The Aztec civilization was located in modern-day Mexico. They had a hierarchical society where warriors and priests were highly respected occupations. The Aztec religion included human sacrifice and many festivals. The Aztec empire came to an end when the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes defeated the Aztec emperor Cuauhtemoc after being welcomed into the capital city of Tenochtitlan, which Cortes later renamed Mexico City. The Aztecs made several achievements including mandatory education and inventing chocolate and popcorn.
