Advertising has been around for over 100 years and has evolved significantly since the late 19th century. In the early days, advertising focused on direct, factual messages to consumers but shifted to more emotional "reason why" appeals over time. The advertising industry truly flourished in the 1950s as the concept of unique selling propositions emerged and theories like Maslow's hierarchy of needs influenced the field. By the 1960s and 1970s, advertising became more prevalent across various media and started grappling with ethical issues of truth and deception. New technologies like color television in the 1970s and the internet in the 2000s revolutionized the industry by facilitating moving images and digital/social media advertising.
