Assignment Grading Rubric Course: LS308 Unit: 8 Copyright Kaplan University Unit 8 - Writing Assignment Richard L. Abel, former president of the Law and Society Association, once stated, “All law is inescapably two-faced. It reproduces and justifies existing inequalities and injustices; yet it also embodies ideals and offer mechanisms through which they can be pursued” (Barkan, 2009, p. 6). Last Unit, we learned how law can be effective in bringing about positive social changes. However, in this Unit, we explore the “uglier side of law” that promotes and fosters inequality. For this Assignment, you are going to draft a 2 page paper addressing the following: 1. Identify two laws in United States’ history that promoted inequality. Explain how these two laws promoted inequality. Do not use the laws discussed on the discussion board. 2. Identify one current law (from the last decade) that promotes inequality. Explain how this law promotes inequality. 3. In addition to your textbook, you must rely on and cite to three additional sources to support your assertions. In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the assignment, a successful paper must also meet the following criteria: Length of the paper should be 2 pages, excluding cover page and references. Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained. Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard American English(correct grammar, punctuation, etc.). Writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics.
