Work Experience
Jan 2009 - Present
I am the Sales Manager for AFD Plant, which was a new start business when I joined . My
brief was to start, run and grow the business year on year by selling a range of used
equipment.
The plant type consists of forklift trucks, access platforms, warehouse equipment and
sweeping machines.
This has been achieved and today the sales figures show a despatch of 73 units in the last 12
month period, with a turnover of £378,000 and returning profits of £197,000. This is a split of
85% new business and 15% returning customers (this figure will grow as time goes by).
This is comparable to figures acieved by area sales engineers on a sales territory, however
considering all of the other duties involved is an excellent achievement. This also highlights
my strong work ethic.
The role includes lead sourcing, preparing quotations, completing all relevant health and
safety documentation, sourcing ( buying) and preparing equipment (hands on refurbishment),
obtaining orders ( closing deals), arranging delivery schedules,( doing the driving for delivery )
liasing with customers and arranging after sales service arrangements (servicing the
equipment myself). I also do all of the bookworks , certification and file storage. It is an all
Encompassing role which uses all of my knowledge , experience and expertise.
The customer base in this business is wide and varied, consisting of mainly small and start-up
companies making their first aquisition of equipment.
Jan 2003 -Dec 2009 Sales Director, Wednesbury Forklifts Ltd
As a Non-Exectutive Director, I controlled the sales and marketing of the forklift truck sector.
The company was highly geared to sell machines on lease or contract. Hire through finance
houses.
All targets were achieved, with £500,000 of revenue, based on 50 reconditioned and new
units. This was 50% new business and 50% retained customers.
Dec 1998 - Dec 2003 Area Sales Manager, Lift Truck Services Ltd
This role with a well run small company required me to manage a sales area in the west
midlands and control a small field sales team of two that covered the east Midlands and
South West.
Sales Targets were aimed at sales and hire growth, with a turnover rising from £450,000 to
£1,000,000 during this period. This included building a hire fleet of over 70 machines and 100
2. machine sales. The sales split began at 70% new business and 30% retained business. This
later balanced to 50/50.
1
May 1995- Dec 1998 Key Accounts Executive Caterpillar GB (Leverton)
This was a very demanding role which involved a great deal of nationwide travel, which was
thoroughly rewarding both financially and in achievement. I worked on larger contracts in
distribution, logistics & warehousing with Tesco primarily, Asda and Sainsburys.
Targets of 100 new units per year with £1.5 million turnover was achieved.
Jun 1985 – May 1995 Jungheinrich GB Sales Engineer
This was my first sales role in materials handling equipment. It was a role in which I enthused
and thrived. My start target was 30 new units and 10 used in Year 1. Without fail I beat the
targets year on year, rising to 60 new and 40 used units, with over £1 million in revenue and
National Salesman of the Year Awards.
Jun 1983 – Jun1985 Sales Representative Newey & Eyre Ltd
This was my first sales role as a Representative for Newey & Eyre Ltd. Here, I progressed well
by increasing sales revenue month on month from a start of £10,000 per month and after
two years this had reached £23,000 per month.
Sep -1973 Jun 1983 Electrical Engineer Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company
