river, the tortoise made a small hole in the
ground and waited for them.
After a while, the tortoise noticed that five of
the hippo’s wives had moved ahead along with
the hippo, leaving behind two wives. The
tortoise quickly came out of his hole and buried
himself half into the sand leaving the other half
exposed.
While the two wives were walking, the first wife
accidentally bumped her feet against the shell
of the tortoise. She immediately cried out loud,
“Oh Isantim, my dear husband, please come
and help me. I have hurt myself.”
The tortoise finally heard the name of the hippo
and went home happily.
The next time when the hippo organised one of
his usual feasts, the tortoise told the hippo that
now he knew his name. The hippo asked him to
say his name. The tortoise asked the hippo to
promise that he would not hurt the tortoise
upon hearing his name. The hippo promised so.
“Isantim is your name,”the turtle said loudly. All
the guests at the feast cheered loudly at the
tortoise and sat down to enjoy their meal.
As per the promise, the hippo left with his seven
wives after the feast. He went into the nearby
river and started living there and never
returned to land. Since then, hippos can be
seen on the land only at night, while they stay
underwater all day long.
A very long time ago, there was a
hippopotamus named Istanim. He was one of
the biggest animals on the land just next to the
elephant and was thus considered the king. The
hippo had seven fat wives and loved all of them
very dearly. He often organized lavish feasts for
his people. Though all the people of the area
knew the hippo, none other than his seven
wives knew his real name.
One day, the hippo organised one of his regular
feasts. Just when all the guests sat down for the
lavish dinner, the hippo said,“Only those of you
who know my name can enjoy the feast.”
Everyone looked at each other’s face and no
one knew the name of the hippo. So all of them
had to go home leaving the delicious spread
and the lovely wine.
Just before they all left, the tortoise asked the
hippo, what he would do if the tortoise
managed to guess the hippo’s name at the next
feast. The hippo replied,“If you can find out my
name before the next feast, I would leave the
land along with my seven wives and dwell in
the water forever.”
The tortoise was aware that every day the
hippo and his seven wives went to the river to
drink water and wash themselves. The hippo
walked first with the seven wives following him.
One such day, when the hippo along with his
seven wives had gone for a bath in the nearby

The Crow And The Pitcher
Find the Hidden Animals
Patience and ingenuity
The want of natural means supply.
A thirsty crow some water found,
But in a vessel so profound,
That with her neck at utmost stretch,
A single drop she could not reach.
Then stones she in the pitcher places,
Which to the top the water raises;
And by this innocent device
Her thirst at leisure satisfies.

Sam Visits
the Green
Lake
Discover a New Place
I'm at this amazing lake in Styria, Austria that needs one to dive underneath in order
to get to the underwater park!
The lake is totally dry for half of the year, during the winter months. But as the season
changes, the temperatures begin to rise, causing the snow to melt and the melted
snow from the Hochshwab Mountains starts flowing down the valley.
The water fills up the Green Lake and during peak summer months the lake can have
water as deep at 30 feet! So what is so bizarre about this lake?
Here the lake is formed with an underwater park which is filled with roads, bridges,
meadows and trails- all submerged beneath this beautiful lake!
During the winter season the lake is almost not visible or has only 1-2 meter deep
water.
The Green Lake gets its name from its distinctive green color from the green grass
and foliage beneath. The ice water is crystal clear, making the green foliage and the
park visible from the surface of the lake. Even though the temperature of the lake
remains 4 to 8 degree centigrade, it is very famous among divers who come especial-
ly to dive and visit the underwater park.
June is the best month when the alpine grass and flowers are in full bloom underwa-
ter. There are also benches to sit and bridges to walk on under the water!

The origin of the word, 'abbreviation' is
actually fairly short. It started with “brevis”
whichisLatinfor“short”andalsotherootof
“brief”.Butthenhowdiditgettobecomeso
long? “Ab” was added to “breviare” to make
it“abbreviare”,averbmeaning“toshorten”.
Then it got converted to a noun by adding
“-ionem”attheendbecoming“abbreviatio-
nem” which means “something that has
been shortened”. Then the “em” was
removed and voila! Isn't that explanation
way too long for the word abbreviation?

'abbreviation' means 'short',
but itself is such a long word!
There are many organic natural remedies available to help soothe inflamed and
itchy skin -
Menthol :
Menthol is an oil which produces a cooling effect when applied to the skin. It can be
found in peppermint oil. However, it is important to remember to adequately dilute
it. 2 to 3 drops of peppermint oil can be mixed into a carrier oil such as almond or
coconut. The easiest way to apply the oil is to transfer it to a spray bottle and spray it
on the itchy and affected area.
Tea Tree Oil :
Tree tea oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and works best when com-
bined with a carrier oil. It is a fairly strong oil and it is recommended that it be
washed off after leaving it on the skin for two hours. It works well when combined
with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, castor oil or argan oil.
Apple Cider Vinegar :
Apple Cider Vinegar is well known when it comes to the effects it has on the human
body.Try finding apple cider vinegar which comes with the 'mother'. This is nothing
but apple cider vinegar which is unrefined and a little murky. It means that the vine-
gar is unprocessed and is loaded with good bacteria. Combine the vinegar with
water in a 1:1 ratio. Apply this to an itchy scalp and allow it to dry. Then wash it off
using lukewarm water.

Earthworms-A Farmer's Friend
comic story
7
Martin heard his mother shriek. She was staring at over thirty
earthworms crawling on the bathroom floor. “Quick Martin! Bring
some salt. I will sprinkle it on the
earthworm and they will die,” she screamed.
Martin said, “No mother, don’t kill them please! They are harmless.
I promise I will get rid of them!”
8
Martin carefully picked the earthworms up and
placed them in a box.
He took them to a patch of land in the garden that his
father didn’t use and released
them in the ground.
In the evening, Martin went to Eeshan’s place to study. He told
Eeshan that his father was going to take part in a gardening
contest. Eeshan said, “My father has a book on gardening.
Let’s go and check it out.”
9
As Eeshan was flipping through the pages of the book his eyes fell on a
chapter title, “Earthworm, a Farmer’s Friend.” He said, “Martin! Here it says
that an earthworm is a farmer’s friend because they turn the soil and
large pieces of organic matter and
make the soil fertile. This helps in
making the plants grow naturally
and well.”
Martin took the earthworms out of the patch in his home carefully,
and placed them inside the pot of the tomato plant. Over a week the
tomatoes had grown into plump and healthy fruits and were ready
for the contest.
On the day of the contest, Martin, Eeshan and Martin’s
mother saw Martin’s father return with the trophy.
He thanked Eeshan and Martin
for making this possible.
Can We Measure Beauty?
To understand if beauty is measurable, let us first understand the terms,‘measure’and‘beauty’. Measure-
mentmeans,todefinesomethinginaclearandprecisewayandbeautyreferstothequalityofbeingpleas-
ing, especially to look at.
Thedebateon‘Whatmakessomethingorsomeonebeautiful?’hasbeengoingonforcenturies.Theearliest
Western theory of beauty can be found in the works of Greek philosopher Pythagoras who saw a strong
connection between mathematics and beauty. This was the time when It was believed that proportionate
and symmetrical objects were more attractive. This definition is still held as relevant by many, so in that
manner we can say that beauty can be measured.
The question then arises of whether beauty is universal. The painting of Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci is
considered beautiful and so is Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. What do they have in common? What makes them
both beautiful despite the lack of symmetry?
A combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, arrangement that pleases the senses, be it sight
or sound makes something beautiful. It is also found that people around the world find different music,
visual art, performance, and physical attributes to be beautiful. It’s on the basis of those considerations that
many believe that beauty is a label we attach to different sorts of experiences based on a combination of
cultural and personal preferences.
So the saying,‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’used to express the fact that not all people have the
same opinions about what is attractive and pleasing, holds true.

Martin spoke, “Einstein Iyengar helps so many people in need,
wouldn’t he help my father?” Everyone laughed and Martin’s
father treated them at a restaurant.
The family of hippos lived near the edge of the river Nile. They were 5
members in all - a mother, father, a little baby hippo and his old grandpa
hippo. Now grandpa hippo was quite old and very forgetful. He would
often lie down far away from his family and fall into deep sleep. One
morning he woke up and realized he could find no one!

Facts About Hippos
An adult hippo needs to resurface every 3 - 5 mins to breathe. The process of surfacing and
breathing is automatic, and even a hippo sleeping underwater will rise and breathe without
waking.
The name‘Hippopotamus’comes from the Ancient Greek‘river horse’.
Hippos bask in the sun and secrete an oily red substance, which is a skin moistener and
sunblock that may also provide protection against germs.
Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it can easily outrun most humans.

After a while, the tortoise noticed that five of the hippo’s wives had moved ahead along with the hippo, leaving behind two wives. The tortoise quickly came out of his hole and buried himself half into the sand leaving the other half exposed. While the two wives were walking, the first wife accidentally bumped her feet against the shell of the tortoise. She immediately cried out loud, “Oh Isantim, my dear husband, please come and help me. I have hurt myself.” The tortoise finally heard the name of the hippo and went home happily. The next time when the hippo organised one of his usual feasts, the tortoise told the hippo that now he knew his name. The hippo asked him to say his name. The tortoise asked the hippo to promise that he would not hurt the tortoise upon hearing his name. The hippo promised so. “Isantim is your name,”the turtle said loudly. All the guests at the feast cheered loudly at the tortoise and sat down to enjoy their meal. As per the promise, the hippo left with his seven wives after the feast. He went into the nearby river and started living there and never returned to land. Since then, hippos can be seen on the land only at night, while they stay underwater all day long. A very long time ago, there was a hippopotamus named Istanim. He was one of the biggest animals on the land just next to the elephant and was thus considered the king. The hippo had seven fat wives and loved all of them very dearly. He often organized lavish feasts for his people. Though all the people of the area knew the hippo, none other than his seven wives knew his real name. One day, the hippo organised one of his regular feasts. Just when all the guests sat down for the lavish dinner, the hippo said,“Only those of you who know my name can enjoy the feast.” Everyone looked at each other’s face and no one knew the name of the hippo. So all of them had to go home leaving the delicious spread and the lovely wine. Just before they all left, the tortoise asked the hippo, what he would do if the tortoise managed to guess the hippo’s name at the next feast. The hippo replied,“If you can find out my name before the next feast, I would leave the land along with my seven wives and dwell in the water forever.” The tortoise was aware that every day the hippo and his seven wives went to the river to drink water and wash themselves. The hippo walked first with the seven wives following him. One such day, when the hippo along with his seven wives had gone for a bath in the nearby FOLKTALE The Hippopotamus and the Tortoise

  • 4. 3 Sam Visits the Green Lake Discover a New Place I'm at this amazing lake in Styria, Austria that needs one to dive underneath in order to get to the underwater park! The lake is totally dry for half of the year, during the winter months. But as the season changes, the temperatures begin to rise, causing the snow to melt and the melted snow from the Hochshwab Mountains starts flowing down the valley. The water fills up the Green Lake and during peak summer months the lake can have water as deep at 30 feet! So what is so bizarre about this lake? Here the lake is formed with an underwater park which is filled with roads, bridges, meadows and trails- all submerged beneath this beautiful lake! During the winter season the lake is almost not visible or has only 1-2 meter deep water. The Green Lake gets its name from its distinctive green color from the green grass and foliage beneath. The ice water is crystal clear, making the green foliage and the park visible from the surface of the lake. Even though the temperature of the lake remains 4 to 8 degree centigrade, it is very famous among divers who come especial- ly to dive and visit the underwater park. June is the best month when the alpine grass and flowers are in full bloom underwa- ter. There are also benches to sit and bridges to walk on under the water!

It started with “brevis” whichisLatinfor“short”andalsotherootof “brief”.Butthenhowdiditgettobecomeso long? “Ab” was added to “breviare” to make it“abbreviare”,averbmeaning“toshorten”. • 6. There are many organic natural remedies available to help soothe inflamed and itchy skin - Menthol : Menthol is an oil which produces a cooling effect when applied to the skin. It can be found in peppermint oil. However, it is important to remember to adequately dilute it. 2 to 3 drops of peppermint oil can be mixed into a carrier oil such as almond or coconut. The easiest way to apply the oil is to transfer it to a spray bottle and spray it on the itchy and affected area. Tea Tree Oil : Tree tea oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and works best when com- bined with a carrier oil. It is a fairly strong oil and it is recommended that it be washed off after leaving it on the skin for two hours. It works well when combined with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, castor oil or argan oil. Apple Cider Vinegar : Apple Cider Vinegar is well known when it comes to the effects it has on the human body.Try finding apple cider vinegar which comes with the 'mother'. This is nothing but apple cider vinegar which is unrefined and a little murky. It means that the vine- gar is unprocessed and is loaded with good bacteria. Combine the vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio. Apply this to an itchy scalp and allow it to dry. Then wash it off using lukewarm water. Natural remedies for Itchy Skin Healthy Me 5

  • 8. einstien iyengar Earthworms-A Farmer's Friend comic story 7 Martin heard his mother shriek. She was staring at over thirty earthworms crawling on the bathroom floor. “Quick Martin! Bring some salt. I will sprinkle it on the earthworm and they will die,” she screamed. Martin said, “No mother, don’t kill them please! They are harmless. I promise I will get rid of them!”
  • 9. 8 Martin carefully picked the earthworms up and placed them in a box. He took them to a patch of land in the garden that his father didn’t use and released them in the ground. In the evening, Martin went to Eeshan’s place to study. He told Eeshan that his father was going to take part in a gardening contest. Eeshan said, “My father has a book on gardening. Let’s go and check it out.”
  • 10. 9 As Eeshan was flipping through the pages of the book his eyes fell on a chapter title, “Earthworm, a Farmer’s Friend.” He said, “Martin! Here it says that an earthworm is a farmer’s friend because they turn the soil and large pieces of organic matter and make the soil fertile. This helps in making the plants grow naturally and well.” Martin took the earthworms out of the patch in his home carefully, and placed them inside the pot of the tomato plant. Over a week the tomatoes had grown into plump and healthy fruits and were ready for the contest. On the day of the contest, Martin, Eeshan and Martin’s mother saw Martin’s father return with the trophy. He thanked Eeshan and Martin for making this possible.
  • 11. Can We Measure Beauty? To understand if beauty is measurable, let us first understand the terms,‘measure’and‘beauty’. Measure- mentmeans,todefinesomethinginaclearandprecisewayandbeautyreferstothequalityofbeingpleas- ing, especially to look at. Thedebateon‘Whatmakessomethingorsomeonebeautiful?’hasbeengoingonforcenturies.Theearliest Western theory of beauty can be found in the works of Greek philosopher Pythagoras who saw a strong connection between mathematics and beauty. This was the time when It was believed that proportionate and symmetrical objects were more attractive. This definition is still held as relevant by many, so in that manner we can say that beauty can be measured. The question then arises of whether beauty is universal. The painting of Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci is considered beautiful and so is Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. What do they have in common? What makes them both beautiful despite the lack of symmetry? A combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, arrangement that pleases the senses, be it sight or sound makes something beautiful. It is also found that people around the world find different music, visual art, performance, and physical attributes to be beautiful. It’s on the basis of those considerations that many believe that beauty is a label we attach to different sorts of experiences based on a combination of cultural and personal preferences. So the saying,‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’used to express the fact that not all people have the same opinions about what is attractive and pleasing, holds true. Pondering Corner Martin spoke, “Einstein Iyengar helps so many people in need, wouldn’t he help my father?” Everyone laughed and Martin’s father treated them at a restaurant.
