This document describes the development of a zero turn vehicle that can rotate in place. It discusses conventional two-wheel steering systems and their limitations in taking tight turns. A zero turn vehicle is presented as an alternative that allows for very sharp turns by independently controlling the direction of each wheel. The proposed design uses pneumatic cylinders actuated by a directional control valve to steer the wheels, along with electric motors to power the wheels. This allows the vehicle to rotate about its center of gravity by turning the wheels in opposite directions. Diagrams depict the mechanical linkages and components involved. Testing showed the vehicle could perform a 360 degree turn and parallel park in a very small space using this zero turn mechanism.
