MARKS 60
Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that answers for 10 marks questions should be
approximately of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme.
1 List and explain the various phases of production planning and control.
Answer : The four stages or steps in production planning and control are:
1. Routing,
2. Scheduling,
3. Dispatching, and
4.
2 Explain the various types of layout
Answer : In manufacturing, facility layout consists of configuring the plant site with lines, buildings,
major facilities, work areas, aisles, and other pertinent features such as department boundaries.
While facility layout for services may be similar to that for manufacturing, it also may be somewhat
different—as is the case with offices, retailers, and warehouses. Because of its relative permanence,
facility layout probably is one of the most crucial elements affecting efficiency. An efficient layout
can reduce unnecessary material handling, help to keep costs low, and maintain product flow
through the facility.

5 Discuss the eight dimensions of quality.
Answer : The definition of quality is often a hotly debated topic. While it may seem intuitive, when
we get right down to it, “quality” is a difficult concept to define with any precision.
The most fundamental definition of a quality product is one that meets the expectations of the
customer. However, even this definition is too high level to be considered adequate.
In order to develop a more complete definition of quality, we must consider some of the key
dimensions of a quality product or service.
6 What are the steps involved in the purchasing cycle?
Answer : Occasionally people may buy on impulse. Often, however, they go through a recognizable
purchase cycle. "By targeting specific cycle stages, advertisers can increase relevancy by delivering
appropriate messages at the right time," says Page Zero Media's Mona Elesseily in an article at
Search Engine Land. Here are her definitions of the five stages of the "buy cycle," and her tips for
serving customers at each one:
Stage 1: Awareness. When someone is beginning to think about a need and to identify solutions, it's
essential for a marketer to "just show up. Not
