1. Editing Techniques: Now You See Me
J-Cut:
The J-Cut is used when Jack Wilder is first announcing his magic trick. The audio is
him addressing the boat passengers, yetthe shotis of him walking up the stairs of
the boat.
Cutting on Action:
Cutting on action is used when the magic trick is being performed this shows the
audience the reactions of the people on the boat.
InvisibleCut:
This cut is used when Wilder is demonstrating the spoon is a real spoon. This cut
makes the scene seem to flow more smoothly.
Basic Cut:
This editing technique is used throughoutthe scene in different ways. Itmainly is
there justto show a different perspective and movethe scene along.
Cut Away:
Used during the magic trick. This cut shows Wilder and then the audience and
then back to Wilder. This helps show the whole scene to the audience rather than
justfocusing on one thing.
These editing techniques could suggestthat the film is following the enigma
theory as it helps portray the magic tricks which are the mystery the audience has
to work out. The cuts makethe scene feel morefast-paced so it is harder for the
audience to keep up making the magic trick more mysterious.
