I used to do websites and graphic design. Now, I specialize in social media and content marketing. And considering that social media has been around for
over a decade, there are still many business owners out there who are totally clueless on how it works and its power when it comes to online marketing.
How many of you create WordPress Websites for clients? So I assume that there are a few of you who use WordPress for your own businesses. And the rest
of you have no idea why you’re here.

Benefits of Social Media

Why are we doing all this? Here are the benefits of social media marketing:

It establishes you as an expert in your field,

Builds brand awareness and helps distribute your marketing message,

It’s networking on steroids - social amplification - when someone with a lot of friends shares your content, your social amplification increase by the number of followers
they have.

Sharing useful information about your product or service.

Helps drive traffic to the website and helps with SEO. Tweets come up in Google search as do links to your business pages on the social networks. They are free
billboards and listings and legitimate “backlinks” to your site. And anything posted public on Google+ gets indexed in the search engine.

The Center of the Wheel

The blog is the center of the marketing wheel. The orange square is the RSS icon. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Basically, it makes it easy for
people to subscribe to blogs either with a reader like Feedly or via email. Make sure these are set up correctly. Use Feedburner - a Google product - to set
it up. Go to… I hate it when I click on an RSS button and I get a bunch of gobiltygoop. So let’s go around the wheel. You write your blog post then share it
on social media; encourage commenting; share excerpts in an e-newsletter with “click here to read more” to get people back to your website; talk to your
target market - which means that you need to really know who your target market is; share it on niche groups on LinkedIn & Facebook & communities on
Google+ and lastly, share it publicly on G+ to get it indexed in the search engine.

JetPack for WordPress

JetPack is a free plug-in for WordPress that automatically shares your blog post to your social media as soon you publish a new post. That saves a ton of
time. It connects to your Facebook business page — don’t use your personal one as Facebook doesn’t allow a personal account to be used primarily to
promote a business; your Twitter business account - Remember, tweets come up in Google searches - so you want to make sure it gets shared on Twitter;
On Google+ you can connect both personal and business pages and on LinkedIn it connects to your personal account only.

That’s why you use HootSuite to automatically share it on your LinkedIn company page. Your LinkedIn personal account - what looks like your resume - is
like the white pages. Your company profile page is the Yellow pages. Back to HootSuite: You can manage 3 accounts with the free HootuSuite. I suggest
your FB biz page, G+ Biz page & LI biz page. You get 2 free RSS feed automations. Use one to automatically post your blog on your LI biz page and the
other to share automatically from a trusted source to G+. Using a tool like HootSuite or Buffer is the only way to schedule posts out into the future to G+.

Widgets make it easy for visitors to your site to do what you want them to do like a call-to-action or for them to stay on your site longer reading other posts. You have to
make it easy for people do stuff otherwise, they’re not going to do it. The longer they stay on your site, the higher the chance they’ll become a customer. You’re going
through all this work to write blog posts, share them on social media and what do want them to do once they land on the site? You need to capture their email addresses
somehow.

You need both social media follow and share buttons on a site. These are also calls-to-action. You have to make it easy for people to follow you in the networks and share
your content with their friends. These are also the valid, external links that Google loves which help with SEO. Make sure they are clearly marked, easy to find and not
confused. Don’t put the follow buttons just in the footer. Don’t make me hunt for the follow buttons. Don’t make them teeny tiny either. And for you designers, make sure
they connect to the client’s social media profiles! I’ve clicked on some that either go nowhere or go to Facebook or Twitter main pages not their business pages. If your
client doesn’t have social media set up, send them to me. Don’t put the buttons there until the social media pages are ready. You don’t want to make your client look bad.
All this is part of a business’s online reputation. An incomplete Facebook page is like having a sloppy lobby.

Widgets pull the latest social media posts and make it easy for people to follow. Put these in the sidebar of the blog or at the bottom of the home page.
Some of these are part of JetPack and some of the widgets you have to get the code from the network then set it up as a text widget.

Make sure you get the Google+ one. Having their “badge" on your site makes Google happy - we always want to make Google happy.

Yoast SEO - add your social media to the setup and in each blog post, in the SEO box, designate how the title will appear when shared on FB & Twitter -
add hashtags
Social Media Feather - automatically adds the Follow Buttons to the bottom of each blog post and/or page
Twitter official WP plugin - when posts or pages are shared on Twitter the pictures will render on Twitter in stead of just the title. It makes it more eye-
catching in the Twitter stream.

The Major Networks
Each of the social network “drives” differently Twitter is like a sports car - fast, newsy - life in 140 characters or less; LinkedIn is the Luxury sedan -
professional, classy no fooling around; Pinterest is the minivan - 85% women half of them have kids and when someone pins a picture or video from your
site it takes the link with it hence helping with SEO; G+ is the pickup truck - connected directly to the Google search engine. YT & Instagram are like a
convertible, they are media channels to get exposure. People who drive convertibles want to be seen. And Facebook is the crossover - about 60% Business
to consumer (B2C) and 40% business to business B2B. Each network has its own culture that you have to be aware of before you dive in so you don’t look
foolish.

Which Network?

So, which network should you use? You should have a presence in the major ones - they’re free billboards & listings!

But focus on the ones where your target market frequents the most, the ones driving traffic to your website & where you’re building valuable relationships. If you’re B2B,
focus mainly on LinkedIn first, however, don’t ignore the others. If you’re more B2C, focus on Facebook and Pinterest. Use Twitter and Google+ for exposure.

makes sense for your business.

I used to do websites and graphic design. Now, I specialize in social media and content marketing. And considering that social media has been around for over a decade, there are still many business owners out there who are totally clueless on how it works and its power when it comes to online marketing. How many of you create WordPress Websites for clients? So I assume that there are a few of you who use WordPress for your own businesses. And the rest of you have no idea why you’re here.

Here are the benefits of social media marketing: It establishes you as an expert in your field, Builds brand awareness and helps distribute your marketing message, It’s networking on steroids - social amplification - when someone with a lot of friends shares your content, your social amplification increase by the number of followers they have. Sharing useful information about your product or service. Helps drive traffic to the website and helps with SEO. Tweets come up in Google search as do links to your business pages on the social networks. They are free billboards and listings and legitimate “backlinks” to your site. And anything posted public on Google+ gets indexed in the search engine.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Basically, it makes it easy for people to subscribe to blogs either with a reader like Feedly or via email. Make sure these are set up correctly. Use Feedburner - a Google product - to set it up. Go to… I hate it when I click on an RSS button and I get a bunch of gobiltygoop. So let’s go around the wheel. You write your blog post then share it on social media; encourage commenting; share excerpts in an e-newsletter with “click here to read more” to get people back to your website; talk to your target market - which means that you need to really know who your target market is; share it on niche groups on LinkedIn & Facebook & communities on Google+ and lastly, share it publicly on G+ to get it indexed in the search engine.

That saves a ton of time. It connects to your Facebook business page — don’t use your personal one as Facebook doesn’t allow a personal account to be used primarily to promote a business; your Twitter business account - Remember, tweets come up in Google searches - so you want to make sure it gets shared on Twitter; On Google+ you can connect both personal and business pages and on LinkedIn it connects to your personal account only.

Your LinkedIn personal account - what looks like your resume - is like the white pages. Your company profile page is the Yellow pages. Back to HootSuite: You can manage 3 accounts with the free HootuSuite. I suggest your FB biz page, G+ Biz page & LI biz page. You get 2 free RSS feed automations. Use one to automatically post your blog on your LI biz page and the other to share automatically from a trusted source to G+. Using a tool like HootSuite or Buffer is the only way to schedule posts out into the future to G+.

You have to make it easy for people do stuff otherwise, they’re not going to do it. The longer they stay on your site, the higher the chance they’ll become a customer. You’re going through all this work to write blog posts, share them on social media and what do want them to do once they land on the site? You need to capture their email addresses somehow.

These are also calls-to-action. You have to make it easy for people to follow you in the networks and share your content with their friends. These are also the valid, external links that Google loves which help with SEO. Make sure they are clearly marked, easy to find and not confused. Don’t put the follow buttons just in the footer. Don’t make me hunt for the follow buttons. Don’t make them teeny tiny either. And for you designers, make sure they connect to the client’s social media profiles! I’ve clicked on some that either go nowhere or go to Facebook or Twitter main pages not their business pages. If your client doesn’t have social media set up, send them to me. Don’t put the buttons there until the social media pages are ready. You don’t want to make your client look bad. All this is part of a business’s online reputation. An incomplete Facebook page is like having a sloppy lobby.

Put these in the sidebar of the blog or at the bottom of the home page. Some of these are part of JetPack and some of the widgets you have to get the code from the network then set it up as a text widget.

  • 10. © 2016 Giselle Aguiar, Social Savvy Solution AZSocialMediaWiz.com | @AZSocialNetWiz Favorite Plugins ✦ JetPack ✦ Yoast SEO ✦ Social Media Feather ✦ Twitter Official WP plugin 10 JetPack - publicize, share buttons, simple site statistics & widgets Yoast SEO - add your social media to the setup and in each blog post, in the SEO box, designate how the title will appear when shared on FB & Twitter - add hashtags Social Media Feather - automatically adds the Follow Buttons to the bottom of each blog post and/or page Twitter official WP plugin - when posts or pages are shared on Twitter the pictures will render on Twitter in stead of just the title. It makes it more eye- catching in the Twitter stream.
  • 11. © 2016 Giselle Aguiar, Social Savvy Solution AZSocialMediaWiz.com | @AZSocialNetWiz The Major Networks 11 The Major Networks Each of the social network “drives” differently Twitter is like a sports car - fast, newsy - life in 140 characters or less; LinkedIn is the Luxury sedan - professional, classy no fooling around; Pinterest is the minivan - 85% women half of them have kids and when someone pins a picture or video from your site it takes the link with it hence helping with SEO; G+ is the pickup truck - connected directly to the Google search engine. YT & Instagram are like a convertible, they are media channels to get exposure. People who drive convertibles want to be seen. And Facebook is the crossover - about 60% Business to consumer (B2C) and 40% business to business B2B. Each network has its own culture that you have to be aware of before you dive in so you don’t look foolish.

You should have a presence in the major ones - they’re free billboards & listings! But focus on the ones where your target market frequents the most, the ones driving traffic to your website & where you’re building valuable relationships. If you’re B2B, focus mainly on LinkedIn first, however, don’t ignore the others. If you’re more B2C, focus on Facebook and Pinterest. Use Twitter and Google+ for exposure.
