This document provides instructions for completing basic graphical drawings. It outlines 5 tasks to practice different drawing techniques:
1. Drawing straight lines, lines at 45 degrees and 90 degrees.
2. Constructing a square shape using horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.
3. Drawing a shape made of intersecting squares using horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines.
4. Recreating the British Paints logo using different sized concentric circles connected by straight lines.
5. Drawing a toy cannon using circles, horizontal, vertical and 45 degree lines by first laying out the frame and wheels and then adding the barrel and other details.
21. Circles
• Centre line
• Is a real or imaginary line through the
centre of the circle
• Is the starting point for your compass
22. Circles
• Diameter ø
• Is the distance from one side to
another through the centre
• When drawing a circle with a compass
you must set your compass to half the
distance
23. Circle
• Radius R
• Is the distance from the centre to the
circumference
• Your compass must always be set to
the radius
24. Circles
• Draw 20 circles of different sizes
on an A4 piece of paper
30. British Paints
• Draw the top of the B straight up
90mm from the tangent of the last
circle
• Horizontally 22mm to the right
• Straight down to meet the
circumference of the last circle
31. British Paints
• Tangent line straight down on the
left of the first circle
• Tangent line straight down on the
left of the second circle
33. Task 5
• Recreate this toy cannon on
drawing sheet 5 using circles,
horizontal lines, vertical lines and
45 degree lines
• Remembering all we have learnt
from the previous 4 tasks
34. Toy Cannon
• Page layout
• From the bottom right corner come
up 135mm and across 100mm this
will be your starting point for task 5
35. Toy Cannon
• Step 1 – draw a horizontal line
105mm long from your starting
point
36. Toy Cannon
• Step 2 – 20mm in from each end
put a centre line for the wheels
• Inner radius is 5mm
• Outer radius is 15mm
37. Toy Cannon
• Step 3 – draw a 90° line 10mm long
at each end on the line
• Draw a 45° line 40mm
• Draw a horizontal line to connect
them
38. Toy Cannon
• Step 4 – centre of the top line draw
a circle with a radius of 6mm
• From that centre of that circle
draw a 50mm line horizontally to
the left
• from the end of the line draw a
vertical line 20mm up and 20mm
down
39. Toy Cannon
• Step 5 – draw a circle at each end
with a radius of 5mm
• Draw vertical lines and connect the
outer tangent of both circles
41. Toy Cannon
• Step 7 – where that lines crosses
the left hand vertical line draw a
semi circle with a radius of 18mm
• At the end of that line draw a circle
with the radius of 7mm
43. Toy Cannon
• Step 8 – from the centre circle draw a horizontal line 120mm to the right
• At the end of that line draw vertical line 12.5mm each way
44. Toy Cannon
• Step 9 - continue the horizontal line 3mm and draw a vertical line 15mm up
and down
45. Toy Cannon
• Step 10 – continue the horizontal line 5mm and draw a vertical line 15mm up
and down
46. Toy Cannon
• Step 11-connect the lines to make
up the end of the barrel
47. Toy Cannon
• Step 12 - from the centre line of the semi circle at the top left of the page draw a
line to connect the end of the barrel
48. Toy Cannon
• Step 13 – from the centre line of the semi circle at the bottom left of the page draw a
line to connect the end of the barrel do not draw through the frame of the cannon
