While traditional retail stores are familiar, when a store goes online, merchants quickly discover the retail environment is not the same. There are major differences between offline and online, and one must take these differences into account when constructing a new store or refitting an existing one.
Five differences between offline and online stores are discussed:
- Location
- Construction
- Size
- Presentation
- Personnel
In the end, retailers can use these differences to their advantage, always remembering that customer needs come first.

Editor's Notes
Our little business that we have created is call Cellphones2u; our company sells phones, buys phones and trades phones. We have a wide range of top brands that we sell. Therefore, we think our way forward is to build a website, therefore within the power point we are going to be talking about the information we need to consider before starting up a website.
So that the website is user friendly.
To make sure the business has the correct funds to set up a website and host it online
To give you a basic idea of what the website will look like, information on navigation and how the website works etc.
For which they can enjoy from any Web browser, that they are able to access in order to satisfy the user’s needs. In addition, which will be supporting HTML 3.2 (or later) and cookies, which cannot reached from home but from any device of which supported or can access the internet.
Because this can also make people less interested even though it is necessary to add that feature. Unique user identifiers will differentiate users such as their own personal information added to the login for example (surname). Other information such as home address and postcode.
That is a basic authentication mechanism built into the application to prevent unauthorized persons from making transactions on a user's behalf. You will be aware when somebody is your accessing your account on your behalf, they will be ask security question or certain digest of your password (1st letter, 6th letter, 10th letter). Secure socket layers (SSL) or other encryption mechanisms are typically used to thwart the access of sensitive information (such as credit card numbers) sent to the server by Web browsers as certain encryption will be coded into the card through the chip.
Some web sites will also allow you to use the brick and click service to save you having to shopping around and then wait in a busy line to pay.
For example, visitors might search for CDs by artist, album title, genre or search for books by author, title or International Standard Book Number (ISBN) number. This is also on the search bar, so you can find these items faster without having to spend time on things you are not interested. It is a narrowed down search with specific key word within the search that takes you to what you are really searching for, which is encrypt by the people that may have used the site looking for the same object. The website will have a memory, which will save pervious searches automatically.
We have created a storyboard in order to give you basic idea of what the website will look like and show you how it would work.
Storyboard 1
The first storyboard picture of the website we are designing for Cellphones2u is our “Home Page”. This front page allows you to access our online assistant. Within our Home Page, it shows you the all the navigation buttons, of how to get around the website. There are also features which allow you to search, for example if you typed; “IPhone 6 plus” this will take you to those exact phones, that we are selling on the website. It also shows you what we got to offer to catch your attention as you enter the website. This is because a website has a few seconds in which the user will decide if they want to go through the website or not, so this is why we have chosen the best deals and phones to be on our front page to catch the user’s attention.
Storyboard 2
In the second storyboard picture, this contains many internal links, which will take you to different parts of the website. On this page are many links to all the different makes and models of phones we sell. Down the left hand side is also a button panel, which will take you to a certain make of phone so you can see a list of them, without the other makes around it. There is also payment checkout on the right, where you will do the payment after finishing the shopping.
Storyboard 3/4
This is a personal details form which the users will need to fill before trading or purchasing. Each field will contain different details which the customer will require to enter.
Storyboard 5
This page shows the contact details form, If the customers want to contact us, they will just need to fill in the blanks and submit.
