3. Inception Teaser Analysis This is the official teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's 2010 thriller Inception staring Leonardo Dicaprio. This teaser trailer contains a very effective use of sound. There is no diegetic sound which makes the trailer somewhat uneasy to listen to. There is a sustained high pitch eerie noise throughout, this crescendos which adds to the suspense. This combined with big drum hits make the teaser much more interesting because each time they happen you jump a little. There is no sense of plot in the teaser which helps create enigma and suspense. There are only very short clips from the film that makes you ask yourself questions. For Example at 0:24 the long shot of the woman being dragged away makes you wonder what is happening to her. The titles in this trailer don't give anything away. The only clue as to what type of film this could be is at 0:11 where the metallic writing on a deep black background reads "From Christopher Nolan" who is famous for directing the last Batman film "The Dark Knight" so this could suggest a similar theme in "Inception." I would say the target audience would be mainly males aged 18 - 35.
5. Shutter Island Teaser Analysis This is the official Teaser Trailer for the 2010 thriller Shutter Island staring Leonardo DiCaprio. The fast pace of this trailer really entices the viewer and makes them want to watch it. As the trailer progresses the frames become shorter and shorter, therefore the pace of the trailer becomes gradually faster. This builds up tension, which is the main aim of the teaser. Similar to the Inception teaser, the titles help to suggest a genre. The first title at 0.08, as in the Inception Teaser reads from (directors name) on a deep black background with metallic writing. In this case the director is Martin Scorsese. The medium shot at 0:09 of a strange looking elderly lady with her finger to her lips suggests many things for me. Firstly it connotes pain and suffering, because she looks weary and drained. Her body language (finger to the lip) connotes "shh" which suggests to me that something untoward is happening, that she or someone(thing) doesn't want you to know about. This is reinforced by the voice over "Whatever the hell's going on here, It's bad. I would say Shutter Island's target audience is males 16 - 24
