Read over the Museum Paper Instructions to be sure you know what you are supposed to be
doing.
Look through the Object Choice Museum List and browse through a few of the museum
collections of ancient art.
Choose the artwork you want to discuss about from any of the online museum collections in
the Object Choice Museum List.
Museums with ancient art collections online to look through: *Note that many of these
museums also have collections that include artwork created AFTER the cut-off period for
this paper. Be sure to choose an artwork that was created before roughly 1300 CE (must be
BEFORE the Italian Renaissance)
https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/works/ The above link takes you to the website for the
Metropolitan Museum of Art's Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History. Near the top of the page,
you will see 3 drop-down menu bars. Use the one on the far right - Select a thematic
category - to choose a time period and region covered in this course.
https://collections.carlos.emory.edu/collections The above link takes you to the collections
page of the website for the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University in Atlanta (my
Alma Mater). You may choose an artwork from either the Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and
Near Eastern Art collection or the Greek and Roman Art collection.
https://www.mfa.org/collections The above link takes you to the collections page of the
Museum of Fine Arts Boston (MFA). This website is less user-friendly than the others, but
with a little experimentation, you should be able to access a LOT of artworks to look
through and choose from. You can look at highlights from the collections by clicking on the
region/time links: Ancient Egypt, Nubia, Near East; Ancient Greece and Rome; or Europe
(the Europe collections option has many sub-categories that we will cover in this semester).
