February 4th worldwide is celebrated as Cancer day. The main aim of this celebration is to create awareness about cancer and reduce the burden of cancer.
Myths And Facts About Breast Cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world, with around 2.26 million new cases diagnosed each year. With around 0.7 million fatalities per year worldwide, it is one of the major causes of death among female cancer patients. It is quite common in those aged 25 to 70, with peak prevalence in women aged 50 to 69.
Breast cancer occurs when a pre-cancerous tumour progresses to a malignant tumour in a multi-stage process that is triggered by abnormal and uncontrolled growth of normal cells. These abnormalities are brought on by physical carcinogens (ultraviolet and ionising radiation), chemical carcinogens (alcohol, aflatoxin, tobacco smoke), and biological carcinogens (viral infections, bacteria, or parasites). Breast cancer risk is also increased by genetic factors. 5 to 10% of breast cancer instances are caused by genetic abnormalities passed down through a family’s generations.

The market is driven by a variety of factors, making India an attractive destination for pharmaceutical companies and researchers. India's vast and diverse patient population, cost-effective operational environment, and a large pool of skilled medical professionals contribute significantly to the market's growth. Additionally, increasing government support in streamlining regulations and the growing prevalence of lifestyle diseases further propel the clinical trials market.
Growing Prevalence of Lifestyle Diseases
The rising incidence of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer is a major trend driving the clinical trials market in India. These conditions necessitate the development and testing of new treatment methods, creating a robust demand for clinical trials. The increasing burden of these diseases highlights the need for innovative therapies and underscores the importance of India as a key player in global clinical research.
Antibiotic Stewardship by Anushri Srivastava.pptxAnushriSrivastav
Stewardship is the act of taking good care of something.
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
WHO launched the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) in 2015 to fill knowledge gaps and inform strategies at all levels.
ACCORDING TO apic.org,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
ACCORDING TO pewtrusts.org,
Antibiotic stewardship refers to efforts in doctors’ offices, hospitals, long term care facilities, and other health care settings to ensure that antibiotics are used only when necessary and appropriate
According to WHO,
Antimicrobial stewardship is a systematic approach to educate and support health care professionals to follow evidence-based guidelines for prescribing and administering antimicrobials
In 1996, John McGowan and Dale Gerding first applied the term antimicrobial stewardship, where they suggested a causal association between antimicrobial agent use and resistance. They also focused on the urgency of large-scale controlled trials of antimicrobial-use regulation employing sophisticated epidemiologic methods, molecular typing, and precise resistance mechanism analysis.
Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) refers to the optimal selection, dosing, and duration of antimicrobial treatment resulting in the best clinical outcome with minimal side effects to the patients and minimal impact on subsequent resistance.
According to the 2019 report, in the US, more than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur each year, and more than 35000 people die. In addition to this, it also mentioned that 223,900 cases of Clostridoides difficile occurred in 2017, of which 12800 people died. The report did not include viruses or parasites

cervical cancer and hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes liver cancer.
Cancers of major public health relevance like breast, cervical and colorectal cancer can be cured by an early
detection.
All patients in need of pain relief could be helped by awareness about pain control and palliative care.
More than 30% of cancer could be prevented, mainly by avoiding tobacco, a healthy diet, being physically
active and by moderate use of alcohol.
Cancer Facts
8. Causes of Cancer
Most cancers are related to environmental, lifestyle, or
behavioral exposures.
Cancer results from an uncontrollable growth of cells.
Normal cells in the body are responsible for growth,
division, and death. When this normal functioning is
hampered or this process breaks down, it causes
cancer.
Unlike normal cells, cancer cells do not experience
programmatic death; instead continue to grow and
divide. This leads to a mass of abnormal cells that
grows out of control.
Let’s see what are the risks factors for cancer in the
next slide…
10. Cancer Symptoms
Cancer is a group of diseases that can have varied symptoms.
Not to mention that it is also one of the silent killer diseases. It might not exhibit any signs and symptoms in a
person.
Cancer signs and symptoms can be remembered by the acronym “CAUTION US” which stands for:
Change in bowel or bladder habits
Any sore that does not heal.
Unusual bleeding or discharge.
Thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere.
Indigestion.
Obvious change in a wart or mole.
Nagging cough or hoarseness.
Unexplained anaemia.
Sudden and unexplained weight loss.

Types of Cancer
There are more than 100 types of cancer. Cancer can be broadly classified as follows:
Cancer Types
Anatomical location Based on the tissue from
which it originates
Size of the cancerous
growth
From where the cancer cells
originate.
Example – Prostate cancer
Breast cancer
Cancers are additionally classified
by the type of cell from where the
tumor cells originate.
Example: carcinoma originates from
epithelial cells and sarcoma
originates from the connective
tissue
Cancer based on the size as seen
under the microscope.
Example: Giant cell carcinoma
Spindle cell carcinoma
12. Cancer Prevention
As per WHO, At least 1/3rd of all cancer cases are
preventable and prevention provides the most
cost-effective long-term strategy for the control
of cancer.
13. Simplest
Cancer Prevention Tips
