CURRENT POLICY EVALUATION
3. Why we need world class amenities?
• Population explosion- living space
• Economic development better in urban centres
• For better investment
• Future lies in cities-First time (2011 census) urban growth rate have out grown than rural growth rate
• For confronting with the upcoming social change
• Ensuring better quality of life
• Slum free cities
• Transportation & Communication
• Better Infrastructure
4. City in our minds
• Satellite cities
• Cultural city
• Green city
• Safe city
• Sustainable city
• Techno city
• Knowledge city
Most of the existing polices are universal in nature which looks city as a single entity.
• This may lead to marginalisation of certain sections and exclusion of its history and culture which results in uneven growth.
• In order to bridge these gaps and bring about a city which is prosperous and socially harmonious we put forth the above mentioned innovative cities.
Dream to Reality
5. A quick look
• Satellite City : Building an alternative city outside the city. It helps to reduce the congestion and also to make optimum utilisation of land and resources.
• Cultural City : Aims at protecting and harnessing the cultural and historical heritage of the city and thereby promoting tourism
• Green City : It aims to establish an eco-friendly environment and promote a healthier lifestyle
6. • Safe City: To establish a safe, secure and peaceful society in which people are not alienated by any paramaters such as religion, caste, age, sex etc.
• Sustainable City: A city in which development is accomapanied by protecting the environment
• Techno City: Aims at attracting the technological giants and providing a platform for development for them and also for the people living in the city. It also
includes all the sectors of economy
7. • Knowledge City : Opens doors for knowledge revolution by promoting advanced and skill oriented education and related agencies in all spheres.
• Self-sufficient City : Empowering the city in all means by providing favourable socio-economic-cultural and educational conditions.
8. Developmental Blocks
A city divided into different ‘developmental blocks’ based on its
• Density of population
• Availability of resources
Why ‘developmental blocks’?
• These developmental blocks give better understanding of each area specifically , so that a separate development policy can be implemented
to each block respectively.
• It can also focus on sectors which demands more attention for its development.
• It ensures an inclusive policy where no individual or group is left out-women,minorities,immigrants,senior citizens.etc.
10. Conclusion
With the burgeoning rise in the population it is expected that by 2050, 49.7 crore people will migrate to urban areas.
To accommodate such a huge population inflow in future it is high time that we upgrade our existing cities and create newer ones as it would be
impossible to do so in the future.
