Ranjit is my good friend. His parents are not rich so he does not get
expensive gifts from them, unlike some of his peers. However, being an
obedient boy, Ranjit never complains. During school holidays, he tries to
ease his parents’ burden by doing some work around his neighbourhood.
He washes his neighbours’ cars and helps the local grocer to send
groceries to houses in the neighbourhood. He also mows the lawn and tends
to the gardens of his neighbours who go on long vacations. Ranjit gets paid
for his services. He gives his hard-earned cash to his parents but they
usually ask him to spend it on himself.
Ranjit keeps most of the money in a money box. He uses some of it to buy
a new school bag to replace his torn one. Being the bookworm he is,
sometimes he buys one or two of his favourite storybooks. Ranjit is a
responsible boy and spends money wisely.
