Switching To Nuclear Energy
People who support nuclear energy argue that it is an efficient source of energy. This means that
energy can be produced quickly and people can use it when they need it. It makes enough energy to
provide people with their desired needs. These people also believe that it is easy to make the switch
to nuclear power. That it is easy to add power plants and switch to nuclear energy. People who agree
with nuclear energy believe that even though it takes carbon dioxide to create these power plants,
once they are running, they will cut down on CO2 emissions (1). It is very deceiving because at first

Building enough power plants to provide the world with energy would mean increasing our CO2
production in the process of making them. Once the power plants are built, although they don't use
CO2 to produce energy, to keep the factories running and transport all of the waste releases more
CO2 (1). Switching to renewable energy would progress us further into stopping climate change. We
would be cutting down on CO2 emissions by a much greater amount. This would make a more
significant difference on the climate change (1). This shows that using renewables would make a
larger impact on the world and how to help save it. The Industry already has technology to switch to
100% renewables, they just don't want to let go of their nuclear technology (4). Another danger of
nuclear power is the risk of terrorism and violence. People are worried that if violent protesters

On August 6th and 9th, 1945 the first atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Japan. With the use of these new weapons a door was opened that could never be closed, a new and
uncertain era was now upon the world, and the use of atomic power could mean the betterment or
destruction of a nation at a moment's notice. Whether you like it or not, you live in the atomic age
and it can have many implications that you may or may not know about. The Manhattan Project is
well known to have developed the first two atomic bombs, fat man, and little boy, but nuclear
technology was being researched many years before this. Uranium was first found in 1789 by
Martin Klaproth, and was discovered to have ionizing radiation in 1895 by Wilhelm Rontgen
(Outline History of Nuclear Energy). More and more information on uranium and other materials
were being discovered, such as: radioactive materials emitting alpha particles in 1896 by Henri
Becquerel, in 1902 the discovery of radiation being a spontaneous event by Ernest Rutherford, Niels
Bohr and his increased understanding of the atom, in 1932 when James Chadwick discovered the

with their Radium Institute of Leningrad FTI, but was hampered with Stalin's purges that eliminated

Nuclear Power Is Too Dangerous and Should Be Phased Out Essay
Just a few years ago there was a significant catastrophic nuclear failure. This failure caused huge
amounts of radioactive materials to be released into the environment. The Fukushima Daiichi
nuclear disaster quickly became the largest nuclear incident since the 1986 Chernobyl accident
while both have affected the environment immensely with radiation. Due to the potential safety
issues, the risk to the environment, and the dangers of nuclear power, the use of nuclear facilities
must be called off to prevent meltdowns and irreparable damage to the surrounding area.
One reason why nuclear power must be eliminated is due to the fact that it does not justify the

"The Road" depicts a solemn and deteriorating environment that can no longer provide the
fundamentals to a society due to the nuclear disaster. The sudden depletion of the resources within
their environment made it difficult for the father and the son to find sustenance. They were
constantly traveling towards the South looking for safe places to situate themselves because the
father knew that they would not be able to survive the nuclear winter. The genre of the novel is

There is a huge expense in maintaining and building the nuclear arms that we use for deterrence.
Nuclear information is secret, taking great amounts of money and time, to research and keep it
confidential. Power is gained from the research and development, which is definitely worth the
expense. The great amounts of money spent on nuclear technology help ensure the security of the
people of the United States. It takes huge amounts of money to have the edge in nuclear technology.

can not ignore the horrible things that it has done to our planet and ecosystem. There are two sides
to this argument if we should close nuclear power plants or we shouldn't in my personal opinion I
think that we should close these plants. But before I had to make my decision I had to do some

then the Nuclear plant can be up and running again. But then again, Nuclear power gives us new

normal life of nuclear reactor is anywhere from 40–60 years, depending on how often it is used and

Many of the environmentalists oppose Yucca Mountain because they believe that the waste could
contaminate our water supply. They believe that water could corrode the canisters and then the
United States would be confronting a catastrophe. However, a study, conducted by the DOE, found
that even if water would erode the canisters of waste, the waste would still have to pass through one
thousand feet of rock to contaminate an underground water supply. Obviously, this fifteen year
study, completed in 1998, greatly encouraged progression towards completion of Yucca Mountain.
Despite these findings, skeptics still believe that water could be contaminated and claim that
because the study was conducted by the DOE–which is pro–Yucca Mountain–that it should be

The largest problem confronting Yucca Mountain is transporting the radioactive waste from
temporary storage sites. The waste would be transported by truck and train. Inevitably, accidents

that occurred in 2011 at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant following an underwater earthquake
that produced tsunamis, eventually resulting in a full nuclear meltdown and toxic amounts of
radiation being dumped into the atmosphere. This particular nuclear disaster is infamous because,
despite the earthquake and tsunami, it is still considered a man–made disaster. Had Fukushima plant
workers been properly trained regarding what to do in the event of a nuclear disaster and had the
Japanese government reacted more swiftly and efficiently, the damage to the reactors would have
been less extensive and a full nuclear meltdown could have been prevented altogether. The factors
that led to the meltdown, however, can be learned from and used to develop better safety procedures
and educate people so that hopefully the next nuclear accident can be avoided in the future. Simply
put, the nuclear reactors at the Fukushima plant use chemical reactions to boil water, producing

The way a nuclear power plant produces energy is by a process called nuclear fission which is
splitting the nucleus of an atom. Fission turns water into steam and the steam makes pressure. Then
the steam that is made turns a turbine that is connected to a generator and the turning of the turbine
forces the generator to produce electricity ("Nuclear Fission"). The energy source for a nuclear
power plant is Uranium and it is a very rare resource. Once it's gone then it's gone forever and when
that happens then we cannot produce anymore nuclear energy. Depending on the demand of
Uranium, it is estimated that this element will only last another thirty to sixty years. I am not for
nuclear energy because I think that the cons out weigh the pros.
There are tons of issues with nuclear energy. Some bad stuff that happens are the high cost to build a
nuclear power plant, it's not a renewable source of energy, the nuclear waste it produces, and nuclear
accidents. The question to ask is do the pros outweigh the cons? France is concerned about all those
problems so they are looking to close up to seventeen nuclear power plants by 2025. They want a
renewable energy source but if they do this then they run into a problem which is seventy–five
percent of their electricity comes from nuclear energy which is the highest percentage in the world.
Frances plants are also getting old. The average life span of a plant is built to last only forty years.

This means that energy can be produced quickly and people can use it when they need it. It makes enough energy to provide people with their desired needs. These people also believe that it is easy to make the switch to nuclear power. That it is easy to add power plants and switch to nuclear energy. People who agree with nuclear energy believe that even though it takes carbon dioxide to create these power plants, once they are running, they will cut down on CO2 emissions (1).
