Nature Is A Product Of The Earth
Coastlines have always been something of interest throughout human history. We have built homes,
parks and even cities along them, but at what cost? "Coastlines are not found in nature; they are
products of human initiative..." (Gillis 99). This quote said by John R. Gillis brings up a very
important discussion. Are coastlines found in nature or have they been built into something we as
humans wanted them to be? When the quote is first read, it may be easy to say of course coastlines
exist in nature because they are nature. Although, when looking at it deeper one must ask what is the
definition of nature. Nature is defined as the physical world collectively, including plants, animals,
the landscape, and other features and products of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without those piles and bulkheads those houses would not be able to be there. Which is an example
of changing nature to support the want we have to live on the coast. This was seen also in San
Francisco in the mid 1800's.
The gold rush hit San Francisco in 1849 and in two years the town of 1,000 people turned into a
large coastal city of 25,000 people. The land behind the bay was mountains and was not a good fit
for expanding the city so they built near the shore. As the city grew throughout the years a need for
more land increased. They began to build into the bay and actual changed the outline of the coast
entirely. They used the steam paddy to fill in large areas of the San Francisco's coast. As they began
to make land and build on it numerous problems began to be discovered. Besides physically
changing the entire shoreline of San Francisco, it created "man–traps" that were uneven fillings of
land that would sink when people stepped on them, it also created seismic hazards, which was seen
by the 1906 Earthquake, and fire hazards, which was also seen by the Great Fire of 1851 (Dyl
Lecture). This is a perfect example of a coast being a product of human initiative. As the need for
land increased along the coast we as people had no problem changing the coast. J.D. Stillman was
quoted in the Overland Monthly in 1868 saying "Men, in their

Adelaide's Beaches Analysis
The coast is the buffer between terrestrial land and the marine, it is the boundary of where land
meets water which is known as the coastline. Tides, waves and currents are what help form
coastlines. However, when waves meet or crash on the shore, they erode the land, leaving behind
tiny parts of the sea such as shells, seaweed and marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central
beaches are continually eroding because sand is pushed along the coast by waves. (BAC Australia,
n.d) Coastlines are badly affected by erosion and The Coast Protection Board is urgently needed to
protect and manage Adelaide's beaches. Without them managing the beaches, several of Adelaide's
southern metropolitan beaches will be left with very little sand on them. ... Show more content on

Geological history has ancient records of Australia being connected to Antarctica land mass, being
apart of Gondwanaland. This mass of land was mainly above sea level, which began to change due
to the tertiary period because of extreme climates and erosion. Australia was separated from
Gondwanaland approximately 55 million years ago. (Department for environmental heritage and
Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now
known as the southern boundary. (ibid) The what seems like simple separation of land caused huge
movements and resurfaced a lot of land. For example, the St Vincent basin which is located
north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed step–able rocks, and the Adelaide
hills were also formed. Sea levels were also dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level
than what sea levels show today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily,
however, that are at a very slow rate.

Explain Why Is The Coastal Zone Most Favoured For Development
Why is the coastal zone so favoured for development?
The coastal zone has been favoured for development consistently around the world, this is because
of the benefits settling on the coast brings. There are many physical and human factors that
contribute to accessibility of development on the coast. Half the world's population lives within 60
km of the sea, and three–quarters of all large cities are located on the coast. The benefits the coast
holds draw people to develop it.
One of the reasons the coast is favoured is the conditions it offers. The land by the coast is often, flat
and fertile. Alluvium deposited in land near the coast gives it nutrients making it ideal for
agriculture. The flat land available on many coastlines makes an ideal ... Show more content on

Ports attract industry and thus development. Larger settlements develop to accommodate the
shipping trade like warehousing, processing and commerce. Shanghai is the busiest port in the world
and has developed because of this. Due to its excellent port, Shanghai has been a leading power of
China's economic and trade development since ancient times. Its economy has increased by over
10% for 15 consecutive years and it accounts for 25% of the total value of China's imports and
exports and 12.5% of the total revenue. By being in the coastal zone it has been a beacon for
development and it is that has allowed it to gain the position of the third highest GDP in China.
Shanghai has and will continue to develop because of its location near the

The Journey Of My Life Essay
Midway along the journey of my life, I pause to find myself in a darkened office, for I had wandered
off from the studious path. The cold piercing glow of my monitor against bloodshot eyes taunted
them with just how exhausted they had become. Projects that never seemed to want to work, grew
more dysfunctional with every fix. The continued fatigue drove the temptation of distraction.
Gazing out the window of my study I began examining the parking lot across the street. I began
watching a figure fumbling between the cars. My mind began wondering how I would ever get my
work done, I began wondering just how long I had until the sun 's unwelcome glow would fill my
peripheral vision while I continued to clack away against a futile assortment of code. A loud wailing
of a car siren, focuses me. Again out the window I see the figure now in a car with the alarms
blaring. I watch intently waiting for them to shut off, they don 't. I stare blankly as the car starts
driving down the nearby alley, horns echoing solely in the night. Listening while the horns become
quieter and further away. I can tell what street they are headed down and I think of what I should do.
Grabbing my phone, then second guessing myself. Staring at it waiting for it to call someone who
can do something. After blindly observing my phone for what seemed like hours, I begin to realize it
is too late to do anything. Before I know it my head lay on my desk. I keep telling myself that if I

Peter Temple the Broken Shore Views and Values Essay
THE BROKEN SHORE
Peter Temple's acclaimed crime fiction novel 'The Broken Shore' chronicles the unfolding of a
murder investigation on the rugged Victorian coastline through the eyes of a morally flexible small
town cop. The novel showcases the complex social structures apparent in contemporary rural
Victoria, particularly focusing on the often shaky relations between anglo and indigenous
Australians. It also addresses the segregation between the have's and the have not's within society
and the institutions that separate the social classes and explores the intricacies of the arguably
broken Australian/Victorian legal system. Temple uses Joe Cashin, his lone–crusader type
protagonist, to assert his view that the justice system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the commentary of characters like Cashin and Cecily Addison, who are both relative
outsiders in Cromarty, Temple is able to convey a fictional first hand view of the insular society that
holds in high esteem the likes of Charles Bourgoyne and Helen Castlemen, as they are moneyed,
educated and challenge the stereotypical country hick labels that are often collectively placed on
citizens residing in rural areas. Through the use of Cashin and Cecily, Temple is also able to
construct an unbiased observation of how these same areas discriminate against the, often
indigenous and/or low socio economic, down trodden members of society and ostracise them both
physically, through the demarkation line that tells indigenous Australians where they can and cannot
live, restricting them to the "Daunt settlement", and also intellectually, through the copious use of
words like "coon" and "nigger" in regard to the "blackfellas". Surprisingly it is not only the bogan–
esque beach bums who assert their politically incorrect and blatantly racist attitudes towards the
indigenous residents. Members of the working class like Hopgood and his team for example also
exhibit prejudice against the Aboriginals and contrary to the traditional 'innocent 'til proven guilty'
notion it seems to be more of a 'guilty 'til proven innocent' situation when the young "coons" are
suspected of robbing and murdering Bourgoyne. This is perhaps the product of how the
parochialism of small

The Amazing Vacation Place My favorite vacation spot is Myrtle Beach. My first time going to this
beach was when I was ten years old. My great aunt took me and my three girl cousins to Myrtle
Beach for our girls' trip. It was one of the most fun and memorable times of my life. Since then the
beach has become my favorite place to vacation with my family and friends. The beach became my
preference soon as I laid eyes on it. At the beach the scenery is astonishing. The buildings are
beautiful, the air is refreshing, the amusements parks are full of cheer and laughter, the food is
delicious, and the ocean is just breathtaking. When I'm walking down the strip, I feel like I am in

Descriptive Essay About Vacation In America
As a child, the ocean charmed me. After glancing at the never ending shore line's going from coast
to coast as far as the eye can see, I felt like a grain of sand on the beach. I never thought I could see
anything else as immense and alluring. As I relaxed on a lawn chair soaking up the rays of sunshine
in Alabama, my friends froze in Iowa from the early stages of spring still bitter from the past winter.
During my family vacation in Alabama many memories were cemented into my mind as I soaked up
the radiant sunshine on the blistering beachside chair. My eyes sluggishly peeled open as I rest on
the edge of the slightly deflated air mattress prepared to conquer my first day on vacation. I slipped
my feet onto the rough and gritty carpet as I hoisted myself from my deep slumber, feeling the
sensation of all the dust still lodged between the micro carpet fibers. I heard the humming of the
generator as it rang through the camper along with the cars on the highway zooming by in the
distance. Gazing out the window I saw the glistening blood–orange sunrise that laid just above the
horizon. I patiently awaited the sweltering heat wave that would take place in hours to come. Still
half asleep, I hobbled to the sink at a turtle's pace to prepare myself for the journey ahead of me.
After I staggered into my neon pink two piece I flung a flowy dress embroidered with patterns over
my figure. Then I squeezed the toothpaste container until the last drop fell onto my toothbrush. I

4 Reasons Myrtle Beach is not Just for Retirement Many people have the notion that beach
communities are simply areas for people to relocate to and enjoy their retirement. This however,
simply isn't the case. Coastal cities are major centers for tourism, so they create attraction and
provide activities for people of all ages. They cater to everyone and attract the greatest amount of
tourists, not simply to those in the later years of life. Myrtle Beach is one such area that many
perceive as just an area for retirement, but in all actuality it is so much more. It is a coastal
community full of life and that has a variety of cultures to learn and explore. Still not convinced?

People, especially when they are on vacation, like to let loose and party. So, with a large population
of people like to have places to enjoy night activities, Myrtle Beach is not lacking in the night life
experience. There is plenty of clubs and bars in the surrounding area to meet the tastes and needs of
any individual who is looking for some nighttime fun. Choices for students A very obvious reason
that Myrtle Beach isn't solely for retirement is because students have a variety of choices in the area.
The community has a variety of schools to choose among, from private to public. There are two
universities in the area as well as technical and trade schools. The elementary to high school even
have glowing recommendations and some are known to specialize in specific fields. If Myrtle Beach
was an area purely devoted to retirement purposes, then there wouldn't be such a broad choice in
schools. Employment opportunities With a large tourism industry, there are a lot of jobs to be
fulfilled in Myrtle Beach. Those in retirement aren't going to fill them, so it stands to reason that
there are plenty of individuals living in the area that are still in the mist of their career days. If jobs
are available, then it is almost certain there will be a willing workforce living within the

St Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park Essay
St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park is a wondrous place that is highlighted by a beautiful white sand
beach. Although this state park can be challenging to get to, it is well worth the effort. Take a look at
everything this remote beach has to offer.
Location
St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park is located on the northern end of Jupiter Island, slightly east of
Port Salerno. Those wishing to visit this state park may only access it via boat.
The beach
Once you reach the island, you will be treated to a stretch of beach that extends almost three
spectacular miles. You can do just about anything your heart desires on this beach. If you are
looking for just a minimal amount of activity, you can stroll along the sandy shore. You can watch
the waves lap against the shore as a calm feeling washes over you. If you visit the beach between
March and October, you will also get to see leatherback, green, and loggerhead sea turtles, as they
use this area as a nesting ground. If you crave a bit more activity, you can head to the water where
you can surf, snorkel, or SCUBA dive. If all of that seems like too much activity for you, you can
grab a towel, catch some rays, and watch the other people on the beach. Whatever way you choose
to spend your time at the beach, you will certainly have a spectacular time. ... Show more content on

Artificial Reef Case Study
After evaluating the two suggested proposals against the main criteria of social/ political, economic
and environmental it was concluded that proposal B, to construct the artificial reef – is the most
suitable option to implement at Palm Beach to ensure both short and long term health and
sustainability of the beach. Even though the artificial reef had some negatives, they were
outweighed by the environmental, social and long–term economic advantages. The artificial reef is
an earth–cantered system which can be implemented as an environmentally form of economic
growth, and it is a sustainable use of resources which will ensure that Palm Beach is maintained and

Additionally, since the destructive waves break on the reef then only the low energy, constructive
waves reach the shore which makes deposition possible therefore the beach will have the chance to
naturally build up sand and widen. Even though the beach nourishment program is already
established so there are no initial costs required and the artificial reef has high construction costs,
around $16.9 million to be implemented, the reef has very low maintenance costs (to ensure it is
working effectively) this is minute in comparison of the ongoing costs of the beach nourishment
program. However, with the artificial reef there may be the need to implement another program or to
continue the beach nourishment program to support it. Yet, even though there are extremely high
initial costs, the artificial reef would increase tourism and support local businesses, which outweighs
and justifies the large cost as in the long term it will be economically beneficial. Also, it is
aesthetically pleasing, attracts diverse marine life, improves surf quality and recreational amenity so
it will attract tourists and will take pressure off the natural reefs whilst aiding to stabilise the beach.
Overall, the implementation of an artificial reef would be effective coastal management strategy as

Salton Beach Research Paper
In the 1950s and '60s, Bombay Beach in California was a thriving resort. Guests swam, water–skied,
and golfed during the day, then headed to the yacht club to party at the end of the night. Now,
Bombay Beach is a faded, rusted, abandoned wasteland. The water smells like salt, gas, and rotting
dead fish. The shores lined with sunbathers before, and now they are covered in green sludge and
dried fish remains. To understand how this place turned from paradise to agony, you need to know
the story of the Salton Sea. Bombay Beach doesn't lie on the west coast, but in the Colorado Desert.
In 1905, the Colorado River swelled, penetrated its walls, and flooded the desert valley known as
the Salton Sink. The water flowed for two years, then creating a 15 by 35 mile lake named the
Salton Sea. The creation of this internal sea was an accident; it was initially emerged to deliver great
benefits. Birds flocked to the area, and fish bloomed in the Salton Sea. Developers held the rare
setting and selected it the "Salton Riviera," or a "miracle in the desert." Hotels, yacht clubs, homes,
and schools sprang up by the shores, as the Salton Sea became a resort destination and a great place
to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With no drainage outlet, almost nothing of annual rain, and runoff flowing in from nearby farms; the
sea was polluted with dirty and saltier water than the Pacific Ocean. Periodic flooding brought the
poisoned water closer and closer to the shore. Useless oxygen in the sea killed many fish and
dragged their rotting bodies onto the beach shores, and that's where they shriveled in the sun. As
they rotted, the sand became covered in a layer of scrappy fish skeletons. Birds also died in that
water or have gotten severally sick. Rangers go out there every day to rescue the birds and clean up
some of the other dead birds found in the sea or in the

Erosion Of Beach
As we engineer the shoreline, this is a phase that may compare to the changing or altering the nature
of the shoreline in order to keep it stabilized. The stabilization methods of shoreline range from
planting dune grass, to large seawalls using bulldozers or cranes. These methods are short term.
Erosion of beaches caused by human may be greater than nature causing. Replenishing of beaches
may consist of pumping sand back out onto the beach, or building back up sand dunes. This would
result in not enough money to replenish the beach. Only the upper part of the beach would be
covered with new sand. This would create a steep beach. Creating the steep beach would increase
the rate of erosion. With sand being pumped from the lagoon, or shelf, this

Why I Have Gradually Learned Overtime Bit
My most wanted place to be calms me from the inside of my soul to the outside of feet. Always
giving me a pretty sight to see, no matter it be day or night because the temperature always feels so
right. I love the way the sand feels between my toes, almost losing control slipping beneath. Hearing
the wave's crash on the shoreline is so soothing to me sounding musically and symphonically. I can
look so far out, it helps me to get all my thoughts out. The water ready to immerse all of me, and I
can let it all go. Let the pain go, and all my anger drives the tide trying to pull me away.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self–control; against such things there is no law (Galatians 5:22–24)." I have gradually learned
overtime bit by bit some of these fruitful things by being in my ecstasy. The beach just gives me
peace, it just being thus such a vast and beautiful attraction, awes and amazes me that one could
have such a wonderful leisure. Peace of mind is such a delightful feeling, and is available to each
person. Almost there so I do not stop what I am doing, the beach makes me feel like I need to drop
everything bad on the floor. No shirt, no jeans, just skin the waves do not hold back and I am all in.

Analysis Of Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Summer is the pinnacle of almost every American's vacation time. Warm weather,
beaches, Fourth of July, and summer parties. This might not be the reality of most American's
summer, but it is for the cast of "Jersey Shore." Jersey Shore is a reality television show, which was
aired by MTV (Music Television) from 2009 to 2012, and showcased a group of six roommates and
the time they spend together in the "Shore House" located in New Jersey over summer. These
roommates include Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi, Jennifer (JWoww) Farley, Sammi Giancola, Mike "The

Pivarnick. The specific episode being analyzed is episode 4, season 1 "Fade To Black." In this
episode, the casts is still trying to get to know each other a little better and start showing their true
colors. "Jersey Shore" targets an adolescent audience and tries to portray a style of care–free living.
However, the cast demonstrates stereotypical gender roles and an unrealistic life of partying to relay
this message. It is of popular opinion that Jersey Shore can be a bad influence on their adolescent
viewers. The reality TV show "Jersey Shore" uses stereotypical gender roles when expecting a
certain physique from a partner. The women are expected to put makeup on, style their hair, and
wear a short, tight–fitting dress when going out partying. This routine does not only abide

On the opposite, if there is a flat or gentle ground, and some kinds of vegetation covering, the
volume and speed of overland flow will decrease. For the coastal environment and processes of the
island, the low energy waves create flat beaches because waves' sediments are pushed by the wind
toward the coastline. On the opposite, the high energy waves create coastal cliffs from wave

north facing slopes seem to have a moister soil and more vegetation. Even though south facing
slopes receive more direct sunlight and snow will melt

New World Narrative
A Completely New World Sometimes the most impactful events can emerge from the most common
occasions. For instance, on another insignificant summer day, in the Southwest corner of Minnesota,
I was passing my free time playing videogames, hanging out with friends, and working at HyVee. In
other words, I was going through my regular routine. My family and I had been planning a trip to
San Diego, California. Soon, I would leave my summer for the big city. Here there would be
beaches, palm trees, and numerous people. This event would make my summer more memorable, I
thought to myself. In the fall of 2015, my parents had bid on a package deal at the SMSU Gala and
won. Included in the deal were tickets and a tour of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every single beach that we went to had endless miles of shoreline. The beaches were almost like
Minnesota lakes on steroids. Actually, they were not comparable because of the pure size of the
beach and body of water. In addition, we learned that swimming in the ocean was more fun than
swimming in a Minnesota lake. The waves were fun to dodge or body surf on, because of their
enormous size. Also, there were tons of people at every beach we visited. It was a good thing that
there was so much shoreline because even with the huge amount of shoreline, it was still crowded.
Another thing I got to see firsthand was the surfers. One side of the beach was marked off for
swimming and the other for surfers. Before this trip, I had never seen anyone surf and it was
entertaining to watch them take a wave from so far away from shore and ride it all the way back into

Personal Narrative: Miami
Miami
Just close your eyes and imagine the salty breeze, blue sky, soft sand, rolling clear blue waves crash
into each other. You are in paradise, where the summer never stops and you want to stay here
forever. It is such a peaceful, quiet place, where all things seem perfect and care free. Open your
eyes and realize that you are in Miami, the most beautiful, peacefull and entertainment place in the
United States. There are so much stuff to do: theme parks, shopping, night life and so on. Despite all
of these fun things, my favorite place is always going to be the beach. I feel like ocean is my best
friend. Siting in a tilted chair and watching huge wavwes braking and crashing. Looks like water is

enjoy a salty fresh air and a beautiful view. Birds usually following me while I am riding on the

to share it with the birds, because they just walking around and staring at me with that hungry look.
They are always fighting for food between each other and it looks funny. Also, there are a lot of cats
just walking around the shore. I was thinking about it, how good is to be a cat and live at the beach.
The weather is always nice and warm, so many tourists who always willing to play with them and
so many restaurants leaving food for animals. That is why cats in Miami always look so relax,

The ability to teach myself about the obstacles I will face. I will bring hope to others when sharing
my story. With this lesson I bring my story to the Towson University campus community.
5. When you worry about tomorrow, you will ruin today.
The moments that we share right in this moment will never happen again. You should appreciate
every moment that you have. Every second that something happens. The majority of the fixations
you worry about don 't even happen. I've learned it's necessary to have 20 seconds of insane
fearlessness to perform something that you aspire to, although would be afraid. With this lesson I
bring to your school appreciation.
I was recently told a story of The Dead Starfish Beach by a man who uttered to me "I want to
change the world". I looked at him and thought how can one man that wants to tell me a random
story concerning a beach simply transform the world. But then I heard the beautiful story of The
Dead Starfish Beach. Thus to allow you to fully understand and relate to why this story had such an
impact on my heart, I will be obliged to simply tell you the story.
So there was a man who decided that he wanted to visit The Dead Starfish Beach to walk and clear
his mind. This man lived as a dreadfully narrow minded person that accepts occurrences simply for
what they are. As this man is walking down the shore of Dead Starfish Beach he spots an awfully

The Open Boat Compare and Contrast Essay
ENG 101
Feb. 3, 2011
The Open Boat Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft
This paper is about the story "The Open Boat" written by Stephen Crane. In this paper, I will try to
provide the similarities of the original story with the newspaper account. The differences in each
article will also be discussed. Lastly, I will provide a conclusion based on the facts of both articles.
"The Open Boat'' begins with a description of men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. These men
are all survivors of a shipwreck. There is the cook, overweight and sloppily dressed, who is trying to
remove water from the bottom of the boat. The oiler, a physically powerful man named Billie who is
rowing with one oar. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shares this thought with the other men, and the oiler smiles in sympathy. The men smoke cigars
drink their water and wait to be spotted by the lighthouse rescue crew, unwilling to run their boat
ashore in the rough waves. The lighthouse appears deserted. The men discuss rowing toward land
swimming through the surf once the boat finally capsizes in the rougher water that is closer to shore.
The crew knows that, over time, they will grow weaker and things will get worse, not better. They
exchange with each other "addresses and admonitions", in case all of them do not live through this
whole ordeal Later, someone is seen on the shore waving to them. A while later, a crowd gathers,
disembarking from a bus. Despite their efforts to let the people know on shore they were in distress,
they realize that the people on shore are tourists and that they think they are just simple fisherman.
Thoughts of drowning run rampant in every man's mind on that boat. At dawn, the men decided that
their only chance is to row toward the distant shore again and swim when the boat finally capsizes.
On the Captain's order, the oiler rows the boat directly toward the shore. The boat capsizes and the
people on the boat are so weak that it is hard for them to even keep their heads above water.
Suddenly, a man appears on shore stripping his clothes off and running into the water. The rescuer

Casinos In South Jersey
South Jersey is a truly unique area. There are different customs, distinctive sayings and words, and
rarely can you not find something to do. Most people from outside this area know us for the Jersey
Shore, booming with rides and local shops along the boardwalks. Along with multitudinous amounts
of family activities the New Jersey shores are known for, there are of course the notorious casinos.
Alongside the well known casinos of Atlantic City, New Jersey are also casinos around

Classroom Reflection
The teacher that I have selected for my interview, is one that I have previously used for an
assignment in this class. Mrs. Shore teaches freshman Biology, and is a coworker of mine at the
ninth grade academy in which I am employed. Mrs. Shore's classroom management style is one that
is very similar to what I had discussed in my reports over the length of this class. She uses a fun,
energetic environment, while at the same time clearly depicting expectations about student behavior.
She explained to me that she believes talking with students and gaining an understanding about
what type of environment works best for them, and then molding numerous styles together. When
discussing discipline issues, she notified me that her most difficult challenge is deciding when to
punish a student. Mrs. Shore explained that it is vital to be invested in students and know when
grace needs to be given, and when discipline actions need to be taken because students can be
adversely affected by their home lives and many other factors. She continued to explain that
multiple factors should be taken into account before deciding if a student truly deserves to be
punished. Another thing that I enjoy about Mrs. Shore is her classroom environment. When walking
into Mrs. Shores classroom students are not greeted with desk, but rather a variety of table styles
and around the tables students will find large rolling desk chairs. The setup of Mrs. Shores class is
what stood out to me the most. Her tables and chairs provide a sense of comfort while also allowing
students to learn in an environment different from the traditional school setting. Mrs. Shore
explained that she tries to provide a sense of safety and fun to her students.
Section B.
Mrs. Shore's main rules are similar to what you would consider general rules for most teachers.
During our interview she mentioned a variety of rules including that she harps heavily on time and
expects all students to be in their seat working before the bell. She said the reason for this is so the
class begins efficiently and she has time to for the entire lesson. Another rule of Mrs. Shore's is
simply mutual respect. She asks students to give their undivided attention to herself and other

The beaches of South Carolina are a prized quality and...
The beaches of South Carolina are a prized quality and possession to the state and its people as it
provides beauty, enjoyment and the economic benefits of tourism year round. Due to storms, natural
processes of sand movement and development, the beaches of South Carolina, specifically the
Grand Strand beaches and local beaches of Sullivan's Island and Folly Beach, are eroding at a rapid
rate. Erosion is a natural process effected by sea level rise, storms and currents and many techniques
have been used in the past to combat erosion issues that threaten to wash away beaches and homes
in the process. Erosion preventative structures used in the past, such as jetties and seawalls, have
proven to be even more damaging to beach erosion but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sea level rise is also a significant factor of erosion because as the sea level has risen over time,
beaches and barrier islands have moved, transporting sand in the process. Sea level rise is a long–
term process of coastal transformation as sand is steadily removed from beaches and barrier islands
and transported to other areas, creating less protection for beaches and estuaries. As sea level rise
continues to increase along the South Carolina coast, erosion by coastal flooding will become an
even greater problem (United States 1.1). One study on the correlation between sea level rise and
erosion concluded that sea level rise does increase erosion rates if nothing else due to the fact that
"rising sea level enables high–energy waves to reach farther up the beach and redistribute sand
offshore" (Leatherman 55). Human activity through construction also has a negative effect on
beaches and erosion, for example the building of structures such as seawalls, jetties and groins have
negatively effected the movement of sand, thus not allowing the proper amount of sand to reach the
beaches and barrier islands to replace the moving sand due to other factors (United States 1.1).
Erosion is a natural process of coastal change due to many factors, but human activity and
development can increase the rate at which

Descriptive Essay On The Shore
Venture Down The Shore If "The shirt before the shirt", "GTL", and "DTS" sound familiar then you
were an MTV Jersey Shore fan, a reality show set at Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Although The
Shore, which is a local term for the New Jersey Shore, has a reputation for being trashy, especially
after the show, it is actually a family–friendly vacation spot. Considering that it has a clean beach,
an amazing boardwalk with an amusement park and water park, quaint shops, and iconic landmarks,
it is no wonder that the New Jersey Shore is a favorite summer vacation spot. When I was a
teenager, my family took a vacation on the east coast. I was fortunate enough to have cool parents
that let the teenagers pick some places to visit. Since we were all fans of the Jersey Shore show and
so close to New Jersey, all the teenagers begged to go to "The Shore". I expected it to be a cool, hip
place with the MTV stars all around. The Shore looks similar to other beach cities. It has a calm,
relaxing feel to it. It has the beautiful, blue skies and ocean breezes. It has sunbathers, surfers,
boogie boarders, and beachcombers. However, there is a fee to go on the beach in addition to the
parking fee, which was a surprise for us, but it is "The Shore". The beach is clean with white sand
and blue water. Unlike California beaches, it is usually not crowded (probably because they charge
people). There are places to rent snorkeling gear and boogie boards. The excitement comes from the
boardwalk. It

Sebastian Inlet State Park

Offering a bit of calm for the young and an adventurous side for the wild at heart, Sebastian Inlet
State Park offers a beach the whole family enjoys. Located in Melbourne Beach, Florida, this beach
rests ten miles south of Melbourne Beach and six miles north of Vero Beach. And, lays claim as one
of six waterways linking the Indian River Lagoon to the Atlantic Ocean.
Three miles of beautiful beaches with rocky reefs beneath the water line describe this area. Water
clarity is best in the summer revealing a variety of fish and sea turtles. And, the Gulf waters lie 25 to
30 miles east of Sebastian Inlet for boaters and fishermen looking for a day on the water.

Beginning and advanced snorkelers find underwater life inspiring. Three areas provide choice to
visitors. First, the clear water of the shallow lagoon offers experience and safety for beginners and
the timid. Second, the Inlet with its strong current and rocky line remains popular and challenging.
Finally, Monster Hole drops to 30 feet deep 30 to 40 yards off the jetty for experienced snorkelers.
While lifeguards are not present at this beach, a warning flag program alerts swimmers to dangerous
or restricted areas. With a bit of attention, surfers, snorkelers and swimmers enjoy the sun and water
safely. The Cove provides protected swimming with no waves, which is perfect for young families.
And, the other side of the Inlet boasts ocean waves for splashing over eager swimmers.
Beachcombing on the shores of the Atlantic at Sebastian reveals plenty of shells and sea–beans.
Sunbathing, of course, offers relaxation. And, for a change of pace and year–round activity,
stargazing in the winter months is breathtaking. If that is not enough to do, canoeing and kayaking
on the Indian River Lagoon slows the pace.
Waterfront pavilions and picnic areas give families an opportunity to share a meal. And, for those
wanting to make more than a day of it, a campground with a boat ramp offers amenities. RV and
primitive camping are

In this region, many people who are interested in relaxing can come on vacation and enjoy their

and was able to gather information.
As I got closer to the beach, I noticed that the sand would drift into the shallow waters near the
shore which also gave room for a better view of the soft, sandy floor as one would get closer to the
water. However, further away from the shoreline, there were many sand dunes and shattered
seashells that were scattered everywhere in the sand. As I looked up towards the buildings nearby
the beach, I noticed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Coastal Management
WHAT IS COASTAL MANAGEMENT?
Coastal management refers to the technique in which natural features of the coast are maintained
and protected from the threats of coastal erosion and coastal flooding.
"Successful management of coastal areas depends on understanding the different uses of coastal
land and the physical processes impacting on the coast, such as erosion and longshore drift" (BBC,

Analysis Of Kafka On The Shore
It is natural for humans to question the meaning and nature of their existence in a world that is
constantly evolving and asking more questions of its inhabitants. In his 467–page novel Kafka on
the Shore, Haruki Murakami explores this complex and deeply confusing issue through the lens of
two protagonists – Kafka, an outcast 15 year old boy with a grotesque Oedipus Complex; and
Nakata, a pensioner who was subject to a disastrous trauma in the Second World War. Through their
stories, Murakami guides the reader through challenging concepts under the guise of magical
realism: a technique he uses to develop themes and meanings that would otherwise be inaccessible
to a writer with a more conventional approach. In the novel, time is bent, ... Show more content on

He struggles with the concept of his own existence, and is in constant pursuit of meaning – a search
which forces him to question his morality, intentions, and ideals – his true self. Immediately as the
novel begins, his subconscious takes center stage. In the introductory paragraph, we are introduced
to "Crow," a mysterious being who can only be described as Kafka's subconscious. Crow speaks to
Kafka throughout the novel, and brings him reason and guidance when his literal existence simply
does not suffice. Initially, Crow reminds Kafka:
"Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but
the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out,
like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn't something that
blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something
inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and
plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun
there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like
pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine." (3)

Pros And Cons Of Beach Nourishment
Report #3–Multiple Perspectives In this paper, I will address three different perspectives related to
the topic of beach nourishment. The first debate is that beach nourishment is feasible and
environmentally excepted method, to reduce storm and flooding risk. The second perspective is that
beach Nourishment is a costly and temporary fix. Third perspective is Beach nourishment does more
damage then it prevents, it merely exists to protect the homes of the wealthy, while damaging the
habitats of many beach dwelling species. Below I will show three different perspectives of beach
nourishment. The first perspective is beach nourishment is a feasible and environmentally excepted
method, to reduce storm and flooding risks. Beach nourishment is a shoreline protection program,
which are regularly monitored there are a number of guidelines, published by the Corps of
Engineers, " Native Beach Assessment Techniques for Beach Fill Design" also jointly prepared by
the Environmental Protection Agency. When starting a beach nourishment project, the company
hired to do so must obtain a permit. Laws and regulations governing the protection of the
environment, water quality, endangered, species, and historic properties also play a role on the
beach nourishment project. Along with the guidelines written by the Corps of Engineers, they also
must comply with the National Environmental policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

or natural slope. My third perspective, Beach nourishment does more damage then it prevents, it
merely exists to protect the homes of the wealthy, while damaging the habitats of many beach

Nature Is A Product Of The Earth

  • 1. Nature Is A Product Of The Earth Coastlines have always been something of interest throughout human history. We have built homes, parks and even cities along them, but at what cost? "Coastlines are not found in nature; they are products of human initiative..." (Gillis 99). This quote said by John R. Gillis brings up a very important discussion. Are coastlines found in nature or have they been built into something we as humans wanted them to be? When the quote is first read, it may be easy to say of course coastlines exist in nature because they are nature. Although, when looking at it deeper one must ask what is the definition of nature. Nature is defined as the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without those piles and bulkheads those houses would not be able to be there. Which is an example of changing nature to support the want we have to live on the coast. This was seen also in San Francisco in the mid 1800's. The gold rush hit San Francisco in 1849 and in two years the town of 1,000 people turned into a large coastal city of 25,000 people. The land behind the bay was mountains and was not a good fit for expanding the city so they built near the shore. As the city grew throughout the years a need for more land increased. They began to build into the bay and actual changed the outline of the coast entirely. They used the steam paddy to fill in large areas of the San Francisco's coast. As they began to make land and build on it numerous problems began to be discovered. Besides physically changing the entire shoreline of San Francisco, it created "man–traps" that were uneven fillings of land that would sink when people stepped on them, it also created seismic hazards, which was seen by the 1906 Earthquake, and fire hazards, which was also seen by the Great Fire of 1851 (Dyl Lecture). This is a perfect example of a coast being a product of human initiative. As the need for land increased along the coast we as people had no problem changing the coast. J.D. Stillman was quoted in the Overland Monthly in 1868 saying "Men, in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Adelaide's Beaches Analysis The coast is the buffer between terrestrial land and the marine, it is the boundary of where land meets water which is known as the coastline. Tides, waves and currents are what help form coastlines. However, when waves meet or crash on the shore, they erode the land, leaving behind tiny parts of the sea such as shells, seaweed and marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central beaches are continually eroding because sand is pushed along the coast by waves. (BAC Australia, n.d) Coastlines are badly affected by erosion and The Coast Protection Board is urgently needed to protect and manage Adelaide's beaches. Without them managing the beaches, several of Adelaide's southern metropolitan beaches will be left with very little sand on them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Geological history has ancient records of Australia being connected to Antarctica land mass, being apart of Gondwanaland. This mass of land was mainly above sea level, which began to change due to the tertiary period because of extreme climates and erosion. Australia was separated from Gondwanaland approximately 55 million years ago. (Department for environmental heritage and Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now known as the southern boundary. (ibid) The what seems like simple separation of land caused huge movements and resurfaced a lot of land. For example, the St Vincent basin which is located north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed step–able rocks, and the Adelaide hills were also formed. Sea levels were also dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level than what sea levels show today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily, however, that are at a very slow rate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Explain Why Is The Coastal Zone Most Favoured For Development Why is the coastal zone so favoured for development? The coastal zone has been favoured for development consistently around the world, this is because of the benefits settling on the coast brings. There are many physical and human factors that contribute to accessibility of development on the coast. Half the world's population lives within 60 km of the sea, and three–quarters of all large cities are located on the coast. The benefits the coast holds draw people to develop it. One of the reasons the coast is favoured is the conditions it offers. The land by the coast is often, flat and fertile. Alluvium deposited in land near the coast gives it nutrients making it ideal for agriculture. The flat land available on many coastlines makes an ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Journey Of My Life Essay Midway along the journey of my life, I pause to find myself in a darkened office, for I had wandered off from the studious path. The cold piercing glow of my monitor against bloodshot eyes taunted them with just how exhausted they had become. Projects that never seemed to want to work, grew more dysfunctional with every fix. The continued fatigue drove the temptation of distraction. Gazing out the window of my study I began examining the parking lot across the street. I began watching a figure fumbling between the cars. My mind began wondering how I would ever get my work done, I began wondering just how long I had until the sun 's unwelcome glow would fill my peripheral vision while I continued to clack away against a futile assortment of code. A loud wailing of a car siren, focuses me. Again out the window I see the figure now in a car with the alarms blaring. I watch intently waiting for them to shut off, they don 't. I stare blankly as the car starts driving down the nearby alley, horns echoing solely in the night. Listening while the horns become quieter and further away. I can tell what street they are headed down and I think of what I should do. Grabbing my phone, then second guessing myself. Staring at it waiting for it to call someone who can do something. After blindly observing my phone for what seemed like hours, I begin to realize it is too late to do anything. Before I know it my head lay on my desk. I keep telling myself that if I only close my eyes for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Peter Temple the Broken Shore Views and Values Essay THE BROKEN SHORE Peter Temple's acclaimed crime fiction novel 'The Broken Shore' chronicles the unfolding of a murder investigation on the rugged Victorian coastline through the eyes of a morally flexible small town cop. The novel showcases the complex social structures apparent in contemporary rural Victoria, particularly focusing on the often shaky relations between anglo and indigenous Australians. It also addresses the segregation between the have's and the have not's within society and the institutions that separate the social classes and explores the intricacies of the arguably broken Australian/Victorian legal system. Temple uses Joe Cashin, his lone–crusader type protagonist, to assert his view that the justice system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the commentary of characters like Cashin and Cecily Addison, who are both relative outsiders in Cromarty, Temple is able to convey a fictional first hand view of the insular society that holds in high esteem the likes of Charles Bourgoyne and Helen Castlemen, as they are moneyed, educated and challenge the stereotypical country hick labels that are often collectively placed on citizens residing in rural areas. Through the use of Cashin and Cecily, Temple is also able to construct an unbiased observation of how these same areas discriminate against the, often indigenous and/or low socio economic, down trodden members of society and ostracise them both physically, through the demarkation line that tells indigenous Australians where they can and cannot live, restricting them to the "Daunt settlement", and also intellectually, through the copious use of words like "coon" and "nigger" in regard to the "blackfellas". Surprisingly it is not only the bogan– esque beach bums who assert their politically incorrect and blatantly racist attitudes towards the indigenous residents. Members of the working class like Hopgood and his team for example also exhibit prejudice against the Aboriginals and contrary to the traditional 'innocent 'til proven guilty' notion it seems to be more of a 'guilty 'til proven innocent' situation when the young "coons" are suspected of robbing and murdering Bourgoyne. This is perhaps the product of how the parochialism of small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Research Paper On Myrtle Beach The Amazing Vacation Place My favorite vacation spot is Myrtle Beach. My first time going to this beach was when I was ten years old. My great aunt took me and my three girl cousins to Myrtle Beach for our girls' trip. It was one of the most fun and memorable times of my life. Since then the beach has become my favorite place to vacation with my family and friends. The beach became my preference soon as I laid eyes on it. At the beach the scenery is astonishing. The buildings are beautiful, the air is refreshing, the amusements parks are full of cheer and laughter, the food is delicious, and the ocean is just breathtaking. • 9. Descriptive Essay About Vacation In America As a child, the ocean charmed me. After glancing at the never ending shore line's going from coast to coast as far as the eye can see, I felt like a grain of sand on the beach. I never thought I could see anything else as immense and alluring. As I relaxed on a lawn chair soaking up the rays of sunshine in Alabama, my friends froze in Iowa from the early stages of spring still bitter from the past winter. During my family vacation in Alabama many memories were cemented into my mind as I soaked up the radiant sunshine on the blistering beachside chair. My eyes sluggishly peeled open as I rest on the edge of the slightly deflated air mattress prepared to conquer my first day on vacation. I slipped my feet onto the rough and gritty carpet as I hoisted myself from my deep slumber, feeling the sensation of all the dust still lodged between the micro carpet fibers. I heard the humming of the generator as it rang through the camper along with the cars on the highway zooming by in the distance. Gazing out the window I saw the glistening blood–orange sunrise that laid just above the horizon. I patiently awaited the sweltering heat wave that would take place in hours to come. Still half asleep, I hobbled to the sink at a turtle's pace to prepare myself for the journey ahead of me. After I staggered into my neon pink two piece I flung a flowy dress embroidered with patterns over my figure. Then I squeezed the toothpaste container until the last drop fell onto my toothbrush. • 10. Myrtle Beach Research Paper 4 Reasons Myrtle Beach is not Just for Retirement Many people have the notion that beach communities are simply areas for people to relocate to and enjoy their retirement. This however, simply isn't the case. Coastal cities are major centers for tourism, so they create attraction and provide activities for people of all ages. They cater to everyone and attract the greatest amount of tourists, not simply to those in the later years of life. Myrtle Beach is one such area that many perceive as just an area for retirement, but in all actuality it is so much more. It is a coastal community full of life and that has a variety of cultures to learn and explore. Still not convinced? Well below is a list of reasons why Myrtle Beach is not just for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People, especially when they are on vacation, like to let loose and party. So, with a large population of people like to have places to enjoy night activities, Myrtle Beach is not lacking in the night life experience. There is plenty of clubs and bars in the surrounding area to meet the tastes and needs of any individual who is looking for some nighttime fun. Choices for students A very obvious reason that Myrtle Beach isn't solely for retirement is because students have a variety of choices in the area. The community has a variety of schools to choose among, from private to public. There are two universities in the area as well as technical and trade schools. The elementary to high school even have glowing recommendations and some are known to specialize in specific fields. If Myrtle Beach was an area purely devoted to retirement purposes, then there wouldn't be such a broad choice in schools. Employment opportunities With a large tourism industry, there are a lot of jobs to be fulfilled in Myrtle Beach. Those in retirement aren't going to fill them, so it stands to reason that there are plenty of individuals living in the area that are still in the mist of their career days. If jobs are available, then it is almost certain there will be a willing workforce living within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The beach Once you reach the island, you will be treated to a stretch of beach that extends almost three spectacular miles. You can do just about anything your heart desires on this beach. If you visit the beach between March and October, you will also get to see leatherback, green, and loggerhead sea turtles, as they use this area as a nesting ground. If you crave a bit more activity, you can head to the water where you can surf, snorkel, or SCUBA dive. If all of that seems like too much activity for you, you can grab a towel, catch some rays, and watch the other people on the beach. • 12. Artificial Reef Case Study After evaluating the two suggested proposals against the main criteria of social/ political, economic and environmental it was concluded that proposal B, to construct the artificial reef – is the most suitable option to implement at Palm Beach to ensure both short and long term health and sustainability of the beach. Even though the artificial reef had some negatives, they were outweighed by the environmental, social and long–term economic advantages. The artificial reef is an earth–cantered system which can be implemented as an environmentally form of economic growth, and it is a sustainable use of resources which will ensure that Palm Beach is maintained and in good condition for future generations, therefore it is a bio–centric environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, since the destructive waves break on the reef then only the low energy, constructive waves reach the shore which makes deposition possible therefore the beach will have the chance to naturally build up sand and widen. Even though the beach nourishment program is already established so there are no initial costs required and the artificial reef has high construction costs, around $16.9 million to be implemented, the reef has very low maintenance costs (to ensure it is working effectively) this is minute in comparison of the ongoing costs of the beach nourishment program. However, with the artificial reef there may be the need to implement another program or to continue the beach nourishment program to support it. Yet, even though there are extremely high initial costs, the artificial reef would increase tourism and support local businesses, which outweighs and justifies the large cost as in the long term it will be economically beneficial. Also, it is aesthetically pleasing, attracts diverse marine life, improves surf quality and recreational amenity so it will attract tourists and will take pressure off the natural reefs whilst aiding to stabilise the beach. Overall, the implementation of an artificial reef would be effective coastal management strategy as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Salton Beach Research Paper In the 1950s and '60s, Bombay Beach in California was a thriving resort. Guests swam, water–skied, and golfed during the day, then headed to the yacht club to party at the end of the night. Now, Bombay Beach is a faded, rusted, abandoned wasteland. The water smells like salt, gas, and rotting dead fish. The shores lined with sunbathers before, and now they are covered in green sludge and dried fish remains. To understand how this place turned from paradise to agony, you need to know the story of the Salton Sea. Bombay Beach doesn't lie on the west coast, but in the Colorado Desert. In 1905, the Colorado River swelled, penetrated its walls, and flooded the desert valley known as the Salton Sink. The water flowed for two years, then creating a 15 by 35 mile lake named the Salton Sea. The creation of this internal sea was an accident; it was initially emerged to deliver great benefits. Birds flocked to the area, and fish bloomed in the Salton Sea. Developers held the rare setting and selected it the "Salton Riviera," or a "miracle in the desert." Hotels, yacht clubs, homes, and schools sprang up by the shores, as the Salton Sea became a resort destination and a great place to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stabilization methods of shoreline range from planting dune grass, to large seawalls using bulldozers or cranes. These methods are short term. Erosion of beaches caused by human may be greater than nature causing. Replenishing of beaches may consist of pumping sand back out onto the beach, or building back up sand dunes. This would result in not enough money to replenish the beach. Only the upper part of the beach would be covered with new sand. This would create a steep beach. On the opposite, the high energy waves create coastal cliffs from wave erosion, and when coastal cliffs are formed, waves will break and release a great deal of energy. The crew knows that, over time, they will grow weaker and things will get worse, not better. Thoughts of drowning run rampant in every man's mind on that boat. At dawn, the men decided that their only chance is to row toward the distant shore again and swim when the boat finally capsizes. On the Captain's order, the oiler rows the boat directly toward the shore. The boat capsizes and the people on the boat are so weak that it is hard for them to even keep their heads above water. Mrs. Shore's classroom management style is one that is very similar to what I had discussed in my reports over the length of this class. She uses a fun, energetic environment, while at the same time clearly depicting expectations about student behavior. She explained to me that she believes talking with students and gaining an understanding about what type of environment works best for them, and then molding numerous styles together. When discussing discipline issues, she notified me that her most difficult challenge is deciding when to punish a student. Mrs. Shore explained that it is vital to be invested in students and know when grace needs to be given, and when discipline actions need to be taken because students can be adversely affected by their home lives and many other factors. She continued to explain that multiple factors should be taken into account before deciding if a student truly deserves to be punished. Another thing that I enjoy about Mrs. Shore is her classroom environment. When walking into Mrs. Shores classroom students are not greeted with desk, but rather a variety of table styles and around the tables students will find large rolling desk chairs. The setup of Mrs. Shores class is what stood out to me the most. The beaches of South Carolina are a prized quality and possession to the state and its people as it provides beauty, enjoyment and the economic benefits of tourism year round. Due to storms, natural processes of sand movement and development, the beaches of South Carolina, specifically the Grand Strand beaches and local beaches of Sullivan's Island and Folly Beach, are eroding at a rapid rate. Erosion is a natural process effected by sea level rise, storms and currents and many techniques have been used in the past to combat erosion issues that threaten to wash away beaches and homes in the process. Sea level rise is also a significant factor of erosion because as the sea level has risen over time, beaches and barrier islands have moved, transporting sand in the process. Sea level rise is a long– term process of coastal transformation as sand is steadily removed from beaches and barrier islands and transported to other areas, creating less protection for beaches and estuaries. As sea level rise continues to increase along the South Carolina coast, erosion by coastal flooding will become an even greater problem (United States 1.1). One study on the correlation between sea level rise and erosion concluded that sea level rise does increase erosion rates if nothing else due to the fact that "rising sea level enables high–energy waves to reach farther up the beach and redistribute sand offshore" (Leatherman 55). Human activity through construction also has a negative effect on beaches and erosion, for example the building of structures such as seawalls, jetties and groins have negatively effected the movement of sand, thus not allowing the proper amount of sand to reach the beaches and barrier islands to replace the moving sand due to other factors (United States 1.1). This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There's no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That's the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine."
