1. My English 100 Class
Improvement English 100 has been one of the classes that I have learned the most out of. I felt
the challenge there was in writing, but with my professor Barbara Goncalves who taught the
class strictly was able to cover several things for a writer. The things that were very helpful in my
perspective was the use of the grammar book and practicing the exercises. My professor
Goncalves did a great job to teach the class, she was available at all time if any student was having
difficulties throughout the lesson. Meanwhile, by the end of the semester I was able to see
improvement in my content, organization, and grammar. In addition, my writing skills have not
been my best area of strength there has always been some type of struggle for me to...show more

My professor would make sure that every day in class we covered a new material over grammar
that many students committed. WIth the participation of students I was able to understand the
proper way of a sentence structure and relating to other students whom have the same struggles as
me. The grammar book has been my hero throughout english because I learn new methods of
writing and how to better my writing. I look at my paper work done and I see the progress I have
made with my writing due to grammar. At a point, I thought I knew how to write an essay but in
reality I did not because there were so many mistakes in my sentence structure with one

2. My Family Essay
No one can't meet a family like mine's. My family is well diversified. Every family member plays
an important role in all my family's lives. In my family, there are four people: my father, my
mother, my little brother and me. My father is one who brings money home and is also responsible
for organizing and planning family trips. My mother is the one who is in charge for making meals
and makes sure everyone eats at the appropriate times. My little brother is the pet of the family. He
actually doesn't have any responsibilities, for he's the pet. I am the rock of support in my family. I
always go beyond my parents' expectations. I also support my younger cousins and little brother, by
being a role model that they can look up to. Another...show more content...
Doing what my parents tell me to do is just one of many reasons why I am a rock of support for
my family. Not only do I support my parents, but I also support my younger cousins and brother.
As an eldest brother and cousin, I feel I must be a good example for the young ones. There are
numerous methods of showing my cousins and brother support. One main way is by providing
advice on making the right choices. For example my brother had a problem at school with one of
his classmates. As a mature and responsible older brother, I advised him to use the non–violent
approach. I told him to go discuss the problem and try to resolve it peacefully. My brother then
asked me why he shouldn't fight his classmate. I explained how violence is the answer to
anything. I advised him to first talk to his classmate in a professional manner. If then things get
out of hand, I told him to let the teacher know the situation. In the end, my brother didn't need to
get the teacher involved. In fact, their conflict was resolved by talking through with each other. I
also am very supportive of my little cousins. One way I help them out is by tutoring them once in
a while. They come over to my house and I assist them with their school work. Not only I help my
cousins with their homework, but I also support them recreationally. I play various sports and
activities with them. As their older cousin/brother, I feel I should be a good role model to follow. I
am also known for being there

3. Essay about My Communication Skills
My Communication Skills Improving my communication skills has been a work in progress
starting back in the early years of my life. I have always been my own worse critic. Usually beating
myself down through interpersonal communication. Now as an adult I have made great improvements
but still have trouble dealing with perception and self–image. Not being raised in an environment of
positive reinforcement and poor communication in the workplace I have made it a point to change
that trait in my own family and professional environment....show more content...
My goals for improving self–image are first to make the steps to be the person I want to be.
Whether it is through exercise or education myself to build up my intellectual strength. Making a
self–image inventory, noting those things that I like about myself. The make a list of the negative
traits that I want to improve. Changing my focus from negative to positive should help me avoid
being depressed. The best thing I can do I recognize my shortcomings but don't dwell on them. A
key characteristic in dire need of improvement would be my perception. I was raised in an
environment where stereotypes and first impressions were the norm. Expecting certain actions
from people based on what I've heard or seen in the past, not being empathetic in my views. In
circumstances like UOP, if a student does not interact or participate at the same level as myself,
they would be interpreted as being a procrastinator. I certainly have issues with trust, usually taking
a cautious approach to the team atmosphere in fear of not meeting the courses expectations. In the
last few classes I have posted questions and asked for feedback on peoples expectations in hopes that

4. My Essay In My Writing Class
Ever since I got into composition one, I was always that person that didn't know how to set a
proper process of the essay. I have tried going different varieties method how to set multiple essay
in high school but my teacher never bothered to help me. There was sometimes that I did not like
writing essay because I knew I was going to fail anyways. I struggled when it comes to writing
essay but that didn't stop me from succeeding. I was a little bit concerned so I had no choice but
to give it all in for my best. I wanted to show my professor that I could be able to write one of the
best essay I ever wrote in class. It was an eight week courses and it was tough for me to keep up
with the essays. I believe that I have learned a lot in this course especially doing the MLA format.
To begin with, I have advanced my writing skills and process by using one of Roth's method that
she showed us. The method was bubble map and it helped me so much by brainstorming and
tree–branching multiple ideas. I can't lie, but it improved my writing process so much since it gave

I believed it helped me so much through this course with all these feedbacks and comments that
students and Professor Roth provided me. Likewise, my opinion, I prefer to work with team
/group rather than working by myself because that's where the point I need help with my essay.
Being peer reviewed by others assisted me why I have improper grammar and poor writing
structure. I chose to find a method to improve it because if it wasn't for my peer groups, then I
would never know the mistake I have been doing along. Moreover, doing collaborative group
work does not just help you but improving your writing skills and understanding the fact why it is
wrong. Overall, if I kept on doing peer reviewing, I would most likely to be a better writer unlikely

5. Challenges That I Face As Writer Essay
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an
essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be
successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully
developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on
incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back
to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy
sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these
challenges with each piece they write. Writers often face certain...show more content...
I am looking to improve on this challenge as a writer by focusing on explaining my quotes and
explanations in a more supportive way that relates back to the thesis. Writing can be improved
upon endlessly by minimizing your challenges as a writer. In writing an essay I also struggle with
incorporating clear topic sentences and connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis
statement. This struggle is based on last years' experience with writing essays. This struggle can
be improved upon by concentrating on what exactly my thesis is stating and building my
sentences to relate and explain the thesis further. Improving on this will allow my writing ability
to increase and help me become a more successful writer. When composing an essay, or journal
entry, or just plain writing, I struggle as a writer with avoiding awkward or wordy phases in my
written work. This struggle is yet again based on last year's experience and feedback from my
English class. Improvement with this struggle can be made by the following strategies: reading over
my paper more carefully, avoiding the use of words that sound intelligent but don't flow with the
paper, and editing my paper with peers. Recognizing this struggle and following these strategies
would improve my writing. Writers develop strategies that help them to overcome or improve upon
their struggles and challenges in their writing. As a

6. Asking For Help Essay
Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of
my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it
comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I
need help." In writing this paper I hope to recognize the roots of my problem and adopt a plan to
aid me in overcoming this negative behavior. After I took the self–assessment and received a low
score in the area of interdependence, I began considering options for overcoming my hesitation so
that I may become a successful student. The first strategy is to learn that I cannot do everything by
myself. Typically, I never ask for...show more content...
We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need
someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the
favor returned for English. Working together and helping others is important in almost every area
of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I
realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would
employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve
their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not
want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In
order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish
that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student
does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are
only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is
more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead
to total understanding. This will enable them to perform better on my assignments and to keep
moving forward towards that college degree. College can be an

7. Essay About Myself
There are three very important aspects that play a major rule in my life. They can be categorized as
intellectual, social, and spiritual. My intellectual self is interesting because I am mainly
right–brained which means that I tend to use my creativity more than my mathematical skills, also
making me a visual learner. My social self consists of friends, family, and my surroundings. I spend
most of my time at home with my family. Whenever I am with my friends, I observe their behaviors
and listen to their opinions. I am more of an independent type of person. Being with different people
has influenced me into appreciating different cultures and beliefs. I have learned things that have
now been incorporated into my own set of beliefs and...show more content...
I find that I can only recall long–term memories if they are important to me, or if they are dramatic
experiences. A few examples of my childhood memories are my mother reading to me, my
grandfather playing his guitar, and my dad relentlessly teaching me how to ice skate, no matter
how many times I fell. The people who affect my social life the most are my family and friends. I
have an extremely close family that has played a major role in my life. They are whom I spend
most of my spare time with. My family usually gathers every weekend for dinner. I am also very
open to different religions, cultures, and practices because I know many people with different
backgrounds and beliefs. Since I've been influenced by various people, I've learned at a very
young age to never judge people by how they look, dress, feel, or act. I am very fortunate to have
learned these lessons, because many people still do not understand the importance of accepting
differences. In a group, I prefer to listen to what others have to say, and then contribute to the
discussion. I try to listen so I am able to compare them to my own thoughts. I enjoy working in a
group, because it gives everyone an opportunity to incorporate their own ideas. My social self is
most greatly influenced by my family and friends. I believe that my spiritual self is the most
important out of the three. Although I have a certain religion that I belong to and practice, I believe

8. Our Needs And Wants Essay
Our Needs and Wants: effects on our inner peace
Life, in general, has not changed over the years; it is only the surroundings and circumstances that
have changed. The way we choose to react to those changes, determines the direct effect on the
quality of our life. We need to focus on the need of distinguishing, between the ever–increasing
responsibilities on our shoulders and other insignificant matters that consume our precious time.
Our needs and wants are two distinct entities. Weneed to separate our needs from our wants in order
to achieve satisfaction. It is definitely not a simple matter. The dilemma is that we allwant
everything, but we don't need everything we want. When we can quiet the unnecessary, we can give

We need to find an opportunity to coach somewhere, in fact anywhere. Find a young person, a
young team, jump in and impart training, like we would if we were coaching at the highest level.
Such initiative and experience, will give us sufficient boost to reach our goals, and actually become
a sport coach one day.
We should not be afraid to take small steps. There's something powerful about momentum...no matter
how little. Many times, the impossible is simply the untried. When we are immobilised with fear,
when each task ahead appears to be a huge one, when we are unable to lift ourselves to face it – at
those moments we can break the dilemma by using two simple words: "Do something!" By taking
some small steps, the required momentum will begin to come into our life.
Most people don't succeed because they are too afraid to even try. As incredible as it sounds, they
decide in advance that they are going to fail. Many times, our final goal seems so distant &
unachievable that we don't even make an effort. But, once we have made our decision and actually
start, it's like we are halfway

9. My Day With My Family
I believe that I feel the most comfortable when I am home with my family. Any activity we do
together is amazing. Whether it's watching a movie together, having dinner, or having something
to talk about. There is always a time of the day where we just have a good laugh about something
that happened throughout the day. I know my family will always be there for me and I will do
the same for them. I believe that I am blessed to have such a loving, caring, and compassionate
family. I believe when times are tough, my family is my true comfort. Even if it's the smallest
thing like a headache or stomachache I feel better with just my mom doing anything for me to
feel better. I don't need medicine to heal the smallest pains; all I need is my family's love. I've
never looked at another family and thought, "wow they have an amazing relationship, i am
jealous". Sometimes I do the opposite because I never had thought wrong about my family even
when we're aggravated sometimes. I remember during the summer we would have a cookout
every single Saturday and Sunday. We would all get together and have my dads "special asadas".
Which are a special steak well done with allot of lime and spices. We would sit there for hours eating
and having a beer. We would call close friends that we even call family. I believe there is no perfect
life or perfect family. I believe my family will overcome anything that causes pain or misery. I
believe that we are in full control of our own wellness, both

10. My Love For English
For a long time, one thing had always been the same: my love for English. It had always been a
flame burning within me, something that could never be completely distinguished. I've had my
share of both good and bad English teachers, from both I have gained important
To my seventh grade English teacher:
Thank you. At the time, I despised all the activities you made my class do. I despised the months
we spent going over commas. I despised the books we were forced to read. Little did I know how
many of these thing would be used in the future.
I am now an expert in the usage of the comma. Those months spent doing comma practices at the
start of the class finally paid off. I appreciate Shakespeare in a way I would never have if it wasn't
for you. I remember struggling through A Midsummer Night's Dream as the thought of giving up
swam through my head. At the end of the book, you had us divide into groups and act out scenes.
Surprisingly, I had a great deal of fun. Everyone went full out with costumes and props. I also
understand symbolism and have learned how to persevere through particularly mundane books.
We read Animal Farm in that class. The fact that a story about farm animals could stand for real
life effects blew my mind. Additionally, for every paper of mine you 'lost' and that I would later find
right where it was supposed to be, I learned to be more assertive.
My love for English stopped twirling in the breeze and, for the first time, began to flicker.

Personal Language History
Early years
I was born and raised in Mandalay. My parents came from Mandalay, Myanmar. They both are
Chinese so that I could speak two languages, Burmese and Chinese. I wasn't really good at
speaking Burmese when I was young. It took years to get me used to with it but then I moved to
Yangon which is the Capital City of Myanmar. My accent was getting better since I got Yangon. All
my neighbors were Burmese which helped me a lot to improve both my speaking and listening skills.
Educational impact
When I went to primary school, I had to learn Burmese. At the same time, I had to attend Chinese
School when the Burmese class is done. I had to take Burmese for official language. I had to take
