism; the causes of secessionist sentiment as well as factors that
result in success or failure via the analysis of secessionist movements in Indonesia and China supplemented by references to Scotland and Catalonia.
The dynamic of secessionist movements can be attributed to four general elements: the identity of the seceding community, the territorial claims of the
seceding community, the leadership of the seceding community and the discontent of the seceding community. For any given secessionist movement
these elements are often common attributes however the degree in which they are relevant is specific to the territory in question. Let us begin our
analysis with issues of identity. It is obvious that if the entirety of a population within a country or territory identifies themselves as sharing a common
ancestry, culture or heritage than the idea of secession wouldn't exist. Therefore the opposite holds true; that

Is There One True Religion Or Is Religion Man Made?
Is there one true religion or is religion man made?
In a nutshell, religion is a composed gathering of convictions, social frameworks, and world perspectives that relate humankind to a request for
presence. Many religions have accounts, images, and hallowed histories that expect to clarify the importance of life, the beginning of life, or the
Universe. Subsequently, these religions may have sorted out practices, ministry, a meaning of what constitutes adherence or participation, blessed
spots, places of worship and sacred writings. The act of religion may incorporate customs, sermons, celebration or love penances, celebrations, wedding
administrations, or different parts of human society. Religions might likewise contain mythology. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changes in these generations have not destroyed the religion per say but enhanced continuity and relevance of the religion to the status quo.
Preservation of Christianity is based on the core principles such as dogma that is a set of rules that are universally believed to be incontrovertibly true.
My Christian background and beliefs, however, have been based on faith rather than rational hypotheses. Is what I believe all a figment of my
imagination?
In his article, Matt Slick asserts that Christianity is the one true religion (Slick). That is what Christians believe and uphold to the truth despite the
lack of plausible evidence to support the hypothesis. Christianity and two other monotheistic religions, Islam and Judaism all refer to Jerusalem as the
Holy City (Fraser) but they don't differ in the ways of worship. Thinking about it, if there is indeed one God, why the difference in religions and ways

One Blind Man To Another In Raymond Carver's Cathedral
Cathedral: One Blind Man to Another
In Raymond Carver's Cathedral, the reader is given a glimpse into the precarious relationship between the narrator and his wife. The narrator shares his
heavily critical point of view on the forthcoming visit from his wife's old friend whom he calls "the blind man" later known as "Robert". Specifically,
Carver uses first person narrative to put the reader in the mindset of the speaker who although keeps information hidden about himself, eventually
exposes a substantial amount of character through his commentary. Slowly but surely he divulges his tremendously insecure, stubborn, and immature
nature when it comes to matters of exhibiting empathy for others and most importantly obtaining the emotional depth for it. The narrator seems to
have formed a bias against Robert based off of his knowledge of him through his wife's stories of her time with him. Beginning the passage, he
expresses his disdain for "the blind man" visiting him and his wife saying he isn't "enthusiastic about his visit" and "his being blind bothered [him]" to
the point of outright stating that it was not "something [he] looked forward to" (p.209). Maintaining the feeling of an obvious dislike towards Robert,
he goes to explain how Robert touched his wife's face, "even her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Communist Leader Joseph Stalin : The Death Of One Man
Communist leader Joseph Stalin once promulgated "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic." Attesting to the manner in
which war assimilates the mind into accepting death, Stalin's words came to fruition in the minds of leaders during the American Civil War, a four
year strife over sectionalism. While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Union was ultimately able to defeat the Confederates States of America in
1865 after the Confederates surrendered. Nonetheless, such defeat could have been avoided in the case that the South held true to their values and
exhibited the resilience which many believed characterized the South. All in all, the Civil War could have become a victory for the Confederate States of

Thus, there is much to ask in regard to the question, "How did the South lose, when one takes into considerations their numerous advantages?"
Foremost the North, also referred to as the Union, had their advantages in facets such as leadership, industry, etc. Therefore, they were secure
logistically, and strategically. Hence, when likened to Sun Tzu's proclamations, the Confederate's enemy, the Union, were "[...] secure at all points."
While the South was superior in some regards, neither side was substantially dominant in comparison to the opposition. Initially, the South had decided
on a defensive strategy which seemed conducive to success when taking into consideration the state of firearm technology at the time. In John Cook's
address titled "Could the South have Won the War," he states "STRATEGY 1– Davis 1 or "Cordon Defence" Strategy: This strategy was used for
much of the first year of the War and involved positioning troops around the whole of the periphery of the Confederacy in an attempt to defend all of
its territory, [...] In the wake of these Federal incursions, the South abandoned their efforts to hold all of their territory." (Cook 4) Such sentiments
affirm the South's initial defensive strategy, which was viewed as an unequivocal strategy for the South to use. Howbeit, the tumble to their eventual
demise lied in the fact that they dismissed their original

My Final Artwork Project Was Produced And Inspired By The...
My final artwork project was produced and inspired by the reading of Herbert Marcuse. It is a glass puppet. This puppet came to life due to the
reflection of his book, titled One Dimensional Man. Marcuse was a German–American philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist. He was
associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory; a social and political philosophical movement of thought. Also during the 60's and 70's, he
became a major theorist of the New Left. This was a broad political movement against capitalism and communist society. His goals were to implement
a broad range of reforms on issues such as civil rights, gay rights, abortion, gender roles, and drugs.
Marcuse critiqued capitalist social structures, as well as the impositions made on human freedom expression and joy. He expressed how we may see
ourselves as free, but we are really living in a false democracy and false sense of freedom which subtly masks an authoritarian rule. In his written works,
he criticized capitalism, modern technology, historical materialism and entertainment culture, arguing that they represent new forms of social control.
These modern cultures strictly divide, brainwash and influence the way we should live. They really do not represent the real world. Specifically the
entertainment business. Entertainers live their millionaire life behind a wall and totally forget and ignore the common folks. They are constantly
selling us things we cannot afford, how thin we should

Summary Of Ray Bradbury's 'Destroy This One Man'
We start off with the exposition where Eckels is taking part in a business transaction in exchange to go back in time for a hunting expedition for
dinosaurs. The man behind the desk gives brief outlines of rules for Eckels, and together with the safari guide (Travis), they travel back to the past.
The rising action starts when Eckels is in the time machine, with visible signs of anxiety. Bradbury starts building on our extent of knowledge by
letting more concise details roll in along with the plot. Essential information is given when Travis clearly define the reasons of not straying from the
path ,"Destroy this one man, and you destroy a race, a people, an entire history of life".

component you should consider – influencers. By connecting to these highly respected individuals, you are able to tap to their vast audience, to get
valuable insights regarding the industry and ultimately, to get some awesome links. Hey, at the end of the day, you might even make a good
friend. Nevertheless, there are numerous things that need to be considered before approaching these guys. First of all, most of them are really
busy. They have proven to be successful, already made a name for themselves and large following on social networks which means that they are
most likely swamped by jobs and different requests. There are lots of other guys who want the same thing as you do, bothering them for days on
end. If you really wish to make a real connection, you need to observe things from their perspective and play by their rules. OK, but how do you do
this? Follow these 3 simple steps to establish a long–lasting connection with an influencer the proper way. Step 1 – Finding the influencers Well, this is

One Of The Parables In The Richest Man In Babylon
You go to work every day and put in 8 or 9 hours, or your shift, however long that is. Then you do it again, and again, and again until Friday. You may
be on call 24/7.
You are doing it to pay your bills–TV, medical, water. You are doing it so you can have a nice home and a car and food on the table, sure. But
hopefully on some level you are doing it for yourself.
A part of all you earn is yours to keep.
This is one of the parables in The Richest Man in Babylon, a series of financial pamphlets that were compiled as a book in the early 20th century.
Adopting this attitude–also known as paying yourself first–can be life–changing.

Those who earn high incomes need to have higher savings rates. They usually do, but not always. Higher earners can be attractive targets for
cost–cutting initiatives, and it can be difficult to replace a high salary quickly on the job market.
The typical American saves 5.4 percent of income. And that's for everything! Unfortunately for many families the reality at home is even worse, since
these numbers factor in those who save a lot and those who don't save anything. The average household in the 32–37 age range has set aside only $500
for retirement. That is not enough.
The good news is that most any able–bodied person in the United States who starts reasonably young and focuses can achieve a measure of financial
security. In my work as a financial planner, I've seen utility workers, administrative personnel, and the self–employed all reach financial success– with
spending less than they earn being the common factor.
80 Is Enough. Strive to live on no more than 80 percent of what you make. This will allow you to keep least 10 percent of what you earn for your
future, and then you can be generous with the other 10 percent.
Your worth is not your bank account. But your labors are valuable, and you should make sure you retain some of that value for yourself.
A part of all you earn is yours to

The Man Who Was Almost a Man
What does it mean for someone to become a man? How does one get the key or password to becoming a man? Some believe that becoming a man is
just referring to a coming of age, and it somewhat is, however there is more. In the short story "The Man Who Was Almost a Man" by Richard white,
Dave, the main character is a young boy trying to become a man and is searching for the key. However, there are certain ways to do things in society,
and there are ways to not, and both of these ways have their benefits and consequences. In this short story Dave sees the gun as a symbol of manhood,
and it will set him free of his childhood.
Throughout the short story the reader can tell that Dave is eager to leave his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dave still shows thoughts pertaining to the attainable manliness of having a gun by thoughts of shooting at Mr. Hawkins's house. It seems as if
Dave's thoughts are blurred and all he sees is the key to becoming a man is having a gun and using it so he is doing this as much as he can along
with his crave for power, even though it is just causing others to have even less respect for a reckless irresponsible child with a gun. However, Dave's
wishes were still granted when he is forced to start maturing into being a man more rapidly than others and having to take responsibility for his actions.
Every choice has its benefits and its consequences, unluckily, with Dave's choices the consequences greatly outweighed the benefits that were being
received. Dave had the wrong idea and believed that a gun could symbolize becoming a man whenever all it actually did is rush him into something
that he is not ready for, and cause him to do wrong in the eyes of his family and the society. Back to the question, "What does it mean for someone to
become a man?" One could say that Dave eventually learned his lesson by the end of the short story that you cannot push respect upon yourself by
others with force. Becoming a man is by definition when "a person with the qualities often associated with males such as bravery, spirit, or toughness"
grows out of their childhood and matures into adulthood. When

Iceland was not ruled by one man; they had a unique system that consisted by an organization called Althing, chieftains that served as witnesses and

the Laws mandated that if a neighbor had enough supply they were obligated to sell to the fellow citizen in need. During one summer the hay
supply was low leaving a few of Ketil tenants without hay during the winter which lead Ketil and his tenants to Thorir how hay supply was

Analysis Of Charles Dickens 'No. One Branch LineThe...
If a person were to see the same ghost multiple times before varying events, what would be the reasoning for the ghost sightings? In Charles Dickens'
short story, "No. 1 Branch Line: The Signal–Man," one of the biggest questions posed is "Why is the Signal–Man the only person who can see the
ghost and what does it want?". One answer to that question is that the ghost is both a harbinger of death and ferryman of the dead, and that the
signal–man is close to dying, which is why he sees the ghost. Another answer to the question of what the ghost in "No. 1 Branch Line: The
Signal–Man" wants is that it is trying to warn the signal–man of impeding danger. The first time that the signal–man saw the specter, the "memorable
accident on [the] line happened, and within ten hours the dead and wounded were brought along through the tunnel over the spot where the figure had
stood." (Dickens 8). The second time the signal–man saw the ghost, which was "six or seven months [after]," the ghost "'leaned against the shaft of the
light, with both hands before the face.'" (Dickens 8–9). That same day, a "'beautiful young lady had died instantaneously in one of the compartments
[of the train]'" (Dickens 9). If the ghost was trying to warn the signal–man of these tragic events that occurred, it would have given him a longer notice
prior to the events. The ghost also would have been more specific about exactly what was going to happen, rather than just appearing for no apparent
reason. The

One Of The Mysteries That Have Always Troubled The Man
One of the mysteries that have always troubled the man and with which he frequently has to live is suffering and pain. It asks or we wonder about
its meaning and the cause of this experience that wears us down and can even take away the peace and happiness. So in my research I want to use an
excellent encyclical of John Paul II "Salvifici Doloris" who explains the purpose of suffering.
Understanding the meaning of human pain and suffering is one of the most complex challenges of the Christian faith. Indeed, we can ask ourselves, If
God is love, and almighty why does he allow pain in the world? Why does not He eliminate suffering, making all His creatures happy? Suffering is a
theme that has accompanied man throughout history. Since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Paul II makes a very clear distinction of suffering, and one of the suffering more painful is when human beings commit sin and stain the soul, and
we know that is truth because when you commit a sin against God, you can feel the suffering that sometimes we cannot find the words to explain, it's
like you lose something from your soul. This moral suffering, we can cure through the sacrament of reconciliation that is the medicine that Jesus Christ
left us before he departed from world.
Human suffering is a complex aspect of man 's life that even medical science cannot easily answer, even when it is committed not only to
prolonging human life, but above all, to avoiding suffering. In fact, John Paul II says:"Man suffers in different ways, ways not always considered
by medicine, not even in its most advanced specializations. Suffering is something which is still wider than sickness, more complex and at the same
time still more deeply rooted in humanity itself" . Pope Paul II here makes a reference to the suffering of body who is Biological and physical that is
caused by illness, this corporal suffering make us to find any solution because the suffering makes us to lose our happiness, for that reason, we search
for any solution be leave us a mark that our mind can never forget

One Punch Man
Being a comic book and manga reader, I always fell in love with the plot, read the words and skim through the drawings without stopping to think
about the symbolism of the drawings on the pages. While reading McCloud's "Understanding Comics" and observing Molly Bang's theories on
shapes and lines, my mind has opened a broader understanding of what is right in front of me, when I'm reading a manga or a comic book. To begin
with, in chapter four, McCloud talks about how some artists use lines, multiple images or streaking to show motion. In the manga One Punch Man the
artist Yusuke Murata shows Saitama's movement for the "serious hop" attack with streaking and multiple images, to show the different ways Saitama
is approaching his opponent. Also, you can imply Molly Bang's theory on diagonal shapes that show tension or motion in which Yusuke uses both
(Look at picture #1). You can see how under Saitama there are also pointy edges that go diagonally so one can feel threatened as Molly Bang said.
Also you can clearly see the many silhouettes of Saitama to show his special attack much clearer.
Second, Molly Bang and Scott McCloud both touch base with color. How the darker color is associated with evil like in this picture (Look at picture

The introduction of Herbert Marcuse's book, "One–dimensional Man," shows us the problem that a democratic society creates. Though this book was
written back in 1964, many can agree that what he says is true in today's society. Different scenarios are also brought up to show us how things will be
affected due to the advancements of technology. Marcuse wants us to see what will happen and what has happened to society through a series of
changes.
Marcuse talked a lot about the necessities and luxuries of life. He called these the "true needs" and the "repressive needs." He makes it a point to show
us that the changes in society cause us to think differently. Most people are beginning to mistaken the "true needs" with the "repressive needs." ... Show

By this he wants us to realize that humans will soon be replaced by technology. There would be no need for people to be around factories anymore
because everything can be done much faster and much more efficient with machines. This is the type of society that we are heading into. This is all
due to the people that own these factories. The uses of machines have proven to be much more efficient and much more productive. Humans just can't
perform certain tasks that are needed to mass produce products. They just may be able to but the quality of the work wouldn't compare to that of a
machine's work.
"Today political power asserts itself through its power over machine process and over the technical organization...." (3). We can all agree that this
statement still holds true today. The executive decisions, which are made in today's society, are all made by those who own major companies or
corporations. They have the most power because they have the most money. Their factories are mainly machines that create their product. Though they
still require some manpower to run their system, they mainly rely on their machines, These select few people utilize the full potential use of technical,
scientific and mechanical productivity (3).

One mans theory: A solution?
In 1990 John Martin an Oceanographer presented the idea that phytoplankton are responsible for almost half of the photosynthesis that occurs on the
earth.(Dopyra, 1996) Photosynthesis is an important part of the carbon cycle, fixating carbon from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen as a byproduct

Expectations ran high, and for over 10 years scientists raced to plan and execute experiments to see if his theory would provide a solution for the

How Technology Has Fallen So Far Behind?
MathLearn
Executive Overview
Today's mobile application ecosystem is being bombarded with radical innovations in many fields. However, not all areas have yet to benefit from the
mobile technology. For example, there are few applications for learning mathematics that go beyond the traditional chalk and blackboard approaches.
This is a problem. Approximately 65% of the population are visual learners, 30% are auditory learners, and 5% are kinesthetic learners. Around the
globe there are special math classes and tutors for those students who find math hard and confusing.
Traditional ways of teaching math do not address the visual and kinesthetic learners; they focus on the auditory and ability to memorize patterns and
relationships. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MathLearn directly addresses these issues. MathLearn represents the accumulation of over twenty years of research and development, and the research
has resulted in technology for helping students visually and intuitively understand mathematical concepts. MathLearn is not for students who are good
at math, find math easy, and enjoy math. It is for all of the other students. MathLearn does not use third party libraries for its visualization and
interaction. All of the MathLearn proprietary libraries have been designed with one purpose in mind – teaching math in a visual and intuitive way, to
allow students to understand. MathLearn has not been designed to be a mathematical calculator, to help teach history, language, or poetry. This is the
first characteristic that makes MathLearn unique.
The objective for MathLearn is to provide an interactive, visually and kinesthetically engaging application for students to learn math at their own pace,
either in a homeschooling environment or when seeking remedial assistance outside of class hours. There are four main subsystems that compose
MathLearn: the MathLearn core technology and virtual machine, the mobile device supporting layer, the back end servers and administration systems,
and the MathLearn learning applications. MathLearn's non–profit business model will make the majority of this technology available to those who
need it, regardless of the ability to pay. At the present time, the MathLearn core

One Man Can Change America
The song "One Man Can Change The World" shows how people can survive poverty and get out by grinding. It has everyday situations in it that
have actually happened to real people that can happen everyday. These type of situations are very common in America but are treated like nothing
big, when it is really big. In the first stanza the speaker tells us his dreams and hopes and how through everything you will never be alone. The second
stanza describes how success is on the he can feel it in the distance. About the middle of the song he is reminding his friends and family that one man
can change the world. Then the next stanza describes how he is grinding to get where he got. About the fifth and sixth stanza he ends the song saying

Music Video Analysis : 'One Man Can Change The World'
rant Griffin
Dr. Kate Huber
English Composition
3 October 2017
Music Video Analysis In the United States, cultural divide is evident almost everywhere you go. Police are often the ones blamed for divide. In the
past couple of years, many African American men have been killed by police in streets across America. With most of the cops being white, the black
community has linked these killings to racism. Black groups have become furious with these killings. African Americans are taking a stand against
police and racism on an everyday basis. We see these stands being taken place on social media and TV. Although most people would look at this video
thinking it's about speaking out against police, I see a different message. The music video by Big Sean, "One Man Can Change The World",
demonstrates an inspirational impact somebody can have on social issues. The music video, "One Man Can Change The World", provides many
opportunities for analysis and inspiration. Something that jumps out during this video that needs analyzing is the racial stereotypes. In the unit two
reading, it talks about a problem within hip–hop music videos. The videos supposedly put out bad messages and "perpetuate" stereotypes upon
themselves. Fans of hip–hop say that "hip–hop music is a reflection of the realities of life in much of black America" (Caliendo 35). Although this
music video has characteristics of stereotypes, they don't seem offensive. Big Sean, Kanye West, and John

One Man Two Guvnors, Womens Roles
'Women's roles are often tokenistic in dramatic comedy.' To what extent do you believe this to be the case in relation to the play you are studying?
Some argue that women's roles are often tokenistic in dramatic comedy, since women often have smaller or less important roles than male characters.
This may apply to the female characters in 'One Man, Two Guvnors' depending on how you interpret the word 'tokenistic'. The tokenism of a character
may be assessed in terms of the size and significance, or by analysing the stereotypes and complexity of their characters.
In 'One Man, Two Guvnors', there are three female characters, the uneven ratio of women to men perhaps suggest that the female roles within are less
significant than male roles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, a woman dressing up as man is nothing out of the ordinary. It was very common in comedic plays for women to be playing a man's role
and this was used to demonstrate the difference in hierarchy between men and women.
The complexity of Rachel's character differs within the play. On the one hand, Rachel is portrayed in a male disguise showing she has
independence as she has taken matters into her own hands, her successful manipulation through disguise perhaps demonstrating her intelligence
and how easily women can dupe men. This could also suggest that she is not acting according to the social 'norms' for women in the 60s
demonstrating that she doesn't fear people's views of her although she is a woman. She demonstrates her strength and independence as she takes
matters into her own hands 'I'll take two hundred in cash' and acts in a violent way 'Rachel slaps Francis', portraying the growing power of women.
On the other hand, Bean could have done this to project the message that women cannot hold any power without the help of a man. Although she
has decided to solve her problem herself, she has had to dress up as a man to do so, thus showing that women's roles are often tokenistic. The
motive behind her plan was also for a man illustrating the length a women will go for a man. Had Rachel not dressed up as a man maybe she would
not have gotten so far, her success in doing so

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Survival
American Novelist, Cormac McCarthy, won the Pulitzer Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction for his gripping novel, The Road
(2006). The novel follows a man and his son who are struggling to survive the burned America and the hardships that come with it. They face harsh
weather, starvation, dehydration, nature and even other people; however, they 'carry the fire' which brings them hope and reminds them not to follow
evil. Throughout the novel, McCarthy conveys the different types of surviving in the new apocalyptic world.
One type of survival that is portrayed in the burnt America is being the 'good guys' who carry the fire. The novel's main characters, the man and the boy

The bad guy role is the second way of surviving the new world. There are many groups of people the man and the boy meet on the road, all of them
but three are bad. The bad guys rape, kill and eat other humans, and everything they have, they got from stealing. The bad guys are made of two
kinds of people; the people who were always rotten inside and the people left with no choice. The new world gave the rotten people an opportunity
to rise and blossom without being punishment by the law, for it does not exist anymore. The people who had no choice were good guys who
couldn't be good anymore, because if they remained good, they would die. A horrific example of a group of bad guys, are the third people the man
and the boy run into. The man woke up one morning just in time to see the army of people coming towards them. He grabs the boy and their supplies
and drags them into the woods to hide. The man gives a detailed description of army and what they own.
"An army in tennis shoes. Carrying three–foot lengths of pipe with leather wrappings [...] Bearded, their breath smoking through their masks [...]
Behind them wagons drawn, by slaves in harness and piled with goods of war and after that the women, perhaps a dozen in number, some of them
pregnant, and lastly a supplementary consort of catamites illclothed against the cold and fitted in dog collars and yoked each to each." (McCarthy,

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse's One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One–Dimensional Man in the 1960's during at the height of the Cold War. The book One
Dimensional Man was both influential and highly critical of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation of
people and nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of social control. One Dimensional Man offers an analysis of
the new state of consumerism during the 1960's through a critical lens. This essay will focus on One Dimensional Man as I explore his view that
technological development, alienated labour and consumerism have distorted affluent societies in creating false needs as well as perpetuating
unfairness through various... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately
decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results
in one–dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in
a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming
blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced industrial society to reason between 'two dimensions'
(Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological
progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. Why do
false needs exist? they are a means of making money. Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls
this "deceptive liberty" (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). The façade of liberty to choose what to do and buy. It is deceptive because people are greatly
influenced by this new consumer culture and may not even realize it. Therefore, it is

Leadership Is Not A One Man Authority But Rather A Team...
Introduction According to Susan Komives, Nance, and Timothy (2013) in Exploring Leadership: For college students who want to make a difference,
leadership refers to the relational and ethical processes through which people achieve positive changes as a combined effort. Susan stresses on the idea
that leadership is not a one–man authority but rather a team effort. Therefore, a good leader is one that creates good relationships at the workplace to
facilitate teamwork. Susan, Nance, and Timothy (2013) define an efficient leader by the ability to pursue team goals as well as career objectives.
Using his leadership expertise and skills, the leader can maintain a highly productive team while ensuring a good relationship with them and among ...

However, I have since learned that leadership is not only in the high places but rather throughout the system. I now know for leadership to be
successful, it has to be integrated with the rest of the administrative and operational systems. Leadership is a collective issue that encompasses much
more than just the act of a leader practicing authority over subordinates (Komives, Lucas, & McMahon, 2013). Ethics are another important aspect
of leadership. The course has presented the link between ethics and efficient leadership. Leaders double up as the role models for the rest of the
team and, because of that, they must display high levels of ethical and moral principles. Related to this, a leader is obligated to adhere to the social
responsibility principles of the form. Hence, the leader represents the image of the company before the immediate and universal society. Initially, I
thought of leaders as the free minds of the organization who had the liberty to do whatever they wanted. However, the course has presented the
knowledge that even leaders are limited by their responsibilities to act ethically and responsibly. Hence, a leader should adhere to rules and regulations
first before requiring the subordinates to follow suit.
What is your definition of leadership now? Based on my experiences throughout the course, my definition of leadership has drastically changed to

The Odyssey : An Epic Tale Of One Man 's Expedition For...
The Odyssey, is known as an epic tale of one man's expedition for nostos. In the beginning of Homer's Odyssey, it is evident Telemakhos has not yet
matured to manhood despite his age; throughout the first four books, known as the telemachy, he goes through a journey in which he develops and
ultimately helps with Odysseus' nostos. Athena has an important role in Telemakhos' growth to manhood. It is Athena who encourages Telemakhos to
go on a quest to find his father. Within this quest Telemakhos matures into adulthood. Telemakhos also learns a lot about himself that helps him with
his maturation. Telemakhos is known as the prince of Itakha, he is always being catered to. It is within this journey that Telemakhos learns how to
take care of himself. He develops some important characteristics that help prove his parentage ties with Odysseus. (should I add quote where he
doubts him being Odysseus son?) Athena the goddess of wisdom and military victory plays a major role in Telemakhos' growth to a man. Before
meeting with Athena, Telemakhos is detached from everyone and everything. "... was sitting there unhappy among the suitors a boy, daydreaming."
(Book I, lines 144–145) Telemakhos allows the suitors to do anything they please and does not say his distress. Then Athena comes to Odysseus' home
disguised as MentГЄs, the son of AnkhГalos, and urges Telemakhos to stand up to the suitors that have invaded his home. He is told how to get the
suitors to go to their own homes: "... If I

blockade finally ended with Unions/ North's victory at the second battle of Fort Fisher in January 1865. To end the war north went burning homes,

One Man 's Cry Out
One Man's Cry Out Members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., participated in a
campaign against racial segregation and economic injustices in Birmingham, Alabama. On April 12, 1963, King and nearly 50 other protestors and
civil rights leaders were arrested on a Good Friday for an ordinance violation. The movement was one of nonviolence: however, it was the intent to
use confrontational tactics to give awareness of the Blacks' opposition of the laws that they felt were unjust. It was the intent of King to provoke mass
arrests and create a situation of negotiation. Shortly after King's arrest, a friend smuggled in a copy of a Birmingham newspaper, which included an
open letter written by eight local Christian and Jewish religious leaders, which criticized both the demonstrations and King himself. This sparked King
to write this noted letter. Thrown into solitary, King was initially denied access to his lawyers or allowed to contact his wife. President Kennedy had to
get involved. Without notes or research materials, King was inspired to create a letter that would touch the hearts and souls of man as well as provoke
direct action. After being jailed, SCLC strategist, James Bevel, changed the campaign to include children and young adults. This campaign got national
attention when the Birmingham Police Department led by Eugene "Bull" Conner used high–pressure water jets and police dogs against protestors and

Communist Leader Joseph Stalin : The Death Of One Man
Communist leader Joseph Stalin once promulgated "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic." Attesting to the
manner in which war assimilates the mind into accepting death, Stalin's words came to fruition in the minds of leaders during the American Civil
War, a four year strife over sectionalism. While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Union was ultimately able to defeat the Confederates States
of America in 1865 after the Confederates surrendered. Nonetheless, such defeat could have been avoided in the case that the South held true to
their values and exhibited the resilience which many believed characterized the South. All in all, the Civil War could have become a victory for
the Confederates States of America, in retrospect, on the basis that they would have obeyed the principle delineated by noted war General Sun Tzu
which reads "If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental,
seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them.
If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected." The Civil
War, while debated by many historians, resulted in a Union victory and a Confederate resignation. Prior to the war, the Confederacy was seen to have
many advantages, from their

The Century Of The Self

  • 1. The Century Of The Self "The century of the self" tells the disputed story of the growth of the mass–consumer society in the United States. "Happiness Machine" shows about how policy and business learned to create and dominate mass democracy society. Signund Freud is the founder of psychoanalysis that his ideas about unconscious mind. And there said that used by unconscious mind in power and post–war American to try and control the masses. The idea of Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays were develop techniques and mass culture to manage and control the minds of the American people. Bernays was the first person to take Freud's ideas about human beings and used them to manipulate the masses and influenced on the 20th century. Edward Bernay shows American corporations how they could make people want things they did not need through systematically linking mass–produced goods their unconscious desires. Therefore, society became a new world about how to control the masses and satisfying people in a selfish desires. After I watch this documentary, I will directly link to the Frankfurt school theory. • 2. How Could One Man Affect Millions? Over the past few weeks we have studied and exhausted the topic of the Holocaust, the knowledge I had prior to the studying of the holocaust is incomparable to what I now know. The Holocaust was an event in history marking it as one of the most tragic and devastating moments for humanity, certainly most for jewish peoples, gypsies, homosexuals and disabled people. In Hitlers attempt to create a perfect race, he annihilated, tortured, and stripped the people he thought as "impure" of all dignity they had as humans. More disturbing, is the question of how one person such as Hitler was able to alter the lives of millions so devastatingly, in convincing an entire population that Jewish peoples were damned and did not deserve to live. How are we as humans, hardwired for the desire to connect and share compassion capable of attempting to destroy an entire race of people? Events such as the Holocaust, and the Holocaust itself needs to be studied and understood, so we can learn from it and work to prevent anything like it from happening, and although genocides such as the one that occurred in Rwanda still occur, they are nothing as monstrous as that which occurred during the times of the Holocaust. Ignorant and oppressive acts will always be a part of society, it is human nature to place blame on others, such as what occurred after the depression in Germany, when Jewish peoples were scapegoated and blamed for the great depression. Due to what we have learned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Metaphor In The Maze The Maze According to Ferdinand de Saussure's the study of semiotics I found in this movie and its novel for sure many signs signifiers that signifies a lot of things. Meaning many images shows a lot of concepts. Starting with the Maze. The purpose behind the maze was that making you confused, lost and disoriented. The maze was serving as a metaphor, in which it represents what is similar to a teenager life, (PS. All the Gladers were teenagers) and in this case to a teenager in the Glade. First, the maze is playing the symbol of life. In this maze there are many sections. The one who is running in the maze (Minho) when he sees an opening, he runs quickly into it seeking the exit. During his running and searching for that exit, he hits a dead end, then he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING. If you look closely to this picture, you will notice that it is the same life as a teenager's. First, he thinks that he figured things out and he's finally on the right path to be surprised that suddenly everything has changed. Sometimes the reason that you can't find answers to life is because there is no answers. The same as Newt said in "The Maze Runner" Novel: "Out there's the Maze [...], everything we do–our whole life, Greenie–revolves around the Maze. Every lovin' second of every lovin' day we spend in honor of the Maze, tryin' to solve somethin' that's not shown us it has a bloody solution, ya know?" (6.22) For the Gladers too; the aim of the maze is to make them lost and dead. Haunted and chased by the Grievers. Take a wrong turn in the maze and you are facing death. Whereby, it is important to know all the details in the maze in order to escape it. The path of life is almost the same; confusing, disorienting trail in which one decision is to define your destiny. Either live or die, be happy or be hopeless. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The On The Nature Of Man Is The Desire Of Rule Over... Jeremy Calimbas Posc 163 9 June 2015 Final Assignment A paramount aspect to the nature of man is the desire to rule over oneself and ones territory. This theology is not held within the constraints of the individual but can be observed as the paradigm of many states in which the idea of secession is highly contested. Throughout history many countries have sought to secure this vital interest through the creation of secessionist movements. However not all of these movements are successful in quantifying the goal of autonomy. This paper aims to examine secessionism; the causes of secessionist sentiment as well as factors that result in success or failure via the analysis of secessionist movements in Indonesia and China supplemented by references to Scotland and Catalonia. The dynamic of secessionist movements can be attributed to four general elements: the identity of the seceding community, the territorial claims of the seceding community, the leadership of the seceding community and the discontent of the seceding community. For any given secessionist movement these elements are often common attributes however the degree in which they are relevant is specific to the territory in question. Let us begin our analysis with issues of identity. It is obvious that if the entirety of a population within a country or territory identifies themselves as sharing a common ancestry, culture or heritage than the idea of secession wouldn't exist. Therefore the opposite holds true; that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Christian background and beliefs, however, have been based on faith rather than rational hypotheses. Is what I believe all a figment of my imagination? That is what Christians believe and uphold to the truth despite the lack of plausible evidence to support the hypothesis. • 7. One Blind Man To Another In Raymond Carver's Cathedral Cathedral: One Blind Man to Another In Raymond Carver's Cathedral, the reader is given a glimpse into the precarious relationship between the narrator and his wife. The narrator shares his heavily critical point of view on the forthcoming visit from his wife's old friend whom he calls "the blind man" later known as "Robert". Specifically, Carver uses first person narrative to put the reader in the mindset of the speaker who although keeps information hidden about himself, eventually exposes a substantial amount of character through his commentary. Slowly but surely he divulges his tremendously insecure, stubborn, and immature nature when it comes to matters of exhibiting empathy for others and most importantly obtaining the emotional depth for it. The narrator seems to have formed a bias against Robert based off of his knowledge of him through his wife's stories of her time with him. Beginning the passage, he expresses his disdain for "the blind man" visiting him and his wife saying he isn't "enthusiastic about his visit" and "his being blind bothered [him]" to the point of outright stating that it was not "something [he] looked forward to" (p.209). Attesting to the manner in which war assimilates the mind into accepting death, Stalin's words came to fruition in the minds of leaders during the American Civil War, a four year strife over sectionalism. While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Union was ultimately able to defeat the Confederates States of America in 1865 after the Confederates surrendered. Thus, there is much to ask in regard to the question, "How did the South lose, when one takes into considerations their numerous advantages?" Foremost the North, also referred to as the Union, had their advantages in facets such as leadership, industry, etc. Therefore, they were secure logistically, and strategically. Hence, when likened to Sun Tzu's proclamations, the Confederate's enemy, the Union, were "[...] secure at all points." While the South was superior in some regards, neither side was substantially dominant in comparison to the opposition. Initially, the South had decided on a defensive strategy which seemed conducive to success when taking into consideration the state of firearm technology at the time. In John Cook's address titled "Could the South have Won the War," he states "STRATEGY 1– Davis 1 or "Cordon Defence" Strategy: This strategy was used for much of the first year of the War and involved positioning troops around the whole of the periphery of the Confederacy in an attempt to defend all of its territory, [...] In the wake of these Federal incursions, the South abandoned their efforts to hold all of their territory." • 9. My Final Artwork Project Was Produced And Inspired By The... My final artwork project was produced and inspired by the reading of Herbert Marcuse. It is a glass puppet. This puppet came to life due to the reflection of his book, titled One Dimensional Man. Marcuse was a German–American philosopher, sociologist, and political theorist. He was associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory; a social and political philosophical movement of thought. Also during the 60's and 70's, he became a major theorist of the New Left. This was a broad political movement against capitalism and communist society. His goals were to implement a broad range of reforms on issues such as civil rights, gay rights, abortion, gender roles, and drugs. Marcuse critiqued capitalist social structures, as well as the impositions made on human freedom expression and joy. He expressed how we may see ourselves as free, but we are really living in a false democracy and false sense of freedom which subtly masks an authoritarian rule. In his written works, he criticized capitalism, modern technology, historical materialism and entertainment culture, arguing that they represent new forms of social control. These modern cultures strictly divide, brainwash and influence the way we should live. They really do not represent the real world. Specifically the entertainment business. Entertainers live their millionaire life behind a wall and totally forget and ignore the common folks. They are constantly selling us things we cannot afford, how thin we should ... You are doing it so you can have a nice home and a car and food on the table, sure. But hopefully on some level you are doing it for yourself. A part of all you earn is yours to keep. This is one of the parables in The Richest Man in Babylon, a series of financial pamphlets that were compiled as a book in the early 20th century. Higher earners can be attractive targets for cost–cutting initiatives, and it can be difficult to replace a high salary quickly on the job market. The typical American saves 5.4 percent of income. And that's for everything! Unfortunately for many families the reality at home is even worse, since these numbers factor in those who save a lot and those who don't save anything. The average household in the 32–37 age range has set aside only $500 for retirement. That is not enough. The good news is that most any able–bodied person in the United States who starts reasonably young and focuses can achieve a measure of financial security. Some believe that becoming a man is just referring to a coming of age, and it somewhat is, however there is more. In the short story "The Man Who Was Almost a Man" by Richard white, Dave, the main character is a young boy trying to become a man and is searching for the key. However, there are certain ways to do things in society, and there are ways to not, and both of these ways have their benefits and consequences. In this short story Dave sees the gun as a symbol of manhood, and it will set him free of his childhood. Throughout the short story the reader can tell that Dave is eager to leave his childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dave still shows thoughts pertaining to the attainable manliness of having a gun by thoughts of shooting at Mr. Hawkins's house. It seems as if Dave's thoughts are blurred and all he sees is the key to becoming a man is having a gun and using it so he is doing this as much as he can along with his crave for power, even though it is just causing others to have even less respect for a reckless irresponsible child with a gun. However, Dave's wishes were still granted when he is forced to start maturing into being a man more rapidly than others and having to take responsibility for his actions. Every choice has its benefits and its consequences, unluckily, with Dave's choices the consequences greatly outweighed the benefits that were being received. Dave had the wrong idea and believed that a gun could symbolize becoming a man whenever all it actually did is rush him into something that he is not ready for, and cause him to do wrong in the eyes of his family and the society. Back to the question, "What does it mean for someone to become a man?" One could say that Dave eventually learned his lesson by the end of the short story that you cannot push respect upon yourself by others with force. In Charles Dickens' short story, "No. 1 Branch Line: The Signal–Man," one of the biggest questions posed is "Why is the Signal–Man the only person who can see the ghost and what does it want?". One answer to that question is that the ghost is both a harbinger of death and ferryman of the dead, and that the signal–man is close to dying, which is why he sees the ghost. Another answer to the question of what the ghost in "No. 1 Branch Line: The Signal–Man" wants is that it is trying to warn the signal–man of impeding danger. The first time that the signal–man saw the specter, the "memorable accident on [the] line happened, and within ten hours the dead and wounded were brought along through the tunnel over the spot where the figure had stood." (Dickens 8). The second time the signal–man saw the ghost, which was "six or seven months [after]," the ghost "'leaned against the shaft of the light, with both hands before the face.'" (Dickens 8–9). That same day, a "'beautiful young lady had died instantaneously in one of the compartments [of the train]'" (Dickens 9). If the ghost was trying to warn the signal–man of these tragic events that occurred, it would have given him a longer notice prior to the events. To begin with, in chapter four, McCloud talks about how some artists use lines, multiple images or streaking to show motion. In the manga One Punch Man the artist Yusuke Murata shows Saitama's movement for the "serious hop" attack with streaking and multiple images, to show the different ways Saitama is approaching his opponent. Also, you can imply Molly Bang's theory on diagonal shapes that show tension or motion in which Yusuke uses both (Look at picture #1). You can see how under Saitama there are also pointy edges that go diagonally so one can feel threatened as Molly Bang said. Also you can clearly see the many silhouettes of Saitama to show his special attack much clearer. Second, Molly Bang and Scott McCloud both touch base with color. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one–dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced industrial society to reason between 'two dimensions' (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. One thing, is that I am in the process of building a support system of people who love me and care about me. I am the luckiest person in the world to have the absolutely most amazing and caring and loving friends you could ever ask for. If it wasn't for them, I would not be alive today. I owe my life to them for sticking by me through this, and convincing me that it is worth it to live, it is worth it to keep fighting every single minute. Every hour. Every day. Even if I cannot believe it, I'm told life is pretty good sometimes. That life gets better. That life somewhere, somehow, has joy and happiness and love. I don't have the pleasure of experiencing it right now, but I hope one day I can and that you can also. As Tyler Joseph would say, "Don't give up. Push through the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He lay flat in the water and extended his feet and arms parallel to the bottom of the lake: unable to maintain his form and he repeatedly failed. After a time, he stuck his head up to witness the whole gang laughing. "Come on Japes you can do it it we all did." "What is so funny" Japes demanded. "You mean the ball will fly or roll upthe road without going off and hitting a tree?" Asked Tommy the cook. "Yes." replied Simon. "I will bet Japes a day off for everyone that I can hit it further up the road than he can before it goes into the woods." "Come on Japes what do you think." The road was three or four hundred yards long, it was not straight, surrounded by trees, and it would require hitting a low shot down a virtual tunnel. Simon thought he would put the entire gang in their place. He would beat them down to prove he was in charge "Okay" said Japes. "You go first." Simon hit a low bullet right off the porch. It nicked a tree on the left, but traveled to the bend in the road some one hundred and ninety yards before falling off. "Beat that " said Simon, "Do not let everybody down." Simon did not know that he grew up near the camp, and that he had played golf since he was ten. Simon would have actually needed to talk with the staff to find out about their lives. Japes dropped a ball on the porch and in one smooth motion ripped a low fade around the bend in the road. The ball never left the drive and everybody took Sunday off. "You never told me you played golf," stated Simon. "You never asked." replied Japes. Summer was coming to an end and so was the camp. • 35. One Man 's Cry Out One Man's Cry Out Members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., participated in a campaign against racial segregation and economic injustices in Birmingham, Alabama. On April 12, 1963, King and nearly 50 other protestors and civil rights leaders were arrested on a Good Friday for an ordinance violation. The movement was one of nonviolence: however, it was the intent to use confrontational tactics to give awareness of the Blacks' opposition of the laws that they felt were unjust. It was the intent of King to provoke mass arrests and create a situation of negotiation. Shortly after King's arrest, a friend smuggled in a copy of a Birmingham newspaper, which included an open letter written by eight local Christian and Jewish religious leaders, which criticized both the demonstrations and King himself. This sparked King to write this noted letter. Thrown into solitary, King was initially denied access to his lawyers or allowed to contact his wife. President Kennedy had to get involved. Without notes or research materials, King was inspired to create a letter that would touch the hearts and souls of man as well as provoke direct action. After being jailed, SCLC strategist, James Bevel, changed the campaign to include children and young adults. This campaign got national attention when the Birmingham Police Department led by Eugene "Bull" Conner used high–pressure water jets and police dogs against protestors and the ... • 39. Communist Leader Joseph Stalin : The Death Of One Man Communist leader Joseph Stalin once promulgated "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic." Attesting to the manner in which war assimilates the mind into accepting death, Stalin's words came to fruition in the minds of leaders during the American Civil War, a four year strife over sectionalism. While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Union was ultimately able to defeat the Confederates States of America in 1865 after the Confederates surrendered. Nonetheless, such defeat could have been avoided in the case that the South held true to their values and exhibited the resilience which many believed characterized the South. All in all, the Civil War could have become a victory for the Confederates States of America, in retrospect, on the basis that they would have obeyed the principle delineated by noted war General Sun Tzu which reads "If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected." The Civil War, while debated by many historians, resulted in a Union victory and a Confederate resignation. Prior to the war, the Confederacy was seen to have many advantages, from their ...
