Greek Easter traditions

1. Greek Orthodox Easter is probably the biggest
celebration of the year for most Greeks, with a lot
of special traditions and family gatherings. So, how
do Greeks celebrate Easter?

2. On Lazarous Saturday, children with basket
in hands sing for Lazarous

3. On “holy Wednesday “ we
colour the easter eggs.

4. We bake brioche “tsourekia”

5. On holy Friday the procession of
the bier of Christ takes place
( Epitaphios)

6. On suturday night we
celebrate the Resurrection
of Christ.

7. We crack the easter eggs.

8. In Corfu people throw huge clay pots
during the celebration of “Botides”

9. In Leonidio people make
giant Hot air balloons
“aerostata”
