Instructor Presentation: Time : 10 mins What & Why: Credentials instructors and programme design Prepares attendees for participation Sets the learning environment as safe and participative How Instructor welcomes group, introduces him/herself by reference to experience Introduces subject of training course Introduces learning cycle, Learning cycle is based on Kolb’s 4 learning styles - theorist, activist, reflector and pragmatist. The way that this programme is designed is such that the learner receives the theory first then puts this into practice (activist) and receives a debrief at the end which allows them to reflect on the situation. Throughout this process we make it as practical as possible and invite learners to think about real application back in the workplace. Introduces zones of comfort, discomfort, panic Draw 3 circles The inner circle = comfort zone Middle circle = discomfort zone Outer circle = Panic zone Explain to the learners that in order for learning to take place they need to get out of their comfort zone and into their discomfort zone = learning zone. So when they are doing activities in this programme they might feel a bit uncomfortable but this is necessary for learning to take place. The training is a safe environment for them to experience new ways of doing things. We do not want them, however to reach the Panic zone as learning does not normally take place there either .
