Direct And Indirect Drivers of BiodiversitySally Longford
A power point to practice working out whether the drivers that change biodiversity are direct or indirect, as described in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment
Human well-being is highly dependent on ecosystems and the benefits they provide such as food and drinkable water. Over the past 50 years, however, humans have had a tremendous impact on their environment.
To better understand the consequences of current changes to ecosystems and to evaluate scenarios for the future, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has launched a comprehensive scientific study, the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
What actions could be taken to limit harmful consequences of ecosystem degradation?
The impact of agriculture on the environment is often discussed merely in terms of pollution due to
leaching of agrochemicals or to erosion of contaminated soil particles. As a matter of fact, however, more
important environmental problems are due to the imbalance or the lack of closure of nutrient cycles and to the
wrong choices made to this purpose. The natural role of agriculture is the re-utilization of wastes and effluents, no
more congenial today for the farmers themselves. It is necessary therefore to encourage farmers to play their
environmental role. The definition of sustainable agriculture does not prescind from this role, and it is possible to
stress the concept that agriculture, by playing this role, becomes the ground for a sustainable society.

Millions of years ago the earth's soils were full of nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium. Nitrogen built up from various sources – from the air turned into nitrates by lightning strikes, in the soil from nitrogen fixing bacteria and native nitrogen bound in soils organic structure. Potassium and phosphorus are major components of many earth rocks and have therefore existed in the soil profile from the weathering of these rocks for millions of years. These elements occur in many forms such as potassium silicate and potassium phosphate. While soils today have tens of thousands of kilograms of these elements, most of it (95% or more) is unavailable to the plant because it is in insoluble forms. The same can be said for calcium and magnesium, two secondary plant elements; most soils have large reserves of these elements, however most is unavailable to plants. This is the reason why the use of commercial fertilizers has become widespread in today's agricultural marketplace. So, is it possible, in today's agricultural marketplace with demand for higher yields and quality to move away from pesticides and chloride-based fertilizers so to stop harming the microbial populations and get the full benefit of their ability to solubilize unavailable nutrients in the soil? Yes, it is possible. In addition, there are ways to enhance these soil workers, the microbes, to work harder and mineralize more nutrients so that conventional fertilizers can be reduced or possibly even eliminated. The product that can achieve this is – Symbex®
Medicinal plants have been identified and used throughout human history. Plants make many chemical compounds that are for biological functions, including defence against insects, fungi and herbivorous mammals. At least 12,000 such compounds have been isolated so far; a number estimated to be less than 10% of the total.Chemical compounds in plants mediate their effect on the human body through processes identical to those already well understood for the chemical compounds in conventional drugs; thus herbal medicines do not differ greatly from conventional drugs in terms of how they work. it is important to know various factors that affects medicinal plant cultivation.
We could say that the destructo-culture, based on industrialized agriculture, carries a basic dysfunction, which is to see the soil as an inanimate thing, a resource to be exploited, & even something that can be seen as 'property' of human beings.
This paradigm has to change because it is at the base of great injustices & of the destruction of the most important base for life on Earth.
In this class we meet the soil as a living being, an organism of enormous complexity & importance, studying how it works in detail, from the microscopic to the global level.
To know soil intimately is fundamental for any sustainable design & to have a direct & vital relationship with this great organism helps us re-connect, physically as well as emotionally, with the Planet.
What are the Organic Fertilizers Used in AgricultureShivaniPadole
Natural fertilizers derived from animals and plants are known as organic fertilizers. Carbonic compounds, which are necessary for plant growth, are added to the soil as a result. Organic fertilizers alter the physical and chemical properties of the soil, encourage microorganism reproduction, and raise the amount of organic matter in the soil. It is viewed as one of the primary supplements for green food. These pesticides can be induced genetically in plants through genetic engineering or can be found naturally in microorganisms. Soil contamination and pollution from a variety of chemicals, like fluoroacetamide, can be avoided by using Biopesticides. Additionally, they are less likely to irritate animal and human skin.
Why Soil Conditioner Is Important For Healthy GardeningShivaniPadole
Soil conditioners, also called soil amendments, assist improve soil structure by increasing aeration, water holding capacity, and nutrients. They assist chop up compacted clay soils that lack enough space for air and water, which square measure vital for microorganisms to thrive and for plant roots to grow. They additionally cycle nutrients otherwise sure up within the soil. Soil conditioners embody a spread of merchandise made of many alternative materials, each organic and inorganic. Organic (carbon-based) soil conditioners like Bloom can be made of animal manure, fertilizer from yard waste or food waste, cover crop remnant, biosolids, sawdust, ground pine bark, peat moss, or other materials. Common ingredients in inorganic soil conditioners on the other hand square measure usually mineral-based mostly, like enlarged clay or sedimentary rock and even sand.
Cost effective ways to maintain soil fertility and nutrient cycling in the farmDorothy_Sanderson
The impact of conventional fruit and crop farming on the soil has been documented extensively over the years. People are now well aware that intensive agricultural activities, such as irrigation, chemical and biocide spraying and the use of heavy machinery, deplete the nutrients in the soil and prevent them from coming back.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

We are happy to introduce ourselves as a totally
green company involved in marketing of pure,
& Eco Friendly soil nourishers, plant health
promoters & stimulants, feed supplements for
diary, poultry & fisheries segments, while
creating awareness about the use & benefits
of natural products in our agricultural &
animal husbandry practices
The extensive and indiscriminate use of chemical
fertilizers, pesticides and synthetic pyrethroids
over a long period of time has wreaked havoc
causing damage to our environment. The soils
have lost their fertility; the water tables have
shrunk; the plants have lost their immunity;
the animals have become more susceptible to
diseases & the human race has been inflicted
with various ailments hitherto unknown to
mankind.
All these disastrous signals cry for a safe and
viable solution, which would replenish the
soil, its fertility, improve water retention of
the soil and gradually rectify the water and
soil quality, build up the plants immunity
system thus helping the food grown on the
soil to have all the essential nutrients and
vitamins therein.

PASSIONATELY PROMOTING HEALTH CONCIOUS PRODUCTS AND PRACTICES FOR DISEASE
FREE WELL BEING OF PLANT, ANIMAL AND HUMAN RACE.
4. In spite of knowing that 80% disease in plants are either soil borne or seed borne we take
negligible interest in soil or seed treatment and yet want the plants to grow healthy, disease
free and nutritionally strong –
ON A SOIL – WITH NO HUMUS CONTENT AND FERTILITY
ON A SOIL – AS HARD AS ROCK IMPEDING ROOT GROWTH
ON A SOIL – WITH NO AERATION AND DRAINAGE
ON A SOIL – THAT SEVERELY LACKS MICRO ORGANISMS
ON A SOIL – THAT LACK NUTRIENTS TO GIVE IMMUNITY
ON A SOIL – WITH NO CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY
ON A SOIL – WITH NO CHELATION ABILITY
IS THIS RIGHT ? IS THIS POSSIBLE ?
WHAT ARE WE DOING TO SET RIGHT THIS GROSS ANOMALY ?
5. What is Soil?
Soil may be defined as a natural body on the surface of
the earth composed
of mineral and organic materials and living forms in
which plants grow.
The fundamentals of soil may be schematically
represented as follows
7. SAND : Soil that contains 85% or more of sand, % silt + 1.5 times
% clay shall not exceed 15%
LOAM : Soil contains 7 -27% sand, 28-50% silt and 52% sand
CLAY : Soil contains 40 or more % clay, 45% sand and 40% silt
9. ROLE OF MICRO ORGANISMS IN
SOIL
The conversion of organic matter into humus is done by the millions of
microorganisms in the soil who play an extremely important role in soil
fertility and plant health. Unfortunately majority of the soils in our
country today lack microorganism population which have been killed
by the rampant use of poisonous chemicals over the years with least
regard to health hazards that crop subsequently
The humates are a part of soil humus and play an important role in the
living organism. Modern farming practices have stripped the soil of its
humus and no replacements have been used. The humic substances
have not been appreciated and as a result not addressed in fertilizing
practices. Today, our soils are low on these humic substances and as a
result animals and man are not receiving adequate amounts in our
normal diet. Research has indicated that when soil humus percentages
fall below 2%, the soil cannot provide sufficient quantities of humic
materials into the crops grown for the amounts needed by the living
organism
10. CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY
CEC represents the capacity of colloidal complex to
exchange all its cations with the cations of the electrolyte
solution ( surrounding liquid)
Extremely important chemical reaction for availability of
plant nutrients
Capacity of Soil to exchange Cations is the single best
indicator of Soil Fertility
Organic matter has very great potential for cation
exchanges in soil
Addition of organic matter increases the CEC of the soil
CEC is one of the most important mechanisms by which
plants obtain nutrients and it has a strong influence on soil
structure & productivity
11. WHAT IS ORGANIC MATTER?
IT MAY BE DEFINED AS UNDECOMPOSED OR PARTIALLY
DECOMPOSED REMAINS OF PLANT AND ANIMAL
MATTER
The encyclopedia Britannica defines it as
SUBSTANCES WHOSE MOLECULES CONTAIN ONE OR MORE
(OFTEN MANY MORE) CARBON ATOMS (EXCLUDING
CARBONATES, CYANIDES, AND A FEW OTHERS
12. IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIC
MATTER
Binds Soil Particles into Structural units called Aggregates
Increases Water Holding Capacity to a Great Extent
Surface Runoff & Erosion Reduced due to Good Infiltration
Increases Porosity and Aeration prompting better root growth
Lowers Soil Temp. in Summer & keeps Soil Warm in Winter
Serves as a Source of Energy for growth of Microorganisms
Ensures Easy & Enhanced uptake of all Soil Nutrients
Helps Reduce Alkalinity in the Soil
Humus – highly decomposed organic matter –increases cation exchange capacity of the Soil
considerably
Reduces Leaching Loss of Nutrients by holding them in exchangeable and available forms
Helps dissolve minerals like Potassium and makes them more available
13. CONVERSION OF ORGANIC
MATTER TO HUMUS
•The ultimate aim of introduction of any organic matter in the soil
is the conversion and formation of HUMUS
•HUMUS is a very complex mixture of organic compounds
performing functions like increasing soil fertility, enhancing
nutrient uptake, imparting resistance capacity and general health
•The process of conversion of Organic Matter to Humus, known as
Decomposition takes about 8 to 12 months and is aided by the
microbial activity of microorganisms in soil
•Humus may be defined as a complex mixture of dark brown
amorphous and colloidal substance important for plant health
•Humus is formed only after complete decomposition of Organic
Matter – & hence All Humus are essentially Organic Matter but all
Organic Matter are not Humus
14. HUMIC ACIDS. WHAT ARE
THEY?
Humic Acids are formed out of Humus, a fully Decomposed Organic material that come
entirely from vegetation buried down in the carboniferous period. Millions of years ago
earth’s mineral rich soils produced a profusion of lush green forests, succulent fruits &
vegetables. As this lush growth of vegetation died, it accumulated and was later buried
by rock & mudflows and deposits of sand and silt. The weight of these deposits
compacted and compressed out all of the moisture. Over the ages the vegetation
underwent compaction and heating. It slowly carbonized and became coal. The
compaction squeezed out the organic acids and esters present in the vegetation and
formed a pool on top of the lignite coal bed.
This pool dried and aged and eventually formed Leonardite shale, named so after its
discoverer Dr Leonard. What remains today is deposit of dried pre historic plant
derivatives. During this process brought about by millions of micro organisms, simple
products of decomposition like amino acids, carbohydrates and phenols turn into very
complex, high molecular weight, long chain organic compounds called “Humic Acids”
Because of its vegetative origin, this material is very rich and beneficial for plant growth
& totally Environment Friendly.
16. HUMIC ACIDS. SOURCE AND
CHEMISTRY
Humic acids are complex molecules that
exist naturally in soils, peats, oceans & fresh
waters. The best source of Humic Acids are
the soft sedimentation layers of brown coal
called LEONARDITE an organic material
found beneath the earth surface in the cold
climes of the US, Russia etc. Often referred
to as the oxidised Lignite, they are the
richest as well as the most economical
source of Humic Acids
17. ACTION OF HUMIC ACID ON
PLANT GROWTH
PHYSICAL CHEMICAL BIOLOGICAL

capacity.
Increases soil aeration.
Improves soil workability.
Helps resist drought.
Improves seed bed.
Reduces soil erosion.
Makes soil more friable
and crumby.

21. FULVIC ACIDS. WHAT ARE
THEY?
A humic substance that is water soluble under all pH conditions. Fulvic acid have the lowest
molecular size and weight of all humic substances.Oxygen content is very high at 48%, with
nitrogen content below 4%. This is the portion of the soil responsible for chelating minerals
and transferring them to the living organism. Fulvic acid is unique in its chelation ability as it
captures life essential minerals and places an electrical charge on them for ready uptake by
the organism. Toxic metals are also chelated, but are neutrally charged and have difficulty
in entering a living organism. Fulvic acids also act to detoxify the body of those heavy
metals that may enter it.
Fulvic acid is nature's perfect medicine. It is by far the world's most complex and diverse
substance. Having a dramatic impact on health, fulvic acid is the element that makes
nutrients absorbable. It maintains cellular integrity and aids in the cellular detoxification
process. Fulvic acid is so powerful that a single molecule can transport other molecules
many times its own weight. Fulvic acid delivers more than 60 minerals and trace elements
to cells. Scientists have referred to it as the elixir of life and theorize that without it, live
would not exist.
