1. Class Participation/Discussion Board Grading Rubric
Part of your class participation is measured through the discussion question dialogue.
The dialogue posted in the weekly discussion questions and the weekly summary
submission count toward this criterion. Individual discussion question responses count
towards the class participation requirement. Only posts in the Main classroom forum will
count towards your class participation score. Participation counts as 18% of your final
grade. Participation is expected 6 weeks out of our 6 week class. For each week you
are required to post 2 substantive posts, 4 days of the week. This is a total of 8 S posts
over the learning week. The following chart details criteria for a substantive post. Only
substantive posts will be used for credit toward the weekly class participation grade.
You must receive a met requirement on 3 out of 4 of the requirements below in order for
a post to be counted as substantive. If you do not meet the requirement, detailed
feedback will be given to you for implementation on future dialogues. An S or a U will be
posted next to your responses so you will know if a response is considered substantive
or unsubstantive.
Substantive posts include
• Encourage additional discussion by
asking follow-up questions so that
your fellow students think more
deeply.

Discussion question responses should be at least 200-300 words. For discussion
question responses in the Main forum, please post responses to the threads provided.
To respond, highlight the appropriate thread, click on Reply, type your response, and
send. Please do not start a new thread for the weekly discussion questions in the Main
forum.
Unlike your formal written assignments, I do not require that your discussion question or
participation responses adhere to specific formatting requirements like those to be used
for a paper, but your posts should reflect professional and academic tone and writing.
However, please make sure to proofread carefully. Grammar and spelling errors may
impact the grading.
I expect your discussion question responses to reflect critical thought. Whenever
possible, please try to relate the course content to real-world applications from your
work experience.
