Effects Of Cancer On The United States And Across The Globe
1. Introduction and Problem Statement: Cancer has a major societal impact in the United States and across the globe. In 2015, an estimated
1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in United States, and 589,430 people are estimated to die of the disease. Unfortunately, low cancer
cell availability in human samples is a current barrier for early disease detection. There is an unmet medical need to improve methods of early cancer
detection so that patients can receive treatment before cancer metastasizes to other areas of the body, resulting in better health outcomes. Several
studies have explained the influence of the nanoscale topography such as nanosurface and structure in cell capture, growth, adhesion, and orientation.
Every cell type has a characteristic profile based on its mechano–physical properties [1]. Cancer cells show higher translocation times and peak
amplitudes compared with blood cells, and their pulse shapes are distinctively different. Ion Selective Field Effect Transistors (ISFETs) have a huge
advantage over traditional ion selective electrodes (ISEs) in that they avoid the high impedance by signal amplification. ISFETs generate low
impedance signals and consume low power levels because of the transistor properties. Because of their small size, ISFETs can be miniature diagnosis
devices, allowing low sample consumption combined with a rapid response. ISFETs make the selective detection of certain ions in complex samples
more efficient and can open

Bipolar Disorder : Is It Treated?
When we hear the word, bipolar disorder we think of " ticking time bomb," desperation crying, severe mood swings and a more popular word "cray
cray." Unfortunately much of what people know or think they may know about bipolar disorder in not at all accurate. It's very easy to absorb a
bipolar disorder misconception, especially when they display extremes behaviors portrayed on TV and in movies. It's very important to learn and
understand facts on. What is Bipolar? What are the Symptoms? How is it treated? Is there a cure for this illness? There are some myths and some
truth about this disorder. Bipolar disorder also known in some parts of the world by its older name "maniacs' depression." It's a mental disorder that is

External environment and psychological factors are believed to be involved and these external factors are called triggers. Some causes of bipolar
depression are stress, substance abuse, medication, seasonal change, and sleep deprivation. Bipolar disorders has its highs and lows and sometimes
can be simply mis diagnosed as having depression by the patient, relatives, friends, and even physician. It wasn't that long ago when bipolar disorder
was confused with other disorders such as unipolar depression or schizophrenia. Doctors have come along way in fully understanding different moods in
this disorder and making an accurate diagnosis. With great understanding of this mental disorder, doctors can now identify the signs and symptom. The
symptoms vary widely in their pattern, severity, and frequency. Some people are prone to eithermania or depression, while others alternate equally
between two episodes. They are four types of mood episodes in bipolar disorders mania, hypomania, depression, and mixed episodes. Each type of
bipolar disorder mood episode has a unique set of symptoms. Some of the symptoms are:
Talk a mile a minute
Heightened energy
Sleep very little and hyperactive
Very aggressive, lashing out
Delusional and start to hear things
Obsessive worry, thought, and feeling
feeling helpless, hopeless, and worthless
Thoughts of death and suicide

Summary Of 'A Northbound Path' By Manny Fernandezs
In Manny Fernandez's article "A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies" he makes the argument that migrants trying to cross the
border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that
this is unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he offers a lot of evidence that is very
descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very
important to an author's argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that evidence comes with a story that the reader can relate to it

Being promoted to the Bureau Chief is a big deal and proves that Fernandez has been a reliable worker and reporter and is outstanding at what he
does. Fernandez's argument has a lot of strong evidence. For example, he shares stories about different "cases numbers" and the belongings that these
people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department
is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's Department.
This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds. Since these are real people that Fernandez is
talking about, the reader gets the chance to empathize with them. "In just one county, the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been
found since 2009," Fernandez says in his article. He does not directly cite where this information came from, but an article published by Think Progress
( https://thinkprogress.org/texas–walmart–deaths–3d57eaf43279/ ) confirms this statistic. According to this article, roughly 500 migrants have been
recovered along the Texas border since 2009 which supports the evidence that Fernandez gives in his article. Later in Fernandez's article, he mentions

Dr. Ketchum Processed All The Samples
There is also a misconception that Dr. Ketchum processed all the samples in her facility. This is not true. Dr. Ketchum realized with the
groundbreaking implications of this study blind testing was a must. She contracted the services of the following laboratories to perform blind testing
on the samples and return the results. This means some of the laboratories had no idea what they were testing. The laboratories were given the samples

The DNA Samples
The screening and handling of the hair, blood, saliva, and flesh samples.
Screening the hair
Before the hair was considered for testing it was first screened to ensure it was not human or any other known animal. The following is the
documentation from the DNA Study of how the hair was screened.
Hair Analysis:
From the DNA Study: Hair samples were sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences (Dallas, TX) for analysis. (Mr. David Spence) The
samples were evaluated visually, stereoscopically, and by light microscopy to determine human or animal origin. Hairs that were classified as potential
novel hominid were also evaluated for DNA typing potential by examining for root material. Only hairs that were not human in appearance and could
not be identified as any other species were utilized in this study.
The hairs were examined for a variety of microscopic features such as: medulla, pigmentation, cortical fusi, ovoid bodies, cuticle, and root and tip
characteristics. The hair cuticle patterns of

Football Concussions: A Case Study
Concussions have plagued NFL ever since football was invented. There have been 29 concussions in 2015 and the number may continue to grow.
Munro Cullum, a professor of psychiatry and neurology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and his colleagues reported that having a
concussion can have long lasting effects. 28 former football players were studied and 8 of those were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment; they
had some deficits in memory. While having the best equipments can increase the amount of damage sustained, there will always be a chance of
concussion because brain floats in the cerebrospinal fluid in our skull and when there's an impact, the brain hits the skull causing cell damage. Best

Texas Concussions
AUSTIN, Texas – This week, Texas will launch what state officials say is the nation's largest effort to track brain injuries among young athletes.
The University Interscholastic League, Texas' governing body for public high school sports, is partnering with the O'Donnell Brain Institute at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for the project, from which they hope to gauge whether rules or equipment changes are improving
player safety and what more can be done to protect athletes.
A state as large as Texas, which has more than 800,000 publichigh school athletes, would be a key step in developing a national database of brain
injuries in youths, officials say. Already, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other states have researched head injuries, too.
In Michigan, which requires schools to report concussions, a recent concussion study showed 755 schools reported 4,452 head injuries in the
2015–2016 school year. Football had the most – 1,907 – and girls basketball ranked No. 2 with 454.
It tracked details such as whether the injury occurred in practice or a game, whether athletes had to miss class and how long it took them to return to
competition. That research is being shared with Michigan State University's Institute for the Study of Youth Sports.
The Texas study will collect more concussion data than it has before, University Interscholastic League deputy director Jamey Harrison said. Currently,
Texas requires only one school from each district report concussions as part of a weekly injury reporting system, though each school in the football
playoffs is required to report concussions.
"Right now it's a sample that is just a snapshot. It's not scientific," Harrison said. "We need to move beyond

prescriptions, teach patients how to safely use the pills and warn them of potential side effects ("Summary"). I chose this career for many reasons. I
chose this because it is a very interesting career to me and I would love to help people get better and recover from their abnormalities, whether it be
the flu or a broken bone. One more thing that really grabbed my attention and helped me lean more towards this career is how much they can get paid

Unappropriate Tv Shows for Children
Unappropriate Television Shows Abstract Children are being influenced by television shows on a daily basis. Some children are watching
inappropriate television shows such as SpongeBob, Fish Hooks, Family Guy, South Park, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Scooby–Doo, Boondocks and etc. These
shows can affect children as they grow up in many ways such as using profanity, violent and aggressive behavior, poor school performance and watch
too much television may cause a slight obesity. There are many educational television shows that are best for child to watch such as Barney, Blue's

How is there such a big impact on them just because of watching television? Television can affect learning and school performance if it interferes
with the time kids need for activities crucial to healthy mental and physical development. Some shows (SpongeBob) teaches that it is fine to
commit an inappropriate action because there will not be a punishment and kids feel that if they do the same thing as their favorite character from
the program who committed the crime they will be a hero. Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in children:
increase fear, desensitization to real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It may desensitve kids so much they think it is okay and no big
deal for somebody to be hit or to hit someone in the head with a hammer. Kids who view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior,
but also fear that the world is scary and that everyday something bad will happen. Scary–looking things like grotesque monsters especially frighten
children aged two to seven. Telling them that the images aren't real does not help because kids under age eight can't always tell the difference
between fantasy and reality (Television and Children). When watching a television shows usually every episode has a bad situation or a lot of drama
in it so kids will start to have that mind frame that things will happen to them just like on the show. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)

However, complementary medicines may work alongside traditional medications. Some examples of CAM are acupuncture, diet, yoga, meditation, and
physical activities such as sports, hiking, and running. Complementary and alternative medicine is increasing in popularity because it can be more
beneficial for the patient and their health. Also, using CAM as a way to treat certain illnesses can be much less expensive than investing in
antidepressants or other forms of medication. Overall, CAM is a healthy and beneficial method to help alleviate depression and other similar health
conditions. Physical activities such as yoga, exercise, sports, and nature and outdoors activities affect victims of depression in a positive way and can
improve their mental health.
To begin, yoga is a highly recommended activity to help reduce depression. Yoga is a mixture of meditation, stretching, and breathing techniques that
helps to clear the mind and focuses on positive energy within an individual. In the journal, Issues in Mental Health Nursing, Lila Louie, a nurse from

Background: Impaired cognitive performance occurs in children with multiple sclerosis (MS). In adults, cognitive impairment (CI) is seen at the
time of first attack suggesting a prodrome of disease progression prior to first onset of physical disability. Children who develop multiple sclerosis
also have CI at time of diagnosis suggesting that actual disease onset occurs prior to manifestation of physical symptoms. It has not been reported
whether children who go on to develop a clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis are delayed in acquiring early developmental milestones.
Objective: To determine whether children with early onset MS are delayed in attaining early developmental milestones and whether children with MS
diagnosis prior to the age of 11 years are more likely to need special education services.
Methods: Pediatric–onset MS and cases and controls less than 18 years of age from 14 pediatric MS centers in the United States were studied. A
questionnaire on environmental and genetic influences was completed by family members, capturing information on demographic and developmental
history. Data on time of first walking unaided and acquisition of two word phrases were captured on MS and control groups. The need for special
education services was captured in MS subjects only.
Results: A total of 467 cases and 428 controls were enrolled. Patients with early onset MS prior to age 18 were not delayed in walking or using two
word phrases compared to healthy controls.

Negative Discrimination Of Tattoos
45 million American have at least one tattoo, says a survey conducted in 2016 by Statistic Brain ("Tattoo Statistics"). That's 45 million people who face
discrimination every day because they made a choice about what they wanted to do to their own body. There are many negative connotations affiliated
with tattoos. Some people associate tattoos with gangs or other violent organizations, while others believe that having a tattoo makes you uneducated
and a delinquent. Whatever the case is tattoos have a bad reputation in America. However people with tattoos should be treated with the same respect
and should be able to have the same opportunities as their peers. Having tattoos gives you less options for work and other career aspirations. Many
employers will not hire people with body art, in fact a study showed that 58 percent of employers said that they would be "less likely to hire an

Essay On Magnetic Field
Summer of 2017 saw UT Southwestern Medical Center make considerable strides in biotech with the development of high–frequency alternating
magnetic fields to destroy bacterial films on the surfaces of artificial joints in the body simply by heating the joints themselves. These bacterial
infections tend to be of great detriment to patients, and they prove impeccably resilient to antibiotics. Since then, that same research has been furthered
to prove itself on human test subjects. Now, the U.S. Energy Department illustrates the ability to see bacterial cells' magnetic fields via electron

"When we look at samples prepared in the conventional way, we have to make many assumptions about their properties based on their final state, but
with the new technique, we can now observe these processes first–hand," Prozorov explains. "It can help us understand the dynamics of macromolecule
aggregation, nanoparticle self–assembly, and the effects of electric and magnetic fields on that process." This bears significant implications for
biotechnological applications, especially in light of recent research regarding the use of magnetic heating to eradicate bacteria from surfaces within the
human body.
People get metal parts implanted all the time to compensate for injuries or very old body parts. These pieces range from metal plates to pins to
artificial joints, but they all serve relatively similar purposes–holding bones together. The problem that comes from this from time to time is that
bacteria inside a patient's body eventually find these metal surfaces and seek refuge on or in them. Ordinarily, physicians recommend surgery to get rid
of those bacteria, but new research suggests that surgery may no longer be necessary; rather, it may be possible to get the same result with the
non–invasive alternative of magnetic heating.
These bacteria can be very difficult to remove because they form biofilms–thin sheets that form a viscous, protective membrane of sorts like plaque on
enamel. Even though this only happens to

The Effects Of Concussions On Nfl Players Essay
Preventing Concussions in NFL Players While the NFL is currently a very entertaining and popular American past time, there is one issue that threatens
the future of the game–concussions. Concussions affect 1.6 to 3.8 million athletes and children annually in the United States. Among athletes, football
is the most common sport involving risks of concussions for males, and soccer is the most common sports with concussion risks for females. The NFL
has admitted that brain trauma effects a third of all NFL players (Knowles.) Concussions have been part of the game since the very beginning, but it
's only in the past 50 years or so that medical science and the public has become aware of the serious long term effects of concussions. The NFL is
spending money on researching the problem, because they have been sued from hundreds of players that have suffered long–term damage from
concussions. The NFL needs to dedicate more money and research into increasing helmet safety, implementing rules and policies to protect players,
and utilizing the best response treatment to prevent and protect players from concussions. Primarily, a concussion is an injury to the brain, caused
by a hit or fall. Sometimes a person will have visible bruises, but sometimes there are no visible signs of a brain injury. A person does not have to lose
consciousness to have a concussion. Some people recover in a few hours, while others will take weeks to recover. Symptoms include loss of

Benefits Of Being A Radiologist
A radiologist is someone who looks at medical images (such as X–Rays, Computerized Tomography scans, ultrasounds, and Magnetic Resonance
Imaging) and uses it to detect medical problems. Some of the duties that radiologists perform include: diagnosing illnesses and treating patients
using medical radiation. A radiologist can work at a public or private hospital or set up their own clinic. Working conditions for a radiologist who
is employed at a hospital will not differ much from a clinic. You will not have to work not shifts or weekends just like a clinic. Residents usually
take care of those shifts. Some of the skills that are essential for becoming a radiologist include being good following directions, taking the time to
be precise in your measurements and having good communication skills. I am really good at following directions as I am always scared of the
outcome of messing up. I also take the time to measure things out very carefully unless I am positive that tweaking things a little bit might result in
a better outcome. I do have good communication skills when I am talking directly to a person in front of me but when I am writing an email I don't
seem to describe things in as much detail as I should. One of the ways to work on this is to ask myself the five W's (Who, What, When, Where,
Why) when writing my email to someone. To become a radiologist one of the first steps that you must take is to attend college and obtain a bachelor
degree in biology or physics. After

Depression And Its Effects On Depression
Depression is a psychoneurotic disorder characterized by lingering sadness, inactivity, and difficulty in thinking and concentration. Depression is one of
the most common psychiatric conditions encountered ("Depression"). Doctors have all types of antidepressants that have been used worldwide for
patients with depression. Introduced in the late 1950's, antidepressants were used to accomplish their task by inhibiting the body's reabsorption of these
neurotransmitters, thus allowing them to accumulate and remain in contact longer with their receptors in nerve cells. Neurotransmitters are a chemical
substance that is released at the end of a nerve fiber by the arrival of a nerve impulse and, by diffusing across the synapse or junction, causes the
transfer of the impulse to another nerve fiber, a muscle fiber, or some other structure. These changes are important in elevating mood and relieving
depression ("Depression"1). But what if we don't need antidepressants or any other drug? What if exercise could help fight depression naturally
without side effects? One in 10 adults in the United States struggles with depression, and antidepressant medications are a common way to treat the
condition. "We use antidepressants too easily for too long, and that they are effective for a few people, if at all". Glasgow physician Dr. Despence.

Journal Article Comparison: Different Audiences
Journal article comparison: Different audiences
In my field of biology, the prospective audience for a piece of writing will substantially affect the way an article is presented. A biology article can be
directed at a lay audience (such as an article on a new type of treatment or medicine for a popular magazine) or be highly technical and directed
towards an audience of researchers in a peer–reviewed journal. In most cases, there are multiple types of audiences primary and secondary, as well as
the 'gatekeeper' who approves the article and the larger 'watchdog' audience screening the article post–publication (Locker & Kaczmarek21). This
multiplicity of audiences is perhaps most starkly evident in biology publications pertaining to nutrition.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is primarily directed to an audience of biology professionals in the field who specifically focus on
nutrition. It also has a subset of primary audience readers who are clinical nutritionists, public policy makers, and professionals in the field of nutrition
(like sports physiologists). There is also a larger 'watchdog' group of the media and various professional dietary–related agencies who frequently read
the publication and screen for bias. Finally, even if the public does not generally read this publication, a lay audience often reads summaries of research
findings, given its relevant to everyday lives.
The multifaceted nature of the audience of the Journal can be clearly seen in a 2013

Short Essay On Dementia
Contrary to public belief, dementia is not one specific disease rather a range of symptoms that are associated with cognitive decline and a reduction in
a person's ability to remain active and independent. There was a time when dementia was referred to as "senility" or having "senior moments," but
these monikers suggest that dementia is a normal part of aging, and this concept simply isn't accurate.
Alzheimer's disease accounts for up to 80% of all dementia cases closely followed by vascular dementia, which typically occurs after a stroke.
Dementia may also be caused by vitamin deficiencies and thyroid problems. These last two types are reversible in nature.

It's important to mention that brain health can also be impacted by frequent blood sugar spikes. For this reason a diet low in sugar, especially
processed sugars and refined flours, is important to maintain proper glucose levels.
And finally, some good news for coffee lovers, caffeine has been found to be effective in preventing Alzheimer's disease. This does not mean you need
to consume cups and cups of it every day. Just one two to cups will bring benefits.
Keep Learning
You know the old phrase "use it or lose it," well this applies to your brain as well. It's incredibly important to keep your brain active as you age.
Consider learning a new language or how to play a new instrument, read more, do the crossword puzzle, or play computer games. Heck, try to write

CTE basically make the cells spit out a protein that can spill out due to blunt force trauma this protein can disable neural pathways that controls things
such as memory or judgement.
According to research published by Boston University 87 out of 91 former NFL players tested positive for CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
those 87 had suffered at least 3 concussions during their career.

Taking a Look at Bullying
Bullying Bullying in schools was perceived to be a normal part of adolescent, however, when people begin to have this mentality, they forget that
bullying is physically and psychologically harmful to both the bully and the victim. Bullying was known as an unfortunate cycle of adolescents and
for many years have been dismissed as a passage of growing up. But not until tragic events have led to believe that bullying has a greater impact on a
child's life what first were playful jokes it has led to traumatic experience and at some cases death. According to John Cloud a writer of the Times
magazine a 17–year–old named T.J. Lane was supposedly seen in a high school outside of Cleveland with a gun. The crime scene was Chardon High
School cafeteria where it was reported that Lane fired 10 shots. According to report five students were hit and three were dead. Leaving people asking
what would prompt a 17 year–old to do such a malicious crime. The answer may lie in T.J's childhood. Lane looked like a friendly guy who had a
great social life and who even had a ton of friends on his social media accounts. But behind the lovable personality lied the hardship of his childhood.
Both of his parents were arrested for domestic violence, this forced Lane to live with his grandparents. It is unfortunate that T.J. could not find people
that could help him with his situation and now he will pay for his actions. But there is another extreme to this bullying crisis, according to Deborah

Food Inseecurity And Marginal Food Security In The United...
By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an
active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory & Coleman–Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In
contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low availability of money and other resources. This issue
is also affecting many people today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade,
Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of
those who face low food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. As previously stated, those who are food secure have plentiful necessities of
food and do not have any stress of their next meal. These people are characterized by high food security. A recent sample study of 7,802 people
conducted this year back in May, found that 57.7% of adults in America were food secure (Leung, Tester, and Laraia, 2017, 730). Marginal food
security is a step lower than those who are labeled with high food security, but this type is not classified as severity. Marginal food security involves
homes who sometimes reach anxiety about not having enough food in the house, but the quality, variety, and quantity of their food intake are not
lowered (Gregory &

Romans In Context
The purpose behind this paper is to offer a brief review on a book called "Reading Romans in Context: Paul and Second Temple Judaism" . This
review will focus on four major components, first being the editor's information. The editor's information will cover education, any positions they hold
today, and whatever scholarship information that is currently available. The second thing that will be reviewed will be a concise summary of the
major theme of the book followed by the third, an honest and courteous evaluation of the book. The fourth thing that will be added is a bibliography at
the end of the paper for reference of the book.
One of the first editors on the book's list is Benjamin Blackwell, PhD. He currently holds a position at the Houston Baptist University where he is in the
Department of Theology and School of Christian Thought. It is in these departments where he helps to teach students with the primary focus of the
New Testament and in Theology. In these classes, he particularly likes to specialize in helping the students to understand how Christians from different
time periods read the Bible differently and what the importance of the Bible is in both ancient and modern contexts. Dr. Blackwell's educational
background ties well into both his current positions and in his editing practices. His educational background consists of many degrees, starting with a

Pro–Long Hours. Big Benefits.
A growing trend noticeably increasing in the medical field is plastic surgeon–the practice of restoring or enhancing the physical appearance of the body.
This job requires the right personality and techniques from a doctor but is overall rewarding and something to aspire to. The correct information and
the insight from an elite surgeon working in today's medical environment can emit inspiration for those wanting to be involved in this field.
History
Even though plastic surgery is most popular in today's society, the idea that the practice goes as far back as 3400 B.C., is often misconstrued. It is
believed that ancient Egyptians were the first to preform plastic surgery for reconstructive purposes. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Job description
Plastic surgery is split up into two different categories: reconstructive and cosmetic. Reconstructive surgery is repairing the body due to injury, disease,
or birth defect (facial fractures, tumors, cleft palates, burns etc.). Cosmetic surgery is classified as enhancing a person physical appearance
according to their desired look (facelifts, nose jobs, tummy tucks and so on). A plastic surgeon can chose to reduce their practice to one of these
categories or specialize in one certain area of the body, however each doctor must be trained in working with every type of body tissue; skin,
muscle, fat, and nerve tissues (Biologist). This job includes rewards such as helping people look their best and knowing that the final product can
make a person feel better about themself and also improve their lives all because of the work you were able to do. However, working as a plastic
surgeon has several negative aspects. Often, doctors are forced to deal with very traumatic situations–such as an accident or birth defect– and know
way to find the solution (Biologist). But that's all a part of being given the opportunity to make each situation better and save a patient's life.
A plastic surgeon can choose to work under three different conditions: private practice, group practice, or within a hospital department. A private
practice includes a surgeon who hires their own staff and works either in

In this paper I will highlight one of the governors of Texas. Dolph Briscoe was the governor of Texas from 1973 to 1979. Not only was he a
governor, he was also one of the largest individual land owners in Texas history. This in a state known for huge ranches. His philanthropy has provided
support to a wide range of educational, medical, scientific, and cultural institutions. In this paper I hope to provide a little insight in to how much this
man has impacted the evolution of Texas. Dolph Briscoe Jr. was born in Uvalde, Texas in 1923. He was the son of a self–made cattle rancher and a
direct descendant of Andrew Briscoe. Andrew Briscoe was one of the original signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Briscoe graduated...

he was defeated in the primary by Attorney General John Hill. Dolph Briscoe and his family returned to Uvalde where they remained active in

Essay on Terrorism and the Economy
Many investigations and research have been done in an effort to discover and defend against terrorism. Through my research I have discovered a
plethora of literature that confirms this notion. This review will focus primarily on two different aspects that work coherently to frame the big picture
of our nation's Achilles' heel, better known as the southwestern border. These two aspects are: Muslim extremist targeted recruits and how theUnited
States economy is intertwined. The selection of literature that I have compiled is contextually different, because they are used for various other
reasons. My purpose here is to extrapolate pertinent findings and utilize them to reinforce the importance of managing our southwestern border and the

As a nation it is essential that we use what we gather and combine with what we have already learned from history to grow.
You may wonder, "How can Middle Eastern terrorist organizations use the ease of access of the southwestern U.S. border to launch a major,
successful attack?" Before considering Al Qaeda's operational tactics, it is equally important to take a look at recruiting methods and targets. I will
analyze "Targeting the Poor: How Al–Qaeda Would Recruit from Latin America" by Freddy Paniagua. "The U.S. Department of State and experts on
terrorism have suggested that the poor are a potential source of recruits for political and Islamic fundamentalist terrorist organizations" (Paniagua
2006, 1). In this publication, Paniagua uses Bayat's classification to explain the dynamics of the poor of Latin America. Paniagua shows how Bayat
argues that the passive poor will typically be content with their way of life and continue to struggle to survive. The political poor utilize the political
process to their perceived advantage by voting for the party they fell is able to alleviate the burdens of poverty. Regarding the resisting poor, they
typically strive for the opposition of the political and social system. The resisting poor may even resort to radical behavior to remove the current
powers. The current situation in Syria is a great example of the resisting poor. Lastly, the surviving poor who resort to

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer
Cancer is a disease that is caused when abnormal cells in the human body begin to divide uncontrollably. These abnormal, uncontrolled cells can then
spread further into surrounding tissues, effectively harming them. Cancer is genetic, meaning there is a gene coded for this disease present that can be
passed down through family. This does not mean, though, that one will be diagnosed with this disease if a family member had it and although it can be
treated, cancer has the ability to return. When treating and examining this disease, stages and grading are taken into consideration. These stages go
from 1 to 4. 1 being localised cancer (least dangerous) and 4 being largely expanded cancer (most dangerous). Today, more than 200 types of cancer
are known to exist, and the one most commonly found in the U.S.A is skin cancer. In fact, it has been reported that 1 out of every 5 Americans will
develop a form of skin cancer throughout their lifetime. Skin cancer, too, has many different types, and the most seen are: basal cell carcinoma,
squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma –– which is more dangerous, but not as common as the other two.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal cell carcinoma is also known as BCC and is the most common yet least risky type of skin cancer there is. This type of skin cancer gets its
name from where it begins: the basal cells, which are in charge of producing new skin cells as the elder ones continue to die off. Even though BCC
can happen to anyone, it

Marijuana Should Be Legal For Medical Benefits Essay
In today's society, marijuana is utilized by many adults and even teenagers. Whether the reason for the use is for medical reasons, obtain a high, for
socializing, escaping depression; marijuana has impacted many live for the better. Marijuana or cannabis has been known to man since as early as
7000 B.C. In 1619, the colony of Jamestown in Virginia passed the firstcannabis–related law, stating that it is required for all farmers to grow
cannabis sativa or hemp plant because of its strong fiber that where being used to make sails, ropes and even clothing. During the 1800s, cannabis
extract medicines were produced by American pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly, Parke–Davis and Squibb. In 1910, in the Southwestern
United States, Mexican immigrants introduced recreational use of cannabis, in which the immigrants referred to as "marihuana" (Mark, 2015)
Anti–legalization groups argue there is not enough scientific data to support marijuana's medical benefits. According to Whitehouse.gov (original
emphasis), "To date...neither the FDA nor the Institute of Medicine have found smoked marijuana to meet the modern standard for safe or effective
medicine for any condition." It's highly unlikely that anyone will be able to prove the substance is entirely safe, because (let's be honest), it's not. As
with all drugs, there is an associated risk that comes along with any benefits the drug may have. It's just like on those prescription drugs, when you hear

Hunting and Trapping Bobcats in New Hampshire

Essay on Linking Eating Disorders With Genetics
While Bulimia is known by many names, the term "bulimia" did not enter the English language until the 1970s, "perhaps representing lingering
uncertainty about its essence" (Gordon, 2000). Bulimia, as we know it, is a modern disease, however, there is some evidence of binging and purging
in ancient times; for example, in ancient Egypt, "physicians would recommend periodical purgation as a health practice" (Gordon, 2000). There has
also been documentation of wealthy families in the middle ages vomiting during meals in order to continue eating large amounts of food. At this point,
you may be wondering why these examples are not considered Bulimia Nervosa. According to Dr. Richard Allan Gordon, author of Eating Disorders:
Anatomy of a Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is now defined as "Recurring episodes of eating significantly more food in a short period of time than most people would eat under similar
circumstances, with episodes marked by feelings of lack of control.... The person may have feelings of guilt, embarrassment, or disgust and may binge
eat alone to hide the behavior". It is important to note that there is a difference between over–eating and binge–eating, while over–eating is a
recognizable problem for many people, "binge–eating is much less common, far more severe, and associated with significant physiological and
psychological problems" (DSM 5). Binge Eating Disorder is similar to Bulimia Nervosa in that we see episodes of eating large amounts of food, the
difference being that there is no purging after the binging episode. It is seen highly among obese patients, but, perhaps due to a reluctance to relate
obesity with an eating disorder, it was not recognized as distinct from Bulimia Nervosa until the early 1990s (Gordon, 2000). Some of the first
documented cases of Anorexia Nervosa were religious in origin. As early as the 12th century we saw women, particularly in Western Christianity,
known as "Miracle Maidens" who were highly esteemed for their self–control, their "holy anorexia" was thought of as a gift from God. Some scholars
have stated "the intense relationship

Effects Of Cancer On The United States And Across The Globe

  • 1. Effects Of Cancer On The United States And Across The Globe 1. Introduction and Problem Statement: Cancer has a major societal impact in the United States and across the globe. In 2015, an estimated 1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in United States, and 589,430 people are estimated to die of the disease. Unfortunately, low cancer cell availability in human samples is a current barrier for early disease detection. There is an unmet medical need to improve methods of early cancer detection so that patients can receive treatment before cancer metastasizes to other areas of the body, resulting in better health outcomes. Several studies have explained the influence of the nanoscale topography such as nanosurface and structure in cell capture, growth, adhesion, and orientation. Every cell type has a characteristic profile based on its mechano–physical properties [1]. Cancer cells show higher translocation times and peak amplitudes compared with blood cells, and their pulse shapes are distinctively different. Ion Selective Field Effect Transistors (ISFETs) have a huge advantage over traditional ion selective electrodes (ISEs) in that they avoid the high impedance by signal amplification. ISFETs generate low impedance signals and consume low power levels because of the transistor properties. Because of their small size, ISFETs can be miniature diagnosis devices, allowing low sample consumption combined with a rapid response. ISFETs make the selective detection of certain ions in complex samples more efficient and can open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Summary Of 'A Northbound Path' By Manny Fernandezs In Manny Fernandez's article "A Northbound Path, Marked by More and More Bodies" he makes the argument that migrants trying to cross the border and dying on their way over is a humanitarian crisis. He mentions that the people who died are given case numbers and not a name and that this is unfair. Fernandez's argument is good, but it is also a little bit indifferent. His argument is strong because he offers a lot of evidence that is very descriptive and credible and some of his evidence is something that the reader can relate to. Having accurate evidence from a credible source is very important to an author's argument because it gives the argument support and reliability. If that evidence comes with a story that the reader can relate to it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being promoted to the Bureau Chief is a big deal and proves that Fernandez has been a reliable worker and reporter and is outstanding at what he does. Fernandez's argument has a lot of strong evidence. For example, he shares stories about different "cases numbers" and the belongings that these people had with them. These stories are reliable because they come from the Brooks County Sherriff's Department in Texas. The Sherriff's Department is a reliable, legitimate source. We know that the stories are true because Fernandez gives real case numbers that came from this Sherriff's Department. This evidence is extremely effective because it is true stories that the reader can picture in their minds. Since these are real people that Fernandez is talking about, the reader gets the chance to empathize with them. "In just one county, the bodies and remains of more than 500 migrants have been found since 2009," Fernandez says in his article. He does not directly cite where this information came from, but an article published by Think Progress ( https://thinkprogress.org/texas–walmart–deaths–3d57eaf43279/ ) confirms this statistic. According to this article, roughly 500 migrants have been recovered along the Texas border since 2009 which supports the evidence that Fernandez gives in his article. In Michigan, which requires schools to report concussions, a recent concussion study showed 755 schools reported 4,452 head injuries in the 2015–2016 school year. Football had the most – 1,907 – and girls basketball ranked No. 2 with 454. It tracked details such as whether the injury occurred in practice or a game, whether athletes had to miss class and how long it took them to return to competition. That research is being shared with Michigan State University's Institute for the Study of Youth Sports. The Texas study will collect more concussion data than it has before, University Interscholastic League deputy director Jamey Harrison said. Currently, Texas requires only one school from each district report concussions as part of a weekly injury reporting system, though each school in the football playoffs is required to report concussions. I chose this because it is a very interesting career to me and I would love to help people get better and recover from their abnormalities, whether it be the flu or a broken bone. One more thing that really grabbed my attention and helped me lean more towards this career is how much they can get paid by the hour. Television can affect learning and school performance if it interferes with the time kids need for activities crucial to healthy mental and physical development. Some shows (SpongeBob) teaches that it is fine to commit an inappropriate action because there will not be a punishment and kids feel that if they do the same thing as their favorite character from the program who committed the crime they will be a hero. Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in children: increase fear, desensitization to real life violence, and increase aggressive behavior. It may desensitve kids so much they think it is okay and no big deal for somebody to be hit or to hit someone in the head with a hammer. Kids who view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior, but also fear that the world is scary and that everyday something bad will happen. Scary–looking things like grotesque monsters especially frighten children aged two to seven. Telling them that the images aren't real does not help because kids under age eight can't always tell the difference between fantasy and reality (Television and Children). When watching a television shows usually every episode has a bad situation or a lot of drama in it so kids will start to have that mind frame that things will happen to them just like on the show. In adults, cognitive impairment (CI) is seen at the time of first attack suggesting a prodrome of disease progression prior to first onset of physical disability. Children who develop multiple sclerosis also have CI at time of diagnosis suggesting that actual disease onset occurs prior to manifestation of physical symptoms. It has not been reported whether children who go on to develop a clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis are delayed in acquiring early developmental milestones. Objective: To determine whether children with early onset MS are delayed in attaining early developmental milestones and whether children with MS diagnosis prior to the age of 11 years are more likely to need special education services. Methods: Pediatric–onset MS and cases and controls less than 18 years of age from 14 pediatric MS centers in the United States were studied. A questionnaire on environmental and genetic influences was completed by family members, capturing information on demographic and developmental history. Data on time of first walking unaided and acquisition of two word phrases were captured on MS and control groups. The need for special education services was captured in MS subjects only. That's 45 million people who face discrimination every day because they made a choice about what they wanted to do to their own body. There are many negative connotations affiliated with tattoos. Some people associate tattoos with gangs or other violent organizations, while others believe that having a tattoo makes you uneducated and a delinquent. Whatever the case is tattoos have a bad reputation in America. However people with tattoos should be treated with the same respect and should be able to have the same opportunities as their peers. Having tattoos gives you less options for work and other career aspirations. Many employers will not hire people with body art, in fact a study showed that 58 percent of employers said that they would be "less likely to hire an employee with with a body modification" (Sawyer [page 62]). An individual with tattoos can have the same qualifications as someone without however when given a picture of a potential employee with and without tattoos, the person with tattoos was constantly ranked lower ("Ink blots"). Since then, that same research has been furthered to prove itself on human test subjects. "When we look at samples prepared in the conventional way, we have to make many assumptions about their properties based on their final state, but with the new technique, we can now observe these processes first–hand," Prozorov explains. "It can help us understand the dynamics of macromolecule aggregation, nanoparticle self–assembly, and the effects of electric and magnetic fields on that process." This bears significant implications for biotechnological applications, especially in light of recent research regarding the use of magnetic heating to eradicate bacteria from surfaces within the human body. People get metal parts implanted all the time to compensate for injuries or very old body parts. These pieces range from metal plates to pins to artificial joints, but they all serve relatively similar purposes–holding bones together. The problem that comes from this from time to time is that bacteria inside a patient's body eventually find these metal surfaces and seek refuge on or in them. Ordinarily, physicians recommend surgery to get rid of those bacteria, but new research suggests that surgery may no longer be necessary; rather, it may be possible to get the same result with the non–invasive alternative of magnetic heating. These bacteria can be very difficult to remove because they form biofilms–thin sheets that form a viscous, protective membrane of sorts like plaque on enamel. Even though this only happens to ... Concussions affect 1.6 to 3.8 million athletes and children annually in the United States. Among athletes, football is the most common sport involving risks of concussions for males, and soccer is the most common sports with concussion risks for females. The NFL has admitted that brain trauma effects a third of all NFL players (Knowles.) Concussions have been part of the game since the very beginning, but it 's only in the past 50 years or so that medical science and the public has become aware of the serious long term effects of concussions. The NFL is spending money on researching the problem, because they have been sued from hundreds of players that have suffered long–term damage from concussions. The NFL needs to dedicate more money and research into increasing helmet safety, implementing rules and policies to protect players, and utilizing the best response treatment to prevent and protect players from concussions. Primarily, a concussion is an injury to the brain, caused by a hit or fall. Sometimes a person will have visible bruises, but sometimes there are no visible signs of a brain injury. A person does not have to lose consciousness to have a concussion. Some people recover in a few hours, while others will take weeks to recover. Symptoms include loss of ... • 20. Benefits Of Being A Radiologist A radiologist is someone who looks at medical images (such as X–Rays, Computerized Tomography scans, ultrasounds, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and uses it to detect medical problems. Some of the duties that radiologists perform include: diagnosing illnesses and treating patients using medical radiation. A radiologist can work at a public or private hospital or set up their own clinic. Working conditions for a radiologist who is employed at a hospital will not differ much from a clinic. You will not have to work not shifts or weekends just like a clinic. Residents usually take care of those shifts. Some of the skills that are essential for becoming a radiologist include being good following directions, taking the time to be precise in your measurements and having good communication skills. I am really good at following directions as I am always scared of the outcome of messing up. I also take the time to measure things out very carefully unless I am positive that tweaking things a little bit might result in a better outcome. I do have good communication skills when I am talking directly to a person in front of me but when I am writing an email I don't seem to describe things in as much detail as I should. One of the ways to work on this is to ask myself the five W's (Who, What, When, Where, Why) when writing my email to someone. • 21. Depression And Its Effects On Depression Depression is a psychoneurotic disorder characterized by lingering sadness, inactivity, and difficulty in thinking and concentration. Depression is one of the most common psychiatric conditions encountered ("Depression"). Doctors have all types of antidepressants that have been used worldwide for patients with depression. Introduced in the late 1950's, antidepressants were used to accomplish their task by inhibiting the body's reabsorption of these neurotransmitters, thus allowing them to accumulate and remain in contact longer with their receptors in nerve cells. Neurotransmitters are a chemical substance that is released at the end of a nerve fiber by the arrival of a nerve impulse and, by diffusing across the synapse or junction, causes the transfer of the impulse to another nerve fiber, a muscle fiber, or some other structure. These changes are important in elevating mood and relieving depression ("Depression"1). But what if we don't need antidepressants or any other drug? What if exercise could help fight depression naturally without side effects? One in 10 adults in the United States struggles with depression, and antidepressant medications are a common way to treat the condition. Journal Article Comparison: Different Audiences Journal article comparison: Different audiences In my field of biology, the prospective audience for a piece of writing will substantially affect the way an article is presented. A biology article can be directed at a lay audience (such as an article on a new type of treatment or medicine for a popular magazine) or be highly technical and directed towards an audience of researchers in a peer–reviewed journal. In most cases, there are multiple types of audiences primary and secondary, as well as the 'gatekeeper' who approves the article and the larger 'watchdog' audience screening the article post–publication (Locker & Kaczmarek21). This multiplicity of audiences is perhaps most starkly evident in biology publications pertaining to nutrition. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is primarily directed to an audience of biology professionals in the field who specifically focus on nutrition. It also has a subset of primary audience readers who are clinical nutritionists, public policy makers, and professionals in the field of nutrition (like sports physiologists). There is also a larger 'watchdog' group of the media and various professional dietary–related agencies who frequently read the publication and screen for bias. Finally, even if the public does not generally read this publication, a lay audience often reads summaries of research findings, given its relevant to everyday lives. By definition, households that are viewed as food secure are able to enjoy a variety of foods without having any sort of limit, thus proceed to have an active and healthy lifestyle (Gregory & Coleman–Jensen, 2017, 5). Those who are food secure have no worries of when their next meal will be. In contrast, food insecurity is the lack of access to the basic necessity of food due to having low availability of money and other resources. This issue is also affecting many people today in America. Food insecurity is currently affecting 21% of families in the United States (Shankar, Rainjade, Deborah, 2017, 135). There are differences between those who are food secure and those who are food insecure. There are also varying degrees of those who face low food insecurity and extremely low food insecurity. In this publication, Paniagua uses Bayat's classification to explain the dynamics of the poor of Latin America. Paniagua shows how Bayat argues that the passive poor will typically be content with their way of life and continue to struggle to survive. The political poor utilize the political process to their perceived advantage by voting for the party they fell is able to alleviate the burdens of poverty. Regarding the resisting poor, they typically strive for the opposition of the political and social system. The resisting poor may even resort to radical behavior to remove the current powers. The current situation in Syria is a great example of the resisting poor. Lastly, the surviving poor who resort to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Symptoms And Treatment Of Cancer Cancer is a disease that is caused when abnormal cells in the human body begin to divide uncontrollably. These abnormal, uncontrolled cells can then spread further into surrounding tissues, effectively harming them. Cancer is genetic, meaning there is a gene coded for this disease present that can be passed down through family. This does not mean, though, that one will be diagnosed with this disease if a family member had it and although it can be treated, cancer has the ability to return. When treating and examining this disease, stages and grading are taken into consideration. These stages go from 1 to 4. 1 being localised cancer (least dangerous) and 4 being largely expanded cancer (most dangerous). Today, more than 200 types of cancer are known to exist, and the one most commonly found in the U.S.A is skin cancer. In fact, it has been reported that 1 out of every 5 Americans will develop a form of skin cancer throughout their lifetime. Skin cancer, too, has many different types, and the most seen are: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma –– which is more dangerous, but not as common as the other two. Basal Cell Carcinoma Basal cell carcinoma is also known as BCC and is the most common yet least risky type of skin cancer there is. This type of skin cancer gets its name from where it begins: the basal cells, which are in charge of producing new skin cells as the elder ones continue to die off. Even though BCC can happen to anyone, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Whitehouse.gov (original emphasis), "To date...neither the FDA nor the Institute of Medicine have found smoked marijuana to meet the modern standard for safe or effective medicine for any condition." It's highly unlikely that anyone will be able to prove the substance is entirely safe, because (let's be honest), it's not. As with all drugs, there is an associated risk that comes along with any benefits the drug may have. It's just like on those prescription drugs, when you hear how a medication may ... Bobcat Population Research Paper Hunting and Trapping Bobcats in New Hampshire In 2010 the University of New Hampshire did a study and estimated about 1400 bobcats in the state of New Hampshire. • 41. Essay on Linking Eating Disorders With Genetics While Bulimia is known by many names, the term "bulimia" did not enter the English language until the 1970s, "perhaps representing lingering uncertainty about its essence" (Gordon, 2000). Bulimia, as we know it, is a modern disease, however, there is some evidence of binging and purging in ancient times; for example, in ancient Egypt, "physicians would recommend periodical purgation as a health practice" (Gordon, 2000). There has also been documentation of wealthy families in the middle ages vomiting during meals in order to continue eating large amounts of food. At this point, you may be wondering why these examples are not considered Bulimia Nervosa. According to Dr. Richard Allan Gordon, author of Eating Disorders: Anatomy of a Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is now defined as "Recurring episodes of eating significantly more food in a short period of time than most people would eat under similar circumstances, with episodes marked by feelings of lack of control.... The person may have feelings of guilt, embarrassment, or disgust and may binge eat alone to hide the behavior". It is important to note that there is a difference between over–eating and binge–eating, while over–eating is a recognizable problem for many people, "binge–eating is much less common, far more severe, and associated with significant physiological and psychological problems" (DSM 5). Binge Eating Disorder is similar to Bulimia Nervosa in that we see episodes of eating large amounts of food, the difference being that there is no purging after the binging episode. It is seen highly among obese patients, but, perhaps due to a reluctance to relate obesity with an eating disorder, it was not recognized as distinct from Bulimia Nervosa until the early 1990s (Gordon, 2000). Some of the first documented cases of Anorexia Nervosa were religious in origin. As early as the 12th century we saw women, particularly in Western Christianity, known as "Miracle Maidens" who were highly esteemed for their self–control, their "holy anorexia" was thought of as a gift from God. Some scholars have stated "the intense relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
