2. Eyes:
Bionic retinas made of silicon
microchips, which convert light
into electrical impulses, could
restore partial sight to some
blind patients. Researchers are
encouraged by early trail
results.

3. Brain::
Drugs in research would block plaque
build up between nerve cells. Scientists
think the plaque may cause Alzheimer’s.
in 5 to 7 yrs there could potentially be
new drugs that slow or reverse the
disease. “Brain pacemakers” implanted
in the chest, send electrical impulses
deep within the brain to reduce the
stiffness and shaking of Parkinson’s.

4. Mouth:
Scientists are experimenting with “tooth
farming”- growing of biological teeth in
petri dishes using adult dental stem cells.
In 7 to 10 yrs, they may begin replacing
today’s implants or dentures. Human trails
are underway for a vaccine, derived from
tobacco plants, to prevent tooth decay.
Also in development: “smart fillings” that
could contain decay fighting minerals.
These could hit the market in 2 years.

5. Lungs:
Genes cultivated in labs could
replace genetic material that is
damaged or missing in lung cancer
patients. Injected into the blood
stream, the “genes program” cells
with faulty DNA to self-destruct.
Human trails are planned with in a
year.

6. Pancreas:
A drug in human trails has
halted the course of Type-I
diabetes (the form that strikes
many children and young
adults) by enabling patients to
produce their own Insulin.

7. Spinal Cord:
A woman regained some sensation
and movement in her paralyzed
legs after doctors injected white
blood cells into her Spinal Cord.
These cells, normally scarce in the
central nervous system, help heal
wounds and preserve tissue.

8. Blood:
A trail drug blocks the impact of
Gene mutation responsible for
a common and lethal form of
Leukaemia. The drug has killed
leukaemia cells in animal and
in vitro studies. Human trails
are underway.

9. Bladder:
Botox injections, used to erase
facial wrinkles, also appears to
treat overactive bladders by
preventing muscles from
contracting. In a University study,
incontinence was reduced or
eliminated for about six months.

10. Heart :
•Artificial Hearts made of Titanium & Plastic
could soon be an alternative to donor Hearts.
While safety tests continue, eligible patients
must have more than 30 days to live.
•Injection of ‘growth factor’ genes into blood
vessels supplying the Hearts of patients with
Angina have boosted stamina-presumably by
creating new “bypass” vessels. Large scale
human trails are now underway.

11. Breast :
DNA chips-glass chips that glow
with DNA patterns when
exposed to blood or tissue
samples-may help identify
aggressive Breast Tumors.
Being tested on Cancer
patients over the next few yrs

12. Knee:
Doctors can now treat certain knee
injuries by shipping samples of a
patient’s healthy cartilage to Lab,
where the cells are multiplied.
Within weeks millions of new
healthy cells are implanted in the
knee to repair the damaged
cartilage.

13. Leg:
By applying proteins that
spur new cells growth,
researchers have speed up
the repair of broken bones
that don’t heal easily, such
as the Tibia.

14. Foot:
Bio-engineered human tissue can
cure chronic, nagging, weeping foot
ulcers, a common side effect of
Diabetes result in foot amputations.
Human skin cells are grown in the
lab, then frozen. Once thawed and
applied to the wound, the tissue
provides healing proteins.
