Anime In America Research Paper
Everyone knows each project has a process no matter how long or short it may be, with that said this
will be a deep analysis on my project: Anime in America. I chose a topic revolving around anime
mainly because I watch it and I wanted to do my project on something I found interesting. Another
reason for my choice in topics is because I already knew about some of the things revolving around
my thesis, my thesis being how America's encounter resulted in a sanitized, non–stereotyped and
easily accessible form of media. Even though I had background information on my topic,
researching it gave me material I could build upon and use to support the reasons behind my thesis.
Now that you know the topic that this project is based on, it would probably be important for you to
know where most of my information was derived from. Most the information used in this project
came from my own background knowledge and the internet. Background knowledge on this topic
was especially useful since it helped with figuring out what to focus on and building ideas. The
format I chose for presenting my topic was the performance format due to the well–executed
examples I've seen. Another reason for my choice in format was an Anime where at the end of each
episode had a comedic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plenty of shows today are heavily influenced by anime and have done extremely well. Not only that
but with the internet accessing anime is a lot easier, and finding subtitled versions is some peoples
preferred way of watching it. Moving away from the act watching anime, there is plenty of
merchandise with recognizable characters from anime on it, and are even conventions where people
dress as their favorite characters (cosplay) the largest one being Anime Expo. To conclude anime has
definitely impacted America and its pop culture

Stop Motion Animation
Stop motion animation: Stop motion animation is when you take a picture of something, move it
ever so slightly (depending on how smooth you want the sequence to be) then take another picture
and so on and so on. The sequence of pictures will create an illusion of a moving image. When
creating a stop motion animation it can either be done traditionally or a computer can be used to
generate the background sets. Examples of stop–motion animation on TV are commonly children's
shows such as Morph, Shaun the sheep, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noddy and Wallace and Gromit's
World of Invention. The advantage of stop motion animation is that you can be creative because
there aren't many limitations on what you can do with an object like you do in real life. The
disadvantage is that it's very time consuming and extremely laborious and you have to make sure the
camera's still because one little slip up shows very clearly.
Clay animation: It is similar to stop motion animation however using clay. It works by capturing
each frame and then playing the recorded shots to see a live action. Clay animation films were
created in the 1908's, however it's in 1916 that it started to become popular overseas. Each clay
character is produced by using a wire and clay, the wire is called an armature. The disadvantage of
clay is that it's very fragile therefor when producing and shooting the characters and objects must
not be altered by any smudges, hair or dust

Waltz With Bashir Analysis
I choose the quote by Norman McLaren about animation with a segment from Waltz with Bashir
starts from 35:50 to 37:31. Like McLaren's (1995) argument, "animation is not the art of drawings
that move, but the art of movements that are drawn" (p.62), Waltz with Bashir is exactly
corresponding with McLaren's opinion. The difference that we could distinguish animation from a
drawing is the movement in it. Therefore what we really should look more into an animation are the
moves instead of the frames.
Waltz with Bashir gives a hard time to the critics that whether it counts as an animation or a
documentary. The reason for this confusion is the amount of reality it contains, not only within the
frames, but also within the movement each character has and between each frame, because "what
happens between each frame is much more important than what exists on each frame" (McLaren,
1995, p.26). How it moves is much more than what is moving. When McLaren (1995) says,
"animation is therefore the art of manipulating the invisible interstices that lie between frames"
(p.26), again, he emphasize on the importance of the style, the structure, the pace and rhythm of the
movements in animation– everything except for the things on each frame. If we could follow
McLaren's instruction, we will easily see how Waltz with Bashir develops in a both realistic and
cruel but also artistic and abstract way.
The segment begins with Roni Dayag standing under a tree with his monologue saying: "I felt guilty

Short Essay On Walt Disney
Walt Disney
Walt Disney, someone who had great success in past years developing a company we all know
today. Walt Disney, with his animation skills, he changed the world and how we look at it today.
Leaving a legacy of having the most rewards for cartoons he made in the past, with leading his co,
and workers to success of being the most known company through many generations. Who was Walt
Disney? How did his company develope through past years? And who were the people that
influenced Disney, affecting his future.? Walt Disney was a great leader. Along with Disney being a

"Disney rapidly expanded his studio operations to include a training school where a whole new
generation of artists developed and made possible the production of the first feature–length cartoon,
Snow White (1937)"(ANB). Most people wonder how Walt made so much money to develop his
company further. As time came quickly in this period of time, Walt was able to accomplish more
than planned. No one will ever reach where Walt was and even now. Walt was very successful
leading and working with his co–workers and company. "Walt with much success created a
character of his own with his brother Roy, Mickey Mouse"(ANB). Mickey Mouse was a part of the
development of Walt's company. With much creativity, Walt and his brother created a character that
funded most development. Walt Disney created a lot of animated characters, and he created films
and cartoons too. This makes most understand why Walt should be considered a leader. "Mickey
Mouse was very popular then, and now. Most remember who Walt is because of this character"
(Historic Missourians). Mickey Mouse was the first character to have a voice in a cartoon. The voice
actor specifically was Walt himself. This shows that Walt was more capable than just being a leader
or owner of a company. Once again this adds more to his success and legacy(Historic

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Animation
INTRODUCTION
Animation is a process of creating an illusion of motion or movement or any change of shape of any
object or body by means of rapid display of a sequence of images that were different from each
other. It is a process of displaying still images. In animation, processes done by frames and in 1 sec
24 frames were cut to make an image.
The meaning of animation is to convert REAL WORLD into VIRTUAL WORLD. To animate
everything (non–living thing) into virtual world. Basically to show everything real which would not
be possible in real world but it would in virtual world.
Animation starts by collecting various independent pictures and putting together to form the illusion
of continuous motion.

TECHNIQUES IN ANIMATION
1) TRADITIONAL ANIMATION:
Also known as Hand–Written animation. Traditional or cel animation is the most popular form of
animation that involves hand drawn images. It was followed in 20th century. The process started by
deciding a story. The frames which were drawn by hand are basically photographs of drawing, first
drawn on a paper to create an illusion of movement where each frame or drawing must be different
from one another. The digital scanning has replaced the cel animation but the look is still preserved
and the job of the character still remains the

The Career Of Animation : Animation
The Career of Animation Animation; an art form with the ability to tell a story and convey a
multitude of emotions along with information. Animation can be found almost everywhere in media
from commercials, to movies, to games. Every single animation need an animator or a team of
animators to create it. There are many kinds of animation: 2D, 3D, motion graphics, visual effects.
Each of these categories may have multiple people working on them using their own special skills to
produce the final product. The reason for researching this occupation is because of my fascination
and respect for the craft. I admire the art of storytelling immensely and the creativity that goes into
it.

Animators, no matter what type, must play many roles and are tasked with responsibility because a
team could be counting on them.
Skills and Qualities The skills an animator possesses are integral to the work they do. Without their
skills, they are out of a job. For 3D animators, they must learn the modeling software used by the
company who is hiring them. Using the correct software is key because in a team must be able to
easily transition a project from person to person without hassle. Some of the most common software
used in the 3D industry are Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Photoshop, and After Effects
("3D Animation Careers: Job Description & Salary Information"). Keeping up to date with new
technology is vital. Other skills also attractive to an employer, involve proficiency in Adobe
products, being able to code, drawing skills, and communication skills (Flavin). Having a base
knowledge of many software is a safe bet in the industry.
According to Andrew Gordon, directing animator at Pixar, an animator should first work on
traditional art because it helps with compositing and creating visually appealing shots. Furthering
themselves into their profession so they stand out. Secondly, he recommended working in depth in a
single area of the field and excelling at that aspect. In 3D animation studios like Pixar, these aspects
could be modeling characters, modeling environments, simulations,

Analysis Of The Dead By Billy Collins
"The Dead" by Billy Collins is an excellent poem about people who have died and what they do
while they are in heaven. Collins describes them as" rowing through eternity" (line 4) and "looking
down on us through their glass bottomed boats" (line 3). The poem even has an animation, that
shows the animator, Juan Delcan of the group called "Spontaneous," and the animation shows his
point of view on what the poem is and what it means to him. The poem has many poetic devices,
and an animation made of it that describes "The Dead," that can help or hinder ones understanding
of Billy Collins poem.
Billy Collins's poem "The Dead" uses many poetic devices throughout the poem. The whole poem is
an open form poem, meaning that it has no specific style, such as rhyming. The poem also
personified, as the dead are animated, and they seem to be alive as they look down on the people of
earth. Billy Collins has also thrown in some alliteration, line two has two s–words and it is "shoes or
making a sandwich. . .", the other example of alliteration that Collins put in was two b–words in line
three "bottom boats of heaven. . ." throughout the poem, there is also examples of enjambment; as
there is no break between lines. Lines three and four have this "they are looking down through the
glass bottom boats of heaven/as they row themselves through eternity." Lines nine and ten is the
other example of enjambment, as they say, "which makes them lift their oars and fall silent/and wait,

Essay about Variations in Animation in Different Cultures
Animation in different cultures
Animation has a variety of differences between Japanese culture and the culture of the United
States. While animation is usually made for the sole purpose of entertainment for children in the
United States, Japanese animation, also known as anime as it is referred to both in Japan and in the
West, is a form of media that is enjoyed by people of all ages. Unlike the Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles and SpongeBob Square pants, both very popular American animations shows in their times,
anime focuses more on drama and other non childlike qualities. The differing cultures of the United
States and Japan can be considered the main factor to the huge differences in their own respected
animation styles.

films from foreign nations reached Japanese theatres, mostly coming from the United States.
With the rapid spread of television in the 1960's, Japanese animators found a new way to sell their
products. One of the first Japanese anime to see great success was Tetsuwan Atom also known as
Astro Boy, seeing success in western countries such as the United States and Europe. Another
popular series from this time period was Tetsujin 28–go or Gigantor. Unlike the cartoons being
shown in the United States at this time period, such as Spiderman, The Flintstones, and The Jetsons,
Astro Boy and Gigantor focused on bigger, more mature issues. Cartoons in the United States aimed
more at entertaining children with superheros thwarting criminals, and both prehistoric and futuristic
comedy. These types of cartoons were never meant for anything other than entertainment with a
small side of morality lessons put in for good measure. While entertaining, very rarely did the
cartoons that were from the United States create critical thinking or questions about morality
amongst their young viewers.

Animation: Stop Motion Animation
Stop Motion Animation
Stop motion is a technique which makes an inanimate object e.g a toy or clay model and makes it
seem to move on its own. This can be done by taking many photos and making minuscule
movements between each photo (each frame). When the photos are played together the illusion of
movement is apparent.
Elements of stop motion have been apparent since the early days of film usually to portray magic.
The origins of stop motion start with Peter Roget who wrote a paper on 'The persistence of vision
with regard to moving objects' in 1824,this was about the illusion of inanimate objects moving. This
was taken and adapted by Dr Joseph Antoine Plateau and Dr. Simon Rittrer in 1831. They took this
idea of illusion through movement and created the phenakistoscope which was essential a ... Show

Anime Essay
Anime Anime is the Japanese take on the word "animation". It represents the Japanese style of
animating cartoons. However, not all anime is for children. Majority imported to America is aimed
at an adult audience– containing deep storylines, graphic violence, gore, as well as nudity and adult
situations. This cinematic genre is a fast growing trend in the west and can now possibly be
considered the most popular phenomenon among children, considering the success of the much–in–

Usually it's a helpless, victimized, female character that ends up falling madly in love with the hero.
Kagero, a female ninja, best fits the description of this character. Because she is a ninja, she's not as
helpless as some might imagine the "damsel–in–distress" character to be, but she is constantly
victimized (helplessly raped twice by two different enemy demons) and is saved a countless number
of times by
Jubei. Sure enough, in the end, she falls in love with Jubei, the only man to ever steal her heart.
The third main character type is "the enemy". The "head" antagonist, usually male, is a hideous
monster in horror anime, and in action anime almost always possesses supernatural powers. He
seems much more invincible and usually batters in the climax, but he always has a weakness for the
hero to capitalize on. He is impure, immoral, unethical and, in short, evil. His heart has no remorse
for his actions and for those suffering from them. The enemy, like the hero, is unknown to us and is
gradually introduced throughout the story. The enemy of this story is Himuro Gemma. Gemma is a
bisexual, immortal human with the ability to reincarnate himself. In his early days, he caused Jubei
and his friends to turn on each other, forcing Jubei to kill them. He poisons an entire village, and
with the help of his henchmen, plans to take over an already dark army of ninjas.

The Importance Of Animated Dental Videos
The Importance of Animated Dental Videos
Right now animated dental videos are what's trending in the web world. The reason is that most
consumers are used to seeing these kinds of videos. Animated videos have an informal and friendly
nature that allows people to let their guards down. This allows you to express your marketing
message without as much resistance. We are seeing 3D animations creep up in popularity in the
marketing of dental products. The tv was one of the first to use animation for commercials for
toothbrushes and toothpaste. Now you can popularly see dental care commercials that show
animated evil plaques being terminated by heroic toothpaste particles.
Another valid point to why our animated dental videos are in high need is because nobody wants to
look in somebody else's mouth. It comes from the eighties where 2D was at its peak than in the
nineties it was replaced with 3D and is here now. Today you would practically be a mediocre dentist
if you can not show your 12–year–old patient a beautiful 3D animation of her braces in your initial

appeal to your future patients and current ones through flattering camera angles, keeping things

of two leading animation companies: the Walt Disney Company and Studio Ghibli. While Disney
and Studio Ghibli vary in their style, production, and overall themes, they both produce award

In 1928, the whistling Mickey Mouse in the short cartoon Steamboat Willie led to the beginnings of

Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by rapidly displaying a
sequence of static images that have minor differences. Animators are artists that specialize in
creating animation. Stop motion is an animation technique that results in an object appearing to
move on its own, by physically manipulating that object. It is moved in tiny increments between
frames photographed individually. This creates the illusion of movement when the series of frames

Seeing how much Max valued their friendship and how happy it made him, Mary is moved to tears
of joy as the film closes.
The film is sublime. It's funny and insightful as it creates very different worlds for its two
characters, and yet it doesn't shy away from the harsher aspects of the lives of Mary and Max.
BARRY HUMPHRIES narrates and he does it beautifully. The animation perfectly suits the story, it
was five years in the making and it's worth every minute.
Comment: I found this film very tough going– it is undoubtedly a well made film and has some
clever and quirky moments. However I lost interest around halfway through the film and could not
engage with the film and its clunky style. A lighter touch would have made a huge difference to the
viewing experience. Perhaps as an artistic statement it deserves more than three stars but as a movie
going experience it was only a little bit better than average.
The clay only gave the story more credibility, others might differ in their opinion about that, but I
think if it were played by real actors it would be less believable, (saying the tale itself was based on
a true story).
Love this movie. I cried a much needed cry that I wasn't able to do for

Japanese Culture In Japan
Japanese culture is filled with creativity, especially in Tokyo. The best way to describe Tokyo is to
compare it to New York. In America New York is the heart of fashion, business and music. Basically
it was the place to be or go to if you wanted your dreams to come true. Tokyo is a mirror of these
themes for the Japanese people. One of the attractions in Tokyo specifically is Anime. The first
generations to begin Anime started in the late 1910's. From then on Anime has become the core
content to view one of the most famous animated series in the world. Especially since Anime started
in Japan, it's very likely that you'll see a lot of the Japanese culture within every animated piece.
Two animated movies that have been greatly obsessed with not only in Japan, but also all around the
world are Akira and Michiko & Hatchin. Both movies were created by two different director who
rose in the Anime popularity not so far from one another. Katsuhiro Otomo was the director who
created Akira which was published in 1988, and Sayo Yamamoto was the director who created
Michiko & Hatchin. With animation being a competitive field where directors are trying to create
the most critically acclaimed filmed, some of the factors that are often ignored is whether the
director was a male or female. If you were to watch these movies one after the other you would be
amazed with the overall results of each one, but what is it that makes one movie better than the other
and how does it play an effect.

Animation: Differences Between Eastern European And...
Difference between Eastern European and Western European Animation The definition for
animation as stated in Oxford Dictionary is "the technique of photographing successive drawings or
positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a
sequence". There are many types of animation besides 2D and 3D. Some of them are stop–motion
animation, puppet animation which we commonly known here at Malaysia as wayang kulit, clay
animation or claymation which uses clay, zoetrope animation where still images are drawn on a
drum and turned in a circular way thus creating an illusion of movement and one of the oldest, yet
still fascinating, the flip book animation. Animation is originated in the 19th century, where ... Show

It was certainly the place that holds the greatest dilemma of all. It was surprising when all of the

first to done it, followed by Yugoslavia and Poland. It was always known that cinema adapt to the
same structure which a state–funded industry that depends on the political leadership and covers all
areas of production, rental, exhibitions and theatre management. Due to a philosophy of
disintegration, in the footsteps of the Soviet Union, production often included one or more teams of
animators, and these teams occasionally located in cities other than the capital. Animation was
usually limited to younger viewers because of its popularity among children. Almost instantly after
World War II, the productions of animated films trended to be systematic and conformist and as time

By following Disney formula, animator reproducing animations focus on film for children, but fail
to imitate the method. The distribution of the television gives the opportunity to the animator to
show their work by making advertisment. Many advertising companies start to urge stable renewal
and some of them even fund their artist's creative work into the field of entertainment.
During World War II, the traditional method which is advertisement no longer supports British
Animation. But British animation still maintain in the industry because of wartime propaganda. In
the 1940s, Halas and Batchelor Animation Studios were founded by John Halas and Joy Batchelor,

Memories And The Formation Of Reality
In film, flashbacks are interruptions that take the narrative back in time from the current point in the
story. They are often used to provide background and context to recount current events of a narrative
filling in crucial backstories. In its basic form, the flashback is introduced when a presented image
dissolves to another image of the past, which can be either as "a story–being–told or a subjective
memory." (Turim, pg. 1) For example, dream sequences and memories are methods used to present
flashbacks. They become visual representation to the audience as an act of remembering past
experiences of reality. Imagination also plays an important role in shaping the mind and the story
similar to memories and the formation of reality. Imagination is usually integrated into animation as
an artistic creation to express the artists' ideas or memory. But where does the use of imagination
and memories stop? By examining memory represented in animation and film, through Bartlett's
theory of schema, we can see how the film develops an active organized method to recognize reality
through memory. This paper is examining five films based on the theme of memory, thus arguing
that imagination does not distorted memory in animation, but create a role as a form of
embellishment for the film to help memory. Fredrick Bartlett is a British psychologist from
Cambridge University, based on his book Remembering (1932) that focused on how people made
sense of what was being remembered. The

Disney has been involved in the lives of millions of Americans since the early 1920s and even now,
continues to touch the hearts of each new generation. What started as a simple and humble cartoon
studio grew into a world–wide known enterprise. Disney brought comfort to the United States post
WWII and has been a staple in households across America for children everywhere. It is not
uncommon for people to reminiscence about their childhood when thinking about Disney shows or
movies. So, how did a little cartoon studio get so well known? The era of when the studio was

(The Americans: Reconstruction to the 21st Century, pg.535) America was in an uproar during this
time, screaming words of isolationism and in the midst of this Disney films offered citizens an
escape from reality for a short amount of time. With all of the chaos overseas; the studio suffered
from the loss of foreign market, but it was thanks to the huge success of Snow White that kept
Disney out of debt.
Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs set the stage for Walt Disney's studio rise to fame. Once more,
after the studio's first success they set to work on the next feature film and in 1940, Pinocchio and
Fantasia were released. Tensions in America were high because just a year prior; France, Germany,
and Great Britain had declared war on each other. President Roosevelt was under great pressure to
remain out of the conflict; on the other hand during this time the two movies just released grossed
up to $84 million and $83 million respectively. It was clear during this time that Americans wanted a
break from the crushing atmosphere, so going to watch a movie allowed them some peace of mind.
One year later with a careful eye out to, "Look Out for Mister Stork," everyone's favorite circus
elephant, Dumbo, became known to the public. This movie was released late in the year of 1941, but
only two months before disaster struck. That same year in the month of December, Japan launched
an attack on Pearl Harbor.

Who Said That Animation Is Just For Kids Essay
Ask any student in college about old cartoon shows like Looney Toons or X–men, and you'll
probably get a response like "I used to love watching that show!". Children in America today are
raised on cartoons, as most American animation is directed at children. If you were to ask the people
who said that they used to watch cartoons if they still watch animated shows today, they would
probably say that they grew out of watching cartoons a long time ago. However, this is not the case
everywhere, in Japan animated shows are directed to all ages instead of just children. Animated

This made animation much easier and soon became a trademark of American cartoons. As the years
went on cartoons did not diverge from the successful slapstick routine that was shown. But as the
years passed and local televisions were introduced, cartoons were no longer something you could
only see in theaters. Adults became less interested in the cartoons, and began considering cartoons
as something that only children should watch. As such animation companies began directing all of
their shows at young children. Merchandising was now the best way to make money off of these
cartoons now that the cartoons could be watched at home, with constant advertisement, companies
could sell all kinds of merchandise based off of cartoons, a great example of which is Disneyland.
Up into the 90s cartoons were still directed at children urging them to purchase the next cool toy
based off of the show. Today some animated shows are becoming more adult oriented with shows
like The Simpsons, or South Park which contain more mature content but still keep the crazy antics
that are prevalent in animation. Over the years American animation has almost always been very
episodic, where at the end of the episode every thing was back to normal and life keeps going as if
nothing has happened, character's in shows never age and always stay the same. This way people

This movie was mostly made to try to make those who were upset with urban life, more specifically
whites who were upset, to leave it behind and join the plantation life (Terry, 471–2). This movie was
more for the white audience, making the black slaves who are living on the plantation out to be
happy, and that it's the dream place to be. This was of course not how it really was, it was a much
darker situation then, especially for the "happy" blacks. The lead actor himself could not even come
to watch his own movie, due to the segregation laws in place during that period. One common type
of propaganda done by the media is usually dehumanizing the enemies during war times or just

Axis enemies look like brainless fools (Young). The Japanese soldiers depicted in "Commando

SWOT Analysis of Pixar
Overview
In 1974, Ed Catmull was hired to manage the Computer Graphic Lab (CGL) at the New York
Institute of Technology. The CGL also hired a few other computer scientists who shared ambitions
about creating the world's first computer animated film. In 1979, Ed Catmull and his team moved to
the computer division at Lucasfilm. In 1986, Steve Jobs bought the computer division from
Lucasfilm, paid $5million to George Lucas for technology rights and founded an independent
company, Pixar. Steve Jobs joined the company's board of directors as chairman and Ed Catmull
became the president of the company. In 1991, Pixar made a $26 million deal with Disney to
produce three computer animated feature films. Pixar produced Toy Story, the first computer
animated film in 1995. Since then the studio has produced eighteen computer animated feature
films. In 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion and Pixar became Disney's subsidiary company.
Strength
Pixar's management has been one of the major strengths in its successful history. According to Ed
Catmull, the company adheres to three main operating principles. The first one is that everyone must
have the freedom to communicate with anyone. It means that decision making hierarchy and
communication structure are two different things in this organization. Members from any
department should be able to approach anyone from another department to solve problems without
waiting for permission. It is the most efficient way to deal with numerous problems. The second one
is that it must be safe for everyone to offer ideas. The company highly values "feedback", and they
help make the ongoing projects perfect and give better solutions to the problems. The third one is
that they must stay close to innovations happening in the academic community. Pixar strongly
encourages its technical artists to publish their research and participate in conferences. This may
give away ideas, but it can attract exceptional talents and reinforces the belief that people are more
important than ideas (Catmull, 2008).
Pixar offers it employees a wide range of

Stop Motion Animation
Stop–motion animation requires the shooting of physically manipulated still objects to appear as
moving objects.
Some use dolls, props or clay (also known as called Claymation) to sequentially move an object in
between individually shot frames.
Depending on the preference of the director, stop–motion animation may also require either
traditional or computer animation to supplement the movie's other visual requirements such as the
backgrounds, sets, and props.
Examples of stop–motion animation on TV are commonly children's shows such as Morph, Shaun
the sheep, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noddy and Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention.
The advantage of stop motion animation is that you can be creative because there aren't many
limitations on what you can do with an object like you do in real life.
The disadvantage is that it's very time consuming and extremely laborious and you have to make
sure the camera's still because one little slip up shows very clearly.
Clay animation:
It is similar to stop motion animation however using clay. It works by capturing each frame and then
playing the recorded shots to see a live action.
Clay animation films were created in the 1908's, however it's in 1916 that it started to become
popular overseas.
Each clay character is produced by using a wire and clay, the wire is called an armature.
The disadvantage of clay is that it's very fragile therefor when producing and shooting the characters

The Fireflies ( 1988 ) Directed By Isao Takahata And Waltz...
In America, most animated movies incite young audiences. The funny characters and feel–good
script entertain children and also gives them moral lessons along the way. The same cannot be said
for international films such as Grave of the Fireflies (1988) directed by Isao Takahata and Waltz
with Bashir (2008) directed by Ari Folman. These animated films contrast each other, not only
cinematically, but in the plotline as well. Wars replay over the main characters in each film, both
inside and outside the war itself. The difference between civilians and soldiers, color and grayscale,
dreams and reality create films which mesmerize the adult audience. Both anime and comic–book
animation soften the audience's overwhelming emotions when facing the realities brought by war
and help story–tellers create scenes with a specific purpose. The animation used in Grave of the
Fireflies provides child–like imagination during World War II. Set in Japan, the plot follows two
children torn away from their parents and struggling to survive on their own. By using anime, the
children's harsh conditions seem unreal, yet powerful. If the director, or producers, used real actors
and actresses to create Grave of the Fireflies, then the audience would find Setsuko and Seita's
situation harder to swallow. Seeing real people ripped from their families and starving on the streets
forces people to accept other realities different from their own. American audiences see how the air
raids effected civilians

The animated film was 70 seconds made with 700 images and 24 frames per second for making the

Thank You for Our Project, Jessica
Hello again Jessica. I know I haven't exactly been keeping my promises on the due dates and I'm
only fortifying the stigma that I touched on in my last email but I've still got a few questions. (Did
you get my last email, by the way?) Anyway, would you just like me to submit what I have? I have
well over two minutes and way more than five angles. Sound has also been added and mixed. The
entire movie, however, is not finished. It should give you enough to grade or at least be a worthy
placeholder until I can really submit a product I'm not totally disappointing with. I know it may be
hard to even fathom what could possibly be taking so long but I've been mulling over several other
things regarding this project.
One of the reasons I can't seem to get anywhere and one of the areas I'm constantly getting hung up
on is the nature and tone of the project itself.
I wanted to establish a sort of creepy and unsettling mood for the project and I can't achieve what I
was originally visioning in my head. Some of the animations employed simply seem to make their
scene seem frivolous, silly, and awkward. I may spend up to an hour or two just trying to figure out
how to make the seemingly insignificant feel "right."
Another issue that I'm having is that there are several frame rate and "frame jump" mishaps that
have occurred during the initial picture taking. Sometimes the character will "jump" from one shot
to another and, subsequently, the scene appears

"The Wrong Trousers" is a Clay Animation Production (where all characters are made out of clay).
Created by Nick Park (a famous Animator) in 1993, "The Wrong Trousers" stars Wallace and

Also I think that comedy can be found due to the naïveté of Wallace, for example his shock when he
realises that his Penguin lodger is actually the "Chicken" that has been robbing local banks, his
disguise? A red rubber glove. In my opinion these mixtures of comedy are funny without being
offensive to any cultural or ethnical groups. This means that both adults and children can enjoy "The
Wrong Trousers" as they can all take in something different from the film.
It is said that mans best friend is his Dog, and that leads me to a greatly influential character in the
Wallace and Gromit series, this of course being Gromit, the dog. I believe that his personification
has been cleverly done as it is not completely conspicuous, by this I mean that whilst Gromit is
granted Human qualities (such as the ability to read), his lack of a voice means that we do not
recognise him as a human, therefore leaving him with his canine status. Therefore, essentially
Gromit is a human yet isn't, he drinks tea, reads newspapers and even has his own dog specific

own film using ideas from Disney movies, but you should create your own clips. Even Though it's a
long shot and could take time, I think Faden should have tried to at contact Disney Studios.

Although the clips that Faden used were small snippets, he used plenty of them. He used clips from
multiple different movies like Monsters, Inc., The Little Mermaid, Toy Story and many more. Faden
should realize that what he did was wrong and, that he did take the work of someone else to create a
video. If Faden were to continue to make these videos, they could become super popular. This could
cause people to give credit to the wrong creator. Giving credit to Walt Disney and asking for
permission would have been the best idea. There are consequences for copyrighting work.
Sometimes there are large amounts of money you will have to pay as a fine. Since Faden didn't give
credit to Walt Disney Studios many people who might not have seen these Disney movies may think
Faden is the creator of the

Similarities Between Wall E And Wall-E
Quite possibly the worst way to judge WALL–E is as an archetypal animated or science–fiction
film. Directed by Pixar and animation industry veteran Andrew Stanton the movie has a story which
unravels with a poetic and emotional pull to rival any romantic–comedy since the turn of the
millenia.
Set on a futuristic earth, now completely desolate and transformed into a deserted wasteland, the
movie tells the story of a 700–year–old automaton and waste disposing machine, WALL–E, who
meets EVE – a vegetation and life searching robot.
Although multiple themes of religion, environmental conservation and friendship run deep through
the premise of the film; it is Stanton's unique twist on the "Beauty and the Geek" narrative that
ultimately resonates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bereft of dialogue; music was bound to play an integral part in WALL–E while soundtracks such as
Hello, Dolly which the titular character often listens to, and occasionally hums, succeed in casting a
smoke of nostalgia; they also serve as an anti–thesis to the ambience of the Axiom. While at the
spaceship audiences are treated to a more different and orchestra–like background score altogether
which not only establishes a leap into a more futuristic setting but also provides WALL–E and
EVE's blossoming romance with a cinematic appeal.
Throughout its 103 minute–long running time WALL–E manages to stay inventive in not only its
graphics but also its plot details. It serves as a warning of a desperate world in dire need of
rejuvenation. Although not as haunting in terms of realism in comparison to its Japanese
counterparts; WALL–E does hold out a mirror that allows the viewer to gape into the world of

Anime In America Research Paper

  • 1. Anime In America Research Paper Everyone knows each project has a process no matter how long or short it may be, with that said this will be a deep analysis on my project: Anime in America. I chose a topic revolving around anime mainly because I watch it and I wanted to do my project on something I found interesting. Another reason for my choice in topics is because I already knew about some of the things revolving around my thesis, my thesis being how America's encounter resulted in a sanitized, non–stereotyped and easily accessible form of media. Even though I had background information on my topic, researching it gave me material I could build upon and use to support the reasons behind my thesis. Now that you know the topic that this project is based on, it would probably be important for you to know where most of my information was derived from. Most the information used in this project came from my own background knowledge and the internet. Background knowledge on this topic was especially useful since it helped with figuring out what to focus on and building ideas. The format I chose for presenting my topic was the performance format due to the well–executed examples I've seen. Another reason for my choice in format was an Anime where at the end of each episode had a comedic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plenty of shows today are heavily influenced by anime and have done extremely well. Not only that but with the internet accessing anime is a lot easier, and finding subtitled versions is some peoples preferred way of watching it. Moving away from the act watching anime, there is plenty of merchandise with recognizable characters from anime on it, and are even conventions where people dress as their favorite characters (cosplay) the largest one being Anime Expo. To conclude anime has definitely impacted America and its pop culture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Stop Motion Animation Stop motion animation: Stop motion animation is when you take a picture of something, move it ever so slightly (depending on how smooth you want the sequence to be) then take another picture and so on and so on. The sequence of pictures will create an illusion of a moving image. When creating a stop motion animation it can either be done traditionally or a computer can be used to generate the background sets. Examples of stop–motion animation on TV are commonly children's shows such as Morph, Shaun the sheep, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noddy and Wallace and Gromit's World of Invention. The advantage of stop motion animation is that you can be creative because there aren't many limitations on what you can do with an object like you do in real life. The disadvantage is that it's very time consuming and extremely laborious and you have to make sure the camera's still because one little slip up shows very clearly. Clay animation: It is similar to stop motion animation however using clay. It works by capturing each frame and then playing the recorded shots to see a live action. Clay animation films were created in the 1908's, however it's in 1916 that it started to become popular overseas. Each clay character is produced by using a wire and clay, the wire is called an armature. The disadvantage of clay is that it's very fragile therefor when producing and shooting the characters and objects must not be altered by any smudges, hair or dust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Waltz With Bashir Analysis I choose the quote by Norman McLaren about animation with a segment from Waltz with Bashir starts from 35:50 to 37:31. Like McLaren's (1995) argument, "animation is not the art of drawings that move, but the art of movements that are drawn" (p.62), Waltz with Bashir is exactly corresponding with McLaren's opinion. The difference that we could distinguish animation from a drawing is the movement in it. Therefore what we really should look more into an animation are the moves instead of the frames. Waltz with Bashir gives a hard time to the critics that whether it counts as an animation or a documentary. The reason for this confusion is the amount of reality it contains, not only within the frames, but also within the movement each character has and between each frame, because "what happens between each frame is much more important than what exists on each frame" (McLaren, 1995, p.26). How it moves is much more than what is moving. When McLaren (1995) says, "animation is therefore the art of manipulating the invisible interstices that lie between frames" (p.26), again, he emphasize on the importance of the style, the structure, the pace and rhythm of the movements in animation– everything except for the things on each frame. If we could follow McLaren's instruction, we will easily see how Waltz with Bashir develops in a both realistic and cruel but also artistic and abstract way. The segment begins with Roni Dayag standing under a tree with his monologue saying: "I felt guilty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

"Disney rapidly expanded his studio operations to include a training school where a whole new generation of artists developed and made possible the production of the first feature–length cartoon, Snow White (1937)"(ANB). Most people wonder how Walt made so much money to develop his company further. As time came quickly in this period of time, Walt was able to accomplish more than planned. No one will ever reach where Walt was and even now. Walt was very successful leading and working with his co–workers and company. "Walt with much success created a character of his own with his brother Roy, Mickey Mouse"(ANB). Mickey Mouse was a part of the development of Walt's company. With much creativity, Walt and his brother created a character that funded most development. Walt Disney created a lot of animated characters, and he created films and cartoons too. This makes most understand why Walt should be considered a leader. "Mickey Mouse was very popular then, and now. Most remember who Walt is because of this character" (Historic Missourians). Mickey Mouse was the first character to have a voice in a cartoon. The voice actor specifically was Walt himself. This shows that Walt was more capable than just being a leader or owner of a company. Using the correct software is key because in a team must be able to easily transition a project from person to person without hassle. Some of the most common software used in the 3D industry are Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Photoshop, and After Effects ("3D Animation Careers: Job Description & Salary Information"). The poem even has an animation, that shows the animator, Juan Delcan of the group called "Spontaneous," and the animation shows his point of view on what the poem is and what it means to him. Billy Collins's poem "The Dead" uses many poetic devices throughout the poem. The whole poem is an open form poem, meaning that it has no specific style, such as rhyming. The poem also personified, as the dead are animated, and they seem to be alive as they look down on the people of earth. Billy Collins has also thrown in some alliteration, line two has two s–words and it is "shoes or making a sandwich. . .", the other example of alliteration that Collins put in was two b–words in line three "bottom boats of heaven. . ." throughout the poem, there is also examples of enjambment; as there is no break between lines. With the rapid spread of television in the 1960's, Japanese animators found a new way to sell their products. One of the first Japanese anime to see great success was Tetsuwan Atom also known as Astro Boy, seeing success in western countries such as the United States and Europe. Usually it's a helpless, victimized, female character that ends up falling madly in love with the hero. Kagero, a female ninja, best fits the description of this character. Because she is a ninja, she's not as helpless as some might imagine the "damsel–in–distress" character to be, but she is constantly victimized (helplessly raped twice by two different enemy demons) and is saved a countless number of times by Jubei. Sure enough, in the end, she falls in love with Jubei, the only man to ever steal her heart. The third main character type is "the enemy". The "head" antagonist, usually male, is a hideous monster in horror anime, and in action anime almost always possesses supernatural powers. He seems much more invincible and usually batters in the climax, but he always has a weakness for the hero to capitalize on. He is impure, immoral, unethical and, in short, evil. His heart has no remorse for his actions and for those suffering from them. The enemy, like the hero, is unknown to us and is gradually introduced throughout the story. The enemy of this story is Himuro Gemma. Gemma is a bisexual, immortal human with the ability to reincarnate himself. • 45. Memories And The Formation Of Reality In film, flashbacks are interruptions that take the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. They are often used to provide background and context to recount current events of a narrative filling in crucial backstories. In its basic form, the flashback is introduced when a presented image dissolves to another image of the past, which can be either as "a story–being–told or a subjective memory." (Turim, pg. 1) For example, dream sequences and memories are methods used to present flashbacks. They become visual representation to the audience as an act of remembering past experiences of reality. Imagination also plays an important role in shaping the mind and the story similar to memories and the formation of reality. Imagination is usually integrated into animation as an artistic creation to express the artists' ideas or memory. But where does the use of imagination and memories stop? For Many Parents, Racism Present in Disney/Pixar Films For many parents, these Disney/Pixar movies are something nice they can show to their children, they grew up on many of them and they wish to share this joy with their kids as well. If one was to walk up and tell them "These movies are fairly racist, you should show them to your children lest they get the wrong idea!" in most cases, they will find them to be just a closet nutcase and ignore that like it never happened. Society and these movies have conditioned the people so much that people cannot even identify the racism present, because when they see it, those cases are not seen in there head as unnatural but the opposite so then it fades into the background and unless asked to focus they probably ... This movie was mostly made to try to make those who were upset with urban life, more specifically whites who were upset, to leave it behind and join the plantation life (Terry, 471–2). This movie was more for the white audience, making the black slaves who are living on the plantation out to be happy, and that it's the dream place to be. This was of course not how it really was, it was a much darker situation then, especially for the "happy" blacks. The lead actor himself could not even come to watch his own movie, due to the segregation laws in place during that period. One common type of propaganda done by the media is usually dehumanizing the enemies during war times or just during times of tension between multiple countries. Usually it is newspaper comics or other similar media outlets, but what some people probably did not know if Disney made a few as well. They had made some during conflicts with Germany and Japan. A few examples would be such as "Der Fuehrer's Face (1943)", "Commando Duck (1944)", and Education of Death (1943)" which made the Axis enemies look like brainless fools (Young). The Japanese soldiers depicted in "Commando Duck" had weird glasses, giant buck teeth, and spoke in broken English while saying to each other "Its Japanese custom to shoot enemy in back". ... He did not follow the paths of his mother or father–Ronald and Ann, who were a teacher and an academic administrator. Instead, he got into animation, and came up with famous cartoons that are around and still very popular today. He always loved to draw cartoons, and this is evident because when he was only 2, he had drawn the commonly known Woody Woodpecker and Freddy Flintstone. Through high school, Macfarlane continued drawing and animating, and enrolled in Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied animation and video. He originally intended to work for Disney, but changed his mind after graduating. Though he worked on several animated shows, Seth Macfarlane felt dedicated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Swot Analysis : SWOT Analysis Of Piixar SWOT Analysis of Pixar Moe Si Oo B.S in Business Administration (Executive) BUS 610: Marketing University of Mary SWOT Analysis of Pixar Overview In 1974, Ed Catmull was hired to manage the Computer Graphic Lab (CGL) at the New York Institute of Technology. The CGL also hired a few other computer scientists who shared ambitions about creating the world's first computer animated film. In 1979, Ed Catmull and his team moved to the computer division at Lucasfilm. In 1986, Steve Jobs bought the computer division from Lucasfilm, paid $5million to George Lucas for technology rights and founded an independent company, Pixar. Steve Jobs joined the company's board of directors as chairman and Ed Catmull became the president of the company. In 1991, Pixar made a $26 million deal with Disney to produce three computer animated feature films. Pixar produced Toy Story, the first computer animated film in 1995. Since then the studio has produced eighteen computer animated feature films. In 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion and Pixar became Disney's subsidiary company. Strength Pixar's management has been one of the major strengths in its successful history. According to Ed Catmull, the company adheres to three main operating principles. The first one is that everyone must have the freedom to communicate with anyone. It means that decision making hierarchy and communication structure are two different things in this organization. Members from any department should be able to approach anyone from another department to solve problems without waiting for permission. It is the most efficient way to deal with numerous problems. The second one is that it must be safe for everyone to offer ideas. The company highly values "feedback", and they help make the ongoing projects perfect and give better solutions to the problems. The third one is that they must stay close to innovations happening in the academic community. Pixar strongly encourages its technical artists to publish their research and participate in conferences. This may give away ideas, but it can attract exceptional talents and reinforces the belief that people are more important than ideas (Catmull, 2008). Pixar offers it employees a wide range of ... • 63. Stop Motion Animation Stop–motion animation requires the shooting of physically manipulated still objects to appear as moving objects. Some use dolls, props or clay (also known as called Claymation) to sequentially move an object in between individually shot frames. Depending on the preference of the director, stop–motion animation may also require either traditional or computer animation to supplement the movie's other visual requirements such as the backgrounds, sets, and props. The disadvantage of clay is that it's very fragile therefor when producing and shooting the characters and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Fireflies ( 1988 ) Directed By Isao Takahata And Waltz... In America, most animated movies incite young audiences. The funny characters and feel–good script entertain children and also gives them moral lessons along the way. The same cannot be said for international films such as Grave of the Fireflies (1988) directed by Isao Takahata and Waltz with Bashir (2008) directed by Ari Folman. These animated films contrast each other, not only cinematically, but in the plotline as well. Wars replay over the main characters in each film, both inside and outside the war itself. The difference between civilians and soldiers, color and grayscale, dreams and reality create films which mesmerize the adult audience. Both anime and comic–book animation soften the audience's overwhelming emotions when facing the realities brought by war and help story–tellers create scenes with a specific purpose. The animation used in Grave of the Fireflies provides child–like imagination during World War II. Set in Japan, the plot follows two children torn away from their parents and struggling to survive on their own. By using anime, the children's harsh conditions seem unreal, yet powerful. If the director, or producers, used real actors and actresses to create Grave of the Fireflies, then the audience would find Setsuko and Seita's situation harder to swallow. Seeing real people ripped from their families and starving on the streets forces people to accept other realities different from their own. American audiences see how the air raids effected civilians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Thank You for Our Project, Jessica Hello again Jessica. I know I haven't exactly been keeping my promises on the due dates and I'm only fortifying the stigma that I touched on in my last email but I've still got a few questions. (Did you get my last email, by the way?) Anyway, would you just like me to submit what I have? I have well over two minutes and way more than five angles. Sound has also been added and mixed. The entire movie, however, is not finished. It should give you enough to grade or at least be a worthy placeholder until I can really submit a product I'm not totally disappointing with. I know it may be hard to even fathom what could possibly be taking so long but I've been mulling over several other things regarding this project. One of the reasons I can't seem to get anywhere and one of the areas I'm constantly getting hung up on is the nature and tone of the project itself. I wanted to establish a sort of creepy and unsettling mood for the project and I can't achieve what I was originally visioning in my head. Some of the animations employed simply seem to make their scene seem frivolous, silly, and awkward. I may spend up to an hour or two just trying to figure out how to make the seemingly insignificant feel "right." Another issue that I'm having is that there are several frame rate and "frame jump" mishaps that have occurred during the initial picture taking. Sometimes the character will "jump" from one shot to another and, subsequently, the scene appears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Created by Nick Park (a famous Animator) in 1993, "The Wrong Trousers" stars Wallace and Gromit in their second animated adventure (they were first introduced to British Viewers in 1990 in another Nick Park production "A Grand Day Out".) In this particular adventure we see how bad things can get when technology gets into the wrong hands... "The Wrong Trousers" was created by a clever technique called Clay Animation (Claymation). Also I think that comedy can be found due to the naïveté of Wallace, for example his shock when he realises that his Penguin lodger is actually the "Chicken" that has been robbing local banks, his disguise? A red rubber glove. In my opinion these mixtures of comedy are funny without being offensive to any cultural or ethnical groups. This means that both adults and children can enjoy "The Wrong Trousers" as they can all take in something different from the film. It is said that mans best friend is his Dog, and that leads me to a greatly influential character in the Wallace and Gromit series, this of course being Gromit, the dog. I believe that his personification has been cleverly done as it is not completely conspicuous, by this I mean that whilst Gromit is granted Human qualities (such as the ability to read), his lack of a voice means that we do not recognise him as a human, therefore leaving him with his canine status. Therefore, essentially Gromit is a human yet isn't, he drinks tea, reads newspapers and even has his own dog specific library of books but then he doesn't possess a voice. I think that ... Although Faden claims that the clips he took were fair use, I think he was out of line. Disney Studios is the creator of the movies that all these clips came from. I believe that taking someone's work and turning it into something for your own use, should be given permission. Fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and "transformative" purpose. After a certain amount of years copyright protection with expire. Directed by Pixar and animation industry veteran Andrew Stanton the movie has a story which unravels with a poetic and emotional pull to rival any romantic–comedy since the turn of the millenia. Set on a futuristic earth, now completely desolate and transformed into a deserted wasteland, the movie tells the story of a 700–year–old automaton and waste disposing machine, WALL–E, who meets EVE – a vegetation and life searching robot.
