Presentation at 2013 AGI conference to highlight how the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA) is a great opportunity not just for those within the Public Sector.
How the PSMA is helping not just the Public Sector
The PSMA is of great benefit to the Public Sector
‘Free’ Mapping
Huge network of colleagues to talk to
Greater ability to share information and share data on OS Mapping ‘for business use’
PSMA User Representative Group (PURG) – there to be your voice and support at a regional, national level
Major changes – Tell OS, Change Intelligence Trial – Huge for improving OS Mapping
PSMA Census and PSMA Events
PSMA Methodologies
How is the PSMA beneficial to everyone else?
Things are not a ‘lock in’ between OS and Public Sector
Private Sector: PSMA only gives the data, does not deliver the tools – huge opportunity for business growth to help support some 3,000 members with tools, software, assistance to get the most from new opportunities
Education Sector: Massive opportunity to get hands on a wealth of data, under the new licensing terms to share information to help the business delivery of the public sector
Community Groups -
Isn’t free great?
Everyone loves something for nothing
That’s what the PSMA gives the Public Sector – a huge wealth of mapping data for zilch, nada, nothing, zero pounds – that’s pretty damn amazing.
But the good stuff doesn’t just end there, with the PSMA in place, as long as you’re undertaking work for the purpose of your council business, you can share your data and the mapping you need with far greater freedom than has ever been offered to you. A clearer licensing structure as part of the PSMA really enables you to your data out to the people who need it ..put something else in here!
But whoah, free mapping, easier to share data. But I’m new to all this and I’m a bit lost – are you serious, well yes, but fear not because you’re not the only person out there...
Not forgetting one of the biggest developments – AddressBase, for the first time a product is available that is the definitive address dataset for Great Britain – with information from most local authorities being passed into the dataset on a daily basis, and what’s more impressive
Along with the changes being made by OS to improve the quality of data,
You’re one of thousands of public sector organisations who have also signed up to this agreement, and they’re your friends and support network – with varying levels of knowledge and expertise who are all in the same boat and more often than not, are willing to help you find your way through all that is permissible to you within the PSMA..
But if they can’t give you the help you need, you can refer to..
Tier 2 and Open Source Guides
Major Changes – Tell OS – Change Intelligence –
Website Developments
Tier 2 and Open Source Guides
But please let me stress that isn’t just a cosy love-in like these guys, no PSMA has significant opportunities for organisations outside of the PSMA.
PRIVATE SECTOR – 3,00 MEMBERS NOT ALL ARE AWARE OF WHAT GIS IS
PSMA DOES NOT DELIVER THE TOOLS ONLY THE DATA
INSPIRE ASSISTANCE
SUPPORT IN MAKING DATA OPEN
SUPPORT IN DELIVERING DATA DIFFERENTLY (BASE MAPS)
SUPPORT IN SHARING DATA MORE EFFECTIVELY
Addressbase compliance by 2014 – we’re gonna need loaders
Universities can benefit from this agreement by taking advantage of the improved licensing by seeking out the opportunities the new licences provide, for partnership working within the Public Sector. You have thousands of students having to complete research projects every year – why not get them involved in helping the local council/health service/emergency service by tackling the current problems they face. The organisation gets a piece of high quality research, making good use of the wealth of data they have at their disposal, that can be used to build a business case or make significant efficiencies/improvements, whilst the student gets to see a potential end product for their hard work (plus it could also help with potential employment opportunities!)
