Considering the EU Green Deal, the US Green New Deal and China’s climate neutrality commitment, this book is a very timely and welcome addition to the transition movement. It is one-of-a-kind:
* It’s both a textbook for students and a briefing for a broader audience of professionals and interested lay persons active in the transition movement
* It provides a focus on a selection of clean, renewable technologies that have been proven to work and can be rapidly deployed
* It includes a concrete plan howto get to 100%, clean, renewable energy and storage for everything.
* It develops energy plans for states and countries while keeping the grid stable.
* It describes practical solutions and the policies needed for those solutions.
'Mark Jacobson’s new book, 100% Clean, Renewable Energy and Storage for Everything, provides the most authoritative look yet at the future of energy beyond fossil fuels. The text is clearly written, authoritative, and thoroughly referenced. This will make a great text book for courses on energy and climate change, but is also a must read for all of us interested in the transition to a renewable future.' - Robert W. Energy Transition: Multi-$trillion Ponzi scheme or the biggest tech market ever?Simon Thompson
Background: The conundrum of the oil price
About $100 billion a year is spent by the 5 biggest global oil companies “finding” more oil. Today $300 billion a year is spent on installing renewables like solar and windpower – almost three times what is spent by those oil companies.
But there is no money spent on “finding” new sun, as we already know where the sun is at its brightest. There is also no money spent finding out where it is windiest because we already know.
Oil company valuation
Value = oil price today X assets in the ground minus cost of getting it out
New formula
Value = oil price today (and in the future) X assets in ground minus cost of getting it out of the ground
If oil falls to $30
Value = 20% of oil worth getting out of the ground –value falls by 80%. With debt = worthless
Stop digging for new oil.
If oil falls to $20
Almost zero oil is worth getting out of the ground
So Oil industry = zero less debt - negative
Oil goes to $20 in 2043...
Executive summary for Last Chance Saloon for CSP (Concentrated Solar Power)Simon Thompson
This is the executive summary for "Last Chance Saloon for Gen 3 CSP" which is a report and forecast from Rethink Energy.
It’s about the global Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) business which, although small compared to photovoltaic or wind power, will be a $10 billion global industry by 2030. How so?
Previous CSP marquee projects such as the “tower power” plants of the Mojave Desert have proved to be expensive and R&D-hungry. Although impressive, they’ve tarnished the sector and in recent years investment has gone elsewhere.
It means that CSP has effectively lain moribund for a decade.
But in recent years a new wave of technology-driven CSP companies have brought a swathe of minor innovations, improvements on efficiency and cheaper equipment to the market.
CSP can now provide temperatures of 1,000 degrees Celsius, enabling the technology to play a role in the decarbonization of the cement, steelmaking, and mining industries. And in China there are plans to use CSP on the power grid as “peak-shaving” energy storage.
Does this mean that this 3rd generation of CSP activity will lead to profitable returns? What are the new technologies and who are the players? And what will be the impact of the global demand for hydrogen on CSP?
The answer to these questions and more can be found in Last Chance Saloon for Gen 3 CSP in this 30-page report, illustrated with graphs and accompanied by an Excel spreadsheet with projections.

States awaiting stimulus funds will be pleased to know that when it comes to funding energy efficiency programs, their dollars will go far. Drastically reduced energy consumption and immediate job growth are just some of the benefits that effective policies and programs can bring, particularly to the Appalachian region, which has the highest energy consumption in the country. Kateri Callahan presented these findings to the annual Charlotte Regional Partnership Investors Board in Charlotte, N.C., where already progressive energy efficiency policies and programs are taking root. The first quarter of 2009 has ushered in a new era for the alternate energy market in the US. This has resulted in a visible increase in interest on alternate energy technologies. Most would think the attention to alternate energy has come just in time, especially with the rise in fossil fuel prices, stringent environmental regulations, and significant changes in preferences among consumers.

September 2011 - Michigan Energy Forum - Stanley "Skip" PrussAnnArborSPARK
Regulatory Drivers For CleanTech and Green Jobs: When people think of CleanTech, they usually think of wind turbines and solar panels, but there may be a burgeoning opportunity in energy efficiency. Many states, including Michigan, have adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards that requires utilities to generate a portion of their electricity from renewable sources. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently promulgated a regulation (the GHG BACT) that will require utilities to reduce their carbon emissions, primarily through energy efficiency. However, several members of Congress are trying to cut back on GHG regulations arguing that these regulations are job killers. Come to the Michigan Energy Forum on September 8th to learn about the latest regulatory developments, what they have meant from green jobs in Michigan, and what the future might hold.

Sierra Club Petition to Federal Trade Commission re Atlantic Coast Pipeline P...Marcellus Drilling News
A petition filed with the FTC by the Virginia chapter of the odious Sierra Club. The petition asks the FTC to review the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline project (from Dominion), with wild claims that it violates antitrust laws. It's frivolous and meaningless and meant to slow and delay the project. Totally without merit.
With overall U.S energy consumption expected to increase 23 percent by 20301 and with growing
requirements for renewable energy, states are seeking to meet new demand with energy sources that are abundant, clean and cost-effective. Wind power
has become a popular clean energy choice due to its price and the distribution of wind resources across the nation. However, with more states requiring an increase in renewable energy production and serious consideration of a national renewable electricity standard growing in Congress, questions have arisen about how much wind power can be integrated into the U.S. energy supply.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
