Xclone is a tool for fast VM provisioning that can deploy 100 VMs across 6 physical hosts in under 30 minutes. It uses a combination of full cloning for VMs on the same host and linked cloning for VMs on different hosts to minimize disk I/O bottlenecks. Testing showed the naive approach would take over an hour while Xclone deployed the VMs in under 30 minutes by leveraging different cloning techniques and parallelizing the workload across multiple hosts and disks. Future work may include using RAM disks, aware deployment based on infrastructure resources, and optimizing full cloning.

Server Virtualization and Cloud Computing: Four Hidden Impacts on ...webhostingguy
Virtualization and cloud computing introduce new risks to uptime and availability due to single points of failure, I/O and scalability limitations, and challenges with failover and fault isolation. Using fault-tolerant server hardware can help address these issues by eliminating single points of failure, improving I/O performance, and simplifying deployment. Fault-tolerant servers are well-suited for high-performance, high-density, or mission-critical environments that require five-nines uptime.
System Center 2012 allows organizations to manage their private and public cloud resources from a single interface by integrating existing IT assets into a private cloud and complementing it with public cloud services. It enables businesses to deliver flexible infrastructure using their existing resources, gain insights into application performance to address issues proactively, and provide self-service access to infrastructure and applications across hybrid clouds.
Business implementation of Cloud ComputingQuaid Sodawala
This document discusses business implementation and security concerns regarding cloud computing. It provides an introduction to cloud computing, explaining that it allows users to access applications from anywhere through connected devices. The key benefits of cloud computing are discussed as scalability, cost savings, instant access, and mobility. The document also outlines the evolution of cloud computing from earlier concepts like grid computing and utility computing. It describes the different cloud computing models of public, private, and hybrid clouds and how they each have different security risk levels. Finally, it mentions there are also different cloud service models beyond the infrastructure models.
Cloud computing is a flexible, cost-effective and proven delivery platform for providing business or
consumer IT services over the Internet. Cloud resources can be rapidly deployed and easily scaled, with all
processes, applications and services provisioned “on demand,” regardless of user location or device.
Cloud computing offers flexibility and cost savings but presents new security challenges. Key issues include lack of visibility and control over outsourced data and operations, infrastructure sharing increasing attack surfaces, and difficulty ensuring compliance when processes are hidden in cloud layers of abstraction. A high degree of standardization and automation is needed alongside a strong emphasis on isolation, identity, and compliance to properly secure cloud implementations.

A private cloud provides cloud computing benefits like scalability and elasticity using dedicated resources controlled by the organization. It can deliver infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) models. Microsoft offers private cloud solutions using Windows Server, Hyper-V, and System Center to build a flexible private cloud with self-service provisioning and integrated management.
1. The document discusses cloud computing and compares it to grid computing. Cloud computing delivers computing as a service using virtualized hardware and software platforms.
2. Cloud computing provides massive scalability, fault tolerance, and reliable service quality through virtualization and load balancing across infrastructure.
3. Users can access cloud applications and services from any internet-connected device without installing or managing software/hardware themselves.
Cloud computing allows organizations to access computing resources on an elastic, pay-per-use basis rather than investing in their own IT infrastructure. Adopting cloud computing can improve efficiency by providing the exact capacity needed, reducing unused capacity from 85% to as low as 15%, and lowering costs such as support costs by 60% and IT labor costs by 50%. IBM can help organizations implement private or community clouds to realize these benefits through optimized infrastructure and pay-for-use pricing models.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
