2. The future of communication
• Going back 10 years and looking at technology
gives a great example to us of how much has
changed. Now look forward 10 years and with
even more advanced technology the sky is the
limit. The future of communication and
technology will change beyond our wildest
beliefs.
4. Media System Dependency
Theory
Developed by Sandra Ball-
Rokeach and Melvin
Defleur in 1976.
Media and the people
using it can be studied in
large social systems.
The more that people
depend on media to meet
their needs the more
important the media
becomes to the people an
the more the media effects
5. How it pertains to everyday life
• According to this theory, there is an internal link between media,
audience and large social system. The audience learning from the real life
is limited, so they can use media to get more information to fulfil their
needs. An extensive use of media generates dependent relation in
audience and also Media can able to creating dependence relationship
with target audiences to achieve their goals by using their media power.
• What this allows is the link between our drive to feel safe and our drive to
use media and combines the two. As media usage increases people do
more on it and need to be protected while fulfilling their needs.
• As a society we are dependent on media but also the protection provided
by media providers.
• Eye scanners will help to secure each persons media experience.
7. Uses and Gratifications Theory
What is it?
• It is the theory which
explains of how people use
media for their need and
gratification.
• In other words we can say
this theory states what
people do with media
rather than what media
does to people
How does it pertain?
• People seek out media that
assists their lives and makes
them better.
• Used as a means of
escapism allowing a release
from everyday tensions. In a
way gratifications theory
allows a persons mind to go
on small vacations using
media/technology.
8. Computerized Contacts
• Instead of having handheld devices from
phones to tablets the newest thing will be
computerized contacts.
• These contacts allow a person to wear an ear
piece and have every device projected in front
of their eyes
• The ear piece allows for total voice control
9. The face of work changes
The future is less drive time and
more personal time
The days of dressing up and
going to the office are over
10. Changes in work
• Working daily is one of the most fundamental
parts of our daily lives. How we work changes
with technology. Currently we have internet
and computers which allows many technical
jobs to be available to be done from home
• With advancing technologies more jobs will
be accessible from home. This will help save
money and resources increasing the quality of
life for many.
11. Moore’s Innovation adoption rate (1962)
What does it mean?
• Explains that innovations go
through a gradual change of
being accepted by
early adapters, early majority,
late majority, and then lastly
the laggards. Adoption can be
slow and take time. The
adoption rate most often
follow a diffusion curve. It can
take time for everyone to
catch on to the change.
How does it pertain?
• People are used to things
one way and changing is
scary. People fear the
unknown. Working from
home is a new concept but
with todays technology it is
a very real reality. The
people will catch up with
the concept and in 10 years
it will be the norm.
