The atmospheric pollution is very conspicuous. Among the 341 monitored cities, air quality of 66.7 ％ cities exceeds the second-grade national standard. Solid waste, municipal waste and "white pollution" are still serious. Less than 10% of the total municipal waste has been really innocuously processed; and the urban noise harass is still widespread. In 2001, the noise in 55.7% of the monitored cities was above the moderate noise pollution.
