Mark Yu-Hsien Chao received his Master's degree in chemical engineering from National Taiwan University in 2011. He currently works as a process engineer at CTCI CORPORATION. He enjoys working in groups and is diligent, persistent, and enthusiastic about his goals. During his education, he applied engineering knowledge to practical projects and gained leadership experience through extracurricular activities. At his current job, he designs petroleum factories and worked on an international refinery project, improving his communication skills. His future goals include fully devoting himself to his work and continuing to learn new skills.

1. English Autobiography
Introduction:
My name is Yu-Hsien Chao, and my English name is Mark. I got my Master degree
for chemical engineering department in National Taiwan University in 2011. I
accomplished army service on September 2012. I serve in the CTCI CORPORATION
as process engineer now.
Personal Characteristics:
I can generally characterize myself willfully with the following: Firstly, I am an
easy-going and extroverted person, and I like to work in groups to finish tasks. I
always have an open mind to accept new ideas which can attribute to the experiences
that are in relation to the extracurricular activities that I enjoyed doing during my
spare time. Secondly, I am very diligent and persistent. For me, it is important to do
my best and work hard. Even though I may encounter so many frustrating moments,
the process will finally be very rewarding. Lastly, I look forward to the future, I
always feel energetic and enthusiastic on my goals with these faith.
Education and training:
I have taken an interest in science and math since I was a child; such interest later
drove me to study in the chemical engineering department at National Taiwan
University, where I often put knowledge into practical use. For example, in my fourth
year, I applied disciplines such as unit operation, thermodynamics, and physical
chemistry, to simulate a simplified methanol factory and calculate its productivity and
total annual cost.
Regarding my extracurricular activities in my college life, I joined the KKFriend
(Kind Kids Friends) club, which is dedicated to serving aboriginal children in remote
areas by holding recreational group activities. As an activities manager, I have to
consider children's interests and abilities in designing several activities for them to
learn and have fun at the same time.
Because I had some knowledge about distillation columns and wanted to recognize
computer simulation, I entered the PSE( Process System Engineering) lab. During the
first year, I finished taking all the required courses in the curriculum and began to do
research under the guidance of my professor. My thesis topic is ''Minimum Energy
Requirements for Muti-effect Distillation Arrangement''. During my research, I first

2. used matlab to do theoretical derivation and then compared the result with the
simulations by using Aspen Plus. Meanwhile, I enjoyed the sense of accomplishment
when I participated in Green Chemical Process Technology, a program offered by the
Ministry of Economic Affairs. I polished my presentation skills then by presenting my
research results in the conference with professors every two months.
Work experience:
I started my career as an engineer in process department in CTCI CORPORATION
after fulfilling my duties in the army. My job responsibilities are mainly about
designing petroleum factory which includes PID design, process simulation, hydraulic
calculation, equipment design and control logic analysis. I participated in LR2 which
is an international refinery plant construction project in Qatar. I was in charge of the
utility system of all plant in this project. To overcome the challenges in LR2, I need to
prepare myself well to adapt varieties of conditions. I improved my communication
skills especially in English when I converse with investors and owners from Qatar.
Aside from this, I also need to collaborate with people from different departments to
resolve problems in a timely manner.
Future goals:
Work is a process of self-fulfillment for me. I would fully devote myself to my job. I
have the passion for learning new things and eager to enhance the skills I mustered. I
am confident that I can adapt myself to the job quickly due to my background.
