Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born in 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. He studied aerospace engineering and joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist after graduating. He worked on key projects including the SLV-III satellite launch vehicle and helped develop ballistic missiles under India's missile program. Kalam later served as Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of Defense Research and Development Organization. He was elected President of India in 2002 and served one term until 2007. Kalam continued advocating for scientific development in India until his sudden death in 2015 during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong.
