What Is The Rain Essay
The Rain
When it rains in the city most people in the city get out of sorts, the streets get waterlogged and the
traffic escalates. The children cannot go out to play and we have to stay home getting bored with
TV. My mother complains when we don't clean our shoes before we get into the house, the laundry
doesn't dry and our hair frizzes. But in the mountain range, the rain is welcomed with joy and ease.
It rains over there all year long. During the winter there is soft rain that can last all day but rarely
turns into storms; they are persistent sprinkles that fall through the fog and don't let you see beyond
your nose.
During the spring the rain is not that steady, there can be eight to fifteen days without any rain. But
once it starts, it appears as a storm with a lot of thunder and lightning that ... Show more content on

My aunt tells me that the cans that are left for a long time in the pantry oxidize with the damp
weather, they even empty because the tin sheet rusts. The books also recent the humidity, all the
paper sheets curl and sometimes when they are not often used, they get filled with mustiness.
Walking or riding in the fog is quite impressive because you can't see a thing around, everything is
blurred and only when you get closer you are able to distinguish the things. You can also perceive
the humidity when your hair starts dripping as if you were taking a shower. I have always thought
the fogs fills everything with magic, I imagine that in the white thickness of the fog there are
fantastic creatures, goblins, and amazing animals that can bump into you when you least expect it,

Acid Rain : The Discovery Of Acid Rain
Beginning with this phenomenons name, acid rain, it has always had an distinguishable pull of
attraction towards me. Commencing from the first time I heard about it in the years of my
elementary, I have always had a keen interest in this oddly named rain. One would think any type of
rain is beneficial to all natural living forms, but with my discovery of acid rain it seems not. Along
with my envisionment of what acid rain is, it has always been a grey area in my mind and thoughts.
Is the rain green? Does it have a smell? Does it sting? I have never had the chance to deeply indulge
myself into further studies and research on this such topic. For this reason I believe that this report is
an ideal occasion to begin and further my knowledge on acid rain. I will attempt to answer the
following questions, "what is acid rain?", "how does acid rain affect plants?" , " how does it affect
animals?", " does acid rain influence people's lives and health?", and finally "are there any ways to
prevent acid rain?". To conclude, I believe by answering these question, not only will I be more
knowledgeable and thoughtful of the earth and the rain cycle but I will finally feed the hunger I have
had for knowing what acid rain truly is. Upon further research, I discovered that Acid Rain is quite a
destructive phenomenon, and correctly embodies its given name; acid rain is the precipitation of
polluted acidic rain water. Acid rain has a high Acidic pH level, approximately 4.3 pH, due to two

Why Does It Rain?
Why Does It Rain? Back then, the all–mighty gods removed salt from ocean waters whenever
humans needed to use it. In return, the humans would constantly pray and sacrifice their meals to the
gods. It was a good system for a long time, but then, humans started to take advantage of the god's
kindness; they didn't pray as much and stopped sacrificing their meals. The gods weren't happy
about that. Therefore, they stopped providing the fresh water to humans and left the ocean water
salty. Sure the humans could boil the salt water, but it wasn't nearly fast enough for the growing
population. No matter how much the humans begged for freshwater, Zeus would not budge. The
land stayed like that for a long time, until a young hero of the name ... Show more content on

might become but he knows this is his destiny and he was going to follow through. He set out for
the Forbidden Swamp with determination in his eyes. As he reached the swamp, he saw one rocky
bridge with heaps of gators on each side. As he twisted his arm, slabs of raw meat pop out and the
gators hungrily battle for a slice. With that knowledge, he started twisting his arm as he navigated to
the other side. During his sprint, he made sure to grab about a dozen roses with his other arm. As he
reached the other side, he slowed down and placed the roses in his back pocket. Even with the high
spirit of not dying in the swamp, Enrique knew he had more coming. He started moving towards the
stairway to Cambo. When getting there, he is met with an extremely upset Lord Harrysus Styles.
That's when Enrique started pulling out his infamous knock–knock jokes. "Hey! Knock–knock!"
"Who's there?" asked the Lord "A broken pencil," Enrique replied "A broken pencil who?" the Lord
shoots back "Never mind, it's pointless!" joked Enrique. And with that, Lord Harrysus Styles
laughed so loud. His mouth opened revealing his

Technology In There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray Bradbury
Technology today has advanced and impacted our way of living and the dependence on it has
become a natural habit for our society. People today depend on their phones for numerous things
such as, talking, messaging, driving directions, surfing the web or even to update their current
Facebook status. Many people say that since they rely so heavily on technology, it has been known
to weaken our society's ability to open a book or newspaper to find information instead of looking at
your phone. Technology has become a crutch for our generation today and without it we would fail.
There have been inferences that technology will ruin us and lead us to extinction. In Ray Bradbury's
short story "There Will Come Soft Rains", he purveys speculation that technology is the cause of
downfall in society and that nature will outlast man's creation. August 4, 2026, in Allendale,
California, everything is made easy for the family who occupy a technologically advanced home
that caters to their every need. Every morning breakfast is made, the date is announced, information
is given on friends and bills that need to be paid. Little mice clean and do the chores around the
house. This all changed on August 4th when the house becomes eerily quiet, with no family insight.
The family is gone but silhouettes of a man, woman and two small children are painted alongside
the house. A nuclear explosion wipes out the city, the town is desolate with just rubble and ashes left
behind. A fire erupts and the

The Man To Send Rain Clouds Summary
The Man to Send Rain Clouds Readers Reaction This was quite an interesting story. There were
three sections to the story which broke the story in three different times in one day. The characters
were all very nonchalant except for the priest who showed some emotion when he found out that old
Teofilo died. The story kept our interest, however, it did not lead a very clear trail to the end, and
there was no real climax where we felt there was a good peak. The story needs to be read more than
once to really be appreciated. Plot Summary One • Teofilo is at the sheep camp in the arroyo when
he rests in the shade under a cotton tree and dies. • After Teofilo missing for a few days, Leon and

there. • Leon asks the priest tobring his "holy water to the graveyard," and the priest tells him he
could have "brought the last rights" if he had told him he was dead before. • Leon tells him it
wasn't necessary because they "just want him to have plenty of water" • The priest tells Leon that
he "can't do that, Leon. There should have been the last rights and a funeral mass at the very least,"
and then Leon politely starts to leave. • Before Leon can leave the priest decides he'd do it for him
anyway and goes to the graveyard with Leon. • The priest sprinkles holy water on Teofilo and
leaves. Then Leon finally feels "good because it was finished, and he was happy about the
sprinkling of the holy water, now the old man could send them big thunderclouds for sure."

Musical Analysis Of Singin In The Rain
Going over sextuple the budget, singin' in the rain has stood the test of time to be the best musical of
all time (IMDb). It contains notable songs that we still use today like Good Morning. The reason
why I picked the film for my scene analysis is because it was the first musical I actually enjoyed. I
also picked it because it was the latest film I watched and it is still fresh in my mind. The only part
that I did not like or did not get was the broadway musical part. It seemed like it was a time filler
and nothing else. The scene I am going to talk about is the one where the musical score "Singin' in
the rain" happens. I chose it because it is singin' in the rains most iconic scene. I also chose it since I
think it has a couple references and foreshadowing in the scene. This scene in singin' in the rain has
the theme of happiness. The scene starts with a long shot showing Kathy and Don saying goodnight
and flirting with each other. Their flirting right away shows that this is a happy scene. The flirting
ends with a kiss and Kathy goes inside their house. Don walks to the car with his arm out, looking at
the sky with a smile on his face. He tells his taxi driver to drive off and continues to walk in the rain.
He begins to sing "singin' in the rain" in the rain with a smile on his face. Most movies use the rain
for a sad, gloomy mood. In this scene, the rain is used to show happiness and determination. He puts
down and folds up his umbrella and continues walking and

Never Just Rain Analysis
Rain and other types of climate are also forces that Foster conveys as important to a plot or an entire
story. Rain is brought up in chapter 10 of his book and he states that rain is "never just rain". Rain
represents more than just rain, it shows life and fertility, purification, and shows different
atmospheres. To represent rain in a greater view, Foster uses the allusion of Noah and the flood to
show how the flood had came down from the sky and wiped almost everything off the earth and
when it ended, the earth was once again pure. Symbolically, Foster shows how rain can be used as a
sort of baptism that removes sin, like the Noah allusion because those who sinned were wiped from
the earth. However, at the end of it a rainbow appears promising peace. There is change as the earth
is restored to its power it once was before and the rainbow symbolizes that change. The earth was
reborn with that allusion Foster conveys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, I watched Shawshank Redemption, a story of a man, Andy Dufrene, that was accused of
murdering his wife and ended up in jail. His main focus is to escape the jail successfully. However,
he does this secretly and gains friends to help him out on his escape. When he finally gains the
resources to escape, he makes a hole to the outside of the prison and he successfully hides his hole
with a poster. As soon as he exits to the "real world", it is shown to be actually raining which adds
an "atmosphere and mood"(lxxvi). Although rain really looks like it represents sadness, in this scene
it shows happiness and actually purifies Andy. He is reborn as a new person with a new life as he
escapes. The rain really makes Andy reborn within the new world and he is represented as a new
person. After this scene, he is seen in a car driving on a road like a normal, free person would do. He
died as a prisoner and was reborn as a normal citizen of the

The Motif In Ray Bradbury's There Will Come Soft Rain
The motif in Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is rain itself. In the story the house has
come to life. The technology has taken over humanity in American culture. The house can clean
itself, cook, and pay bills. Even when the family is gone, the house still acts as if they live there still.
"The entire west face of the house was black, save for five places. Here the silhouette in paint of a
man... a woman... a small boy... a thrown ball... a girl, whose hands raised to catch a ball which
never came down." (324) The rain is one of the only things in the story that is not futuristic. Its
something one can still relate to. The motif, rain, is what brings us back to reality in a very futuristic
story. "Off to school, off to work, run, run,

Acid Rain Is Polluted Rain
Acid Rain
Acid rain is polluted rain. The pollutants go up to the atmosphere and when it rains it brings the
pollution down with it. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are the gases that form the acid rain. When
these gases mix with moisture it can make rain, snow, hail, or even fog. The scientific term for acid
rain is acid deposition which means when the acid is taken from the air and is deposited on the earth.
Major industries, coal burning factories, power plants and automoble engines are the main sources
of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide which caues acid rain. Volcaneoes and forest fires also causes
sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. Some of the many problems that come from acid rain is the
killing of of many plants and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the soil does not have enough acid in it, it may be made more acidic by the application of alum,
sulfur, or by adding gypsum to the soil. To add more acid to the soil you can also lift the plants and
replacing the whole bed to a depth of nine inches with acid soil.
It is not easy to make neutral soils acid. Sulfur is the most commonly used to increase the soils
acidity, but it acts very slowly. So acid rain is good for some plants in some places with alkaline soil
because some of the plants want acid. Some acid requiring plants are several popular shurbs,
including azalea, camelia, gardenias, blueberries, and rhododendron. Soils can be acid, alkaline, or
neutral. The amounts of alkaline and acid in the soil influence the biological and chemical processes
that take place in the soil. Highly alkaline or acid soils can harm many plants. Neutral soils can
support most of the processes. Florida's sandy soils are naturally acidic, but the soil is easily
changed from acid to neutral or even a base ( base is alkaline soil ) by the small amounts of lime and
calcium that come from tiny shells often found in the
Florida's sandy beaches. When acid rain falls from the sky it gets into the soil. The plants only have
time to absorb and store the water when the soil is wet. Then the leftover water in the soil evaporates
back into the sky where it becomes water vapor, forms into clouds, and gets ready to rain again. It is
the same thing with acid

Rain In Ray Bradbury's All Summer In A Day
Sadness is an emotion that many people feel. In Ray Bradbury's All Summer in a Day, the relentless
rain of Venus symbolizes the schoolchildren's woe. Margot stares at the deluge while in the
doldrums all day. The children also feel disappointed at the return of the downpour. Overall, Ray
Bradbury shows sadness through the symbolism of rain. One example of this is shown through a girl
named Margot. Margot is dismal while she is staring at the rain out of the window. However, some
say that the most important crafts in the tale are similes and metaphors. These craft moves make the
reader connect to the text. Near the finale of the story, the children are sorrowful as the rain returns.
This shows how the rain is linked to the negative feelings of the children. Ray Bradbury uses rain to
portray the student's woe in All Summer in a Day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Margot gazes out of the window to the drenched world that reflects the sorrow she feels inside. "But
she remembered and stood quietly apart from all of them and watched the pattering windows." After
years of rain, Margot becomes cheerless and frightened. "She was a very frail girl who looked as if
she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red
from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. One way that rainfall is used to portray depression is
through Margot.
On the other hand, metaphors and similes are important to the tale as well. These literary devices
help the reader connect to the text. "But they were running and turning their faces up to the sky and
feeling the sun on their cheeks like a warm iron..." Similes and metaphors also produce a vivid
image. "...With the sweet crystal fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were
like tidal waves come upon the islands." Similes and metaphors may be the most vital of literary

Descriptive Essay On Rain
As I sat on the damp earth of the woods and watched the first few raindrops of the day fall, a
realization struck me– there is absolutely nothing I can do about the weather. I referenced the
weather forecast and planned my outfit the night before; I wore a raincoat and plenty of layers.
Nonetheless, I quickly found myself shivering. I could not add layers in the woods of course, so
instead I focused on my surroundings to distract myself from the cold. I noticed that as the rain fell,
the potomac continued to run. The leaves of the plants around me did not try to resist the rain,
instead they dipped and gracefully returned to their proud stance with each raindrop, as though the
plants were respectfully bowing to the flat white sky above. The forest floor embraced the rain with
a quiet rhythm. The rain fell heavier, and with it the whole park seemed to come alive. It became
difficult to open my eyes with the rain so I started to squint. Then, when I was comfortable enough,
I closed my eyes completely and leaned into the smell of fresh earth and the sound of the rainy
symphony.
If I had not taken notice of my surroundings the field trip would have ended right there for me. Not
simply because it is unpleasant to be cold and wet, but because I would have been so focused on the
shift in plans that I would not have truly experienced the solo time. This school year has demanded a
lot more from me than others in terms of time management. I have to plan out every detail of every

The Role Of Snow In Summer Rain Case Study
The role or snow in the catchment The role of snow in the catchment is quite important. Although
the upper catchment is moderately wet, the lower catchment is extremely dry. In fact, the lower
catchment is one of the driest areas in New Zealand. It receives less than 400 mm of precipitation
annually. Thus, the snow is imperative because when it melts, it runs down into the lower catchment
and provides a water source that would not exist otherwise (because the lower catchment does not
receive much rain). Additionally, most of the farming occurs on the lower catchment, thus relying on
the irrigation from the melted snow source from the upper catchment.

The relation between climate change and irrigation–related withdrawals and how important they are
in determining the amount of water in the Lindis River The relation between climate change and
irrigation–related withdrawals is quite important. It is hard to separate the two and decide which one
is more imperative. With comparing that data above, I have concluded that the two are closely
related and significant to address. They are both play a large role in determining the amount of water
in the Lindis River. However, in my opinion, I think that irrigation might have slightly more urgency
due to the fact that there are abstractions in the irrigation and they are not tightly monitored.
Additionally, irrigation is easier to address do to the fact that it can be more controlled by humans
than climate change. Better irrigation systems can be put into place that control water flow more
accurately. Better management strategies can be developed in order to have a better structure of
employees and management chain. This better–controlled irrigation can lead to an improved handle
on the river water and less waste and uncertainty.

Analytical Essay-Theme Of Rain
I believe the significance to the reference of rain in the story, communicates the fact that nature is
uninterrupted by not only mankind ways of life, but their catastrophic disasters brought on by
nuclear destruction. In that, although this fictional world was apparently destroyed by a nuclear
attack, it didn't affect nature from continuing to function as normal. Furthermore, I would venture to
say that the writer was making a play on the fact that not only did nature continue as normal in the
midst of disaster, but the computerized home did so as well. In that, the computerized home
responded to the rain as if the inhabitants were still alive, and attempted to prepare the would be
residents, for the weather. The writer said, "Somewhere in the walls, relays clicked, memory tapes

nature continues in the midst of catastrophes and again so did the computerized house in that the

Aerosols Of Rain Case Study
Nature of Aerosols Effect on Cloud Cover and Precipitation over Central Gangetic Plain during

Abstract: The effect of aerosol on cloud cover and precipitation is one of the hot topics in the current
environmental scenario, especially during the drought conditions. The study presents the qualitative
assessment of microphysical and radiative effects of aerosols on cloud cover during the Indian

Introduction Aerosols are one of the key factors responsible for the climate change and influencing
the radiation budget of the earth. Columnar Aerosol loading (amount in the atmosphere) is usually
quantified by mass concentration (PM–Particulate Matter) or by an optical measure (AOD–Aerosol
Optical Depth). The effects of aerosols on atmosphere are mainly categorized into four types (Lau et
al., 2008). They are 1) aerosol direct effects, 2) aerosol Semi–direct effects, 3) first Indirect effects
and 4) the second Indirect effects. Direct effect of aerosols is the manifestation of dimming of solar
radiation by aerosols due to scattering and absorption. Due to blockage of incoming radiations, the
temperature in the lower levels of the atmosphere decreases and therefore, the convection process is
weakened which results in a thermodynamically stabilized atmosphere layer. This in turn, reduces
the humidity in the lower layers delaying the cloud formation (semi–direct effect). The first indirect
effect, which is also called Twomey Effect, explains the aerosol and cloud interactions at
microphysical scale (Twomey, 1977). The changes in aerosol concentrations (aerosols act as cloud
condensation nuclei (CCN)) can also alter the cloud albedo and reflectivity. The second indirect
effect deals with the

Ruby The Rain
"What are you doing? What are you doing? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?!" (Bergin 209).
The world is in shambles. The human race as we know it is in danger of extinction. All that is
certain is that it will rain. The pitter–patter of precipitation on a rooftop is enough to set tranquility
into even the most anxious of people; it is a soothing sound that many souls readily embrace.
However, even the rain has its dirty little secrets. In The Rain by Virginia Bergin, fifteen year–old
Ruby Morris must face an unrelenting terror from above. There is something in the rain – resilient,
sun–shaped bacteria that devour human flesh. After losing most of her friends and family to the rain,
Ruby makes it her goal to find her father no matter the cost. While ... Show more content on

Ruby's first lesson in survival is a list consisting of seven fundamental rules of survival ranging
from "DON'T GO OUT IN THE RAIN" (68) to "DON'T EAT ANYTHING THAT'S BEEN
OUTSIDE" (69). These guidelines are essential to survival, but what seems to be the most effective
is the rule simply labeled "THINK" (70). This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby takes into
account the most insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated into her
routine and she commits herself to thinking before she acts – a habit that saves her life on multiple
occasions. Ruby picks up on this change herself, stating late in that book that she "didn't just look
and decide 'Hey, it's not raining – let's go!' The newer version of the new [her] thought 'Nuh–uh'"
(329). On top of her cognitive abilities, Ruby learned that even she cannot bend and bow to the
needs of all. When faced with obstacles such as infected citizens, Ruby realizes that the sole sound
way to safely surmount them is to protect her party. Such a scenario is shown when she is promised
water by a haphazard group stationed at a public pool. Upon arrival, drunkards soak an innocent
man using tainted water, infecting him. He then falls directly into the pool, subsequently tainting the
large body of water. In order to avoid being infected, she gathers her party into a supply closet and
locks the door, ultimately condemning all on the opposite side of the barrier. Though charitable,
Ruby's compassion has a limit, and that limit is reached when the lives of her party are endangered
and her instincts take control. Hereafter, she uses her honed survival skills to guide her team to their

Acid Rain Formation
Acid Rain Formation The formation of acid rain occurs when particular gasses are dissolved into
rainwater which in turn creates acids. When precipitation is caught up in clouds, potent gasses are
capable of polluting the rainwater causing it to become extremely acidic. One of the most common
acids that is absorbed into the rain is sulfur trioxide. This acid is produced from the vast amount of
human activity on our earth. Nitrogen and sulfur are two main airborne elements that cause this
dangerous precipitation of acids. The scientific study of acid rain has brought researchers to believe
that sixty–five to seventy percent of acid rain formation is caused by sulfur dioxide. Various kinds of
nitrogen oxides cause the remaining percentage of acid rain occurrences. With the amount of
emissions released into the ozone, acid rain is becoming more and more of a problem for our
environment. When these pollutions react with rain, they form a dangerous product that can damage
forests and soil. This in turn makes the soil infertile, ruining our land. Power plants and other large
industries are releasing a harmful amount of SO2 in the atmosphere. These excess oxides that are
interacting with rain have to be cut down in order to start reducing the amount of acid rain fall
annually. When this acidic solution falls on areas with sea life and vegetation, it is found to kill fish,
larva, insects, plants, and many other organism. When these forms of life are exposed to this low of

Rain Motifs In Ray Bradbury's There Will Come Soft Rain
Overcast sky, dark wind, cold light, and gloomy actions are the characteristics and effects of a rainy
day. Rain is often the precursor to disaster in a story because of the natural feelings of sadness that it
brings. Therefore, it is appropriate that a rain motif should be present in "There Will Come Soft
Rains", written by Ray Bradbury. The rain makes a subtle but important appearance in the story,
which allows certain events and objects to express their feelings more adequately in the themes of
emptiness and the rising power of technology. The first appearance of rain is when the people of the
house are supposed to be leaving for work, "The weather box on the front door sang quietly: "Rain,

Perhaps more importantly, it is believed they have little understanding of their own emotions, or the
emotions of other people. There is a wide range of autism that exists. Some people are so autistic
they can almost do nothing for themselves, and are completely dependent on others for their
everyday needs. There are other autistics that are considered "high functioning," and thus are able to
do much on their own, although they may still be better off living in institutions that care for the
mentally disabled. Still other autistics are what are called "idiot savants," in that they have the
ordinary limitations of most autistics, but they also have special mental skills that are reflective of
pure genius. For example, in the case of Raymond, he appears to have both the memory and basic
math abilities of a computer, not a person. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects a child's
ability to communicate, understand language, play, and relate to others. A diagnosis of autistic
disorder is made when an individual displays 6 or more of 12 symptoms listed across three major
areas: social interaction, communication, and behavior. Some psychologists and psychiatrists go by
the "Mind–Blindness" theory, which basically asserts that an autistic person can't, by nature,
understand what another person is going through or what another person might be thinking.
According to the theory, autistic people only

Comparing Horses And Men In Rain
It falls into the dry land and replenish it back to life and serves it's job to clean and purify life.
Drizzling or pouring, rain is why humans are surviving, but some seem to think otherwise. In the
poems, Horses and Men in Rain and The Rainy Day show two different perspectives of how people
view rain. Although rain is needed in our world to survive, humans interpret the dark and gloomy
weather in many ways.
To many, rain is stunning to witness, how the sky can change its color like one can change their
mood in a split of a second. In the poem Horses and Men in Rain by Carl Sandburg, it shows the
many bright aspects of the dark sky. This type of weather is where people want to stay home and be
with someone they love, cozied up by a fire. Also, the poet showed that rain can signify bravery.
"...and men called "knights" riding horses in the rain, in the cold frozen rain for ladies they loved."

To other individuals, once they witness a dark cloud rolling into the sky, a dark cloud rolls into their
minds as well. Sometimes human's feelings and moods seem to want to match with the condition it
is outside."The day is cold, and dark, and dreary" The poet also uses these exact words for the
second stanza, but to describe the person's life, "My life is cold, and dark, and dreary." This signals
that the individual is comparing their life to the rainy weather. The poet describes the rain from a
pessimistic point of view, unlike the first poem. The poem also shows how life can change just like
the weather. It is revealed to be this way in the last stanza as the person talks about how the sun is
always there even when the cloud is covering it. "Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must
be dark and dreary" This quote shows that life can't always be perfect and there will be some days
that must be

"Weather is almost always symbolic. Rain serves to set the mood, or it acts as a cleansing. It

things, the sadness and emptiness she felt of losing her mother, the cleansing of proceeding to not
feel trapped in her hatred birth given family anymore, and as she moves forward to a better life as
she continues to follow her desires. Due to her aunt and father removing Rachel from the picture
during that emotional time the Shilsky family was going through, all because she chose to live her

What Is The Meaning Of The Man To Send Rain Clouds
The first reading of Leslie Marmon Silko's short story "The Man to Send Rain Clouds" can seem sad
and a little depressing. Where the story that is initially thought to start with the topic of death,
finishes with a larger meaning, morals. After repeated reading and a good understanding of "The
Man to Send Rain Clouds", a person would see an underlying meaning of an honest priest who does
something against his better knowledge and beliefs to help a Native American family in the
community. An old Indian man is found underneath a cottonwood tree where Leon, the protagonist,
discovers him. Originally the reader did not know the dead man was a Native American man, but
after facial descriptions of the man when Leon was painting his face, which was part of an Indian
ritual, gave obvious examples of his ethnicity. Leon and his ... Show more content on

Farewell To Arms Rain
The Negative Connotation of Rain Rain brings life to the earth, ending drought and watering crops.
However, Ernest Hemingway uses rain as a much more negative symbol in A Farewell to Arms. In
the first chapter of the novel, rain is immediately established as a sign of bad things to come. Then,
it is raining right before Henry's friend warns him that the Italian police are coming to arrest him.
Thirdly, rain comes in at the end of the novel at the same time that Catherine is close to giving birth,
foreshadowing that something bad will happen to her. From these three points, it is clear that
Hemingway portrays rain as a symbol that foreshadows negative events in Henry's life. Firstly, rain
is subtly established in the first chapter as the cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After spending some months in their snowy cabin in Switzerland, Catherine is finally just a month
away from labour. The decision is made when the rain comes: "'Let's see how the weather turns out.'
It rained for three days. The snow was all gone now on the mountain–side below the station. The
road was a torrent of muddy snow–water. It was too wet and slushy to go out. On the morning of the
third day of rain we decided to go into town." (Hemingway 263). The rain is what causes them to
move into the town where Catherine dies in labour. Also, the description of the rain being so
miserable gives a very melancholy feeling to the reader. Henry mentions that the rain prevented
them from going out, reinforcing that rain has a direct negative effect on their lives. In the article "A
Farewell to Arms", Keith Neilson further expands on Hemingway's use of rain: "Hemingway
associates the plains and rain with death, disease, and sorrow; the mountains and the snow with life,
health, and happiness. Catherine and Henry are safe and happy in the mountains, but it is impossible
to remain there indefinitely. [...] When Catherine and Henry descend to the city, it is, in fact, raining,
and she does, in fact, die." (Neilson 3). This further shows the rain's foreshadowing of negative
events because of how it coincides with Henry and Catherine moving to the city. Also, there are
other natural symbols such as the snow, mountains, and plains that act with and against rain. Since
this shift to rainy weather coincides with Catherine being a month away from going into labour, it
foreshadows her and their daughter's death at the end of the novel. In summary, rain foreshadows
Catherine's death when it coincides with Catherine being close to

Rain In New York City
What comes to mind when you think of the rain? In the bustling world of New York City, it seems
like anything that falls out of the sky is a direct adversary to the never–ending schedules of our
lives. Though our collective view of the rain may be as dark and dense as the sky it falls from, there
is much more significance and hope in the wet dread than we can see. By taking natures biggest
nuisance and bringing it into the city that simply doesn't have time for rain, we can find a new
dimension for understanding beauty.
In waking up and meeting a rainy day, the immediate reaction is to groan. We're taught in our
English classes to associate rain in literature with tragic foreboding and gloom––so what else can we
do but stare out of our windows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It might seem like we don't have time, but the time this city rules itself by is an intangible
manifestation––a simple social construct that even the best of us should take a break from regularly.
The rain's physical aestheticism lies in our own ability to unwind and forget about life's daily
pressures and, in turn, reveal a calm, almost meditative side of us that can absorb and comprehend
the world more deeply. When we leave our stresses and daily toil behind us, we allow ourselves to
broaden our perception of the world. By taking a moment to relax, forgetting about how wet our
clothes will be later, putting away the thought of how difficult traveling will be, leaving behind the
negativity the very rain can inspire in us, we can more fully appreciate the fact that we are alive to
see the world in its natural wonder from the comfort of the greatest city in the world. The gunmetal
sky is suddenly a silvery veil hugging crowding towers, and the watery bullets endless blessings.
Rain patters on the ground, a sweet, rhythmic song that soothes the mind, reminding you that it's
okay to take a breather in your hectic life––the rain is not out to get you. Its there to remind you of

There Will Come Soft Rains Essay
The purpose of the story, "There Will Come Soft Rains" is to teach that technology can be created
and used by the human society, and even outlive it, but it can never overcome nature. The story is
set in the future and in a house with a robot. The robot says out loud the schedule of the family that
lives in the house, which is a family of 4, throughout the story, but the fact is that there is no one in
the house because based on quotes like " And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing", which
lets the reader know that no one is home. It soon goes on to saying that "This was the one house left

This demonstrates that what humans created, the robots, can also be outlived by it. Towards the end
of the story, "a cigar popped out, half an inch of soft gray ash on it, smoking, waiting", was what led
to a massive fire in the house. "'Fire, fire, fire!' The house tried to save itself", the robot knew there
was a fire, but there was nothing it could since it was just a piece of technology. This reveals that
what nature created, in this case a fire, not even technology can control or conquer it. There were
many literary devices used throughout the story. Repetition would be one of them because the robot
in the house would say the time of day many times in the story, and it reinforces the idea that the
technology humans created was well thought of. When the vision of a nuclear bombing came in the
story, the allusion of the atomic bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan in World War II

Acid Rain : The Cause And Effects Of Acid Rain
One hundred twenty years ago the British scientific August Smith, just focus his studies on air in
Manchester, England, he created a network of monitoring the quality of rain in northern Europe,
where he recognized acid rain. During the last ten years, acid rain have been an important cause of
concern because it continues to pollute large areas of our planet. Acid rain occurs (following the
direction of the link) in the areas of important industrial emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and
nitrogen oxides (NOx).
The first time this problem was raised in a forum was in 1972 during the United Nations Conference
in Stockholm. The objective of that meeting was to raise the issues about the Environment. The
government of Sweden presented a report which spoke of the pollution of the air that came from
some countries by the wind, where high concentrations of sulfur were generating the rains with acid.
These oxidized sulfur compounds came from the thermal plants of Great Britain. In addition, they
said that this pollution damaged the ecosystems generating the contamination of lakes and water
through acid rain or snowfall with much sulfuric acid.
Effects of Acid Rain
The effects of acid rain can be devastating (in a long run) from the acidification of rivers, lakes and
seas that would not be able to permit aquatic life, to the death of plant life in entire forests.
Manmade products, like monuments and buildings, wear out more easily with acid rain. Many
damages have happened because of this. For example statues and monuments made of marble or
limestone, are destroyed with acid rain.
Acid rain does not directly kill plants and trees, but acts through certain mechanisms that weaken
them, making them more vulnerable to wind, cold, drought, diseases and parasites. Acid rain sulfate
reduces methane in wetland areas, which also potentiates the greenhouse effects that global warming
and climate change, which we are so afraid of today, has been potentiating.
Effects in terrestrial ecosystem
Nowadays acid rain is one of the factors that cause serious depletion of forests in northern Europe
and the USA. Acid precipitation changes the chemistry of soils; this causes the elimination of
vegetation. In addition, many minerals that

There Will Come Soft Rains Essay
"There Will Come Soft Rains" is a short story written by Ray Bradbury, telling about a advanced
technological house after a nuclear blast had killed everyone. The house still went on doing its daily
actions even though no one was there. Since the house was completely ran by technology it could
not think to stop this process. Bradbury uses this as a theme. We are told this story from an outside
perspective of each action. You first find out that there is no humans in the house when the house
calls for breakfast and school at eight–one, "but no doors were slammed, no carpets took the soft
thread of rubber heels." "The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car," but again
no one was there. The story then goes on telling us about a wall were "...five spots of paint– the
man, the woman, the children, and the ball–reamined." It is explained that the man was mowing a
lawn, the woman was bent to pick flowers, and the kids were ... Show more content on

Bradbury uses this to develop the theme that technology will out live humans. The house was the
only thing left except for the house is a lone, skinny dog covered in sores comes into the house at
twelve noon "...yelping to each door, at [last] realizing, as the house realized, that only silence was
here." Bradbury uses personification here because a house is an inadament object that can not
realize something. Soon the house is left alone because the dog dies at two–fifteen. With the house
now being the only character and being ran by technology you do not see it change throughout the
story other than the house having "mechanical paranoia" causing it to shut the windows and doors
tight. As Bradbury tells the story he says the exact time each thing happened, like an alarm going off
each day, because the house cannot think for itself to stop. The house continues on with the normal
routine telling Mrs. McClellan a random poem at

Singing in the Rain: A Musical Romance The Titusville Playhouse presented a captivating
adaptation of Gene Kelly's "Singing in the Rain", a 1952 film by MGM. Though there are quite a
few differences between the original film and the theatre adaption, the heart of the play sings true to
the plot of the film. Having seen the film and clips of the Broadway versions myself, I can say that
the Titusville Playhouse did a remarkable job in their rendition of Singing in the Rain. I was
enthralled by everything, from the plot and dedication to the theme, characterization of the cast, to
all that encompassed the Mise en scene.
The plot of Singing in the Rain combines a delightful stew of romance, comedy, song and dance.
The play is set in 1927, at a turn in the film industry from silent film to sound, and is centered
around Don Lockwood, Lina Lamont, and Kathy Selden. The main characters are played,
respectively, by Patrick Sullivan, Laura Mansoon, and Tiffany Trill. Don and Lina are a rather
famous, yet fake celebrity couple. They forge a sham relationship for the sake of good publicity. In
actuality, Don is not at all interested in Lina, though she believes the relationship to be genuine.

Rain's Bitter Touch
The year is 2026 there is not a soul to be seen. In Ray Bradbury's short story "There Will Come Soft
Rains." The clock is always ticking but is never heard. It is a dreary day filled with a steady drizzle
of rain. All the humans are gone ,but life still goes on. The rain is slowly destroying the house. The
only occupant is the lonesome dog. Since the house is not tended to it is slowly fading. Machine is

There has been a nuclear holocaust that has stricken life from the world. While the house still stands
humanity has fallen. All throughout the day the rain is constant and unyielding. A rainy day can
depress anyone. When there is no one to see the rain, what is it then? It is just flat out lifelessness.
The recurrence in this story is the rain. "And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing."

Rain or Shine
Weather was used as a literary technique throughout the novel of Thomas C. Foster. It is not yet
explained until the ninth chapter titled "Its More Than Just Rain or Snow". He begins with a very
common line among stories; "It was a dark and stormy night." This ensures the same response from
all readers. Rain can be used to add dramatic effects to a scene which is why we all have the same
negative reaction to the phrase. The main idea Foster is trying to explain is that rain never means
rain. We sense that rain is always to be associated with negative feelings and or outcomes. Foster
explains that there is much more to it.

This would be the lesser side of snows purpose to literature. It can also be used as a source of hope.
Snow actual can be useful if you are to bury yourself in it. It works as an insulator which can be
used to give a positive vibe by the written scenes involving it.
We have covered rain and snow. There's one that has been left out; fog. So far we have been blessed
with both rain and snow having negative and positive reflections on the scene. That is not the case
with this one. Fog is used to express uncertainty. The thicker the fog the less you can see literally but
in a figurative way an author can use it to show a tough decision needing to be made by a character
or an undetermined future or path. It can spark fear in the eyes of those surrounded by it. We, being
human, re scared of the unknown. Fog is the perfect way to display this lack of knowledge through
the use of weather. It blocks the light. We know that all things bad lie within darkness but the
problem is that we do not know what specifically is within it. This gives the author a chance to
direct the story in a new direction. It is an escape route in a way. Authors can use fog to divert the
characters in a different direction which results in an overall change of the plot.
There's more to weather than just cloudy days. The sun can be used to describe a sort of happiness
given off by a character. It can be used to show a positive take on an altered path. You can say that

Acid Rain
INTRODUCTION: The dictionary definition of acid rain is "'rainfall made so acidic by atmospheric
pollution that it causes environmental harm, chiefly to forests and lakes. The main cause is the
industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulphur and
nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water to form acids." In Northern Europe and
North America millions of trees have died because of the causes of acid rain. Some lakes contain so
much acid that all the fish have died and the birds that relied on this fish for food have left. Acid rain
also speeds up the rusting of iron and building made of marble, limestone and concrete have been
severely affected. It is because of these reasons that acid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, the sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere reduces the amount of
methane in the air. Some new studies show that the sulphur dioxide in acid rain counteracts with the
natural productions of methane gas and therefore reducing the amount of methane in the air by 30%
and this is because of 'sulphur–eating bacteria' that live in wetlands (where most methane is
produced) which outcompete with methane emitting bacteria. PERSONAL OPINION: In my
opinion I think that acid rain is a huge problem. Even though it is not a problem in Australia but in
Europe and North America there have been records of acid rain in Sydney. The fact that acid rain is
killing our plant and animal life because of what WE have emitted into the atmosphere is not good
enough. We are a part of the cause just as much as we can be a part of the solution. This goes for
global warming as well. If we can buckle down and try to stop producing so much excess gases in
our factories than we will significantly reduce the amount of acid rain falling in our environment.

Cat in the Rain
Basically, this short story by Ernest Hemingway is about an American couple vacationing in Italy,
the second romantic country of the world after France (well in my opinion). It is raining and the
wife sees a cat in the rain and wants to protect it from the rain, which is odd because usually
children are the one sensitive and naïve enough to want to protect animals from such a thing as the
rain since it is not harmful to animals. Only human beings get a cold when standing out in the rain
not animals! Her husband, laying on the bed reading, makes a poor less attempt to offer his help
which can be interpreted as neglect. He tells her (line 9):" I 'll do it" still lying on the bed. She

So it might not entirely be her husband 's fault since she also ignores his compliments: "You look
pretty darn nice," he said. She laid the mirror down on the dresser and went over to the window and

VS the Italian way; Americans are perceived here as people desiring material objects and then
getting tired of them, and then we have the Italians who come at the same place for a different
purpose which is to see the war memorial thus honor the dead. Here Italians are perceives as people
who care about people and not having possessions; they rather honor the dead than stay inside and
read. To sum up, this story is about a couple in crisis because they are not on the same levels: one is
already a man and the other still a girl. We cannot say for a fact that the American wife is neglected
since it is really unclear whether it is that she is neglected or just too demanding but one thing is
sure, her husband makes no attempts to change things. They have to realize that they have a problem
or else their love will die like the raindrops on the

Acid Rain : What Is Acid Rain?
What Is Acid Rain?
In common parlance, acid rain is just what the words man – rainfall that is acidic in nature.
However, in scientific terms it has a winder connotation. So, what is acid rain? Any way by which
acid falls out of the atmosphere is considered to be acid rain. It can be dry or wet. Acidic gases or
particles are referred to as dry deposition, whereas acid rain, snow and fog constitute the wet
deposition. Be it particles, snow or gases, they can be termed as acidic if only they have a higher
concentration of hydrogen ions (i.e. pH of less than 4) than usual. But what causes acid rain ad what
are its effects on our planet? Let's consider this environmental issue that has become a serious
concern for environmentalists the world over.
What Causes Acid Rain?
Sulfur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen are the gases that cause acid rain to form. These gases can rise
high above into the atmosphere. Here they combine with water vapor, oxygen and other chemicals
to form acid rain.
Human activity is the main cause of acid rain. Burning of fossil fuels is the primary source of these

Analysis on the Man to Send Rain Clouds
The Man to Send Rain Clouds
Readers Reaction
This was quite an interesting story. There were three sections to the story which broke the story in
three different times in one day. The characters were all very nonchalant except for the priest who
showed some emotion when he found out that old Teofilo died. The story kept our interest, however,
it did not lead a very clear trail to the end, and there was no real climax where we felt there was a
good peak. The story needs to be read more than once to really be appreciated.
Plot Summary One
• Teofilo is at the sheep camp in the arroyo when he rests in the shade under a cotton tree and dies.
• After Teofilo missing for a few days, Leon and Ken come looking for him and find that he "had

Style and Tone
The author's language is concrete, and for the most part pretty easy to understand. The reading is
short, and very descriptive. The author uses descriptive adjective, she wants you to image exactly
where the story takes place, and what is happening.
The author uses a lot of imaginary devices. The author uses similes, metaphors, and repetition.
 "And the water fell through the light from the sundown like August rain that fell while the
sun was still shining." Obviously, that's a simile
 "The people stood close to each other with little clouds of steam puffing from their
faces."
The clouds of steam puffing from their faces, represents the weather, and how cold it is outside.
The author repeats the word pueblo a lot. She is reminding the reader that the story takes place in a
Native American culture.
The sentences are predominantly short but descriptive. They are punctuated and grammatically
correct, but the structure of the story isn't formal. The author uses a lot of conversation, and many
paragraphs. The author also divides the story into three chapters, even though the story takes place
in a short period of time. The chapters aren't really necessary.
The author's tone is detached from the story. There isn't any emotion expressed, the story is really a
series of events. As a reader, I didn't feel any specific strong emotion.

Essay on the setting of "there will come soft rains"
Essay on the setting of "August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury In "August
2026: There Will Come Soft Rains", a short story by world renown author Ray Bradbury, the
narrator tells the story of a house in Allendale California, in the year 2026. The setting in this short
story is very particular; it is set in a post–apocalyptic world that most likely illustrates the aftermath
of a devastating nuclear war. The story takes place over the course of one day: "August 4, 2026".
The house that is described to the reader is the last house left standing, it's deserted and surrounded
by rubbles but it's still technologically intact. The setting in this story takes a major role, it provides
insight into the story, it facilitates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The house's efficiency and helpfulness seem to make it cold and emotionless and the fact that it lives
on after its inhabitants have passed just proves how the house is only a machine that is unable to
love, this house will always be a house but it will never be a home. While the plot and the theme are
always very significant, a reader should never forget the importance of the setting in a story. This
short story is a perfect example of the importance of the setting, since it is through it that the reader
is able to truly understand the author's message and intensions. It is through the description of a
post–apocalyptic world, a city in ruins and the last house standing, that the reader is able to truly
understand the

Acid Rain
Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the northeastern United
States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also occurs in other parts of the world as
well (Baker & Schofield, 1982). The acidification on the surface of water causes many fish
populations to decline in soft–water aquatic environments, that are exposed to acid precipitation
(Neville & Campell, 1988). This acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain
or otherwise known as acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic
components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the atmosphere in wet or dry
forms. These forms include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused
by when sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then
transported by wind and air currents. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygen
and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water and other
materials before falling into the ground. A small portion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can
cause acid rain from natural sources like volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil
fuel (Feely, et al., 2010). Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated
towards acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived from
coal–fired

What Makes Rain So Magical

  • 1. What Is The Rain Essay The Rain When it rains in the city most people in the city get out of sorts, the streets get waterlogged and the traffic escalates. The children cannot go out to play and we have to stay home getting bored with TV. My mother complains when we don't clean our shoes before we get into the house, the laundry doesn't dry and our hair frizzes. But in the mountain range, the rain is welcomed with joy and ease. It rains over there all year long. During the winter there is soft rain that can last all day but rarely turns into storms; they are persistent sprinkles that fall through the fog and don't let you see beyond your nose. During the spring the rain is not that steady, there can be eight to fifteen days without any rain. But once it starts, it appears as a storm with a lot of thunder and lightning that ... Walking or riding in the fog is quite impressive because you can't see a thing around, everything is blurred and only when you get closer you are able to distinguish the things. You can also perceive the humidity when your hair starts dripping as if you were taking a shower. I have always thought the fogs fills everything with magic, I imagine that in the white thickness of the fog there are fantastic creatures, goblins, and amazing animals that can bump into you when you least expect it, especially in the evenings when the darkness adds to the ... • 3. Acid Rain : The Discovery Of Acid Rain Beginning with this phenomenons name, acid rain, it has always had an distinguishable pull of attraction towards me. Commencing from the first time I heard about it in the years of my elementary, I have always had a keen interest in this oddly named rain. One would think any type of rain is beneficial to all natural living forms, but with my discovery of acid rain it seems not. Along with my envisionment of what acid rain is, it has always been a grey area in my mind and thoughts. Is the rain green? Does it have a smell? Does it sting? I have never had the chance to deeply indulge myself into further studies and research on this such topic. For this reason I believe that this report is an ideal occasion to begin and further my knowledge on acid rain. I will attempt to answer the following questions, "what is acid rain?", "how does acid rain affect plants?" , " how does it affect animals?", " does acid rain influence people's lives and health?", and finally "are there any ways to prevent acid rain?". To conclude, I believe by answering these question, not only will I be more knowledgeable and thoughtful of the earth and the rain cycle but I will finally feed the hunger I have had for knowing what acid rain truly is. Upon further research, I discovered that Acid Rain is quite a destructive phenomenon, and correctly embodies its given name; acid rain is the precipitation of polluted acidic rain water. Acid rain has a high Acidic pH level, approximately 4.3 pH, due to two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why Does It Rain? Why Does It Rain? Back then, the all–mighty gods removed salt from ocean waters whenever humans needed to use it. In return, the humans would constantly pray and sacrifice their meals to the gods. It was a good system for a long time, but then, humans started to take advantage of the god's kindness; they didn't pray as much and stopped sacrificing their meals. The gods weren't happy about that. Therefore, they stopped providing the fresh water to humans and left the ocean water salty. Sure the humans could boil the salt water, but it wasn't nearly fast enough for the growing population. No matter how much the humans begged for freshwater, Zeus would not budge. Good luck, young one." After Demeter finished her instructions, she passed him the robotic arm to put on and the red lifesaver. Then, she was gone. Enrique was on his own now. Enrique was quite scared for what might become but he knows this is his destiny and he was going to follow through. He set out for the Forbidden Swamp with determination in his eyes. As he reached the swamp, he saw one rocky bridge with heaps of gators on each side. As he twisted his arm, slabs of raw meat pop out and the gators hungrily battle for a slice. With that knowledge, he started twisting his arm as he navigated to the other side. During his sprint, he made sure to grab about a dozen roses with his other arm. As he reached the other side, he slowed down and placed the roses in his back pocket. Even with the high spirit of not dying in the swamp, Enrique knew he had more coming. He started moving towards the stairway to Cambo. When getting there, he is met with an extremely upset Lord Harrysus Styles. That's when Enrique started pulling out his infamous knock–knock jokes. "Hey! Knock–knock!" "Who's there?" asked the Lord "A broken pencil," Enrique replied "A broken pencil who?" the Lord shoots back "Never mind, it's pointless!" joked Enrique. • 7. Technology In There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray Bradbury Technology today has advanced and impacted our way of living and the dependence on it has become a natural habit for our society. People today depend on their phones for numerous things such as, talking, messaging, driving directions, surfing the web or even to update their current Facebook status. Many people say that since they rely so heavily on technology, it has been known to weaken our society's ability to open a book or newspaper to find information instead of looking at your phone. Technology has become a crutch for our generation today and without it we would fail. There have been inferences that technology will ruin us and lead us to extinction. In Ray Bradbury's short story "There Will Come Soft Rains", he purveys speculation that technology is the cause of downfall in society and that nature will outlast man's creation. August 4, 2026, in Allendale, California, everything is made easy for the family who occupy a technologically advanced home that caters to their every need. Every morning breakfast is made, the date is announced, information is given on friends and bills that need to be paid. Little mice clean and do the chores around the house. This all changed on August 4th when the house becomes eerily quiet, with no family insight. The family is gone but silhouettes of a man, woman and two small children are painted alongside the house. A nuclear explosion wipes out the city, the town is desolate with just rubble and ashes left behind. A fire erupts and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Musical Analysis Of Singin In The Rain Going over sextuple the budget, singin' in the rain has stood the test of time to be the best musical of all time (IMDb). It contains notable songs that we still use today like Good Morning. The reason why I picked the film for my scene analysis is because it was the first musical I actually enjoyed. I also picked it because it was the latest film I watched and it is still fresh in my mind. The only part that I did not like or did not get was the broadway musical part. It seemed like it was a time filler and nothing else. The scene I am going to talk about is the one where the musical score "Singin' in the rain" happens. I chose it because it is singin' in the rains most iconic scene. I also chose it since I think it has a couple references and foreshadowing in the scene. This scene in singin' in the rain has the theme of happiness. The scene starts with a long shot showing Kathy and Don saying goodnight and flirting with each other. Their flirting right away shows that this is a happy scene. The flirting ends with a kiss and Kathy goes inside their house. Don walks to the car with his arm out, looking at the sky with a smile on his face. He tells his taxi driver to drive off and continues to walk in the rain. He begins to sing "singin' in the rain" in the rain with a smile on his face. Most movies use the rain for a sad, gloomy mood. In this scene, the rain is used to show happiness and determination. • 13. Never Just Rain Analysis Rain and other types of climate are also forces that Foster conveys as important to a plot or an entire story. Rain is brought up in chapter 10 of his book and he states that rain is "never just rain". Rain represents more than just rain, it shows life and fertility, purification, and shows different atmospheres. To represent rain in a greater view, Foster uses the allusion of Noah and the flood to show how the flood had came down from the sky and wiped almost everything off the earth and when it ended, the earth was once again pure. Symbolically, Foster shows how rain can be used as a sort of baptism that removes sin, like the Noah allusion because those who sinned were wiped from the earth. However, at the end of it a rainbow appears promising peace. There is change as the earth is restored to its power it once was before and the rainbow symbolizes that change. The earth was reborn with that allusion Foster conveys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, he does this secretly and gains friends to help him out on his escape. When he finally gains the resources to escape, he makes a hole to the outside of the prison and he successfully hides his hole with a poster. As soon as he exits to the "real world", it is shown to be actually raining which adds an "atmosphere and mood"(lxxvi). Although rain really looks like it represents sadness, in this scene it shows happiness and actually purifies Andy. He is reborn as a new person with a new life as he escapes. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are the gases that form the acid rain. When these gases mix with moisture it can make rain, snow, hail, or even fog. The scientific term for acid rain is acid deposition which means when the acid is taken from the air and is deposited on the earth. Major industries, coal burning factories, power plants and automoble engines are the main sources of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide which caues acid rain. Volcaneoes and forest fires also causes sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide. Some of the many problems that come from acid rain is the killing of of many plants and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the soil does not have enough acid in it, it may be made more acidic by the application of alum, sulfur, or by adding gypsum to the soil. To add more acid to the soil you can also lift the plants and replacing the whole bed to a depth of nine inches with acid soil. It is not easy to make neutral soils acid. Sulfur is the most commonly used to increase the soils acidity, but it acts very slowly. So acid rain is good for some plants in some places with alkaline soil because some of the plants want acid. Some acid requiring plants are several popular shurbs, including azalea, camelia, gardenias, blueberries, and rhododendron. Soils can be acid, alkaline, or neutral. The amounts of alkaline and acid in the soil influence the biological and chemical processes that take place in the soil. Highly alkaline or acid soils can harm many plants. Neutral soils can support most of the processes. Florida's sandy soils are naturally acidic, but the soil is easily changed from acid to neutral or even a base ( base is alkaline soil ) by the small amounts of lime and calcium that come from tiny shells often found in the Florida's sandy beaches. When acid rain falls from the sky it gets into the soil. The plants only have time to absorb and store the water when the soil is wet. Then the leftover water in the soil evaporates back into the sky where it becomes water vapor, forms into clouds, and gets ready to rain again. It is the same thing with acid ... In Ray Bradbury's All Summer in a Day, the relentless rain of Venus symbolizes the schoolchildren's woe. Margot stares at the deluge while in the doldrums all day. The children also feel disappointed at the return of the downpour. Overall, Ray Bradbury shows sadness through the symbolism of rain. One example of this is shown through a girl named Margot. Margot is dismal while she is staring at the rain out of the window. However, some say that the most important crafts in the tale are similes and metaphors. These craft moves make the reader connect to the text. Near the finale of the story, the children are sorrowful as the rain returns. This shows how the rain is linked to the negative feelings of the children. Ray Bradbury uses rain to portray the student's woe in All Summer in a Day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descriptive Essay On Rain As I sat on the damp earth of the woods and watched the first few raindrops of the day fall, a realization struck me– there is absolutely nothing I can do about the weather. I referenced the weather forecast and planned my outfit the night before; I wore a raincoat and plenty of layers. Nonetheless, I quickly found myself shivering. I could not add layers in the woods of course, so instead I focused on my surroundings to distract myself from the cold. I noticed that as the rain fell, the potomac continued to run. The leaves of the plants around me did not try to resist the rain, instead they dipped and gracefully returned to their proud stance with each raindrop, as though the plants were respectfully bowing to the flat white sky above. The forest floor embraced the rain with a quiet rhythm. The rain fell heavier, and with it the whole park seemed to come alive. It became difficult to open my eyes with the rain so I started to squint. Then, when I was comfortable enough, I closed my eyes completely and leaned into the smell of fresh earth and the sound of the rainy symphony. If I had not taken notice of my surroundings the field trip would have ended right there for me. Not simply because it is unpleasant to be cold and wet, but because I would have been so focused on the shift in plans that I would not have truly experienced the solo time. Although the upper catchment is moderately wet, the lower catchment is extremely dry. In fact, the lower catchment is one of the driest areas in New Zealand. It receives less than 400 mm of precipitation annually. Thus, the snow is imperative because when it melts, it runs down into the lower catchment and provides a water source that would not exist otherwise (because the lower catchment does not receive much rain). Additionally, most of the farming occurs on the lower catchment, thus relying on the irrigation from the melted snow source from the upper catchment. They are both play a large role in determining the amount of water in the Lindis River. However, in my opinion, I think that irrigation might have slightly more urgency due to the fact that there are abstractions in the irrigation and they are not tightly monitored. Additionally, irrigation is easier to address do to the fact that it can be more controlled by humans than climate change. Better irrigation systems can be put into place that control water flow more accurately. Better management strategies can be developed in order to have a better structure of employees and management chain. In that, although this fictional world was apparently destroyed by a nuclear attack, it didn't affect nature from continuing to function as normal. Furthermore, I would venture to say that the writer was making a play on the fact that not only did nature continue as normal in the midst of disaster, but the computerized home did so as well. The study presents the qualitative assessment of microphysical and radiative effects of aerosols on cloud cover during the Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) months of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 over the highly polluted central gangetic plain by using the Absorption Fraction Feedback (the AFF) model. The results from the ancillary data analysis were also in agreement with results of the AFF model. Introduction Aerosols are one of the key factors responsible for the climate change and influencing the radiation budget of the earth. Columnar Aerosol loading (amount in the atmosphere) is usually quantified by mass concentration (PM–Particulate Matter) or by an optical measure (AOD–Aerosol Optical Depth). The effects of aerosols on atmosphere are mainly categorized into four types (Lau et al., 2008). They are 1) aerosol direct effects, 2) aerosol Semi–direct effects, 3) first Indirect effects and 4) the second Indirect effects. Direct effect of aerosols is the manifestation of dimming of solar radiation by aerosols due to scattering and absorption. Due to blockage of incoming radiations, the temperature in the lower levels of the atmosphere decreases and therefore, the convection process is weakened which results in a thermodynamically stabilized atmosphere layer. This in turn, reduces the humidity in the lower layers delaying the cloud formation (semi–direct effect). The first indirect effect, which is also called Twomey Effect, explains the aerosol and cloud interactions at microphysical scale (Twomey, 1977). The changes in aerosol concentrations (aerosols act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN)) can also alter the cloud albedo and reflectivity. The second indirect effect deals with the ... This is put in place in order to ensure that Ruby takes into account the most insignificant of details before she makes decisions. It is incorporated into her routine and she commits herself to thinking before she acts – a habit that saves her life on multiple occasions. Ruby picks up on this change herself, stating late in that book that she "didn't just look and decide 'Hey, it's not raining – let's go!' The newer version of the new [her] thought 'Nuh–uh'" (329). He then falls directly into the pool, subsequently tainting the large body of water. In order to avoid being infected, she gathers her party into a supply closet and locks the door, ultimately condemning all on the opposite side of the barrier. • 36. Acid Rain Formation Acid Rain Formation The formation of acid rain occurs when particular gasses are dissolved into rainwater which in turn creates acids. When precipitation is caught up in clouds, potent gasses are capable of polluting the rainwater causing it to become extremely acidic. One of the most common acids that is absorbed into the rain is sulfur trioxide. This acid is produced from the vast amount of human activity on our earth. Nitrogen and sulfur are two main airborne elements that cause this dangerous precipitation of acids. The scientific study of acid rain has brought researchers to believe that sixty–five to seventy percent of acid rain formation is caused by sulfur dioxide. Various kinds of nitrogen oxides cause the remaining percentage of acid rain occurrences. With the amount of emissions released into the ozone, acid rain is becoming more and more of a problem for our environment. When these pollutions react with rain, they form a dangerous product that can damage forests and soil. This in turn makes the soil infertile, ruining our land. Power plants and other large industries are releasing a harmful amount of SO2 in the atmosphere. These excess oxides that are interacting with rain have to be cut down in order to start reducing the amount of acid rain fall annually. Although rain is needed in our world to survive, humans interpret the dark and gloomy weather in many ways. To many, rain is stunning to witness, how the sky can change its color like one can change their mood in a split of a second. In the poem Horses and Men in Rain by Carl Sandburg, it shows the many bright aspects of the dark sky. • 48. Farewell To Arms Rain The Negative Connotation of Rain Rain brings life to the earth, ending drought and watering crops. However, Ernest Hemingway uses rain as a much more negative symbol in A Farewell to Arms. In the first chapter of the novel, rain is immediately established as a sign of bad things to come. Then, it is raining right before Henry's friend warns him that the Italian police are coming to arrest him. Thirdly, rain comes in at the end of the novel at the same time that Catherine is close to giving birth, foreshadowing that something bad will happen to her. From these three points, it is clear that Hemingway portrays rain as a symbol that foreshadows negative events in Henry's life. Firstly, rain is subtly established in the first chapter as the cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After spending some months in their snowy cabin in Switzerland, Catherine is finally just a month away from labour. The decision is made when the rain comes: "'Let's see how the weather turns out.' It rained for three days. The snow was all gone now on the mountain–side below the station. The road was a torrent of muddy snow–water. It was too wet and slushy to go out. On the morning of the third day of rain we decided to go into town." (Hemingway 263). The rain is what causes them to move into the town where Catherine dies in labour. Also, the description of the rain being so miserable gives a very melancholy feeling to the reader. Henry mentions that the rain prevented them from going out, reinforcing that rain has a direct negative effect on their lives. In the article "A Farewell to Arms", Keith Neilson further expands on Hemingway's use of rain: "Hemingway associates the plains and rain with death, disease, and sorrow; the mountains and the snow with life, health, and happiness. Catherine and Henry are safe and happy in the mountains, but it is impossible to remain there indefinitely. [...] When Catherine and Henry descend to the city, it is, in fact, raining, and she does, in fact, die." (Neilson 3). This further shows the rain's foreshadowing of negative events because of how it coincides with Henry and Catherine moving to the city. Also, there are other natural symbols such as the snow, mountains, and plains that act with and against rain. Since this shift to rainy weather coincides with Catherine being a month away from going into labour, it foreshadows her and their daughter's death at the end of the novel. • 53. Rain In New York City What comes to mind when you think of the rain? In the bustling world of New York City, it seems like anything that falls out of the sky is a direct adversary to the never–ending schedules of our lives. Though our collective view of the rain may be as dark and dense as the sky it falls from, there is much more significance and hope in the wet dread than we can see. By taking natures biggest nuisance and bringing it into the city that simply doesn't have time for rain, we can find a new dimension for understanding beauty. In waking up and meeting a rainy day, the immediate reaction is to groan. We're taught in our English classes to associate rain in literature with tragic foreboding and gloom––so what else can we do but stare out of our windows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It might seem like we don't have time, but the time this city rules itself by is an intangible manifestation––a simple social construct that even the best of us should take a break from regularly. The rain's physical aestheticism lies in our own ability to unwind and forget about life's daily pressures and, in turn, reveal a calm, almost meditative side of us that can absorb and comprehend the world more deeply. When we leave our stresses and daily toil behind us, we allow ourselves to broaden our perception of the world. By taking a moment to relax, forgetting about how wet our clothes will be later, putting away the thought of how difficult traveling will be, leaving behind the negativity the very rain can inspire in us, we can more fully appreciate the fact that we are alive to see the world in its natural wonder from the comfort of the greatest city in the world. The gunmetal sky is suddenly a silvery veil hugging crowding towers, and the watery bullets endless blessings. There Will Come Soft Rains Essay The purpose of the story, "There Will Come Soft Rains" is to teach that technology can be created and used by the human society, and even outlive it, but it can never overcome nature. The story is set in the future and in a house with a robot. The robot says out loud the schedule of the family that lives in the house, which is a family of 4, throughout the story, but the fact is that there is no one in the house because based on quotes like " And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing", which lets the reader know that no one is home. This demonstrates that what humans created, the robots, can also be outlived by it. Towards the end of the story, "a cigar popped out, half an inch of soft gray ash on it, smoking, waiting", was what led to a massive fire in the house. "'Fire, fire, fire!' The house tried to save itself", the robot knew there was a fire, but there was nothing it could since it was just a piece of technology. This reveals that what nature created, in this case a fire, not even technology can control or conquer it. There were many literary devices used throughout the story. Repetition would be one of them because the robot in the house would say the time of day many times in the story, and it reinforces the idea that the technology humans created was well thought of. • 57. Acid Rain : The Cause And Effects Of Acid Rain One hundred twenty years ago the British scientific August Smith, just focus his studies on air in Manchester, England, he created a network of monitoring the quality of rain in northern Europe, where he recognized acid rain. During the last ten years, acid rain have been an important cause of concern because it continues to pollute large areas of our planet. Acid rain occurs (following the direction of the link) in the areas of important industrial emissions of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The first time this problem was raised in a forum was in 1972 during the United Nations Conference in Stockholm. The objective of that meeting was to raise the issues about the Environment. The government of Sweden presented a report which spoke of the pollution of the air that came from some countries by the wind, where high concentrations of sulfur were generating the rains with acid. These oxidized sulfur compounds came from the thermal plants of Great Britain. In addition, they said that this pollution damaged the ecosystems generating the contamination of lakes and water through acid rain or snowfall with much sulfuric acid. Effects of Acid Rain The effects of acid rain can be devastating (in a long run) from the acidification of rivers, lakes and seas that would not be able to permit aquatic life, to the death of plant life in entire forests. Manmade products, like monuments and buildings, wear out more easily with acid rain. Many damages have happened because of this. For example statues and monuments made of marble or limestone, are destroyed with acid rain. Acid rain does not directly kill plants and trees, but acts through certain mechanisms that weaken them, making them more vulnerable to wind, cold, drought, diseases and parasites. Acid rain sulfate reduces methane in wetland areas, which also potentiates the greenhouse effects that global warming and climate change, which we are so afraid of today, has been potentiating. Effects in terrestrial ecosystem Nowadays acid rain is one of the factors that cause serious depletion of forests in northern Europe and the USA. Acid precipitation changes the chemistry of soils; this causes the elimination of vegetation. In addition, many minerals that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. There Will Come Soft Rains Essay "There Will Come Soft Rains" is a short story written by Ray Bradbury, telling about a advanced technological house after a nuclear blast had killed everyone. The house still went on doing its daily actions even though no one was there. Since the house was completely ran by technology it could not think to stop this process. Bradbury uses this as a theme. We are told this story from an outside perspective of each action. You first find out that there is no humans in the house when the house calls for breakfast and school at eight–one, "but no doors were slammed, no carpets took the soft thread of rubber heels." "The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car," but again no one was there. The story then goes on telling us about a wall were "...five spots of paint– the man, the woman, the children, and the ball–reamined." It is explained that the man was mowing a lawn, the woman was bent to pick flowers, and the kids were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The house was the only thing left except for the house is a lone, skinny dog covered in sores comes into the house at twelve noon "...yelping to each door, at [last] realizing, as the house realized, that only silence was here." Bradbury uses personification here because a house is an inadament object that can not realize something. Soon the house is left alone because the dog dies at two–fifteen. With the house now being the only character and being ran by technology you do not see it change throughout the story other than the house having "mechanical paranoia" causing it to shut the windows and doors tight. As Bradbury tells the story he says the exact time each thing happened, like an alarm going off each day, because the house cannot think for itself to stop. Though there are quite a few differences between the original film and the theatre adaption, the heart of the play sings true to the plot of the film. Having seen the film and clips of the Broadway versions myself, I can say that the Titusville Playhouse did a remarkable job in their rendition of Singing in the Rain. I was enthralled by everything, from the plot and dedication to the theme, characterization of the cast, to all that encompassed the Mise en scene. The plot of Singing in the Rain combines a delightful stew of romance, comedy, song and dance. The play is set in 1927, at a turn in the film industry from silent film to sound, and is centered around Don Lockwood, Lina Lamont, and Kathy Selden. The main characters are played, respectively, by Patrick Sullivan, Laura Mansoon, and Tiffany Trill. Don and Lina are a rather famous, yet fake celebrity couple. They forge a sham relationship for the sake of good publicity. In actuality, Don is not at all interested in Lina, though she believes the relationship to be genuine. Foster. It is not yet explained until the ninth chapter titled "Its More Than Just Rain or Snow". He begins with a very common line among stories; "It was a dark and stormy night." This ensures the same response from all readers. Rain can be used to add dramatic effects to a scene which is why we all have the same negative reaction to the phrase. The main idea Foster is trying to explain is that rain never means rain. We sense that rain is always to be associated with negative feelings and or outcomes. So far we have been blessed with both rain and snow having negative and positive reflections on the scene. That is not the case with this one. Fog is used to express uncertainty. The thicker the fog the less you can see literally but in a figurative way an author can use it to show a tough decision needing to be made by a character or an undetermined future or path. It can spark fear in the eyes of those surrounded by it. We, being human, re scared of the unknown. Fog is the perfect way to display this lack of knowledge through the use of weather. It blocks the light. We know that all things bad lie within darkness but the problem is that we do not know what specifically is within it. This gives the author a chance to direct the story in a new direction. It is an escape route in a way. Authors can use fog to divert the characters in a different direction which results in an overall change of the plot. There's more to weather than just cloudy days. The sun can be used to describe a sort of happiness

The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulphur and nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water to form acids." In Northern Europe and North America millions of trees have died because of the causes of acid rain. Some lakes contain so much acid that all the fish have died and the birds that relied on this fish for food have left. Acid rain also speeds up the rusting of iron and building made of marble, limestone and concrete have been severely affected. It is because of these reasons that acid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere reduces the amount of methane in the air. Some new studies show that the sulphur dioxide in acid rain counteracts with the natural productions of methane gas and therefore reducing the amount of methane in the air by 30% and this is because of 'sulphur–eating bacteria' that live in wetlands (where most methane is produced) which outcompete with methane emitting bacteria. PERSONAL OPINION: In my opinion I think that acid rain is a huge problem. Even though it is not a problem in Australia but in Europe and North America there have been records of acid rain in Sydney. The fact that acid rain is killing our plant and animal life because of what WE have emitted into the atmosphere is not good enough. We are a part of the cause just as much as we can be a part of the solution. This goes for global warming as well. If we can buckle down and try to stop producing so much excess gases in our factories than we will significantly reduce the amount of acid rain falling in our environment. BIBLIOGRAPHY: 2014, G. It is raining and the wife sees a cat in the rain and wants to protect it from the rain, which is odd because usually children are the one sensitive and naïve enough to want to protect animals from such a thing as the rain since it is not harmful to animals. Only human beings get a cold when standing out in the rain not animals! Her husband, laying on the bed reading, makes a poor less attempt to offer his help which can be interpreted as neglect. Here Italians are perceives as people who care about people and not having possessions; they rather honor the dead than stay inside and read. To sum up, this story is about a couple in crisis because they are not on the same levels: one is already a man and the other still a girl. We cannot say for a fact that the American wife is neglected since it is really unclear whether it is that she is neglected or just too demanding but one thing is sure, her husband makes no attempts to change things. • 75. Acid Rain : What Is Acid Rain? What Is Acid Rain? In common parlance, acid rain is just what the words man – rainfall that is acidic in nature. However, in scientific terms it has a winder connotation. So, what is acid rain? Any way by which acid falls out of the atmosphere is considered to be acid rain. It can be dry or wet. Acidic gases or particles are referred to as dry deposition, whereas acid rain, snow and fog constitute the wet deposition. Be it particles, snow or gases, they can be termed as acidic if only they have a higher concentration of hydrogen ions (i.e. pH of less than 4) than usual. But what causes acid rain ad what are its effects on our planet? Let's consider this environmental issue that has become a serious concern for environmentalists the world over. What Causes Acid Rain? Sulfur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen are the gases that cause acid rain to form. These gases can rise high above into the atmosphere. Here they combine with water vapor, oxygen and other chemicals to form acid rain. Human activity is the main cause of acid rain. Burning of fossil fuels is the primary source of these gases. With increase in industrialization and number of vehicles running on the roads, fumes that contain these gases are being added to the atmosphere at such a rate that the excess of these gases can't be neutralized by natural process. For example, combustion of fossil fuel in vehicles and industries like iron and steel, processing of crude oil and utility factories contribute to more than 70% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 81. Acid Rain Acidification of the surface of the water is a major problem in areas of the northeastern United States, in eastern Canada, and in southern Scandinavia, it also occurs in other parts of the world as well (Baker & Schofield, 1982). The acidification on the surface of water causes many fish populations to decline in soft–water aquatic environments, that are exposed to acid precipitation (Neville & Campell, 1988). This acidification of the surface water is caused by acid rain. Acid rain or otherwise known as acid deposition is a term that includes any form of precipitation with acidic components, such as sulfuric or nitric acid that comes down from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms. These forms include rain, snow, fog, hail or even dust that can be acidic. Acid rain is caused by when sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are put into the atmosphere and then transported by wind and air currents. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. These chemicals then mix with water and other materials before falling into the ground. A small portion of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides can cause acid rain from natural sources like volcanoes, but most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuel (Feely, et al., 2010). Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the major sources associated towards acid rain. Atmospheric deposition of the sulfur and nitrogen molecules is derived from coal–fired ...
