amazing experience. Just smelling the fresh air would make you forget all your troubles, and relax.

Therefore all of the foreigners that are here now using our casinos and going back with everything,
would have to leave that twenty five percent tax fee for the government.
Legalizing gambling would also lead to a decrease in the unemployment rate. In an article entitled

The Importance Of Life In My Life
I am a Bahamian citizen attempting to not only change my country but the world. The Bahamas is
known for its beautiful beaches, warm weather, and ideal island lifestyle. Unbeknownst, many
Bahamians live completely negligent due to the slow lifestyle of an island. Below the surface of an
ideal lifestyle, is the myriad of health conditions many Bahamians suffer from. In my home, the
number one cause of death is non– communicable diseases –i.e. hypertension, cancer, and diabetes.
These diseases affect nearly every Bahamian family, including my own. I first wanted to become a
doctor, when a close family member was diagnosed with lupus. At six years old, I watched her
suffer in the hospital on several occasions. It was then, I knew I needed to bring change in the
medical field. I wanted to find some way to alleviate her pain. Seeing her lying in a hospital bed, I
only wanted to heal her and take her pain away. I knew that as a doctor, I would only be able to help
persons, once they became ill. I wanted to do more. It was through her and an amazing high school
chemistry teacher that made me realized I wanted to become a research chemist. It was not until this
past summer that my passion was officially confirmed. I received a call from a family member and
was told that it was time to say goodbye to my cousin. As a recent high school graduate, she had her

Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Bahamas
Imagine sitting on white beach with sand like grains of sugar and the sound of waves crashing onto
the shore a short distance away and the warmth of the summer sun on your back. That is just some
of what I was able to experience when my family took a week long vacation to the Bahamas. I've
never really forgotten that week and I know that I want to be able to go back there again in the
future. I was only nine at the time but even then I was able appreciate the trip. I remember having to
to wake up at 4:00 am to make it to the airport on time, which my nine year old self was convinced

The room was similar to an apartment it was so big. The resort was also located on the beach which
was very convenient. One thing I remember the most about it was the restaurant. It was a buffet for
every meal which took up a whole wall. They had so many fresh fruits that I had never had before

I don't mind, my mom can talk enough for the both of them and she does, chattering away about her
plans and dreams as we zoom through the night while I watch the wide American roads, with one
too many lanes and roads that pave through the sky.
This country is amazing.
It's the first day of school and I tug on the hem of my skirt–too short, the garment falls above my
knees, whereas in the Bahamas the skirts had to be two inches below knee level. The halls are too
crowded and the students are too loud. I'm thrown a few dirty looks as I bump into a few people, I'm
not used to navigating this large of a crowd.
I'm put in 6th grade with the other students my age, I'm supposed to be in 7th grade, but I don't say
anything. All throughout the day my backpack and skirt get caught on the lockers as I try to avoid
the stampede of students tearing down the halls. In my classes I grab the corner seats, huddling
away and watching with wide eyes as the students chatter amongst themselves. They're all rude and
disrespectful in the way they address the teacher, but I seem to be the only one of this opinion if the
way the teacher accepts this is any indication. But the day isn't all that bad, none of my teachers
make the students introduce themselves.

Last week, while having my morning coffee, I overheard a conversation between a college lecturer
and a well–known secretary in The Ministry of Finance. I was about to return upstairs in my office
when I observed the secretary pushed forward, looking the lecturer directly in her eyes emphatically
and aggressively said, "You academics just don't get it...the government aint gat no money to take
care no university." I relaxed in my seat as the conversation between the two raged on. This same
discussion is but a fragment of a national discussion that has been ongoing in this country for many

Back in the summer of 2007, my family decided to board a plane and travel to the Bahamas for our
vacation. When we got there, we were able to go around to many different places. One of the very
first things my family decided to do was going down to the beach. Afterwards, we walked over to

Here there is two ping pong tables, a saltwater pool, a jacuzzi, a cafe, and they had a platform for
shows. My cousin and I played ping pong some nights. At night they would turn the lights on in the

The old brown snow lay on the side of the streets. A vast storm has passed Portland just a few days
ago. The weather was chilling and there was the scent of snow running through the air. "Did you get
everything?" my dad yelled to me. He was always sour when I pack my belongings to go on a trip. I
sat on the suitcase, trying to close it. It was as if the beast wouldn't close but finally did.

Bahamas until it won its independence in 1973. ("Remembering Our Past" 2014) Bahaman culture
is very diverse, with intriguing cuisine; many represented religions, interesting and familiar
holidays, beautiful clothing, and much more. In the Bahamas the economy is steadily developing, it
is dependent on tourism and offshore banking. Bahaman resources include salt, aragonite, and

and culturally changing nation. The Bahamas has a complicated history. Columbus discovered the
Bahamas in 1492 when he landed in San Salvador on his journey westward. The British made the
Bahamas a colony in the year 1649 nearly 157 years after Columbus landed in San Salvador.
English Puritans were among the first to land and colonize the Bahamas on their quest for religious
freedom. All the settlers found was a lack of food. They where led by Captain William Sayles and
known as the "Eleutheran Adventurers." The captain of the Eleutheran Adventures sailed to
Massachusetts Bay colony to get food; as a way of saying "thank you" the settlers sent the colony
some brasileto wood, that the money from would help purchase the land for Harvard University.

want to visit through out my life people that would visit would always tell me "If there's ever a time
that you want to visit a place with different water resorts and historic land marks the Bahamas is the
place to go." Some people go to see celebrity grave sights such as Anna Nicole Smith and her son,
some just go to get away and be by the water to get there mind off of things. Some just go for

The Bahamas are also known for all the great bodies of water it has. Everyone who has visited
always find there selves loving the Sea of Abaco a 62 mile long saltwater lagoon. This lagoon is
located inside of the Bahamas that separates the Great Abaco Island from a chain of barrier islands.
Just taking a treat to the Bahamas you see so many remarkable things and places, a magnificent
place to visit is a major city called Freeport that is located northwest of the Bahamas on a island
called Grand Bahamas. It is a place full of a verity of artifacts and places to have fun and spend time
with your family. Many places that you go you see that people from different places do things a lot
differently then you do. For clothing in the Bahamas most people wear cloths that have palm trees

Government is said to be necessary to the existence of a civilized society but how could one survive
in a society where the Government isn't civil to a nation. They have consistently failed to keep
Bahamians safe and secure. In Bahamian society cronyism, embezzlement, scandals and corruption
have plagued our unsuccessful governments. They must be held accountable thus, circumstances
like these should result in immediate termination of any politician without exceptions.
The unfair practice by Politicians who provides employment and other favors to individuals has
been skeptic for Bahamian. It is common that once Government changes, many of the staff within
the various ministries will also. In June 2012, The Tribune reported that in less than two months in
office, the current Administration decided not to renew the contracts of eighty Urban Renewal
employees. Thus, eighty persons were left unemployed and eighty families affected due to the

maneuvered themselves as innocent bystanders in the turmoil, refusing to accept responsibility the

Rousseau's ideology in his piece on the social contract is directly related to the issue Bahamian
music is facing. The importance of viewing Rousseau's piece through an introspective lens is to
allow Bahamians to appreciate that they should possess the freedom in relegating what art forms
