Day One | Tuesday 12th February 2019 www.bordersec.com
LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Dear Participants;
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th Annual Border
Security Conference taking place on the 12th and 13th February 2019 in
Rome, Italy.
Ensuring security of National Borders is a key priority for all governments and
remains one of the most high-profile law enforcement issues of our time.
Conflict, poverty and political instability have created an unprecedented
number of refugees and economic migrants moving between countries,
placing tremendous pressure on the border security community. In addition,
the growth in air travel means that volumes of travellers are growing at an
exponential rate.
Border Security 2019 will bring together border Security expertise and good
practice focusing on the latest technology being used on the front line and
best practice from Law enforcement from across the globe.
Together with the ever-present threat of cross border terrorism, in particular
from returning foreign fighters, there is a need to share best practice and
to consider how these pressures can be combatted and managed using
innovative technological solutions.
Establishing the identity of people crossing borders is key and this year’s
conference will focus on the new technology being deployed across the
globe to ensure that border law enforcement agencies can differentiate
between travellers particularly using biometric technology, in order to focus
their resources on those that pose the greatest risk.
Join us at this well-established event for an information packed two days,
featuring the latest innovation in Border Security and an opportunity to
meet experts in their field from across the world.

BORDERXPRESS™, by Vancouver Airport Authority
(YVR), is the only automated border control
solution, designed specifically by an airport, for
airports. BORDERXPRESS™ reduces wait times
for every traveller - not just a select few. Our
solution accepts all passports, without any fees
or prior registration requirements, to expedite
processing and reduce border wait times by up
to 50 per cent. BORDERXPRESS™ automates the
administrative functions of border control with
two simple steps. First, travellers complete the
dataentry function themselves using an intuitive,
touch-screen kiosk. The kiosk and software
sends collected information and biometrics
via encrypted transfer to a border control
agency, which assesses the data and returns
a government response. Second, an officer
then verifies the documents for final admission.
This additional step provides governments with
an enhanced level of safety and security, as
compared to competing technologies, as a
border officer will always have the final approval
to allow a traveller into the country. Vancouver
Airport Authority launched BORDERXPRESS™ at
Vancouver International Airport in 2009 and soon
discovered that other airports and governments
might also want the ability to reduce wait
times and increase their international arrivals
traffic without having to add additional space
or staffing resources. YVR has now sold over
1,300 kiosks to 39 airport and seaports locations
worldwide – more than any other automated
passport control provider.
