Personal identity is essential in the human experience. Identity is complex and can be broken down into two main groups: introspective identity, and
bodily identity. Introspective identity is based off of the groups, mentalities, or beliefs that you align yourself with, and bodily identity is based off of
the physical side of yourself. Whether physical or introspective, your identity impacts every action you take. Whether choices ranging from what
colors you prefer to which college you want to attend are primarily based off of your introspective identity, which is a combination of both memory
and consciousness, physical identity impacts how others perceive you. Consciousness is mainly the awareness of bodily identity as well as continuous
introspective identify, while memory is awareness of introspective identity. These two different facets of identity are imperative in the distinction
between bodily identity and introspective identity. In means of personal identity introspective identity (which is evident in memory), is essential, while
bodily identity (based partially in consciousness) has less credit. Plutarch brings up the question of bodily identity and numerical identity in Theseus.

Exploring Identity
Upon reflection of my own identity based on the reading I consider myself as a collectivistic and religious person. The main factor that I feel that
defines me is that I believe there is a–we in the phrase "we are a team." Another factor is that I am family oriented, I live with my parents and as a
family we make decisions. The fact that God, the Son and the Holy Spirit are united working in our lives is what colors my worldview. I interpret
others action, for example, an independent person as someone who was raised by strict parents or maybe was the only child. This helped the child
become independent at a young age. Another identity I interpret are men who's actions are masculine. They probably grew up with a masculine figure
of a parent or guardian.

Lately my mornings are spent getting up between 5:30am and 6am. I get myself ready, I never look fantastic just passable, and I go to work. Part
of my morning routine is getting my dog, Donovan, ready for the early part of his day as well. We go to the yard for his bathroom routine, we go
inside where I feed him his diet dog food and inject him with insulin, we go upstairs where I place a new diaper wrap around his mid–section (dogs

go, go, don't lose your aim; because if you lose it, you will lose your path." The phrase ties in with my identity because of my cultural background and
experiences at parties. Who am I? What is my cultural identity? The questions that have me trying my best not to have an existential crisis. I am a
Mexican American, my parents were born in Jalisco and I was born in California. As for my cultural identity, I am a NSHS student that has been
shaped by music, technology, and sports.
Almost everyone listens to music and people tend to have their own taste or style of music. My taste of music has changed throughout middle school
to highschool, however it is not too drastic. The style of music went from ultimate fangirl of boy bands such as One Direction or Five Seconds of
Summer, to listening to Frank Ocean and The Weeknd. Not only that, but I've also started to dig in with my ethnicity and started listening to spanish
music on my own time. My experiences at parties and being around my family with them blasting banda sparked my interest to listen to spanish music.
Listening to spanish music also helped with my spanish since unfortunately, I am taking french instead of spanish for my language course. These
changes have made me love and appreciate both spanish and english music, which is an important part of my life.
Technology had a big impact during my freshman year until now due to the fact that it seems like everyone has a phone these days. Through social
media I was able to communicate with new or old friends and family. I was very invested in technology, checking my social media and keeping
myself occupied with games. The internet taught me about what was going on in the world and what was trending. The best part was taking pictures
and videos and getting to keep memories with me. Unfortunately, I do not own a phone anymore, it broke along with my heart. My expectations was
for me to be devastated, but somehow I'm still alive and doing just fine. The downfall was losing all my memories, the photos, the videos, but I can

Personal Identity And Identity
Diversity, to me, is still a new concept. For the first 18 years of my life, I lived in a small and extremely religious city in Utah called Provo. My
parents first immigrated here in 1983 and have stayed here ever since to pursue financial opportunities. Growing up, I felt a lack of personal
uniqueness. I found myself constantly latching on the group identity of others to better fit in. In my hometown, a solid 80% of the residents were
religiously Mormon. Not only was I the only Chinese student within my entire neighborhood but I was also the only atheist as well. This
absolutely created an inherent barrier between myself and my community. I never had an issue of integrating myself within social groups but it
was subconsciously clear to me that my forced social identity would often trump my sense of uniqueness. It was not until I visited California for
the first time where I began to appreciate my diversity and social identity. I believe as people; we often find ourselves insecure to fully embrace
our unique quirks. However today, I make it priority to always embrace my uniqueness while improving myself based on my experiences of social
identity groups. It has been two years since I came to UCSD and I still regard it as one of the best decisions of my life. UCSD has made me feel at

The development of identity in adolescents was described by Erikson's stage of cognitive development, identity versus role confusion. This stage is
further broken down by James Marcia and his four stages of identity development. This stage is best described by the phrase, 'Who am I?'. The
development of identity in adolescents is impacted by peers, parenting, and other social factors such as media. Adolescents begin to develop their
identity by copying their peers. This is related to the foreclosure status of Marcia's stages, in which a teen will start to develop their identity by

Intercultural Identity
An individual's culture, upbringing, privileges, orientation etc. all affect how one views the world. In order to confront difficult issues, such as
social justice, one must realize how their positionality effects their epistemologies. Takacs (2002) states that "when we develop the skill of
understanding how we know what we know, we acquire a key to lifelong learning" (p. 28). Being able to discern why we view the world in a certain
way leads to truths about one's own identity, such as their privileges in society.
However, these identities are not always apparent. Tatum (2000) states that "it is our targeted identities that hold our attention, while the dominant
identities go unexamined" (p. 7). In order to develop a holistic sense of self, we must examine all parts of our being. As my interviewer remarked: "you
have to know who you are, and how you show up in pieces, and the impact that may give to others, because that definitely contributes" (A. Rubango,
personal communication, September 13, 2017). Every person has their own multitude of identities. My interviewer's own identity contains numerous
components as a female, an immigrant from the Congo, and having a middle–class SES. Through her many target and dominant identities, she has
acknowledged how these "pieces" have given her a unique viewpoint on the world, and how they have affected her view on issues, such as those
pertaining to social justice.

Throughout history one of the primary ways that people express their identity is through music. Many components of my identity are important to me,
however I have chosen three songs to represent my class background, my sexual orientation, and my nationality. These three facets of my identity are
perhaps the most important in defining my sense of self. I feel that the song "In Color" by Jamey Johnson best represents my class identity as someone
whose family comes from humble beginnings, yet has worked its way to prosperity. The song centers around the story of a grandson looking

I realized how there were a lot fewer brown students in this whole city than in my high school. This phenomenon of being culture shocked made me
realize that I just entered a school where I wasn 't just a student, but I was female Latina from a low socioeconomic background. College has made

The human identity is a complex thing and quite confusing. The search for purpose and self discovery is one that all people must face. Identity is who
a person is, what activities they enjoy, their favourite foods, favourite movies, sexual orientation, and gender identity. No person is absolutely sure of

criticized for not identifying with the sex they were assigned at birth. These issues of discrimination towards transgendered people had been
appropriately addressed in the story Smiley. The story is revolved around a young girl named Jill who lives with her family. However, Jill does
not feel as though she truly is a female and is abused and mocked because of this. Jill becomes attracted to another girl and is once again abused
and mocked because of this. One night, Jill's mother instructs her to disrobe and get into the tub. Jill is reluctant but is eventually stripped of her
clothes and is revealed to have made a penis out of a bird's nest that her father referred to as looking like "Old man nuts" (Hamilton 1). Jill then
reveals that she is no longer Jill, she says "I'm Jake" (3). Jake's inability to back down and reluctance to listen to what anybody tells her
demonstrates an important aspect of identity, identity is not determined by how a person is born but how they feel. Jake's journey to discover
himself is filled with hardships with nobody being accepting of him. Jake from the very start of the story that "[he wants to] be a boy" (1). His

his DNA test results, "They don't change the way I think of myself or the way I view the world" (Eubanks 63). Due to how Patrick was raised, he
had a different view than Eubanks. Patrick was impacted very little by this because of how he was raised, and his cultural influences around him. Had
he been raised differently, he might have thought otherwise or had a different view of his DNA test results. Since America has had exponential growth
in multiracial children, the concept is race has become more complicated. As Eubanks wrote, "Racism is easy when only two races exist...Multiple and
overlapping ethnicities (with none in the majority) make racism more difficult" (Eubanks 65). With this new–found generation and knowledge, it
creates a new culture
