The document discusses surveys conducted with an audience to determine the most effective horror film posters and trailers. It was found that trailers that included shocks and a sense of realism, like Chucky and Scream 3, were most memorable. Respondents said they want trailers to include conventions like blood and jump scares while leaving some suspense and not revealing the whole plot. Most said they prefer red and blood color themes in posters over black and grey, and find posters most memorable when they include vivid images that instill fear like body parts in Saw posters. The majority also said they prefer simple poster layouts without catchphrases that don't reveal the full narrative.
2. We sent out a second survey to our audience
regarding our film poster and radio trailer to find
out which posters were most remembered and most
attractive to them and which radio trailers made
them want to watch a film the most.
3. In order to make our trailer as
memorable as possible we asked
our audience which film trailer
they remembered the most so
that we can find similar features
that will attract our audience to
our trailer. We found out that
film trailers such as, Chucky,
Scream 3 and The Mirror were
mentioned because they
instantly gave the audience a
shock and gave a sense of
realism to the real world.
4. From this question, we found out
what our audience want from a
horror film trailer. They mention
typical conventions related to
horror, such as, blood, jump
scares and climax. They also say
they want to see the date of
release, the theme of the film and
an idea about what the film will
be about. Therefore, we will
include these aspects in order to
grab our audience’s attention.
5. The majority of our audience said
they would not like to discover
the whole plot within the trailer
whilst only 3.5% agreed they
would. So, to leave our audience
in suspense we will not include
our whole story in our trailer
because this will give everything
away and so the audience would
see no point in watching the
actual film.
6. 38.10% of our audience said
they would prefer to see a
red and blood colour theme
because these colours are
most associated with horror
whilst only 33% said they
would like to see only black
and grey colours.
7. Most of our audience said they
remember the poster from Saw
because of the male character
used that had his head cut off in
a bucket. Most of the posters
from Saw use vivid images of
human body parts, such as,
fingers, legs and arms. These
types of images are usually
remembered by an audience
because they instill fear within
them. However, there are some
mentions of The Conjuring
because it portrays a hidden
message that the audience.
8. The most attractive layout
that appeals to our audience
is a simple layout because
this gives a balanced look to
the whole poster. Therefore
we will construct our poster
carefully in order to have a
simple but yet effective
poster.
9. Most of our audience said
they are not interested with a
catchphrase within our
poster so we will not include
this but we will include this
within our trailer so it stays
enclosed within the minds of
our audience.
10. The majority of our audience
(61.9%) said they prefer not
to discover the narrative
within the film poster so we
will not include a narrative
because it becomes tedious
and the audience will lose
their interest in the film if
they have nothing to look
forward to.
