Part 1: Topic and Research Question (due at the end of Module 7) The focus of your final project is as follows: Here is the challenging broad topic you will explore: “Globalization: Our Ever- Shrinking World” Narrow and refine this topic into a research question. Here, you need to focus on particular areas of the world or aspects such as the impact of technology on communications, cultural erosion, multiculturalism and diversity pressures, refugees, global industries/markets, loss of biodiversity, food instability, overpopulation, or migrant workers. Global means more than just the U.S. Please come up with your own ideas here! Now, within this area, you need to focus on something more specific: social media, indigenous peoples, legal vs. illegal migration, permanent refugees in the Middle East, etc. Remember, it has to be GLOBAL IN PERSPECTIVE! i. Summarize what you learned from your research (we will do some of this during class time) about the
problem or region your group chooses and then your particular focus, taking into account the following: To
what degree has globalization caused or contributed to the problem? What are the various challenges that
exist with regard to solving this particular problem? To what extent is culture contributing and/or alleviating
the problem? Finally, whom does your research lead you to empathize with and why?
ii. Describe the innovative/creative/entrepreneurial solution that you intend to develop and how and
why it will contribute in some way to solving the problem/situation. What does the finished product look like
in your imagination? Here are some possible types of projects you might decide on: a product to sell or
donate, a blog or webpage, an architectural plan (unique to this project), a poem, editorial, memoir or
creative nonfiction piece, a film, video or podcast; a painting, sculpture, photograph or mural; a work of
music, choreography, play, performance art, event; etc.
iii. Describe your project and how it will address the cultural challenges and complexities you learned

Scenario:

This could have been the Young Democrats or the Young Republicans or any college group that supported the political party of your choice. While you continued to remain politically active, you have become more and more disillusioned with the current major and third parties and movements on the political scene, having studied all thoroughly. You have come to be completely discouraged by the state of the political process as it pertains to political parties. In your opinion, none of the major or third parties truly represents the best interests of the citizens, and you have decided to create your own political party.
Directions. In a 4-5 page Microsoft Word document, include the following:
Name your political party and evaluate why you have chosen that name.
Create a symbol for your political party and explain why you have chosen that symbol.
Create a slogan for your political party and justify why you have chosen that slogan.
Develop a platform for your political party. A platform is a written outline and explanation of what your party believes in and why. Your party can be a single-issue party, an ideological party, a splinter party, or a regular broad based political party. Your platform must have at least four positions under the following topics. Behavioral Disorder—Female Vignette
Maria is an eight-year-old daughter of Mexican-American parents who recently immigrated to the United States. They speak some English, and Maria is fluent in both English and Spanish. She is enrolled in third grade at the local public elementary school. Since second grade, her parents have reported concerns about her difficulty in paying attention or maintaining her concentration. They indicate that she has significant difficulty in completing her homework because she daydreams and is easily distracted by sounds and activities in the home. Maria has the same problem in the classroom, so she often has to bring unfinished classroom work home to complete. Maria gets frustrated at school and during homework time, often stating that she “can’t do” the work and referring to herself as “dumb” or “not smart enough.”

The system of federalism was instituted with the writing and authorization of the Constitution in 1787. In dividing power between states and the national government, federalism has undergone challenges to the placement of power. Should power reside primarily in national or in state government? The Civil War was the most dramatic challenge to the placement of power. Southern states argued, under the leadership of John C. Calhoun, that states’ power superseded national power, while northern states, under the leadership of President Abraham Lincoln, stressed the need for union under the leadership and direction of the national government.
In the more than two hundred years since the Constitution’s adoption, there have been many changes to the meaning of federalism, with power shifting between state and national governments. In the twentieth century, the shifts of power became largely associated with the national government’s ability to provide increased funding sources. With more funding available, the national government has expanded its impact on all areas of state governments. This increased power has had many advocates and many detractors, each with strong justifications.

- 1. Your Final Project will unfold in two parts. In the first part, you will submit your topic and research question. This is due at the end of Module 7 . The second part of the project is the creation of PowerPoint slides with Notes, to make your presentation a complete package. The PowerPoint is due at the end of Module 8 . Part 1: Topic and Research Question (due at the end of Module 7) The focus of your final project is as follows: Here is the challenging broad topic you will explore: “Globalization: Our Ever- Shrinking World” Narrow and refine this topic into a research question. Here, you need to focus on particular areas of the world or aspects such as the impact of technology on communications, cultural erosion, multiculturalism and diversity pressures, refugees, global industries/markets, loss of biodiversity, food instability, overpopulation, or migrant workers. Global means more than just the U.S. Please come up with your own ideas here! Now, within this area, you need to focus on something more specific: social media, indigenous peoples, legal vs. illegal migration, permanent refugees in the Middle East, etc. Remember, it has to be GLOBAL IN PERSPECTIVE! Again, come up with your own particular focus!

The final product you submit will present your findings about the topic both visually (through carefully designed slides) and verbally (through the words you would say if you were giving a speech). Your submission should include each item listed here: A research question around the topic described above A 250+ word description of the issue that your research question will address and why it is a major concern for the people of the world At least 3 references in APA style
