Essay On Batman A Vigilante
Vigilante with a Large Wallet In the world of superheroes, there are numerous that believe they are
heroes, while in actuality, they are merely vigilantes. This is demonstrated throughout the world of
superheroes, but it is not as prominently demonstrated as in Batman. Batman presents himself as a
hero, while he is only an over imaginative vigilante. He is more a vigilante than a hero since he has
the ability to stop crime, but doesn t, he only does deeds for his own benefit, and he helps the law but
isn t part of it. These are only a few ways Batman is a vigilante, rather than a hero. These are mainly
based upon the idea of him trying to right his own past. Batman is more of a vigilante than a hero
since he has the ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heroes have the tendency to fight crime or serve the public without having to have a personal reason,
this is not the case for Batman. Batman regularly, if not constantly, fights crime for his own benefit.
While Batman was still Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a soon to be supervillain, this caused
him to have an alternative motive to become a hero. Even if he does not directly advance on his parent
s murder, he still attacks ever villain that he thinks did him an injustice. He smashes any and
everything in his way while pursuing his ends, (Wilson). While Batman smashes through his own
intentions, Captain America fights crimes/serves the city for the people not for his own benefit.
Batman might seem to be doing what a hero is supposed to do, but he is merely trying to avenge his
parents death. Police are perplexed, worried the group will turn into vigilantes and doubt that the
superhero policy is ever stopped any crime, (source A). This is the same with Batman; the police do
not know what to fashion of him, but are worried that he will insert himself in trouble. Batman might
seem to be doing activities for others, still he does them for himself. Though Batman tries to be
portrayed as a hero, he is only a vigilante since he helps the law, but is not a part of it. This means that
he fights crime, but is not a member of the police force or other civil duties that

Non Traditional Gender Roles And Identity Essay
Discuss the issues associated with non traditional gender roles and identity. Many professions are
traditionally occupied by one gender over the other, identified as occupational segregation (Hoffnung
et al., 2013). Furthermore, Hoffnung and colleagues (2013), state that females are often perceived as
carrying the burden of parenthood and general domestic chores, often in positions such as domestic
labour. Whereas males are traditionally employed in positions with lower social demands, in more
quantitatively and physically demanding positions. During the last thirty years there has been a
notable increase of females into traditionally male roles, however this has not been the case for males
entering female dominated roles (Hoffnung et al., 2013). Although there are growing numbers of men
entering nursing, they still account for a small minority of the workforce, unrepresentative of society
(Weaver, Ferguson, Wilbourn Salamonson, 2013). There are many issues surrounding non traditional
career choices, such as men in nursing. Gender role attitudes, interactions within ... Show more

Furthermore, they must perform stereotypically female tasks and portray feminine characteristics, in
juxtapose to traditional masculine ideology. It is therefore extremely difficult for male nurses to
establish their identity. Sobiraj and colleagues (2011), found that the conflicting expectations, not
being feminine vs. feminine work role requirements (p. 806), can have a negative effect on their
psychological health. They are therefore constantly trying to establish their masculinity, having to
prove their heterosexuality. This type of stereotypical discrimination can lead to higher stress levels,
reduced mental and physical health, and poor job satisfaction (Hoffnung et al.,

The Church Of The Brethren
Church of the Brethren does not accept abortion. Participating in abortion is not support their beliefs.
Church of the Brethren is a denomination that was formed to continue their practices their own way.
They started as a small group and to this day still recruit new members. They solely use the New
Testament as their source of guidance for the practice they preach. Rational Choice theory explains
Church of the Brethren s position in opposing abortion.
The Church of the Brethren opposes abortion because the rejection of unborn children violates the
love by which God creates and nurtures human life (1984). This is the Church of Brethren s official
position concerning abortion. They feel they are responsible for the children who are unwanted. They
believe in various alternatives to abortion for the people in their community. They still will love and
support those who believe that eliminating a child from their womb is the correct thing. Opposing
abortion falls in favor with the majority of the Church of the Brethren. However, meetings are held
with the Standing Committee to discuss controversial topics, such as abortion. The Church of the
Brethren suggests that human life existed way before conception in Psalm 51:5. Also in Jeremiah 1:5,
which states that he, was acknowledged before conception. The life of the fetus and of the mother are
described as valuable in Exodus 21:22 25 (1972). According to these scriptures, the life of a fetus is
important before even existing.

Factory Farm Vs Co-Op Farm
In the middle of the night a farmer is standing in his barn, going up to and petting each animal he
passes. A single tear rolling down his face, as he can no longer afford to care for his animals. Knowing
that they will all be gone soon due to the sale in the morning, that will not even get him the value that
his farm is worthed. This is happening to many farmers now a days. They are not making the income
to feed their livestock or tend to their crops, leading to the only option to sell their farms. Many people
do not know what it takes to be the american farmer. Waking up in the middle of the night to help birth

money they deserve, meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As well as the experience the farmer has whether they have a high school diploma, or a four year
college degree with experience working on a farm. The main point is the fact when they sell their
produce to companies and they get only pennies to the dollar. In the article Milk pricing imbalance
causing many local dairy farmers to sell off herds by James Haggerty from the Times Tribute says A
gallon of whole milk sold regionally for $3.60 in September 2008, when dairy farmers averaged
$20.50 payments per 100 pounds, state Milk Marketing Board data show. In February, a gallon of milk
sold for $3.27 regionally, but the average 100 pound payment to farmers was $18.10. (20). Within ten
years, the price of milk went down 33 cents, then leaving the farmer that sold the milk with a $2.40
decrees from what they were making. The U.S. Department of Agriculture s Economic Research
Service (USDA/ERS) asserted that the price of a dozen farm eggs rose from the 2011 rate (79.7 cents)
to an estimated 86.4 cents in 2012 and to a 93.6 cents in 2013. This was stated in the article called Egg

5 Finger Retells
To support each focus student to understand and use this feedback to further their learning related to
retelling a story by including the key details and sequencing the events, I held conferences with small
groups that were created based off common errors of one of the focus students. Student 1, Student 3,
and a large amount of other students from the class struggled with including all of the characters when
retelling, most of the students only mentioned the three billy goats. The students in the class that had
this common error were grouped together in two different groups for smaller sizes, to go over the
responses of the majority of the class. The students were given a new 5 Finger Retell story to make the
revisions discussed on. To help students understand feedback, we will also ... Show more content on

Kindergartners are such visual learners that this picture walk supported them when they revised their
settings mentioned on their new 5 Finger Retell story map. Student s with EIP s including Student 3,

use the feedback that has been given during the one on one conference to revise their retelling by
small group support and time to revise errors made on their new 5 Finger Retell story map. A small
group of students with similar errors and strengths was also created to work on the amount of details a
reader provides when retelling a story. Many students were very brief and broad in their writing and
illustrations when retelling the events of the story of what happened in the beginning, middle, and end.
Student 2 and 3 were apart of this group to enhance their retelling ability. This group of students was
successful in sequencing the events, which is the related skill of retelling, however did not provide
enough details when retelling the story to provide enough evidence on if they could recall more than

Teens And Hispanic Teenage Pregnancy
There are many factors when it comes to which teenagers are most likely to get pregnant. These
factors consist of race, the country they live in, and economic status. Starting with race, whites have a
significantly lower rate of teenage pregnancy than those who are Hispanic or African American. White
and African American teenage pregnancies have both gone down while Hispanic teenage pregnancy
has gone up in the last 15 years (Coley Chase Lansdale, 1998). Even though Hispanic teenagers tend
to be sexually active later in their adolescence, studies have proven that they are less likely to use birth
control; increasing the likelihood of becoming pregnant. Once pregnant they are less likely to abort
than Whites or African Americans leading to a higher rate of Hispanic teenage pregnancies (Coley
Chase Lansdale, 1998). While race plays a big role, what country you live in also contributes to your
chances of being pregnant as a teenager. In fact, at the beginning of this decade, the rate of teenage
births was almost twice as high in the United States as in the country with the next highest rate, Great
Britain; more than 4 times greater than those of Sweden and Spain; 7 times greater than those of
Denmark and the Netherlands; and 15 times greater than that of Japan (Coley Chase Lansdale, 1998,
p. 152). Some researchers argue that because the United States is so diverse the teenage pregnancy
rate is much higher but White teenagers in the U.S. still have higher pregnancy

Platonic Love In Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium attempts to define the eclectic theory of love, a theory that is often believed to be
the universal principle that guides mankind s actions. Plato introduces several narratives in the form of
a dialogue that seek to characterize this multifaceted theory of Eros. The meaning of love naturally
varies in each narrative. Yet, in this dialogue of love, Plato presents a metaphysical approach to
understanding the ambiguous meaning of love. Ultimately, Plato values the perennial quest for
knowledge above all else. In Symposium, Platonic love is exhibited in the relationship between virtue
and desire, as expressed in Diotima s ladder. Desire is the vehicle, or the means to an end. The six
Athenians ultimately present different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The older man will exchange his knowledge and virtue to the younger man for the fulfillment of the
older man s sexual desires. Like Plato, Pausanias believes that the highest maxim in the world to strive
for is virtue: For he too has demonstrated something about himself: that he is the sort of person who
will do anything for the sake of virtue and what could be more honorable that that? It follows,
therefore, that giving in to your lover for virtue s sake is honorable, what ever the outcome. (185B)
Yet, Plato, through Socrates and Diotima, differs from Pausanias in the way in which virtue is
obtained. For Pausanias, the relationship between desire and virtue requires favors to be exchanged for
both bodily and mindful stimulation. Since virtue is the desired outcome for the young man, he must
submit to the authority of the older man by basically any means necessary, namely through sexual
favors. Homosexuality appears to be a common beginning for the quest of virtue and philosophy, but
by what means necessary to obtain these ends? Plato presents Pausanias s theory to be only partially
correct, as he ultimately extols a love that requires no sexual love. In Pausanias s theory of love,
sexual love is necessary to fulfill the both needs. Plato s ideal form of love is fully expressed in the
concept of Diotima s ladder.
Platonic love only partially identifies with Pausanias s theory. Pausanias s speech and the speeches of

Brief History Of Time By Stephen Hawking
For the second semester book report I chose to read A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking.
Before I started reading I knew what I signed up for. A lot of math, science and complicated stuff that
sometimes makes my head hurt. Nonetheless A Brief History of Time is about the history of science,
history of how the universe began and how the journey of finding the theory for everything has been
going. He talks about some of the theories that may help with finding the theory like the black hole
theory, general relativity, quantum mechanics, imaginary time, string theory and many more. He also
mentions the belief that people have that god created the universe, that God created everything.
The book starts with Stephen Hawking talking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Greek astronomer named Ptolemy agreed with Aristotle theory and made a model that provided a
decent accurate system for predicting the places where heavenly bodies in the sky were located. His
model was accepted and adopted generally. But then a simpler model made by a Polish priest,
Nicholas Copernicus was suggested. His idea was that the sun was still at the center and that the earth
and the planets moved in circular orbits around the sun. Two astronomers took this idea seriously
Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei and they started publicly supporting the Copernican theory. The
death of the Aristotelian/Ptolemaic theory came in 1609 when Galileo started to look at the sky with a
telescope. When he looked at Jupiter he saw that it was by a lot of small satellites or moon that orbited
around it. Johannes then changed Copernicus s theory a bit by suggesting that the planets move in
ellipses instead of circles. An explanation came when Isaac Newton published his Philosophiae
Naturalis Principia mathematica in 1687. In it he provided a theory of how bodies move in space and
time. He also made the complicated mathematics needed to analyze those motions. Then questions
were raised like whether the universe had a beginning in time and whether it is limited in space.
Edwin Hubble in 1929 made an observation that the galaxies are moving rapidly away from us like the
universe is expanding. Then he thought that the universe was really close

Describe A Memorable Moment In The Play
Describe a compelling or memorable moment in the play and evaluate what made it so
compelling/memorable. Consider script, performance, and spectacle factors in your discussion. [5
significant sentences minimum] One memorable moment in the play was when Clairee yelled in
outrage and her voice sort of cracked. It made the whole audience burst into laughter and it was my
favorite part of the play. I remember the look on each of the faces of the characters. Everyone was so
connected and serious, but at the drop of the hat (or shall I say the line) all of the women had
delightful smiles on their faces and their heads were tilted back from laughing. Clairee s body was
uptight and straight as a board and she stomped her foot as she said the line. After, she still was stick
straight but laughing like the rest of them.
Which actor was compelling to you? And what was the name of the character the actor played? The
actress was most compelling to me was Madeline Ritter, and she portrayed the character, Shelby.
Describe 2 moments in the play (one from Act 1 and one from Act 2 or from earlier and later in the
play, if there was no intermission) where the actor s portrayal seemed compelling. Be sure to include
what the actor did especially how the actor used his/her face, voice and body to bring the character to
life in these moments. [5 significant sentences minimum] The first compelling moment was from Act
1. This is where Shelby tells her mom that she is pregnant. The

The Slaughter of Horses
Slaughtering horses for human consumption in the United States started in the early 1970 s.
Americans do not eat horsemeat; we consider horses to be favored animals, just like dogs and cats.
The idea of eating a horse, a cat, or a dog just goes against our very culture. It was foreign interests
that brought the horse slaughter industry to the United States and built equine slaughterhouses here.
By the 1990 s, there were at least sixteen equine slaughterhouses operating all across the United
States. At that time, most Americans did not even realize that such an industry even existed in their
country. Over the years, the industry grew larger and people began to use slaughter as an opportune
way to get rid of their undesired horses. Rather than take responsibility for their horses by either
taking the time to place them in a horse sanctuary or by paying a licensed veterinarian put them down
humanely, owners would ship them to a slaughter house and get paid for doing so. In today s United
States there is a debate ensuing on whether to lift the ban on equine slaughter which was enacted in
2007. There are practical as well as commercial arguments that can be made in favor of horse
slaughter, and there are ethical and environmental reasons to oppose it. In this paper I plan on
addressing both sides of the debate as well as explaining each sides main points. In 2007, the last
United States plant capable of equine slaughter was closed due to a district court ruling making it

Eugenics And Its Impact On Society
Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating poverty, crime, and
social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are closely interdependent. Changes within
society cause a need for modifications within the school system. Similarly, alterations within the
school system impact society. Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in
drastic educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school reform to
the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is the study of the
agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations
either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school
systems; American s often want to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an
insidious effect on the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were passed down in
families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided
to sterilize many families who may carry these traits. They argued, America must be kept American
(Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept provided the guiding ideology behind

Economics Is The Fundamental Force
No matter who you are, economics is integral to everything you do. The decisions one makes as a
consumer, employee, and voter impact his or her life in multiple aspects, often in ways that are not
obvious. The allocation of resources by companies, the government, and other people can alter your
economic opportunities greatly, and thus it is essential to understand how the choices that not only
you, but everyone and everything else makes, will alter your future. Doing so can can greatly enhance
your economic opportunities, while not being aware, and making poor economic decisions, can
greatly diminish your future economic well being. Every choice you make involves economic decision

In turn, this will increase the demand for goods needed to make more cars, such as rubber and metal.
In addition, even more workers are hired to make cars (at least for a time), thus creating even more
jobs. In this way, your and everyone else s decision to consume cars has stimulated a portion of the
economy. Perhaps this stimulation results in an opportunity for you to gain a better job, thus gaining
you a higher wage, and raising your standard of living. This is entirely hypothetical, yet plausible,
scenario of how your contribution to the economy as a consumer could enhance your economic
opportunities. Your decision as a consumer can do more than stimulate the growth of a business; it can
contribute to the decline of one as well. For example, perhaps you decide that you no longer wish to
eat meat, and decide to go vegetarian. This may seem like a relatively personal, and inconsequential
decision, yet it is actually very influential. If a large number of people decided to become vegetarian,
the meat industry would take a direct hit: obviously, there would be less meat demanded, and profits
would decrease. Furthermore, as less people demanded meat, the price would go down, as less people
purchased meat and it became harder to sell. Another effect this newfound vegetarianism would have
is due to cross price elasticity of meat and vegetables. As the demand of meats goes down, the price of
vegetables and grains would likely go up, as more are demanded.

Target Market And Retail Policies Of Completely Different...
Before I start to talk about target market and retail policies of completely different fashion retailers,
I would like you to answer these following questions:
1. How old are you?
2. What part of the country are you from?
3. What is your monthly income, and your monthly outgoings?
4. What jobs do you parents hold?
5. What type of school did you go to?
6. How often do you buy a new outfit?
7. How much do you spend on new clothes?
8. Would you say ethical and environmental concerns are a priority to you?
These constitute only a very few of the questions that marketing executives are trying to discern about
you, in order to create the type of fashion retail brand that gets you hot under the collar and itching to
go shopping. Of course, you instinctively know that fashion retailers like Primark and Gucci are a
world apart (not counting the ironic title of Primani that has now been applied to our most ubiquitous
of high street retailers...). But do you know precisely who these companies are targeting in an attempt
to increase footfall through their doors? Are YOU a marketing goldmine for fashion retailers?
Perhaps your answer to that last question is of course I am! More people means more money, right?
Not always. You might be surprised to find that many companies simply don t want you. Take Gucci
for example. Very early on in the game, Gucci decided that more people didn t mean more money and

There are 3 types of sounds used in The Godfather; dialogue, sound effects and music. You can
correlate the dialogue, or what is said throughout the film, to how you would imagine an American
Italian mobster talking, even today. Detailed sound is also very prominent, one scene where sound
used ambiguity to increase the connection between the film and viewer was during that of Sonny
Corleone s death. In the beginning of that scene it focuses on the traffic noise and the ball game
playing in the background. You are startled by the ringing of the toll booth as the gate comes down
and then hearing his change hit the tollbooth floor. When all seems normal there is a hail of gunfire
from every side and you can specifically hear his screams, glass shattering and him falling to the
ground. They are very intricate sounds you would not normally hear over a hail of gunfire from
dozens of tommy guns. Music is used to help the audience relate to the mafia family. From the subtle
background music that plays at the beginning to the theme music played while Michael was in Sicily.
With the music and gunfire being very prominent in the film it definitely allows the audience to

Marketing Plan For West Coast Transit
When conducting a marketing plan that will create a solution for West Coast Transit it is important to
create a highly motivated and dynamic team of employees to come together to accomplish a task
swiftly and flawlessly with short notice. The current situation is for the team of selected individuals to
create a plan of action to help boost revenue through the release of the new Bowing 747 and the
existing West Coast Transit company mission which is to stay customer focused and provide an
opportunity for companies to fly their employees at an affordable rate as well as accommodate whole
families to travel affordably. I have selected a group to work together on a West Coast Transit project
that I believe will be in the best interest for the teams and company. While everyone who works with
us today has their own profound talents and characteristics, I have selected a group of six which I
believe bring the most to the table in a situation like this because the selected group is willing to put
more work in for the good of the organization and will do more than is required. My first choice
would be Natalie. Natalie is positive and ambitious and can function well in a group atmosphere,
Natalie is motivated by challenges and enjoys competitive opportunities where her skills and talents
can take center stage. She is great for smoothing over tense situations. She is a real negotiator and is
comfortable in any kind of speaking situation which in this stressed circumstance is required.

tactic for some free White House lawn care, it s pretty clear the press loved Frank s story. At a press

The Issue Of The Green Movement
This has to be one of the most important issues of the current times because life as we know it will
never be the same if something isn t done. The problem is that we as humans are naturally selfish, so
we think that we aren t the problem. But the truth is we are, mostly to due with our greediness. We
over consume as a whole, we waste too much, we feel entitled and better than others, the list goes on
and on. The fact of the matter is that there is no need for us to be all of this. We should feel content
with what we are given and be sure that all are given the same. The green movement, isn t just a social
issue, it is a moral issue. One that we all need to partake in. This is relevant because the research
shows how much we have altered with our planet and it s not good (Enzler). The data includes things
like the shrinking of the polar caps, the rising of the sea levels, the dramatic warming of the Earth s
temperature, the increase of carbon in the atmosphere etc.. As journalist for the Washington Post
Chelsea Harvey explains, The most alarming statistic has to be the rising of the sea levels which are
expected to rise to 0.6 meters globally by the year 2100 (1). Harvey is saying how a rise this severe
could be catastrophic for all countries. A rise in sea levels this high will lead to major flooding in
coastal areas and cause massive water damage to cities. Coastal cities are some of the largest

Danielle Van Dam Case
The crime scene is actually in two places because it starts at the resident of the Van Dam s which is
where the initial crime occurred in the room of Danielle van Dam. From this point officer s should be
able to gather some evidence of the type of crime that happened and start to collect all of the apparent
evidence. To see if anything was left behind to see if a comparison can be made as to who have all

Danielle. The second crime scene in question is the home of the Van Dam s neighbor David
Westerfield because it was discovered that he was the main suspect of the kidnapping of Danielle van
Dam. There was some of Danielle s DNA at the home of Mr. Westerfield in which it was stated that
she was being held there after she was abducted from her home. Once the police were called by the
parents of Danielle when they discovered that she was missing. The next crime scene is the motor
home of David Westerfield was stocked with supplies on Saturday morning when he left his home
minutes after Brenda Danielle s mother called the police to report her daughter missing. The motor
home became the main crime scene because it yields the most evidence and it is where the crime of

Visual Aspects Of The Graphic Design
As a creative minded person, I enjoy viewing the world through all its visual aspects. Whether the
things I notice are inanimate objects or breathing beings, I take locations, mediums, and other minute
details into consideration when committing them to memory. I think as an up and coming media artist
it is important to utilize your surroundings with your creations. The details that I notice may inspire
me in my own personal works as well as those that I create for others. Everyday experiences influence
the style and techniques I chose to include or experiment within my works. The process of semiotics is
constantly in practice as I explore and study the world around me.

Though this project was created as an assignment for my making class, much of my own thought and
imagination went into it as the requirements and expectations were vague. Likewise, although this
piece is not graphic design nor digitally created, I feel that this is one my best works that utilized a
distinctive thought process and showcases my artistic style. (This is a photo of the project):
When first introduced to this project the only requirements addressed were that four objects with one
serving as a container were to be created and become a portrait of any person. The other requirement
was the one had to be constructed out of metal, other than that one could create anything they felt was
necessary. I chose Frida Kahlo as the subject of my portrait as she was and is an iconic artist that I find
very intriguing. I had already been aware of Kahlo and several of her works before this specific
assignment, her complicated history, and continual persistence served as my inspiration source. I was
inspired by Kahlo for this portrait since she has made several self portraits within her lifetime and
developed her unique personalities striving as an independent female artist. I felt the need to utilize the
opportunity to create an atypical piece in admiration of the unique individual. The objects of the
portrait are made up of a hand painted flower pot displaying Frida s face in a traditional Mexican
style, a handcrafted monkey, a

The Incident Of The Japanese War
It was June 12th, 1941, and William and I were eating dinner in the mess tent when suddenly we heard
gunfire and then the camp sirens. The Japanese were attacking! It was 5:30 pm in Baton in the South
Pacific. It had been just another hot and so far, uneventful day in the US Army. William had just been
assigned to my unit and arrived at our camp from the Philippines earlier that day. And now, without
warning or time to catch up, we were under attack.
Everyone got up and ran to get their gear. I yelled to William, over the siren, You ready for some
action. He replied Heck, yeah! We got our gear and ran to the command tent to get our orders. Along

William had been my best friend since 1st grade and the summer after high school we were drafted
and became soldiers in the U.S. Army. It seemed so unreal that we were here together.
By now, it was 6:00 pm and it was going poorly. Every time we shot one that was firing at us, it
seemed like five more came and took their place. Around 6:05 pm they started shelling us with heavy
artillery. The shells were going on all around us and they just kept coming and coming and getting
louder and faster. One shell seemed as big as a watermelon and could take out a building with a single
hit. Then
suddenly, it stopped but we knew they were still there and watching us. I yelled to William,
Remember when we were boys and we were talking about how great the army would be. Well, now I
think my opinion has changed. He replied, Look at all we have made it through to get to this point. I
said, Let s get through this too. We were all tired and almost out of ammo. Something needed to be
done and so a task force was formed to go find and destroy the artillery. I volunteered along with four
others.
We set out during a lull in the battle with grim faces, grenades, and our rifles. We heard the shelling
start again and were glad we weren t back at camp or back in the trench. When suddenly, all heck
broke loose and two of our guys went down immediately. I shouted, Take cover! There were six of
them. I shot my rifle then dropped to the ground as bullets raced by my head. I

Andrew Carnegie And The Gospel Of Wealth
Andrew Carnegie (1835 1919) was a major American industrialist in the late 19th century and after
obtaining substantial wealth from his steel industry, became an advocate for giving back to the less
fortunate. Carnegie s desire to donate to those less fortunate came from past experiences, growing up
as an immigrant and working in a cotton factory young. He knew and understood the hardships that
people faced when not able to acquire the type of wealth he rose to earn. Through his long life this
atypical businessman advocated for many and dedicated the later years of his life to promoting the
general welfare of the world.
After having enough of the steel industry in which Carnegie built from the ground up, with little
training and knowledge in the field, other than his past experiences from working on the railroads and
investing in oil and iron companies, The Gospel of Wealth (1889) was written. At the time of booming
industry, few men had the opportunity to amass such vast fortunes such as Carnegie, and in writing
The Gospel of Wealth (1889), Carnegie wanted to inspire to those with money to donate and give back

common welfare for the average American. Although Andrew Carnegie did not write any other essay,

The Slave Next Door Analysis
The second part of The Slave Next Door, is a lot different than the first part. The second part is more
about the ways in which human trafficking can come to an end or ways to prevent it from occurring.
One of the main things that the second part talks about is on the need for more drastic state and federal
laws to discontinue human trafficking and to hold the government accountable for the persecution of
perpetrators and the assistance for victims. Besides the need of more state and federal laws, the
authors motivate the readers to act towards this issue. The authors did a great job of starting the

ideas of revolutions and communism, communism believes in a society where everything is equal and

Partly because of their size, MNCs tend to dominate the sectors in which they specialize. As a result,
their transnational business ventures offer much debate about their impact on developing countries;
many arguments have been proposed on this subject alone ( ). This paper will be used to illustrate the
opportunities created by MNCs for less developed countries. A historical account will be presented

views will also be used for the purpose of evaluating the influence of MNCs in the areas of growth

The earliest version of the modern MNC is visible in the imperialistic and colonizing ventures by
Western Europe, dating back to the 16th century. The modern version of the MNC was apparent with

for the long list of elected offices on the ballot. I recognized some of the names on the ballot, but other

We have to remember that politics are complex and the government has already solved the easy
problems and we must accept the complexity of the process, Black says. By knowing this we can

government depends on compromise and the ability for each representative to not only express their
views but listen to others who oppose them. We must learn to listen to our neighbors to be able to
create a society that is great in the eyes of God. One must be prepared to debate over issues they
believe are right and wrong, but never stray away from your own personal beliefs and values just
because someone does not agree. Black says to look outside of politics to help address problems such
as in your church or in your family. She says, Model Christian values in your family, and set a positive
example for others (Black 197). She states that we should honor and respect your public officials
because most are dedicated public servants trying to do their best to make a difference. Finally, Black

Early Childcare Essay
Page, Clare and Nutbrown (2013) suggest that skills, knowledge, understanding, and capabilities are
central to the quality of provision in early childcare settings. Research has established the connection
between staff qualifications and the quality of the early years provision, alongside the differences in
quality between maintained and private, voluntary and independent (PVI) settings (Robert Holmes,
2012). It is understood that maintained nursery education was originally staffed by early years
teachers, supported by nursery nurses with a level two qualification, and have since been replaced by
graduates with qualified teacher status (QTS). Meanwhile, in the PVI sector, nursery nurses holding a

It intended to employ an EYP within every children s centre by 2010, full day care settings by 2015
and have all settings move towards an NVQ level three as the minimum required qualification (Jones,
2014). However, it is apparent that this incentive failed as institutions offering EYPS courses are
getting rid of them in favour of the QTS. In addition, the new and revised EYFS published in the 2017
states in each room there need only be one member of staff with a level three qualification whilst half
of all other staff hold a level two (DfE, 2017). The statutory framework s requirements for the
qualifications of staff are identical to that of 2008 (DfE, 2008), allowing half of remaining staff to be
unqualified and level three to be an acceptable level for leadership; suggesting no progress has been
made in the PVI sector for nine years.
Eisenstadt, Sylva, Mathers and Taggart (2013) suggest that EYPS is not comparable to the QTS and
therefore practitioners with the status will not be eligible for teacher pay and conditions (p. 2). As a
practitioner this is demoralising and demotivating as it is suggested that qualified teachers directing
early years practice, with excellent pedagogical leadership, will not only improve quality but raise the
status of the sector and increase professionalism (Nutbrown, 2012), but there is no incentives or

The Difficulties of Treating MRSA Essay
The Difficulties of Treating MRSA
MRSA is difficult to treat because of it s resistance. Acquired immune processes include the body s
adaptive response to antibiotics. ie when given the body makes specific antibodies to combat MRSA
by destroying it s outer membrane. Antibiotics can be given orally or through injections. The main
antibiotics used are vancomycin and rifampicin and they are most effective when used in combination.
If it s used early then it can eradicate the infection within 48 hours. Moreover, as a preventative
measure it may be given immediately after surgery (particularly invasive techniques.) Vancomycin is
considered the last line of defence but alone it may be ineffective as, ... Show more content on

Modulations of antibiotics policies alone do not ultimately eliminate MRSA from clinical settings.
Thus, another method for the cytoxicity of MRSA is described by Von Eiff et al. They describe how S.
Aureus can be killed in vitro by shock waves. They also suggest osmolyte stimulation of innate anti
microbial defence systems and bacteriophhage therapy to eliminate the weaker strains of MRSA.
Therefore, concentrate efforts on a narrower range of MRSA so MRSA as a whole is more likely to be
significantly reduced if not eradicated completely.
Other alternatives to anti biotics include surgery. This may be via thorough the excision of all infected
tissue and bone (which is a compulsory procedure,) the management of dead space with packing or
drains.
However, anti biotics used in combination with surgery is often necessary for a more long term cure.
On top of this the management of MRSA requires infection control, offloading, adequate vascularity,
and meticulous wound care.
A surgical option could be through maggot therapy. This is the debridement of necrotic tissue with
sterile fly larvae and clinical trials suggest it is very effective in relation to MRSA. Maggots can
provide a cost effective alternative to conventional treatments, but the therapy become very unpopular
with the introduction of antibiotics. However, with the treatment of chronic wounds

How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake
3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly
destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact because
of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population density in this
city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake was the plate
tectonics at that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean continental
convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate. As they
converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until they release
energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust, eventually
reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic setting, the
geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the earthquake. The
land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil composition. While
these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to the region during an
earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to reverberate vibrations,
worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in the city to sway back and
forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup causes

Scheduling
At the beginning of this school year, the technology department increased from five techs to the
current eleven techs. This was both a blessing and a curse, because I am new to the whole
management position that is very unofficial! However, I was up to the task and started off by looking
at the schedule and making changes. Most of the courses strategies and suggestions for scheduling are
focused on demands, inventory, delivery times and sub contracting none of which are scheduling
concerns for me. In my particular case, demand for help is the greatest concern. The techs here do not
deal with an inventory or sub contracting; they have two four hour shifts in a day to cover two sites.

forest for a family fire , simply have lost relevance in modern society. Other words have been replaced
with a more efficient word, such as fallaciloquence being replaced with flattery. Additional archaic
words still exist, however, usually only in idioms, as in the case of sleight of hand . Often miswritten
as slight of hand , sleight is a word of Middle English origin meaning sneaky or crafty . Very few
people today realize the common misnomer of the idiom, making sleight even rarer today. Verbs are
not excluded from annihilation either, as hundreds of verbs have either been eliminated from Modern
English or have transitioned into different forms and meanings. Some verbs, which originated as
strong verbs , irregular verbs which have past tense forms without the requirement of an ending, have
become weak verbs , or verbs that require endings like ed , en , or t . In earlier versions of English, the
language contained a higher prevalence of strong verbs compared to weak verbs. However, throughout
the centuries there has been a clear decline of strong verbs. Many strong verbs became weak verbs or
disappeared completely, as when the language developed and the number of English speakers grew,
many strong verbs became rigid in their uses, and the unpracticed,

How Anti Semitism Is Put Forward As The Nazi Regime Gains...

How Anti Semitism Is Put Forward as the Nazi Regime Gains Power When we look back onto the
origins of the Holocaust, we immediately have ideas of what the Nazis might have done, though it
might not be exactly correct. We probably think that it was explicitly Nazi hating and targeting Jewish
people from the start kind of thing, but there were many layers and events that happened before that
point. The Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP for short, or the Nazi Party), led by
Adolf Hitler, was not even an important entity or political force in Germany until about ten to fifteen
years before the war, so how did they become so popular and powerful in ... Show more content on

In Pre Modern Europe, Jews would be the largest minority. Jews would follow their own law of
Judaism (which had rules such as how to dress and when to work) that would differ from the Christian
way. Because of this difference, there was a little tension between the Christians and Jews, but they
did co exist. However, Jews did sometimes get expelled from certain regions. Furthermore, Jews
would not be treated as people who practiced a different religion but as people of a separate biological
race. Now as countries and borders became more and more apparent, nationalism came on the rise. In
order to be nationalistic and band together with others of the same nationality, one must have
something or someone to band together against, and unfortunately but predictably, Jews were the
target of this newfound nationalism. This resentment of the Jews in Europe had been instilled in their
mindset going into the interwar period ( Racism, Anti
‐Semitism, Colonialism ).
For example, in Protocols of the Elders of Zion, written in 1902, someone who had anti Semitic views
forges a document and writes from the point of view of a Jew about all the terrible ideas the Jews
believe (363 367). Protocols was used as anti Semitic propaganda, such describing Jews as being bent
on world domination and having the ability to control the masses through medicine, finance, politics,
and the media. In other words, Jews were seen as vile and evil in the eyes of

The Traditional Education System Is Vital For The Next...
For many, the traditional education system is viewed as vital for the next phase of life. However for a
select population, it is not effective and an alternative means for obtaining an education is necessary.
Adult education provides people a chance to change their previous views about education and, most
importantly, the opportunity to change their path in life. In 1968, Henry McNeil had just turned
sixteen and thought that he was prepared for the workforce, so he quit high school. After he dropped
out, a job was easily achieved even without a high school diploma because of his hardworking
attitude. The ability to adapt to his job gave him employment until he was fifty eight. However, when
the economy took a downward spiral, the companies that had once overlooked the education of the
applicant in place of a good mentality, now were not able to take the risk. Insurance that the potential
employee was educated weighed in more than the experience gained from prior jobs. Henry McNeil
needed a new path for his life and decided to go back to school to achieve it. Every person does not go
through the same intellectual stages of life at the same time. Every person is different, so diverse
options for education are necessary. Therefore, adult education systems in Caldwell County and the
United States of America deserve as much attention as youth education systems.
The concept of adult education originated nearly a century ago. American society realized another
education system

Quiet American Imperialism
Everyone is born under different circumstances, different experiences, and develop different positions.
Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against.
Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks
people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical
appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of
imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the
constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent.
Women were objectified and a straightjacket of propriety, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning
simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the
natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle
responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than
love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of
its biasness.
It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from
giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within
the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at
these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people,
without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character
represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist,
maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to
his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I
believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow
describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like

Child Left Behind Act
The possible risks of passing a child to the next grade level due to the No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB) could affect children from being the next leaders of America. So much that it has had a
tremendous impact on their quality of education, testing skills, learning, and funding. The No Child
Left Behind Act was passed in the year of 2002. It was established to require states and school districts
to ensure that all of the students are learning and are reaching their highest potential. It is true that
every student can learn, however not on the same day or in the same way. Since the act was passed

Yes, some policies and guidelines have been changed, but is it growing with the different communities
and disadvantaged students? When the No Child Left Behind Act was implemented and signed by
President George W. Bush in 2002 it was designed to hold the schools accountable for the children s
education (Klein, 2015). In order for our children to become the next leaders of America our
educational system must be changed as well. If the funding can be provided as it is, then the time,
quality of education, testing skills, and learning abilities can be increased. After all, the school boards

Essay about Women in the Workforce
The sight of a working woman today is not something that causes one to look twice. However, this
was not always the case. It was a long struggle for women to get to where they are today, and there is
still a long way to go. There were a few momentous occasions throughout history that caused a shift in
the way women were viewed as workers, such as the need for workers during World War II, the Equal
Pay Act, and the appointment of Sandra Day O Connor to the Supreme Court. Women have made
great strides in integrating themselves into the workforce alongside men and continue to do so today.
Throughout much of history, women have been viewed as inferior to men. In the 1800s and early
1900s, women were not allowed to hold the same jobs or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the advent of protests one would think that rights would come quickly to prevent violence and
more uprisings. Sadly, this was not the case. Women s rights were slow to come and it would still be
many years before they achieved even a semblance of equality to men. In the 1920s women became
more independent and started to slowly gain rights ( Women of the Century ). Women s suffrage was
finally granted in 1920, which was a huge step towards equality for men and women. For the first
time, women were able to vote on issues that mattered to them, which was extremely important in
order to gain more rights. In 1923, the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced, although it
would not be passed in Congress until almost fifty years later. Despite these steps of progress, the
Great Depression caused some setbacks. Due to the large numbers of unemployment, women were
discouraged from taking jobs away from men ( Women of the Century). Some states even went so far
as to pass laws prohibiting the hiring of women. World War II began quickly after this which greatly
increased the number of women in the work force. World War II was the first time that women were
greatly encouraged to join the workforce. Nearly 6 million women took industrial jobs such as steel
plants, shipyards, and lumber mills at the urging of the government and media ( Women of the
Century ). Because the men were away fighting in

Operation Christmas Child Research Paper
In the middle of November, I stood in the middle of a loud and dusty warehouse. The floors were
covered in filth and the room was filled with a mixed age group ranging from thirteen to eighty five. I
glanced around at all of the workers and volunteers, they were so joyful and enthusiastic. It took me
all of five minutes to recognize why I was there. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children
across the world. This was the moment in time when I realized just how fortunate my family was and
how something as simple as a cardboard shoebox could mean so much to children across the world.
Being appreciative of all that God has provided for me became very evident while at Operation
Christmas Child. This was a major component of my maturity ... Show more content on

Searching the boxes required the worker to extract any donations and unacceptable items such as:
liquids, toys relating to war and chocolate. Filling the boxes was another position. Here, the volunteer
would add filler items to the boxes to make certain that each child would receive a full box. Some of
the boxes were special boxes . Special boxes were going to be delivered to a restricted area that did
not want the children to receive anything that promoted Christianity. So for these shoe boxes, we
would remove any Bibles, coloring books (that are related to the bible) and anything with a bible verse
on it. These shoe boxes were very significant because they could still show children the love of Jesus
Christ.
Taping the boxes was my assignment, meaning, I secured each of the boxes with transparent packing
tape. This was by far my favorite position because I was constantly in motion and an essential role that
I was able to take leadership on. With each box that I came in contact with, I was able to pray over the
children who would receive that box and the impact that it would have on them and their

Ghost Soldiers Book Summary
Ghost Soldiers is a book that chronicles the horrific and tragic events that happened to the prisoners of
the Japanese camp in Cabanatuan. The book intertwines two main timelines; the treatment of the
POWs in Japanese custody, starting from the death march and continuing through the rescue mission,
and the story of the Rangers assignment and how it was formed. The Bataan Death March was the
march that brought the POWs to the Cabanatuan camp. Many were shot just for slowing down and
almost all of the prisoners were severely dehydrated during the march. That lead to many of them
drinking dirty and infested water. When they reached the camp, disease and infection ran wild. Many
POWs were tortured and starved, some to death, while many others ... Show more content on

They encountered many obstacles such as delaying 24 hours due to Japanese soldiers leaving the camp
unexpectedly. This book shows the courage of all soldiers and prisoners involved in these events.
Even with such an amazing and thrilling plot base, this book was incredibly difficult to sit and read.
Readers find themselves becoming lost and rereading passages and pages. While I greatly respect all
of the prisoners and soldiers for their courage and strength during this incredibly troublesome
encounter, this book did their valor no justice. Although this book is incredibly descriptive and
detailed, it is frequently thorough to a fault. It often takes the author three pages to describe something
that has little to no relevance to the actual plot. These little sub stories are often left unresolved. The
fact that the author goes completely off topic and rambles and then just leaves it untouched for the rest
of the story, adds to the already confusing intertwining plots and timelines. The actual mission that the
Rangers endured was entrancing all on its own . There is absolutely no need for pages upon pages of
useless side missions and

Mr. Franco Case Summary
Mr. Franco presented with concerns about some recent health issues that his doctor said may have to
do with his drinking. He was a heavy drinker in his younger years and had cut back due to high blood
pressure and stomach problems. Mr. Franco had started drinking more recently, due to his wife s death
and the loneliness he was feeling, plus he was having more arthritis pain than usual. After asking Mr.
Franco a couple of preliminary questions it was decided that the AUDIT needed to be administered.
Mr. Franco s score on the AUDIT was thirteen, which is in the risky zone. It was explained to Mr.
Franco that his score indicated that his health issues could be related to his drinking and that he
needed a plan to help him cut down on his drinking.

  • 2. Essay On Batman A Vigilante Vigilante with a Large Wallet In the world of superheroes, there are numerous that believe they are heroes, while in actuality, they are merely vigilantes. This is demonstrated throughout the world of superheroes, but it is not as prominently demonstrated as in Batman. Batman presents himself as a hero, while he is only an over imaginative vigilante. He is more a vigilante than a hero since he has the ability to stop crime, but doesn t, he only does deeds for his own benefit, and he helps the law but isn t part of it. These are only a few ways Batman is a vigilante, rather than a hero. These are mainly based upon the idea of him trying to right his own past. Heroes have the tendency to fight crime or serve the public without having to have a personal reason, this is not the case for Batman. Batman regularly, if not constantly, fights crime for his own benefit. While Batman was still Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a soon to be supervillain, this caused him to have an alternative motive to become a hero. Even if he does not directly advance on his parent s murder, he still attacks ever villain that he thinks did him an injustice. He smashes any and everything in his way while pursuing his ends, (Wilson). While Batman smashes through his own intentions, Captain America fights crimes/serves the city for the people not for his own benefit. Batman might seem to be doing what a hero is supposed to do, but he is merely trying to avenge his parents death. Police are perplexed, worried the group will turn into vigilantes and doubt that the superhero policy is ever stopped any crime, (source A). This is the same with Batman; the police do not know what to fashion of him, but are worried that he will insert himself in trouble. Batman might seem to be doing activities for others, still he does them for himself. Many professions are traditionally occupied by one gender over the other, identified as occupational segregation (Hoffnung et al., 2013). Furthermore, Hoffnung and colleagues (2013), state that females are often perceived as carrying the burden of parenthood and general domestic chores, often in positions such as domestic labour. Whereas males are traditionally employed in positions with lower social demands, in more quantitatively and physically demanding positions. During the last thirty years there has been a notable increase of females into traditionally male roles, however this has not been the case for males entering female dominated roles (Hoffnung et al., 2013). Although there are growing numbers of men entering nursing, they still account for a small minority of the workforce, unrepresentative of society (Weaver, Ferguson, Wilbourn Salamonson, 2013). Church of the Brethren is a denomination that was formed to continue their practices their own way. They started as a small group and to this day still recruit new members. They solely use the New Testament as their source of guidance for the practice they preach. Rational Choice theory explains Church of the Brethren s position in opposing abortion. The Church of the Brethren opposes abortion because the rejection of unborn children violates the love by which God creates and nurtures human life (1984). This is the Church of Brethren s official position concerning abortion. They feel they are responsible for the children who are unwanted. They believe in various alternatives to abortion for the people in their community. They still will love and support those who believe that eliminating a child from their womb is the correct thing. Opposing abortion falls in favor with the majority of the Church of the Brethren. However, meetings are held with the Standing Committee to discuss controversial topics, such as abortion. The Church of the Brethren suggests that human life existed way before conception in Psalm 51:5. Also in Jeremiah 1:5, which states that he, was acknowledged before conception. The life of the fetus and of the mother are described as valuable in Exodus 21:22 25 (1972). According to these scriptures, the life of a fetus is important before even existing. ... • 7. Teens And Hispanic Teenage Pregnancy There are many factors when it comes to which teenagers are most likely to get pregnant. These factors consist of race, the country they live in, and economic status. Starting with race, whites have a significantly lower rate of teenage pregnancy than those who are Hispanic or African American. White and African American teenage pregnancies have both gone down while Hispanic teenage pregnancy has gone up in the last 15 years (Coley Chase Lansdale, 1998). Even though Hispanic teenagers tend to be sexually active later in their adolescence, studies have proven that they are less likely to use birth control; increasing the likelihood of becoming pregnant. Once pregnant they are less likely to abort than Whites or African Americans leading to a higher rate of Hispanic teenage pregnancies (Coley Chase Lansdale, 1998). While race plays a big role, what country you live in also contributes to your chances of being pregnant as a teenager. In fact, at the beginning of this decade, the rate of teenage births was almost twice as high in the United States as in the country with the next highest rate, Great Britain; more than 4 times greater than those of Sweden and Spain; 7 times greater than those of Denmark and the Netherlands; and 15 times greater than that of Japan (Coley Chase Lansdale, 1998, p. 152). • 8. Platonic Love In Plato s Symposium Plato s Symposium attempts to define the eclectic theory of love, a theory that is often believed to be the universal principle that guides mankind s actions. Plato introduces several narratives in the form of a dialogue that seek to characterize this multifaceted theory of Eros. The meaning of love naturally varies in each narrative. Yet, in this dialogue of love, Plato presents a metaphysical approach to understanding the ambiguous meaning of love. Ultimately, Plato values the perennial quest for knowledge above all else. In Symposium, Platonic love is exhibited in the relationship between virtue and desire, as expressed in Diotima s ladder. Desire is the vehicle, or the means to an end. The older man will exchange his knowledge and virtue to the younger man for the fulfillment of the older man s sexual desires. Like Plato, Pausanias believes that the highest maxim in the world to strive for is virtue: For he too has demonstrated something about himself: that he is the sort of person who will do anything for the sake of virtue and what could be more honorable that that? It follows, therefore, that giving in to your lover for virtue s sake is honorable, what ever the outcome. (185B) Yet, Plato, through Socrates and Diotima, differs from Pausanias in the way in which virtue is obtained. For Pausanias, the relationship between desire and virtue requires favors to be exchanged for both bodily and mindful stimulation. Since virtue is the desired outcome for the young man, he must submit to the authority of the older man by basically any means necessary, namely through sexual favors. Homosexuality appears to be a common beginning for the quest of virtue and philosophy, but by what means necessary to obtain these ends? Plato presents Pausanias s theory to be only partially correct, as he ultimately extols a love that requires no sexual love. In Pausanias s theory of love, sexual love is necessary to fulfill the both needs. Plato s ideal form of love is fully expressed in the concept of Diotima s ladder. A Greek astronomer named Ptolemy agreed with Aristotle theory and made a model that provided a decent accurate system for predicting the places where heavenly bodies in the sky were located. His model was accepted and adopted generally. But then a simpler model made by a Polish priest, Nicholas Copernicus was suggested. His idea was that the sun was still at the center and that the earth and the planets moved in circular orbits around the sun. Two astronomers took this idea seriously Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei and they started publicly supporting the Copernican theory. The death of the Aristotelian/Ptolemaic theory came in 1609 when Galileo started to look at the sky with a telescope. When he looked at Jupiter he saw that it was by a lot of small satellites or moon that orbited around it. Johannes then changed Copernicus s theory a bit by suggesting that the planets move in ellipses instead of circles. An explanation came when Isaac Newton published his Philosophiae Naturalis Principia mathematica in 1687. In it he provided a theory of how bodies move in space and time. He also made the complicated mathematics needed to analyze those motions. Then questions were raised like whether the universe had a beginning in time and whether it is limited in space. Edwin Hubble in 1929 made an observation that the galaxies are moving rapidly away from us like the universe is expanding. Then he thought that the universe was really close ... Americans do not eat horsemeat; we consider horses to be favored animals, just like dogs and cats. The idea of eating a horse, a cat, or a dog just goes against our very culture. It was foreign interests that brought the horse slaughter industry to the United States and built equine slaughterhouses here. By the 1990 s, there were at least sixteen equine slaughterhouses operating all across the United States. At that time, most Americans did not even realize that such an industry even existed in their country. Over the years, the industry grew larger and people began to use slaughter as an opportune way to get rid of their undesired horses. Rather than take responsibility for their horses by either taking the time to place them in a horse sanctuary or by paying a licensed veterinarian put them down humanely, owners would ship them to a slaughter house and get paid for doing so. In today s United States there is a debate ensuing on whether to lift the ban on equine slaughter which was enacted in 2007. There are practical as well as commercial arguments that can be made in favor of horse slaughter, and there are ethical and environmental reasons to oppose it. In this paper I plan on addressing both sides of the debate as well as explaining each sides main points. • 12. Eugenics And Its Impact On Society Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating poverty, crime, and social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are closely interdependent. Changes within society cause a need for modifications within the school system. Similarly, alterations within the school system impact society. Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in drastic educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school reform to the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is the study of the agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school systems; American s often want to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an insidious effect on the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were passed down in families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided to sterilize many families who may carry these traits. They argued, America must be kept American (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept provided the guiding ideology behind ... This is entirely hypothetical, yet plausible, scenario of how your contribution to the economy as a consumer could enhance your economic opportunities. For example, perhaps you decide that you no longer wish to eat meat, and decide to go vegetarian. This may seem like a relatively personal, and inconsequential decision, yet it is actually very influential. If a large number of people decided to become vegetarian, the meat industry would take a direct hit: obviously, there would be less meat demanded, and profits would decrease. Furthermore, as less people demanded meat, the price would go down, as less people purchased meat and it became harder to sell. Another effect this newfound vegetarianism would have is due to cross price elasticity of meat and vegetables. As the demand of meats goes down, the price of vegetables and grains would likely go up, as more are demanded. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(This is a photo of the project): When first introduced to this project the only requirements addressed were that four objects with one serving as a container were to be created and become a portrait of any person. The other requirement was the one had to be constructed out of metal, other than that one could create anything they felt was necessary. I chose Frida Kahlo as the subject of my portrait as she was and is an iconic artist that I find very intriguing. I had already been aware of Kahlo and several of her works before this specific assignment, her complicated history, and continual persistence served as my inspiration source. I was inspired by Kahlo for this portrait since she has made several self portraits within her lifetime and developed her unique personalities striving as an independent female artist. Around 6:05 pm they started shelling us with heavy artillery. The shells were going on all around us and they just kept coming and coming and getting louder and faster. One shell seemed as big as a watermelon and could take out a building with a single hit. Then suddenly, it stopped but we knew they were still there and watching us. I yelled to William, Remember when we were boys and we were talking about how great the army would be. Well, now I think my opinion has changed. He replied, Look at all we have made it through to get to this point. I said, Let s get through this too. We were all tired and almost out of ammo. Something needed to be done and so a task force was formed to go find and destroy the artillery. I volunteered along with four others. We set out during a lull in the battle with grim faces, grenades, and our rifles. We heard the shelling start again and were glad we weren t back at camp or back in the trench. Andrew Carnegie And The Gospel Of Wealth Andrew Carnegie (1835 1919) was a major American industrialist in the late 19th century and after obtaining substantial wealth from his steel industry, became an advocate for giving back to the less fortunate. Carnegie s desire to donate to those less fortunate came from past experiences, growing up as an immigrant and working in a cotton factory young. He knew and understood the hardships that people faced when not able to acquire the type of wealth he rose to earn. Through his long life this atypical businessman advocated for many and dedicated the later years of his life to promoting the general welfare of the world. In addition, the new and revised EYFS published in the 2017 states in each room there need only be one member of staff with a level three qualification whilst half of all other staff hold a level two (DfE, 2017). The statutory framework s requirements for the qualifications of staff are identical to that of 2008 (DfE, 2008), allowing half of remaining staff to be unqualified and level three to be an acceptable level for leadership; suggesting no progress has been made in the PVI sector for nine years. Eisenstadt, Sylva, Mathers and Taggart (2013) suggest that EYPS is not comparable to the QTS and therefore practitioners with the status will not be eligible for teacher pay and conditions (p. 2). Therefore, concentrate efforts on a narrower range of MRSA so MRSA as a whole is more likely to be significantly reduced if not eradicated completely. Other alternatives to anti biotics include surgery. This may be via thorough the excision of all infected tissue and bone (which is a compulsory procedure,) the management of dead space with packing or drains. However, anti biotics used in combination with surgery is often necessary for a more long term cure. • 37. How Does Earthquake Affect The Mexico Earthquake 3.) The recent Mexico City earthquake that occurred on September 9th, 2017, was incredibly destructive and devastating to the region. This natural disaster had such a significant impact because of the plate tectonic plate setting, as well as the soil composition and high population density in this city. One of the main factors that contributed to the dramatic impact of the earthquake was the plate tectonics at that setting. The southwestern coast of Mexico is located along an ocean continental convergent boundary, where the Cocoas Plate subducts under the North American Plate. As they converge and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate, tension builds until they release energy at the hypocenter. This causes seismic waves to radiate out through the crust, eventually reaching the surface and causing and earthquake. In addition to the plate tectonic setting, the geological composition of the region also was to blame for the vast destruction of the earthquake. The land the city is built on is primarily sand and clay. This is a very soft, fertile soil composition. While these characteristics are very beneficial for farming, they can be detrimental to the region during an earthquake. This soil is loosely compacted, which allows seismic waves to reverberate vibrations, worsening the impact. This causes the tall, multistoried buildings found in the city to sway back and forth, as the ground holding them is so unstable. Also, soil of this makeup causes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some words, like affuage , which means the right to cut wood in a forest for a family fire , simply have lost relevance in modern society. Additional archaic words still exist, however, usually only in idioms, as in the case of sleight of hand . Furthermore, Jews would not be treated as people who practiced a different religion but as people of a separate biological race. Now as countries and borders became more and more apparent, nationalism came on the rise. In order to be nationalistic and band together with others of the same nationality, one must have something or someone to band together against, and unfortunately but predictably, Jews were the target of this newfound nationalism. However for a select population, it is not effective and an alternative means for obtaining an education is necessary. Adult education provides people a chance to change their previous views about education and, most importantly, the opportunity to change their path in life. In 1968, Henry McNeil had just turned sixteen and thought that he was prepared for the workforce, so he quit high school. After he dropped out, a job was easily achieved even without a high school diploma because of his hardworking attitude. The ability to adapt to his job gave him employment until he was fifty eight. However, when the economy took a downward spiral, the companies that had once overlooked the education of the applicant in place of a good mentality, now were not able to take the risk. Insurance that the potential employee was educated weighed in more than the experience gained from prior jobs. Henry McNeil needed a new path for his life and decided to go back to school to achieve it. Every person does not go through the same intellectual stages of life at the same time. Every person is different, so diverse options for education are necessary. Therefore, adult education systems in Caldwell County and the United States of America deserve as much attention as youth education systems. • 45. Quiet American Imperialism Everyone is born under different circumstances, different experiences, and develop different positions. Although gender allows our existence to flourish, females were and are still discriminated against. Similar to those people who experienced the dismantle of their culture and people, imperialism seeks people who are different. They observe the differences of language, culture, and even physical appearances. In Heart of Darkness and The Quiet American, the treatment of women and victims of imperialism are almost indistinguishable. Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene were both aware of the constraints women in the 19th and 20th century faced for simply being rational and intelligent. Women were objectified and a straightjacket of propriety, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallelism between female suppression and the conquest of the natives are functioning simultaneously in Conrad s novel. Women are too, those being victimized. They are similar to the natives who were objectified and perceived to be uncivilized and ultimately unable to handle responsibility. They are lied to, promised things, and bound by a traditional institution rather than love. Conrad, therefore acknowledges this misconstruction of gender equality, by becoming aware of its biasness. It is also argued that Conrad had racist tendencies in Heart of Darkness because he refrains from giving a voice to the Africans. He does this as well with women, refraining from much dialogue within the text several times. But does this truly make him a racist or a sexist, for that matter? Readers look at these examples as a cut and clear indication that Conrad had no regard for these groups of people, without a full examination of his intentions. I believe the evolution of Marlow as a character represents Conrad s true intention. Marlow right off the start of the novel can be seen as a sexist, maybe because of the lack of a female character in his life. He feels embarrassed that he has to go to his aunt for a job, but he does acknowledge her pull to get him an opportunity to travel the Congo. I believe Conrad was being satirical when he presented this view of Marlow on women. Marlow describes women as living, in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like ... When the No Child Left Behind Act was implemented and signed by President George W. Bush in 2002 it was designed to hold the schools accountable for the children s education (Klein, 2015). In order for our children to become the next leaders of America our educational system must be changed as well. • 48. Essay about Women in the Workforce The sight of a working woman today is not something that causes one to look twice. However, this was not always the case. It was a long struggle for women to get to where they are today, and there is still a long way to go. There were a few momentous occasions throughout history that caused a shift in the way women were viewed as workers, such as the need for workers during World War II, the Equal Pay Act, and the appointment of Sandra Day O Connor to the Supreme Court. Women have made great strides in integrating themselves into the workforce alongside men and continue to do so today. Throughout much of history, women have been viewed as inferior to men. In the 1800s and early 1900s, women were not allowed to hold the same jobs or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the advent of protests one would think that rights would come quickly to prevent violence and more uprisings. Sadly, this was not the case. Women s rights were slow to come and it would still be many years before they achieved even a semblance of equality to men. In the 1920s women became more independent and started to slowly gain rights ( Women of the Century ). Women s suffrage was finally granted in 1920, which was a huge step towards equality for men and women. For the first time, women were able to vote on issues that mattered to them, which was extremely important in order to gain more rights. In 1923, the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced, although it would not be passed in Congress until almost fifty years later. Despite these steps of progress, the Great Depression caused some setbacks. Due to the large numbers of unemployment, women were discouraged from taking jobs away from men ( Women of the Century). Some states even went so far as to pass laws prohibiting the hiring of women. World War II began quickly after this which greatly increased the number of women in the work force. World War II was the first time that women were greatly encouraged to join the workforce. Nearly 6 million women took industrial jobs such as steel plants, shipyards, and lumber mills at the urging of the government and media ( Women of the Century ). • 49. Operation Christmas Child Research Paper In the middle of November, I stood in the middle of a loud and dusty warehouse. The floors were covered in filth and the room was filled with a mixed age group ranging from thirteen to eighty five. I glanced around at all of the workers and volunteers, they were so joyful and enthusiastic. It took me all of five minutes to recognize why I was there. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children across the world. This was the moment in time when I realized just how fortunate my family was and how something as simple as a cardboard shoebox could mean so much to children across the world. Being appreciative of all that God has provided for me became very evident while at Operation Christmas Child. This was a major component of my maturity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Searching the boxes required the worker to extract any donations and unacceptable items such as: liquids, toys relating to war and chocolate. Filling the boxes was another position. Here, the volunteer would add filler items to the boxes to make certain that each child would receive a full box. Some of the boxes were special boxes . Special boxes were going to be delivered to a restricted area that did not want the children to receive anything that promoted Christianity. So for these shoe boxes, we would remove any Bibles, coloring books (that are related to the bible) and anything with a bible verse on it. These shoe boxes were very significant because they could still show children the love of Jesus Christ. Taping the boxes was my assignment, meaning, I secured each of the boxes with transparent packing tape. This was by far my favorite position because I was constantly in motion and an essential role that I was able to take leadership on. With each box that I came in contact with, I was able to pray over the children who would receive that box and the impact that it would have on them and their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Ghost Soldiers Book Summary Ghost Soldiers is a book that chronicles the horrific and tragic events that happened to the prisoners of the Japanese camp in Cabanatuan. The book intertwines two main timelines; the treatment of the POWs in Japanese custody, starting from the death march and continuing through the rescue mission, and the story of the Rangers assignment and how it was formed. The Bataan Death March was the march that brought the POWs to the Cabanatuan camp. Many were shot just for slowing down and almost all of the prisoners were severely dehydrated during the march. That lead to many of them drinking dirty and infested water. When they reached the camp, disease and infection ran wild. Many POWs were tortured and starved, some to death, while many others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They encountered many obstacles such as delaying 24 hours due to Japanese soldiers leaving the camp unexpectedly. This book shows the courage of all soldiers and prisoners involved in these events. Even with such an amazing and thrilling plot base, this book was incredibly difficult to sit and read. Readers find themselves becoming lost and rereading passages and pages. While I greatly respect all of the prisoners and soldiers for their courage and strength during this incredibly troublesome encounter, this book did their valor no justice. Although this book is incredibly descriptive and detailed, it is frequently thorough to a fault. It often takes the author three pages to describe something that has little to no relevance to the actual plot. These little sub stories are often left unresolved. The fact that the author goes completely off topic and rambles and then just leaves it untouched for the rest of the story, adds to the already confusing intertwining plots and timelines. The actual mission that the Rangers endured was entrancing all on its own . There is absolutely no need for pages upon pages of useless side missions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
