This document provides information about Covid-19 including non-essential personnel restrictions, diagnosis, precautions for protection, treatment of Covid-19 patients, other respiratory illnesses, the importance of fit testing for N-95 masks, and isolation recommendations. It outlines measures to restrict visitors during community spread such as posting warning signs. It describes the symptoms of Covid-19 and factors for testing. It also discusses updated CDC guidelines changing Covid-19 from airborne to droplet precautions in most cases.

16. Non Essential Personnel Restrictions
During a 'community spread' event of COVID-19, visitor
access will be restricted by several different measures
which can include:
Posting warning signs & "stop" signs outside the facility
to describe the current policies for allowing visitors
If visitors are allowed, a screening method that
accounts for the individual's exposure risk and if they
are experiencing symptoms of illness

21. Diagnosis
Most patients with confirmed COVID-19 have developed a fever
and/or symptoms of acute respiratory illness, which may include
cough and difficulty breathing.
Epidemiologic factors that may help guide decisions on whether to
test include:
•any persons, including healthcare workers, who have had close
contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient within 14
days of symptom onset
•or a history of travel from affected geographic areas within 14
days of symptom onset.

23. Precautions for Protection
Recently updated CDC guidelines have downgraded
COVID-19 from Airborne Precautions to now Droplet
Precautions. However, there are some scenarios that call
for the use of Airborne Precautions. We will cover those
scenarios in the next two slides.

25. COVID-19 Patients (non-respiratory treatments)
During all lower-risk care (non-respiratory treatments), utilize droplet
precautions. This includes the utilization of surgical masks (or
procedure masks), eye protection, gowns, and gloves for patients
suspected or confirmed to have been infected by COVID-19.

26. OTHER RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES:
All clinical staff are recommended the use of PPE that includes surgical
masks and eye protection or face shield before administering any
respiratory treatment which may result in aerosolization of viral
particles to individuals NOT suspected of having COVID-19, but which
appear to have another respiratory viral infection.

27. It is important to note, all healthcare providers who are 'required'
to utilize an N-95 respirator face mask are required to
be medically cleared and go through 'Fit Testing' before using
this device. If you are taking an assignment that 'requires' an N-
95, please ensure that you are 'Fit Tested’ on the specific
respirator the healthcare facility is utilizing.

28. Isolate for Protection
As most non-hospital facilities are unlikely to have
airborne isolation rooms or negative pressure
rooms, if an individual meets the CDC definition of a
suspected case, it is recommended that facilities
place the individual in a single room with a closed-
door.
