Anyone know the difference between hardware and software?
Let’s talk about hardware Please know you will not usually use a laptop, but that what’s we have for training Every keyboard is different, but will have the same elements Go through the animation to show elements
Who has seen the logo on the screen? (Windows) Windows is the platform that runs the computer. No software will run without it. Internet: News, Videos, Shopping Weather But we will not be doing that at Pharmavite!
Your computer has a power button to turn it off and on. You will not need to turn the power on at the kiosks – those will always be on.
This is the desktop – it’s the first screen you will see when you turn a computer on. (Go through the examples of what is on the desktop – the icons) At Pharmavite you most likely be using the icons on the left side (Program shortcuts for iNotes and Your HR/Payroll Self Service) Calculator example (show how to open and that it shows on the task bar.)
Point out the Start button Show how to Log Off and Shut Down – this is how you will exit windows ** Please do not shut down the kiosks; you will want to leave them on for others to use. This is the desktop we will see you today.
This is what you will see on the kiosks.
This is what you will see at the kiosks; on your training laptop, the keyboard looks a little different, but all of the keys are there. (As you go through the keys, ask students to point out the keys on the keyboard as they find them)
Demonstrate how to capitalize by holding down the Shift key when you type a letter.
Like a capital, hold the shift key down and press a number to get special character. When you see two characters on a key, you will get the top one when you hold down the shift key. Look at the “2” key
Point out that the cursor is the indicator of where your text is. Click Enter, look at where the cursor goes – to the next line.
You can use the backspace key to change or correct what you have typed (like an eraser)
Ask students to type their name 3 times, to match what is shown on slide Talk through the Shift key and the Caps Lock key
Scroll button and roller Show how to put their hand on the mouse
Make sure that the webpage is already open http://tech.tln.lib.mi.us/tutor/ Talk to the pages and have them follow along on their computers with you on the projector Show them where the Enter key is on their Keyboard Explain to them to follow your instructions (i.e. when to hit Enter) and to let you know when they have completed the step Especially make sure that their hands and fingers are positioned right on the mouse MOVE QUICKLY!
